@@livinglegacy8429 I did find some limited info on that. It seems inconsequential overall. Results all ended up mostly in the margin of error, with some wins going to the 980 & others to the 990. Mostly because the PS5 can't manage the full performance of the 990, which people assume based on the SSD performance check that's built into the console. SO ... I bought a 980 Pro. One big flaw of the PS5 is that you can't use the console to update the firmware of SSD's you put into the console. Not everyone has a SSD capable PC on hand to do that sort of stuff. This is a major oversight on Sony's part.
@@rye7839 That Firecuda SSD has a flaw in the firmware where the SSD bricks itself after a while. @@ljeans531 honestly the amount you would save by going 500gb vs 1tb isn't worth the risk of running out of space, I currently am using a 2tb and with the size of some games I think 1tb would be a good choice for how many games you use, the other option is you can play PS4 games directly off of an external hard drive, but you can move games that are PS5 to an external hard drive, and move them back, it takes a while but still faster than downloading the game over again. Don't ever buy a ssd pci chip for your PS5 that doesn't have a heatsink. It may harm your PS5 console by overheating it. Regardless these are significantly less expensive than the expansion drives that are made for the xbox series x or s models.
Isn't it a demand from Sony, that it has to have a heatsink?
Firecuda is considered one of the fastest if not THE fastest m.2 drive on the market for PC gaming rigs.. wild that the WD_black over took it on the PS5.
Also it didn't it's all about money! And who gets a kickback
so which is better?
@@its-fishy_xavi4365for me it's the FireCuda! Because I don't care about the price!
@@Punisher_MrWickThis is true because I own a Firecuda 530 4tb.
Firecuda is all the way!! The best for PS5… period!
I've just picked up a WD Black SN850 1TB for £95 on Amazon. Installed it today with no issues, running at around 6200 write speed on the PS5.
I bought that today!!
@@Adz187 good choice bud 👍🏻 really happy with mine
For me, it's between this or the Kingston... can't really decide :p

Just bought it, are u guys having any issues?
I personally use the 2TB Samsung SSD plus the Samsung T7 2TB External SSD for my PS4 games, and I haven't had a single complaint since I've used them. I did have a complaint with the screw to secure it. Specifically, I stripped the bloody screw and had to buy a replacement from Home Depot. But the SSD? Ran perfectly since installation.
I got a 2TB Samsung nvme and a 5tb PS4 external wd black drive for PS4 games.
I just got the Nextorage 2TB SSD and I'm not having any issues or complaints and it cost me $140. It's definitely the most affordable for the space you get
Yeah am looking at it now and heard its from a subsidiary company from sony, and it's the cheapest
I also got this. For the price it's def the best choice.
I get mine tomorrow happy to hear this.
Mine failed in 3 months so now I'm look for a different one
I just got the Crucial P5 with heatsink 2 TB on Amazon for 107.99. Gets great reviews. About 5600 MB/s read speed per the PS5 after formatting. Amazing that prices have been cut in half just since this video 6 months ago.
You recommend?
@@hhsksshej2718 Yes so far so good. No problems with it.
I just went for the firecuda, seagate is always the safest bet and the fact that Sony already use there parts was enough to sell me
I'm also leaning firecuda 🔥
i refuse to buy seagate. i’ve had multiple products of theirs fail on me throughout the last few years, very very disappointed in the brand and the warranty is pathetic compared to samsung and WD
I got the Samsung 980 pro 2tb for 140 dollars. Excellent product for the price point.
Thank you for the information.
I have the Samsung Pro 2 TB with Heatsink, and it's amazing. No complaints.
Did you have to update firmware?
@Johnny675 For the PS5, once installed, you do the update. Since then, this thing is a beast.
just ordered this on amazon, reviews we're amazing so I hope it works on my ps5.
Imo the corsair is the best on this list. It's near top speed, and usually the cheapest on a sale with 1,2, or 4tb options.
Question, does the 4TB Corsair come with a heatsink installed within?
@@lindsaymonroe567 all of the corsair do.
I have the 2T...and it is indeed fast.
The samsung 980 pro is over 60% off on Amazon right now. Got the 1 tb for like $86. Not sure how long that deal will last but it's the cheapest I've seen it get since I've been looking at them so I took advantage of the sale and snagged one up. Would have went with the 2 tb but I've already got a 1 tb external attached and at this point I feel like 1 more tb should be sufficient or I should admit that I've got a gaming problem 😂
2 tb for 159
I’m looking for 4-5TB😭
Yes just got the 2tb yesterday
I just copped the 2tb today from best buy. Is it okay to just go ahead and install in my ps5 as is? I've read reviews claiming in the past you needed to use Samsung to update the firmware. I don't think I have the ability to do that currently, but also saw others claiming newer models should be okay. It was only the older models. Anyone on here have any feedback on this? Or experience that can confirm if it's okay to use as is? Has anyone had any issues?
Amazon and samsung have it for 69 right now
He said the firecuda BEATS OFF is that an extra feature or do we have to pay more for that?
I just my 4TB XPG GAMMIX S70 BLADE today and so far I've got no complaints. It was really affordable for me hitting $350 for the storage size
Just got a PS5 yesterday and bought the WD_BLACK 2TB. Thanks for the tips.
Just got the WD Black SN850. for $100 during a sale at Best Buy! Thank you for reaffirming my purchase!
I only play single player games and buy cd games only.
I just load 6 games at a time and delete and reinstall a new game after that.
Who plays 6 games at a time ?
I have over 50 CD games , even adding a 4TB ssd is not holding them all.
