A little tip at the range. If you put an alignment stick about 6 inches behind the ball it forces you to miss the stick and strike the ball first and make sure the low point is after the ball. You may whack the stick a few times at the beginning though 😂

You can do the sand drill on the driving range matt, put a golf club shaft down then sprinkle baby powder along the length of the shaft, you've then got a strike reference station, it works brilliantly.

I love this advice of trusting your body to figure out the skill. It’s almost like learning to balance on a bike. We make the swing so complicated where we forget, at the end of the day, it’s just an athletic movement that our bodies can learn. But, it’s a hard thing to do in golf without fancy equipment to analyze things. But this is a great drill!

Another great lesson. I practice low point every day by whacking weeds in the yard with a 7i. Smiled and laughed when spirit of Ben Doyle appeared @ 3:45 😂 Ben was a renowned teaching pro based in Carmel, CA who was one of the first pro teachers to adopt Homer Kelley’s Golf Machine theories. I’ve watched many of his videos and one of the things he was known for was teaching using the sand in a bunker. The guy who built my house, now a friend, was a previously a tour golfer and one of his students when he was a teenager and we’ve discussed things Ben taught him. 😊

This makes me happy, I did this with a baseball bat when I was 5, back when I thought golf was something only grandma and grandpa did. Each dandelion is a new target to focus on and practice low point, I've got 1000 track mans every year 😂

    • @TeddyCavachon
      @TeddyCavachon 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@donaldrichardson9545 LOL! The grandpa thing is what I concluded when I started playing golf at age 31 in 1983 saying to self “This game was designed for the idle rich. I need to put in on the back burner for about 25 years and focus on that part.” I was retired from the Foreign Service at age 55 and took a job for min wage at a nine hole par 35 course in Bristow, VA called Broad Run Golf designed in 1979 as a golf academy but operated as a public course where the perk of working two six-hour shifts per week as starter/marshal was unlimited range balls and golf rounds. I started playing daily, weather permitting, about 250 days of the year usually playing 18-27 holes per year. I knew the times of day when the course wasn’t crowded and played 85% my round by myself in practice mode. If a shot didn’t go as planned I’d just drop a ball and hit it again until I figured out what I was doing wrong. At least one a week I played tee to green with just one club, everything from 3i to 56° wedge just for grins and practice things I read about, like Seve hitting out of bunkers with a 3i as a kid or Phil’s flop shots until I figured out how to do them. I bought the Golf Digest Book “How to Hit 101 Different shots” and tried every one of them. Hogan was right… the secret(s) are in the dirt. 😂

Clearest explanation ever on striking ball first vs direction. When I practice at home with an old piece of rug, marked with felt tip pen, a line 2 in. after a round dot representing the ball, bingo, I improve massively. Just 10-20 swings s day is enough. Easy. For me, I also have to adjust distance to the ball constantly for consistent contact to just brush the ground ie. rug. I also do this on course with 2-3 practice swings. Very helpful on depth control vs lie. Thanks Danny, great stuff. Now will add the arc to the rug!

Ok..."TrapMan" hailed it! What a simple yet powerful drill. Thanks to one of your low point lessons a while back, I've been using one of those cheap but accurate strike indicator mats with decent results. However, this drill provides even more information when it comes to the depth of strike. Love it. Love your lessons that apply to any skill level. Some instructors try too hard to translate and teach pro level skills that most golfers don't have the time, strength, or skill to mimic and therefore often just languish. However, things like consistency of setup and even low point control, are things anyone can learn and practice. Well done and thanks!

Great lesson. One thing I found that really helped me, especially on the course, is looking at the target side of the golf ball and trying to hit that. Helps me swing through the ball. Instead of looking at the back of the ball and trying to hammer that nail in it, which normally caused me to "hit" the ball.
Getting back into golf after a decade these lessons help a lot, thank you for the content, this channel helps a lot :)

Love the bunker idea and the tip to feel I was coming in hitting the ground behind the ball first and then moving the contact forward. Practised with my short irons on a small Par 3 course. Worked a treat, increasing my distance by 10-15 yards (9 iron back up to 135 yds). Off to my own course tomorrow with some real confidence back in my mid irons)

I tried this drill before my round. 30 swings in the sand. First 10 were terrible! Last 10, I was improving, but I thought still not good. Went out and shot my best round of the year! 3 shots off my personal best. Could be coincidence, but probably not. I will continue this drill daily. Thank you!

