@CPT. PRICELESS They aren't lying. There just isn't a standardized method on how they test the product to put the numbers on their datasheets. You running some software off your computer that tells you a number is likely not what they do to determine a number. They are sending a set amount of data at known clock cycles and based upon what they deem is the inherent capacitance and impedance of the traces they've laid out, they will determine the highest threshold of data going in without corrupted bits. The test set up will have grounding and EMI shielding you aren't going to find on somebody's typical product. And they make calculations to skew the number higher because cable length and any additional copper in their testing introduces signal insertion losses as well as inherent thermal noise by the equipment itself used to make the measurements and inject the data. This is why you will never reach these theoretical speeds.
I feel like the difference is so miniscule that where your money into these things matters is their ability to dissipate heat. Especially in the tight quarters of the PS5. Maybe the next video you guys should do is a thermal imaging test between the same contenders.
That's actually a fantastic idea and we appreciate that feedback! We have a heat gun and our have 3 ssd videos planned so we will definitely consider doing that as the results would be intriguing.
I was torn between the firecuda and kingston fury renegade for months. In the end I went with the new 4tb fantom drives Venom 8. It moved 600gb in 6 minutes. Load Speeds are blazing fast. Couldn't be happier.
I would buy the Firecuda 530 over the others because it is a lot more significant, the time saved on in game loading times than for the game to start. I wouldn't even do tests for how long it takes for the game to start, since you only do that once vs 50 loading screens when playing the game. Just an idea for anyone deciding between these options.
Yeah that’s fair. We did both only to check results. We weren’t sure what the results were going to be on either test. We also wish we could have shown more games but it was already very involved and time consuming. I think your point about loading saved data vs start game is a good one. I guess depending on how often someone is doing it. Someone may just start a game and load their saved game and that’s it for the day. Regardless, these are all good and very close overall. I (Adam) personally bought the Firecuda for myself. Thanks for the comment and bring this point up because we agree that it’s something to think about and consider. We appreciate you watching and thanks for your support.
These results might be due to Firecuda having a bigger cache than the others. KC3000 should be even better on this, though I still ordered Firecuda for its coolest temps (with a heatsink) and claimed endurance, which is much higher than my completely failed one-year old (!) Samsung 980..
I just got the Samsung, and I'm happy with that choice especially seeing these results. I tossed up about getting the WB Black, but Samsung was for me and it's amazing
For speed, quality and reliability, you just can't go wrong with the Samsung. I've bought and used Samsung SSD's for my PC's before the PS5 and they've performed flawlessly with zero issues to this day.
Im so glad i watched this vid, was gunna purchase the WD but went with samsung instead and worried i bought wrong but this has cleared it all up for me, THANK YOU!!
this is one of the few instances where im glad my phone suggested stuff based on searches. i was about to buy the firecuda on sale for 140, but the samsung has better ratings and is on sale for 99. thanks guys.
The Problem With the Samsung 980 Pro, is it uses a new NAND type. Which has a LOT lower TBW (Terabytes Written) Rating. TBW rating is how much data can be written on the SSD before it needs to be replaced. Which is VERY important for console gaming. The Samsung's TBW rating is 1200TB, while the Firecuda's is 2550TB. Which means, theoretically, the Firecuda will last twice as long.

You cant go wrong with the samsung 980 pro and with the 5th updated firmware and put in my ps5 is reading 6500+ reads when i first formatted the console. I was about to get the sn850 but favoured the samsung after a long night of research and reading data reports. @@Oddsboy I did get a refund for the firecuda. I had to send them a letter with their return merchandize code to get the refund. They got to use my money for the 7 days it took to get the letter to them. It took me a bit to figure out what to do to get my money back. Not a simple or clear process.

