Very sensible advice. I'm 48 and have tried every diet under the sun. Once I made peace with food and my body & focused on nourishing myself- that nothing is really banned- that is when I lost weight. I grew up in the 80s/90s toxic diet culture & it really ruined my relationship with food for more than half of my life.
Agree! You are so smart to use your mother's wisdom and your education to get across some very important nutritional advice. As someone who has struggled with finding a good way to eat and dealing with Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and high cholesterol I watch this and marvel at how easy your mom makes it look.
I'm American and I'd say absolutely, the French are better educated about healthy eating. Entire industries in the U.S. have a vested interest in keeping Americans ignorant about healthy eating. We are sick as a nation. I don't mean to be a downer, but it's a bad situation.
I'm intelligent and I'd say absolutely that there is a general difference between America and Europe in this area. Yes, stricter European laws keep the food safer and the tradition of markets and cooking at home is healthy. America allowed to be convinced that chemicals are the best nutrition, just like they allowed to be convinced that vacations and access to health care are a very bad thing, but a demented criminal at the center of power is a wonderful thing. This particular woman is Harvard style nutritionist (a vegetarian at best "with eat grains and grass" training) pretending to promote French nutrition just because the illiterate swoon about everything French. dr anna
Its a 'culture', and by no means accidental but in fact, engineered. It's cheap, families in poverty, it's mass produced, it makes people sick. AND it's been 'done' to them. Perfect 😑
It seems to me that most "naturally" thin people are people who learned about healthy eating pursuant to a healthy lifestyle early in life. A healthy lifestyle is a skillset. With that in mind, it's no wonder so many diets fail. People are trying to do a thing they never learned how to do properly.
With intermittent fasting for me I just have a mental association with “feeding time at the zoo” 😂 and I just can’t shift that mindset…I think all days are fundamentally different in terms of our activity levels, our energy levels, our emotional state, our obligations to friends and family so to have a time bound window of eating is in theory time efficient but in actuality for many it is somewhat restrictive and does not account for responding to our unique/individual hunger cues.
I love how your mom is willing to learn from you, and is also naturally an intuitive eater. If people listened to their intuition more, and were more confident about and aware of who they are so they could come from an authentic place, I wonder how different our country would be. You are making such a positive difference with your videos and programs. ❤
I’m 61 and I follow you coz I’m vegan and want to be healthy. I love your videos with your mum. She is a natural beauty and an inspiration. Lucky you to have her as a role model.
Great questions and answers from you both. I am constantly trying to eat balanced, nutritious meals. It's a daily practice, with struggles along the way. Thank you for all your encouragement.
You two are so easy to watch, easy to listen to, easy to like! I enjoy your so much. Thank you for your information, videos and recipes. I'm going to try two of them this week.
Mom is always a pleasure. We love he from Sweden/ USA!! I love how too two incorporate balance ! People live off lettuce and wanna lose body fat in a healthy way
Love these videos with mom..being from the US you are correct that we know what is healthy but we don't eat it as much as we should..wish I would of learned to be healthy when I was younger so it would be more natural..I feel like it's kinda hard to change things as you get older but im making small changes at a time.. your videos help me alot and I love learning more about the French way and the Mediterranean way of eating! 🥰
I agree with your Mom. Intermittent fasting can definately help lose weight because it helps you manage your hunger and has other benefits. When you stop, the weight can return, of course, so one should keep this in mind.
Fun Fact at 11:19, carbs are essential for moving the amino acid tryptophan to your brain to help form melatonin and serotonin, both of which make you sleepy. If youre going to do low carb for one meal for any reason, it's best to not do so for dinner!
I’ll add that we also have sugar in everything in US and it’s hard to find good quality treats. Eating good quality treats in moderation may be worth it but not if you only have nasty sugary treats.
So much common sense, it’s great to see/hear. I appreciate both of your perspectives on nutrition. As an aside, I wish my French was as good as your English. I took four years French in high school, but just haven’t had the opportunity to keep up with it/use it enough.
Thank you so much! And for my English I spent 5 years living in the US so I cheated a little hehe, I took 5 years of Spanish and can barely say a thing😂
I think eggs are a good source of protein, right? I like to have a hard-boiled egg as a snack or in salads, or a French omelette, or scrambled eggs with vegetables.
Very interesting. I think IF has a lot of science and a lot of new studies are being conducted right now. Of course not everything is for everybody and specially for special populations.
Love all your videos ❤ This one was a bit hard to listen to because of the talking over each other / arguing. Maybe it’s better if the questions are asked / filmed separately? Really excited to see more of the what I eat in a day from you both!! 🎉
I personally like it because it feels like they're very comfortable together! Lucie has plenty of other videos where she's talking alone. Don't you talk over your family members too? 😉