Rick Shiels fixed my grip. Danny you're helping to fix my swing. I played league last night and am just getting back into it after shoulder surgery in January. I've lost some distance but using your tips on swing and ball striking, I'm improving almost every time, I've all but eliminated my slicing, and my accuracy has improved, and I'm enjoying myself much much more. Some of the guys in my league commented last night they've noticed a marked improvement in my game. Thank you! Looking forward to continuing my progress. Now I just need to convince the wife I need to replace my 15-year old irons!

Absolutely brilliant, i will take this 2 the bunker today! Cant spend enough time in the sand haha😆Its funny that u releasing videos on the exact area that im working on my swing right now. I have been obsessed lately on controlling my lowpoint! i was all over the place 2 month ago, now i hit only 1 or 2 bad ironshots on 9 holes, witch was unheard of earlier. I have adapted a mix of swing "theories", but i would describe it as this: To controll my weight and lowpoint, i stand fixed on my leadleg the whole swing (like stack and tilt), and keeping my right elbow tucked in, than in the downswing i go full Pete Cowen on the ball😁 It works for me and has transformed my game! Next mission is the driver for me! And ofc PUTTING..i hitting most greens in regulation now, but then 3 put my way out of it🙄😅 Thanks for all the help recently Danny boy, and keep em coming🙌

    Great drill
… taking swings, in a bunker, without a ball 👍🏻
But one thing I notice is, with no ball, your swing is so easy and controlled.
I think most of us typically swing TOO HARD when hitting a ball. That is, more MOVEMENT (the head, the shoulders, the torso, etc)
So one takeaway from this drill is to swing within yourself, HEAD STILL, making a consistent low point possible.
    … Just DON’T swing too hard ☝🏻
Good stuff, as always, Danny 👊🏻

@@DanielMaude You are welcome. I did send the video to my friend, which struggles which socket. After 3 month still cannot repair the swing he is desperate and close to give up golf. Same to me, played ONE Time in March for 3 hours, and had 4 month Kneeproblems. Now there are gone, and I will see. I tried 1 hour on the driving range, but 100 to 130 meter with a 7 iron, with a low speed (90 mph?) .. The trainer says you have a beautiful swing, I know this, BUT in golf I get not points for the stance, (just for this Iḿ the Nr. 1 and not Scheffler 😂🤣) like in the gymnastics....Maybe give up too. We both are 67 years old, but still in good shape, but better we take a walk in the woods! Take care Daniel! All the best! sharky (Sorry my bad english writing, I'm from germany!

@@sharky9493 if your friend is hitting out of the socket there is only two things that could be happening. Either he’s addressing the ball too much off the hosel or the club os moving outwards and away from the ball.
Once he’s checked set up get him to make swings where he feels the club starts away from him in the backswing but moves closer to his body in the downswing

caused by the rake marks and the parallel grooves was just
a bit higher than where your leading edge entered your low
point so your arc was exceptionally accurate really ,😇👍

Another good lesson ! When my hip/back injury heals i will be right in the bunker. It is a fairway bumker which is on the far right of the driving range. It is funny or frustrating how much golf you forget. My friend is a former Japanese and Asian tour player. About 10 years ago i was struggling with the low point of my swing. He put me in the bunker with two lines just like you have shown. My ball striking improved to the point i was hitting my irons better than i ever had. I went on to be a 6 handicap. A lifetike of contact sports, ice hockey, American football and rugby for 23 years. Not to mention track and field baseball and cricket. This has caught up with me and i have a few injuries which has kept me off the course. There seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. I have 3 procedures in the next 4 months. My point at last. I has forgotten all about this drill and it is the drill that worked for me better than any other. Thanks Danny perfect timing. For anybody who read this stupidly long comment this drill really works. We all know when you hit it fat in a fairway bunker the ball goes nowhere. This gives us instant feedback 😊
