  • 👩🏾‍⚕️Hair loss is a distressing experience. If you are experiencing hair loss please don’t suffer in silence. There are many different causes of hair loss and early diagnosis and treatment is extremely important.
👩🏾‍⚕️If you are seeing or feeling changes with your hair/scalp please don’t delay in seeing a dermatologist for consultation.
📝Here are some tips to prepare for a dermatologist appointment for hair loss.
👉🏾 Prepare to review and discuss your medical history and your family medical history (chronic conditions, surgeries, child birth etc) we need this information to get a full picture of what may be contributing to your hair loss.
👉🏾 Bring a copy of your latest bloodwork and a list of medications and/or supplements you are currently taking or used in the past. We will likely still order additional bloodwork but this gives us a good starting point.
👉🏾 Keep a hair journal with both notes of your symptoms (itching/burning/tenderness/fatigue/stress/fever) but also photos to document your journey. Please be ready to share photos of your scalp over the last few years with your derm. This helps us identify potential triggers.
👉🏾Be prepared to show your entire scalp for evaluation. We can’t not see under braids/sewn-ins/ etc. odds are you waited awhile for your appointment please make the most of it by coming fully prepared for complete evaluation possible biopsy, and treatment.
👉🏾 Bring a list or photos of the products you are using on your hair. Including any chemicals (we need to know the last time your relaxed and if natural we need to know any hair treatments used in the past).
👉🏾Bring your Q’s written down or in the notes section of your phone. This is an emotional journey and you may forget something you wanted to ask.
👉🏾Most important don’t feel embarrassed we are here to help you and will work closely together as a team to get you on the best treatment plan for your particular diagnosis.

Hey after having a chemical treatment from a salon. I'm facing obsene amount of hairloss. My hair were severly damaged. I have seen dermatologists. They are prescribing minoxidil. However, I'm looking for natural remedy. I can see hair growth after 4 months. But continues shedding is also there. It has triggered chronic talogen effluvium. Have you come accross anyone who faced this. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

Not all dermatologists are created equal when it comes to hair loss. I saw one who basically said you're on your own and not much he could do. But then I found a trichologist, a scalp expert, who has been working with me and I'm having great results. My bald spots are growing back and my hair in general is growing.

After childbirth, I noticed my hairfall but I stayed calm. I acted to to control it. I opted for a health-centered strategy.
I prioritized my diet, eating nutrient-rich foods, specially those high in Folic Acid and Protein.
I worked out regularly and engaged in meditation for stress management.
I avoided styles that pull on my hair and quit using heated styling tools to prevent hair damage.
I even started using LittleExtra's Coconion shampoo and hair oil combined with a neem wood comb.
The outcome was hairfall control and the recovery of my confidence.

I wish I had this info years ago. Where I live there is ONE dermatologist that works with black women's hair. The appointment was 10 months out, but I was blessed to get in on a cancellation. A scalp biopsy was taken and I am waiting for the results and treatment plan. I lost hand fulls of hair post covid 2020, and menopause is another factor. Thank you for the video.

I am dealing with very dry itchy scalp and sting. I think it's both my scalp and hair. Hair is falling out in chunks, dry and brittle. All over my shirt and/or pillow. I'm not seeing dandruff. Just my hair everywhere. Tried cutting it all off and using other products that didn't work. Seeing your video will take me in the next direction. I am so glad I came across your video. I didn't know what else to do.

May I humbly suggest having your thyroid examined. I moved out the US to a country with healthier more affordable food and less stress. Within a year my bald spot grew 6.5in due to splits ins trimmed to 5. But just knowing my hair is so much healthier is a huge relief.

Hello Dr. Stephens! Thank you so much for the informative video. I’m interested in purchasing an at home device for the LED light therapy due to the fact that according to my light research it takes 3-6 months to see results and I’d like to do it in the convenience of my home. I wanted a device I could use to stimulate hair growth but also to get some of the benefits of blue and red light therapy. There are so many of these devices on the market so I was wondering if there are any led light therapy devices you’d recommend that are capable of delivering the hair growth stimulation, anti aging and acne control properties?

I started using rosemary oil recently along with lavender oil and I noticed a big improvement. When I was transitioning into menopause my hair stop growing. I did a low hair cut 2 years ago and decide to let it grow back but with the help of the rosemary, I notice a lot of hair growth.