99% of users don't even write 150TBs within 5 yrs. I can guarantee you would never come anywhere close to hitting the 1200 tbw limit of the 2TB 980 Pro within your lifetime.
@Freedom1775 Because it's literally a non issue for 99% of users. Most people don't write anywhere close to that much data within the lifetime of their PC.
I bought the MP600 core 1TB for my ps5 and it has been serving me well. Never bothered if it was below spec. Compared the speeds vs internal ps5 ssd and it came out roughly the same with only at time 1-2 seconds apart. Cost wise it is bang for the buck.
Which would you rather choose using all the time? The PS5 internal ssd or the Extended internal ssd? I mean for wear and tear and warranty purposes? Like should i wear and tear the PS5 internal ssd or the extended ssd? Thanks to whoever will answer.
@@icebaby271 when I inserted the ext SSD, the primary installation drive changed to ext SSD. Since then I have left it that way. About the longevity I would suggest don't worry at all. These SSDs are built to last. For example I bought the Samsung 850 Evo back in 2014 and its bundled software Samsung Magician shows that it has still 70% of the life left. Maybe it will even out live me hahaha... So don't worry about wear and tear at all. Running video rendering/editing takes a toll on SSDs lifespan but u wont be doing that on a PS. So u r fine! Just have fun with your PS don't worry abt the wear and tear. I would rather suggest cleaning dust by removing the side panels once in 2-3 months. Hope this helps.
@@rahulrastogi6412 but if you will be given the chance to only choose one. Either PS5 internal ssd or external ssd? Please give reasons bro. Bec my logic is that most of the time im able to use 1 side ssd only as i play casually. So im wondering which ssd to wear first. For example, would it be better for me to wear ps5 ssd so that if it overheats i can get sony warranty. Or should i wear the external ssd as it has only 1 year warranty. I really want to have a technical approach as i cant afford to buy either of them again if it gets damaged. I hope you get what im driving at bro
@@icebaby271 In that case use the external SSD first. So if it ever wears out u can just take it out and get it replaced and you will still have your PS with you to play games on while your ext ssd is getting replaced.
I think I would buy based on... 1. does it have a heatsink 2. price 3. storage size 4. speed Having said that, these all looked pretty good. Can't wait to be entered and battle it out for that WD!
Read and write speeds are not about loading a game. It's about reading and writing. Moving the file from one place to another. Like ssd to internal, or disk to ssd
That is something we were originally going to add but worried the results could be completely skewed by the internet speed and whether it was strong or running the same for each test. If we tested how long it took to install a game from disc then that would also be an inaccurate test as well since Blu-Ray discs as well as blu-ray drives have a limit on how fast they can transfer data from them so it would not be testing the SSD speed at all but just moving at the speed of the disc drive. We did do one test that was not included in the video which we originally thought might make for a good comparison. We tested how fast a full game went from SSD to internal storage and back to SSD. The problem is that we found out while performing this test that Sony limits the read and write speed on the internal drive while transferring (this was found to be the case on other channels and sites we checked as well) so it would be the same time for each drive since the bottleneck happens at the internal drive and not the added SSD. So once again these tests were chosen because only the new SSD drive is a factor when performing these tests and wanted to give and accurate showing of which drives perform better in different areas of gameplay. Thanks for checking out the video!
When I have tough days, in order to stop thinking about s**t, I have to immerse myself into a game. But recently I've ran out of space and have been trying to find out which ssd I can buy so i can update my games to play them. I bought the WD t 1b Blue SN570... Unfortunately, I installed it and it wasn't compatible and had to return it to amazon (my fault for not doing thorough research). This video helps so much! Thanks fellas! It would be cool to win that ssd
No problem and we're happy that it was helpful. We feel the same way and it's exactly why I love video games. It's a nice break from the world and a great way to help stress. Well depending on the game lol. Thanks for your support and we appreciate you watching the video
