Im in peri and hair is thinning and hairline reciding. I asked my gyno about hormone replacement but my gyno says because im only 43 that low dose birth control is what she would give to level hormones out. She said hormone replacement would not be given until im actually menopausal after 12 months no period. Was wondering are you fully in menopause? Or peri? I really think it's the loss of estrogen and I bought rogaine but don't really want to start for fear of side effects and it's a lifetime thing. Thanks in advance
Hi! I never had side effects with Rogaine. It overall worked well for me. So, if that’s the only option, I think it’s worth a try. But, most of the worst symptoms and bone density loss starts in perimenopause. The current recommendations approve Estrogen in perimenopause (see this link on Cleveland Clinics website: my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21608-perimenopause). If I were you, I’d look at switching doctors or look into telehealth options like MIDI. They specialize in menopause. So they’ve seen how low dose birth control can help versus an Estrogen gel, etc. Also, join an FB menopause group or two. It can help you get answers from a bunch of different sources. Half will be for Estrogen, half against. But, at least you’ll get a range of approaches to think about. 😊
The latest research shows that Minoxidil can provide a low boost to estrogen while lowering DHT. That combo can allow for hair growth to happen in the same way that my estrogen patch does. Minoxidil cannot be used as an estrogen replacement at all. It's not nearly a high enough increase of estrogen to be of any benefit (for women) or detriment (for men) alone. It's the combo of the low estrogen boost and lowered DHT that allows for returned hair growth in people like me, suffering from hair loss due to estrogen loss. 👍
If you have a family history of breast cancer, I think it's recommended to try other options. For me, I'm more worried about bone density, heart health, weight, hair loss, and diabetes. HRT helps to reduce the risks on those things. The bone density alone is the scariest for me. My grandparents and Dad have shrank a lot. And, 1 died from a bad fall (due to brittle bone). I have to really focus on that. So, talk to a menopause doctor about your history and best options. Good luck!
The original research that found an increase in cancer was done by giving estrogen to women in their 60’s. It was actually their age and how long their bodies were without estrogen that caused the slight increase. In women in their 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s, no increase in cancer has been found. But, definitely Google, do your own research, and talk to a Doctor. Check out Menopause Taylor’s YT channel for more info. She’s a Dr and a menopause expert. 😊

Minoxidil doesn't affect hormones or mimic estrogen (a hormone) and isn't absorbed systemically in a foam form.

Hi, do you know if estrogen patches can increase your risks for certain cancers?
If you have a family history of breast cancer, I think it's recommended to try other options. For me, I'm more worried about bone density, heart health, weight, hair loss, and diabetes. How to stop hair fall after stop using minoxidil for 2 months plz help me
I’d talk to a dermatologist if you have hair loss that’s not related to Estrogen. Or, just start using minoxidil again. Good luck!
Thanks for this advise
You're welcome 😊
Does the estrogen patch increase the chance of cancer ?