A++ I Love Your Mom!! This was so fun. I wanted to ask about soil in France? The way farming is done in the US a doctor said most people are not getting the nutrients they did for example in the 70's. They put a lot of chemicals on the fields and that takes away from proper nutrients we all need. Which adds to weight gain. How do u feel about this? I'm thinking in France it's like it's always been.😊💖💖💖
Gosh I just love your mom, she's so beautiful! I was wondering if she's had anything done to her face? Are French people in general big on Botox/fillers as a way to "maintain" themselves as they age?
I had to look up the meaning of fad diet... 😂 I think I naturally do intermittent fasting at the weekend ... usually wait until lunch to have my first meal, because I get out of bed later than usual.
Lucie, does your mom put sugar and/or cream in her coffee? Or does she drink it black? I'm just wondering, since she likes to have chocolate or bicuits with her coffee. Is it sweet with sweets, or is it a pairing of "bitter" with sweet?
Thank you for your all videos. I believe intermittent diet is not healthy in my experience it can ruin your thyroid gland and sleeping patterns so no point having good result of loose weight and short mental clarity but then loose the crucial part of your health.
Thank you soooo much for your help!!! What if we eat when anxious, my stomach just gets hungry every time I get nervous or something!! In those cases do we still listen to our hunger or try and ignore it since it’s more due to anxiety?
I understand that supplements are a market...but what happens if the doctor says you should be taking them...how does France market their supplements I live in Toronto Ontario Canada and I am interested in french life
I would totally trust you doctor on that!! I just meant that you needed to avoid buying a ton without an actual need to, just because of marketing. But they can absolutely be helpful in certain cases
Why the judgemental look @ mom when she said she might look into IF? lol It works for a lot of people and it's actually healthy for our bodies to have a break from digesting all those foods we put into them everyday.
@@Edukalebylucie I thought it was the generational thing. I give my parents a similar look at times, lol. But thanks for responding and for making these videos! I know it's gonna take a lot of time filming it, but a video of what your mom eats in a week would be soooo cool to watch.
Intermittent fasting is good to an extent because it allo3s your stomach and GI system to rest. It is not natural to be grazing 24/7 and our digestion is not designed to handle it. Fasting for daysm on the other hand, is a bad idea.
Your mum is wise, humble and open minded. It would be great if you learnt to be the same. Just because someone studied to be a nutritionist, it doesn't mean that they know better all the time especially compared to people who have decades of real world experience
You lost me at “incorporate sugar”. You guys need to read Gretchen Rubin who talks about moderators vs. Abstainers. Your advice only works for moderators. Moderators feel deprived and will rebel if they can’t eat something. They will feel sick if they eat too much sugar. Abstainers find freedom in just not eating something as they have more control and can stop having convos with themselves about when to eat something. Also, they don’t have that feeling of being sick when eating too much of something. They’ll happily finish off the ice cream or chocolate instead of just nibbling at it.
1:25 She's not LUCKY to be thin, she's thin because she doesn't overeat. And I presume she exercises too, even if that only means walking. Plus 'thin' is the wrong word, because that implies underweight, which she isn't.
But when one has sugar cravings one does not stop at one piece of chocolate. That’s what a craving is. You can’t stop. Or it’s hard to stop also how do the French develop “willpower”? Moderation requires willpower. Not so easy
I enjoy your videos and listening to your mother as well. However, the dumping you do on "Americans" is annoying, as if 372 million people all eat the same and badly. You live in a country with only 20% of our populations, and much less the land mass. So, please do not stereotype us. I love the fresh produce in France, but I live in New England and we also have many, many farmers markets with fresh produce, and fresh product in our stores. Our particular farmers market has produce, baked goods, etc. from local farms and privately owned small bakeries. I can go out to eat at restaurants in town and get a lovely, unique vegan or vegetarian meal. That is very difficult in France from my experience, unless I just want to eat uninspiring vegetables. So, please stop lumping all Americans together as if we are all the same.

That Sounds good… I‘m 43 and Grew up in the „Diet Culture of the 90s Heroin chic and so in…“ struggle still today… but there is hope 🙂🙂

I’ve heard that many French people tend to do intermittent fasting naturally. Is this true?
can your mum do another what i eat in a day ? so we can learn more about her diet and portion control :)
yes please!!
Yess we are planning that soon!
Please more food diaries with your mom, they are so inspiring 🥰
You have a gorgeous mom and I love her outlook on nutrition and health! Great video 🥰
Thank you!! 🥰

Good advice! I do have a vitamin d3 deficiency.
Is wine a supplement? If so, I'm on board!
Does your mom snack between meals and before bed? What time does she eat dinner
I tried intermittent fasting and I feel more disregulated. I want to try luongos fast mimicking diet though.

Your mom had eggs in her nicoise salad, thats a protein
Are supplements regulated in France? They aren’t in the USA
Slightly on a European level, but you can still buy however many you want with zero regulation
Question: Does your mom use hormone therapy? Thank you.😊
Mummy is right Namaste. To mummy
PS....the French lifestyle is born of the French Culture....more enjoyment and less punishment