Neither were we! The point of this video was more to show how close they all are. In most tests they were milliseconds apart. We are actually filming another SSD test this week with every size of the firecuda to see if that makes a difference as well.
Been reading about the Samsung 980 pro and lots of people said u have to update the firmware for the previous one for u can get better speed at ps5 like 6300 !! What u guys test was over 5500 read if im not wrong Thank u
That’s actually the on I (Jordan) kept in my PS5 after our test. I felt that the results were close enough that it really didn’t matter so much which one was being used
I got the Corsair one too. At least it doesn't have the problems that the Samung 980 Pro has, killing that drive prematurely, unless you update to the latest firmware. Plus it's less expensive.
There may be drives that benchmark faster than the 980 pro, drives that have more endurance (FireCuda 530) but the samsung is always the one on sale for 2TB under $200 and the differences will always be unnoticeable IMO. Also their OS migration tool has been AMAZING for me.
Yeah we think that is the main take away. The difference is very minimal so going for what is on sale is what we personally recommend. Thanks for your comment and we appreciate your support.
The Corsair is $120 for the 2TB version. It also has more endurance than the Samsung. So paying $30 more for the Samsung is getting you what exactly? A few seconds of loading time in games?
Hello from Australia! Great video, straight to the point, no extra babbling. Helped make my decision. First video I’ve watched on your channel and it was good enough to get a subscribe straight away. 👍
I know I’m late to the party and just recently got a PS5. Finally pulled the plug and decided to buy a 4TB Corsair SSD before seeing this…. I wanted to go for a bigger space so I can store more games. I know it came last place on this test, hopefully it’ll still be good and I’ll be satisfied with it!
I’m sure you will be! I (Jordan) ended up keeping the Corsair in my own PS5 after this video and I have been happy with it! Most of the tests we had to slow down frame by frame to even se which drive won. Really all of them are great!
That’s why I’m getting the corsair. 4 TB and a good price on Amazon at the moment. It will be replacing my 1TB FireCuda. Not based on performance, but based on size for long-term storage.
Yes understandable. All of these are great overall so that's the good news. Maybe just finding one on the right sale. Thank you for your support and for watching.
so glad you guys posted this wasnt sure between corsair n samsung and samsung is the cheapest of all 4 the 980 pro is 199 at best buy rn corsair is 209 and others 250
Glad we could help! Yeah the prices seem to fluctuate on these a lot depending on what sites or brand is doing a deal at the time. I think I’ve seen all of them as the highest and lowest at some time over the past year. That’s why in the video we point out that the results are so close for most tests that it would be best to get what’s cheapest.
Sure seems to me like they're all perfectly fine options and people should probably just get what they can find for the best price. I sure won't be losing any sleep over whether my games might load a half a second slower with the WD Black.
Cool little video. I have a Samsung 980 in my computer. It is a good m2 drive. These are all decent and seem to be all within seconds of each other. But there is always a winner! lol
Hows the download upload for it. Its either cuda , corsair or Samsung for me but im not sure yet. I would like 4tb but might wait see if they come down on price
@@CompleteGeekTV I thank you. I thought WD Black would win. Wanted to buy WD. But I will end up buying 980 Pro. I don't think I've ever seen such an honest review. And on the Elden Ring part, it was an epic moment. Congratulations one more time.
I would agree! They were all so close in loading the games anyway that it really isn’t a big enough difference. The firecuda definitely seemed to have the edge in our in-game test. That why we wanted to do this video so everyone can decide for themselves what benefits them most. After this video was finished Adam kept the Firecuda to put in his PS5 and I (Jordan) kept the Corsair. Even though the Corsair was technically last place I felt they were all so close in reality that it will be a great experience with any of them. We gave the others away.
Thanks dude. It was a lot of work to put together but it was also really fun once we got it all done. The results were interesting and even more so with the cheaper SSD

