There is a way to save Solaire. It's hard to explain but time in Lordran is condiluded. If you go in that area in the opposite way and kill all the bugs then go back you'll meet Solaire sitting down and being moopy. Talk to him a bit and he'll be his usual self again and you can be together.

I feel bad for him too. Why did he have to go? It got depressing very fast. And I haven't even tried the game yet. I'm still working on Dragon Age 2. Yeah I am way behind on video games. There are four others I feel sorry for. Quelaag, The Fair Lady, Sif, and The Knight of Thorns. Quelaag was only trying to aid her sister and end her suffering. The Knight of Thorns was helping The Fair Lady too. The Fair Lady herself is very sick, weak, and blind. She even mistakes you for Quelaag because you have her soul after killing her. I doubt I could bring myself to kill the Lady. Sif was just being a good wolf and guarding his master's resting place, reminds me so much of Hachiko. Lastly, Solaire starts as a determined man with a passion that keeps him going. To see him fall into despair only for us to be forced to kill him. That's so damn depressing. I know Dark Souls is far from happy, but why does all this crap have to happen?

He doesn't go hollow, Dei. He just goes insane. As he doesn't find "his sun" (whatever it is for real). So he gets attacked by the red-eyed chaos bug, which holds the sunlight maggot form. A bug that looks like the sun. That thing makes him go insane and attack you, but he's still not hollow.

@@doncomedia7927 I think everyone goes hollow eventually, so there's really no way to "save" someone in the Dark Souls universe. The game's story seems to be an allegory for the inevitability of death, whether of individuals or the heat death of the universe. Gwyn and others tried so hard to keep the world "alive", but in the end the world dies slowly anyway.

Go in to the darkness and beyond. Thank you so much." You could hear the echo of tears dripping against the inside of our chosen ones helmet, and could almost feel the glorious smile of Solaire behind his helm. First time I played Dark Souls I was very happy for having Solaire as a friend. His
dialogues were amusing and his presence in a room was comforting. I felt very
confident fighting by his side. When his dialogues had become melancholic, I
should have suspected something. When he got mad because a mistake of mine, I
could not believe it. I ran away, I quit the game. But then I thought it would
be a worse fate if I left him as he was. I thought I could set him free. I fought
him, feeling ashamed of myself, but I was so sure that what I was doing was the
best for him. But when he said "It’s over… My sun is setting… It’s dark,
so dark…” I realized that I could not fix my mistake, and it did’nt matter
anymore if Solaire would live crazy or die: I felt guilty, and tears were shed.
I sealed his fate in a cruel way.

Gwyn's firstborn is probably not solaire but the nameless king from dark souls 3. lf you pay atention to the statue at the sunlight altar you can see that is the one missing in anor londo and that it has a spear, just like the nameless king
lt's said that solaire was the nameless king's faithful knight alonside with ornstein and he went looking for him after he went missing
Also the sunlight maggot kind of resembles the nameless king's hair so solaire might have been confused by that

@MichelKobayashi The 'Sun' he's talking about is more than just a metaphor for a son. When Solaire dies he realizes he is the sun, that is, the son of Gwyn. However, this isn't the true sun he's looking for. if you save him (which requires a lot of dedication), I realize the last words he says in his dialogue is simply "My sun...My dear, dear, son..." in an empty hallway to nobody but you. The player, The Dark Lord, is Solaire's son. Obsessed with the sun. Awaken in an insane asylum. So sad.

  • @EpicphoneGamer
    @EpicphoneGamer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Solaire, divine being i call my brother. Living the destiny of human existence, the hollowness of the things we are searching for in life. Is it true mastery? Is it true love? The treasures of success, the link to some god? Chasing down your own sun, it is inevitable to escape the fundamentals of life. First, as everything we hunt for is in it's essence impermanent, there will always be the potential of loss. A. Schopenhauer has some beautiful literature on this. Second, the psychological nature of mankind seems to be unfulfilled, constantly striving for more, being essentially unsatisfiable may have been the primitive drive that led us to achieve the things we achieved today, taking us from the dark ages to a bright future. Yet the sun is not to be found, we lack the experience of fundamental perfection due to clouds, blocking our sight. Little do we know, that we always have been this sun, and those clouds are just inside our heads. Meditation may be a key to liberation, yet we truly do not intent to be freed. Proceeding in the endless search for the sun is the true value, our travel towards our personal heaven on earth is our goal, and the illusion of a sun is the beautiful idea, enlightening our path. Praise the Sun!

Unlocking that passage has other uses. It grants you easy access to the sunlight maggot, of course. It also grants you access to Lost Izalith without having to go through a sea of lava. Instead, you have to face/flee from a respawning prowling demon each time, which is also incidentally an unlimited source of demon titanite, and if you don't have yet, a sure way to acquire a titanite catch pole.

If anyone else loved the music he edited in read this. As explained in description, the song is titled "Lacrimosa" by Mozart. But read the lyrics and it really deepens the choice and significance. Such a profound combination.
    Lyrics:
    Lacrimosa dies illa,
    qua resurget ex favilla
    judicandus homo reus:
    Huic ergo parce Deus.
    Pie Jesu Domine,
    Dona eis requiem.
    Amen.
    [English]
    Lacrimosa,

Totally out off topic, but did you go through the game with the dragon slayer spear? You're one of the first players I've seen to wield it. I really wanna wield the spear, but I'm not sure how effective it is compared to the other spears in the game.

  • @Melohalo

You can prevent Laurentius from dying if you refuse to tell him where you got your +15 Pyro hand.
Anastascia you can bring back from the dead.
Solaire can be saved if you access Path to Lost Izalith through shortcut with The Fair Lady.
    Priscilla is an optional fight.
But yeah that's about it I think. Everyone else dies and the game makes you feel bad for letting them die (or killing them). Especially some of the bosses. That's what Dark Souls does best though, it makes you depressed.