What happens on digital Ps games once deleted they are lost forever or stored in cloud?
I chose the wd black, it helps a lot
Im about to install a WD Black SN850x 4tb, coupled with a GRAUGEAR heatsink/vented cover combo into my PS5. The SSD is currently 299 at Best Buy, the heatsink is 22.00 at Amazon.
Does it work? I’m considering to buy it.
@@Hellothere-ec6gm it does indeed!!!
is the WD_BLACK SN850X just a newer version to the WD_BLACK SN850 ? Or is it not suitable for a PS5?
SN850X is newer version which runs faster along with lower temperatures compared to SN850.
@@HattoriZero thank you. Before I had your reply , I emailed support and they said it was PC only??? I took the risk …… when it arrived, it said on the box that it was suitable for PS5!! So much for support!!
how come no actual tests? even with formatting on ps5? Lazy...boxes and ads can lie about speeds, while actual results can be much lower :\
I've been used an ADATA Legend 840 ssd in my PS5 for a year with no problem. It has very good price compared to others. Now ADATA is in my laptop and bought a 980 PRO heatsink version for the PS5 but I haven't noticed any difference in speed.
I installed a WD Black 2TB to my new ps5 "slim"and its been working great!!! No complaints here.😁👍
Samsung's 990 Pro seems to be king of the hill for now though.
It's rather recent but it might have been available already when this vid was made.
For now still limited to 2TB though.
Prices have also taken a nosedive the past few months since the vid was made.
Is it worth it over the 980? Like is there any noticeable difference?
@@livinglegacy8429 I did find some limited info on that. It seems inconsequential overall. Results all ended up mostly in the margin of error, with some wins going to the 980 & others to the 990.
Mostly because the PS5 can't manage the full performance of the 990, which people assume based on the SSD performance check that's built into the console.
SO ... I bought a 980 Pro. Saved me about 100 EUR I guess.
Although this video is not old, the WD sn850x would be the updated model of the sn850 for about the same price but better performance.
I was skeptical about the price being cheaper in the newest version and still couldn’t decide which to buy tbh, which do you recommend? Do you think there’s a catch?
@@lj1614 Looking up comparisons, the newer sn850x is faster in sequential read and write as well as random read and write speeds. I bought a couple newer sn850x 2tb drives and haven't been disappointed with them.
Don't get the corsair mp600. I just got it from Amazon a few days ago and installed it 4 times each time I booted up the playstation 5. It asked me to uninstall it from the drive bay. I checked all of the negative reviews for one star and I couldn't believe what was going on. So many people had issues including the drive failing within 3 or 4 months losing all progress.
i use the 980 Pro 2TB with the special Elecgear heatsink. 1 thing i needed to update the firmware to the latest version which only works with a pc's nvme slot. it does 6500MB/s
What happens if I don't update it? I don't have my own pc. I could maybe use someone else's but is it a hassle to update it? I would have to install it in to the pc wouldn't I? Sorry for dumb questions. I'm new to this and still learning
It will run at lower speed. I would recommend the WD SN850. It has no problems out of the box and is plug and play.@@anothergamingchannel2656
One big flaw of the PS5 is that you can't use the console to update the firmware of SSD's you put into the console. Not everyone has a SSD capable PC on hand to do that sort of stuff. This is a major oversight on Sony's part.
Isn't it just an advanced memory card at the end of the day? Would an ssd even need updates?
@@rye7839 That Firecuda SSD has a flaw in the firmware where the SSD bricks itself after a while. To fix it you need to update the SSD to the newest firmware before that happens, otherwise your SSD is done for. You can find more information about this issue with the Firecuda SSD if you search for it on the Internet. It's an issue within the read/write controller of the SSD.
This is my situation. I bought a 980 pro w heatsink today and not sure if I should just put in in my ps5 or if I need to do anything first. Keep hearing I should use Samsung magician first but I don't have my own personal pc to do it on and not tech savvy enough to really know how to do it if I did use a pc. I have a family member with a pc but do I have to actually install the ssd to do all that? I'm so confused lol
@@anothergamingchannel2656 there is an USB adapter for SSD's you can buy, not sure wqho sells them, but basically plug in the SSD to your laptop or pc through the usb slot to update the firmware. P.S. any Samsun with firmware version 1 to 1.5 is in the danger zone, ideally you want one that has firmware 3.0 or above out of the box or alternatively just look for the USB adapter and update the firmware yourself. Good Luck.

I have tried a 2 TB Sabrient Rocket Q4, a 2TB Samsung 980 pro, and a Inland Performance 2 TB drive, The Samsung 980 Pro works best, the speed it gave me after formatting is 6550 Mbps, the Sabrient and the Inland performance were about the same at 4990 Mbps and 4890 respectively.
QUESTION! Will buying a used ssd affect performance in any way?
@@ljeans531 I would personally not get one because it could have been used in crypto mining and could have a lot of it's writing cycles used, it could have very little life left in it.
@@thedivinityman Kk thank you!
I did have one last question about size. If I don't need to keep more than 6-7 triple A titles on my system at a time and delete most story based games when I'm done. Do I need 1TB? Or would 500gb be enough extra?
I keep COD multi-player only, plus Fortnite, and Battlefield. And then a few JRPG and single players plus indie games. I'm just worried about having to upgrade.
Personally I would recommend the 1tb, but the choice is yours. If you don't care about the fastest drive, the crucial P3 plus (make sure you get the plus the regular crucial P3 won't work in the PS5) 1TB works and it's like 55 bucks on Amazon, it is a bit slower than Sony recommends but so far my friend who uses it hasn't had any issues