@@CompleteGeekTV thank you that was what I was looking for I noticed the Samsung was fastest loading into a game but the fire cuda was the best at loading anything in game thats what I think is more important but it would suck to buy 1 if the ps5 original was faster lol
Now you are seeing why you should do five runs and average them. Also, your recommendations should take into account the total writes (disability) of the drives.
I need help picking between the Samsung and Corsair. I know the Samsung got to menu screens faster in this video but which one actually loads into games quicker from a save file? They're both the same price right now.
We apologize that we're late on this and you may have already had your answer. They are both great. I think we would probably go with the Samsung if they are the same price but the Corsair is still solid. Even if it was 10 keeper we would go for it. @@CompleteGeekTV The 980 and 990 Pro family NVMe drives may have a faulty firmware turning the drive into an irreversible read-only mode Affected models; Samsung 980 PRO S5GXNF0R / S5GXNF0T / S5GXNG0N / S5GYNX0R / S69ENF0R / S69ENG0R / S6B0NG0R / 3B2QGXA7 Samsung 990 PRO 0B2QJXD7 ps. My 980 Pro 2TB was running with one of the affected (3B2QGXA7) firmwares. Luckily I have a PC with M.2 slot. I wonder how people who do not have a desktop PC will sort this because the firmware can only be flashed via Samsung Magician (Windows).
Not even to get the most out of it, there are models that have been shipped with a buggy firmware that will cause bad blocks on the drive and after it hits a certain SMART counter threshold it will go into read-only mode -- no recovering from it either unless you flash the firmware in time to prevent the issue in the first place.
Great comparison vid guys! Just subscribed and have been checking out your vids. Great channel, so thanks for adding more excellent content. Especially for us old geeks (52)! :) As for these M.2 drives, I've always been a fan of the WD Black series HDD's and use them in my gaming/media PC. I discovered these little badasses about a year ago and picked up a 1T SN850 to use as a root drive, which I also created a partition to store games on and have been absolutely amazed at how fast these little guys are. I also recently picked up a 2T SN850X to slide into the secondary slot on my mobo for additional storage because the Black Friday deals were so amazing for these and was able to pick it up for $179.99, which was just ridiculous for what you get. BTW, the 1T used for my root drive tested out at 7200mb/s(Read) - 6300mb/s(Write), but with the 2T running on the secondary slot, it's only getting 6300/Read - 6100/Write. I just installed this one, so after seeing these results I need to go into my bios to check the settings on it and see if I might be able to squeeze a little more out of it. Regardless, they're still giving me amazing speeds that I never had with standard SSD's, and even more so than with traditional HDD's, so I'm quite happy with them. I'll update if there's and change with the settings in my bios, but in the meantime, y'all keep doin whatcha do, and thanks again! \m/ (>_
Awesome video. Just wondering… did you do this test with the Samsung 980 after updating the firmware to optimize it? What were the read speeds on the ps5. Thanks.
No we did not update the Samsung. We literally opened it out of the box and put it in the PlayStation. Unless something has been drastically changed with newest shipment of Samsung drives I’m not sure where all this confusion of updating has come from because a lot of people have been commenting about it. Som have even said the Samsung doesn’t work unless you update it first. But ours worked fine and we just plugged it right in. I’m not sure how much it really matters since when you put a new drive in the PlayStation it asks you to format for ps5 use anyway which would delete everything off the drive. I don’t remember the exact speed that the PS5 claimed when putting the Samsung in but I do know that it was over 6000MB/s almost all them claimed a similar speed except the Corsair which was reading around 5000
@@swipernoswiper9 I’m not sure about the difference in gigabytes. Adam and I were literally just talking yesterday about trying to do a video with a 1tb, 2tb, and 4tb of the same brand drive to see if there are any differences because I think that would be interesting. Back when a built a computer in in 2006 I know that a larger space drive could run slower since there was more to search through. But those were spinning drives. Then when SSDs became the norm a few companies were actually showing faster speeds on larger drives than the smaller sized ones of the same brand. I’m not sure how it is for m.2 but I think it would be a great comparison and I’m sure we will do that video soon simply because we are genuinely curious about it as well!
id like to know how SSDs work but i dont know anything about them, like how did the WD black and sam sung come so close? its incredible that they were almost the same.
Incredible comparisons! Personally, I'd Still choose Samsung, then Wdblack as the first contenders. I love the next video you both put up- a cheaper SSD from Amazon (which was a great surprise in the matter of speed - This one would really bump Samsung down a notch. I'm nitpicky in choosing parts, and I do tend to read into specs, prices and performance. Thanks again to you both! Your perspective was extremely helpful!
Good video, but you didn’t show install speeds? Maybe download speeds provided you throttle your internet to a consistent speed. Also, 4th place is always 4th place regardless of a tie for 2nd. I’m a fan of the Samsung but I think the Firecuda is most important as in-game loading is far more important.
So once again these tests were chosen because only the new SSD drive is a factor when performing these tests and wanted to give an accurate showing of which drives perform better in different areas of gameplay. Thanks for checking out the video! And I agree with in game loading being most important as well!
@@CompleteGeekTV I hope it didn’t come across as you didn’t do a good job, as EVERYONE seems to be coming up with similar results. My biggest question to friends who’re even more tech savvy than myself is how that Seagate was slowest once then the fastest. Definitely left me scratching my head as to how large a swing in speeds that was.
You guys didn't say what capacity you were testing the SSDs. The read/write specs can be different depending on whether it's 1TB or 2TB, so during your testing were they all the same capacity?
I wouldn’t regret it. I (Jordan) actually kept the Corsair in my ps5 after the video. The results were so close and only milliseconds difference most of the time. On some test you can even see that we had to back up and move frame by frame just to find out the winner. I’ve using the Corsair for about 10 months now and it’s been great!
Do you know of its better with a firmware update? Have you tried? I've heard it can go faster. I bought one for someone as a gift too so I don't want to have to tell her I need to exchange it. The Samsung is sold out, however I can get the new WD drive today, any idea if thr new WD is better than the old? Sorry for all of the questions at once.
@@rainmouse2 we did NOT firmware update ours. And it was bought before the update was available. All drives were opened from the package and stuck right in PS5 that had all games completely removed so that it was a fresh install and the same starting point for each drive. Based on that I personally don’t think the update is really that necessary.
Yes it performed very well. We believe all 4 of these performed well. The Corsair was probably the worst as for scores but they were neck and neck with every test we did. We think you would be very pleased with the WD.
It's a great SSD. I've (Adam) I've been using it since after this video and Jordan is using the Corsair. The Firecuda is great and glad you got it for a good deal.
How are you loading theses offering different consoles or are you using the same console. What are you using to record? How is it started because the variable could be the user hitting the record button. ?
We made sure to cut out as much human error or outside influence as much as possible. So what we did was install each drive into a ps5 and do a fresh install of the game for each drive so that each time it was a fresh brand new loading of the game as if it was the first time the system played it. We recorded the hdmi output to an Atomos Ninja V recorder (typically used on movie sets for accurate time coding and high quality external recording of hdr footage) We did that separately for each drive and then matched the footage in Davinci resolve and fined tuned it to waveform so that all four drive recordings were starting at the exact same moment of when the button was pressed. We felt this was the best and most accurate way since trying to time button presses in real time on multiple systems would be very difficult and probably impossible. Doing it this way ensured that the recording for each drive was perfectly synced with the other and nothing was left to chance or human error.

@@WUHANVIRUS88 On the US Amazon they all cost around 140$ for 1Tb version. Even Firecuda
These results might be due to Firecuda having a bigger cache than the others. KC3000 should be even better on this, though I still ordered Firecuda for its coolest temps (with a heatsink) and claimed endurance, which is much higher than my completely failed one-year old (!) Samsung 980..

Thanks to you guys and this video I just got my Samsung 980 pro 2 TB today for my ps5. Just installed it. Very excited
Nice Adam! Thank you for watching and we hope you enjoy.

This. Longevity more than Speed.
Is a noob call
500 complete rewrites is surely enough isn't it?
1. does it have a heatsink
2. price
3. storage size
4. speed
Having said that, these all looked pretty good. Can't wait to be entered and battle it out for that WD!
Heatsink has to be low profile or the SSd won't work with the cover.

I'd say that "loading" a game isn't that important. The actual "in-game" loading is more important.
I was going to buy the samsung 980 pro then i read you need to update to the latest firmware to get the most out of it weird right?
We did NOT update this one we tested. All four drives were pulled out of the box and put right into the PlayStation.
@@CompleteGeekTV The 980 and 990 Pro family NVMe drives may have a faulty firmware turning the drive into an irreversible read-only mode
Affected models;
Samsung 980 PRO S5GXNF0R / S5GXNF0T / S5GXNG0N / S5GYNX0R / S69ENF0R / S69ENG0R / S6B0NG0R / 3B2QGXA7
Samsung 990 PRO 0B2QJXD7
ps.
Nice Clip. Thanks Guys

Great comparison vid guys! Just subscribed and have been checking out your vids. Great channel, so thanks for adding more excellent content. Especially for us old geeks (52)! :)
As for these M.2 drives, I've always been a fan of the WD Black series HDD's and use them in my gaming/media PC.

Awesome video! Thanks!
The corsair is like half the price of the next most expensive one
@@CompleteGeekTV does it matter how many GB it is ?

Agreed! I think anyone would be happy with any of the drives. Even at the slowest they were only a few seconds difference.
I think u should have run each test at least 3 times to test consistency
You guys didn't say what capacity you were testing the SSDs. The read/write specs can be different depending on whether it's 1TB or 2TB, so during your testing were they all the same capacity?

I wouldn’t regret it. I (Jordan) actually kept the Corsair in my ps5 after the video. The results were so close and only milliseconds difference most of the time. It's a great SSD. I've (Adam) I've been using it since after this video and Jordan is using the Corsair. The Firecuda is great and glad you got it for a good deal.
Honestly thanks cuz I was going to go for the Corsair cuz of the specs, it says it’s the best but now seeing I will go for the Samsung
I bought the Corsair. Samsung seems to be having issues with the 980 Pro, unless you update to the latest firmware. Plus the Corsair is like $20 less.
We recorded the hdmi output to an Atomos Ninja V recorder (typically used on movie sets for accurate time coding and high quality external recording of hdr footage)
We did that separately for each drive and then matched the footage in Davinci resolve and fined tuned it to waveform so that all four drive recordings were starting at the exact same moment of when the button was pressed. We felt this was the best and most accurate way since trying to time button presses in real time on multiple systems would be very difficult and probably impossible. Doing it this way ensured that the recording for each drive was perfectly synced with the other and nothing was left to chance or human error.
I’d like that WD. Very informative video guys.
Do you have these installed and you are doing this real time all four together or its this pulled from another source 🤔..
