Kids are exposed to the same food as adults. As you know, kids always want to do what grown ups do. I always asked my daughter "Wanna try this?" and she did. If she did not like it, we'd leave it for a while, but we were still eating it, and obviously enjoying it, so there always came a day when she wanted to have another go. And if she still did not like it...again no more trying for a while etc. Do not traumatise kids by forcing them. If you eat everything and enjoy it, if mealtimes are pleasant experiences, most kids will just follow your lead. You do not hear things like "Oh, I will be naughty and have some dessert today." or "I will be good today and have no dessert." That is so off-putting and traumatic. There is no judgement around the tabble except for the quality of the food.

Traditional things like fresh linen table cloths on the dining table, polished silverware even if they are not all from the same set. Flowers and bowls of lemon or orange. Classic clothing and hair. On and on. My father was Australian and my mother Irish and native American. My grandmother was always an example of class. She could also relax and go camping with us.
Totally agree with the American friendships thing I kind of hate it and as someone who makes friendships the “French” way I get so happy when I don’t open up to someone too soon because most of the time it ends in people just talking about you rather than to you.
Really enjoyed this video. So much of what you say about France is the way the US used to be 20-30 years ago. Many Americans have become too "casual" with dress, manners, and meals. Casual has turned into trashy. I hope the French continue to keep their standards high. Any more tips on how to do this would be welcome!
I have a general rule for myself when it comes to clothes and that is, there has to be a difference in what you wear to lounge around the house and what you wear out.
Love this, reminds me of a story a French friend once told me. Her husband is from the US and they went to visit his family for Thanksgiving. They asked her if she liked sweet potato casserole (the kind with marshmallows) and she said "no, it's too sweet for me" and they were shocked and said "well now we know what you think" as if they hadn't just asked her what she thought. MDR!
I'm not French and the marshmallow sweet potatoes are too sweet for me. I took one small spoonful of them to please my grandmother, who always made them. But I really couldn't stand them. They were sweeter than the pumpkin pie!

I prefer it when people are just natural, honest and truthful that way you know where you stand with them and you know whether you can trust them or not. I am open and friendly and feel that is part of how people can get to know you but I am also careful about what I say, how much I say especially to people I don't know. This is a helpful video. People are increasingly put in boxes between which sometimes there is no longer any possibility of debate. The problem is that when the French are 'honest' and I call it rude, once an American or someone else is 'honest' with them, they do not like it at all. In the States Americans are very friendly and if after a while they freeze and do not care for a person, it is due to disappointment in the other person and not because they were fake friends or fake at first glance meeting the other. Some friendships do not work out. That is not being hypocritical.
What you say is absolutely false. If you're honest with a Frenchman he won't get angry. We prefer it when people are honest with us. On the other hand, if you disrespect them just because you want to get back at them for being honest with you, then yes they won't take it well. There's a difference between being honest and disrespecting people.

I don't think it's necessarily fake to be very warm and friendly when meeting someone for the first time. I totally understand how someone from a culture where people are more reserved may see it that way, though. But I think we do it not to put on a fake persona, but to make the person we're meeting feel welcomed and comfortable with us. But yeah -- you do have to be aware that it takes us probably just as long as it takes you to actually be close friends with someone :). I definitely get how it might be more difficult for someone from a different culture to gauge what your standing is with someone like this, though. I personally tend to be a bit more reserved to begin with than most people in my culture, but because I live in the U.S., I've always understood that the overly friendly thing is mostly just to be polite and welcoming and does not indicate whether the person does or does not want to actually be friends.
Just because this friendliness is used to make people feel more comfortable doesn't mean it isn't fake. It's absolutely fake, unless someone is naturally friendly to everyone, which isn't something you can tell about a person when you first meet them.

Some of us in America don’t understand the whole wearing lounge wear and athletic wear in public outside of a gym. Neither do we understand the need to follow trends. It’s very hard to generalize and be accurate. People from the US and very different based on what region whether they live in urban suburban or rural areas. With a population of 333 million vs 67 million it should be fairly clear we are not all the same here. I guess women in the US don’t assume there is anything we can honestly say all women here never do.
As an American I was taught to look put together when you leave the house. No lounge wear as a normal outfit. I'm polite to people I don't know. If I don't know you it is that and only that at least until I get to know you more. As a matter of fact I don't call people my friends I say acquaintance if they truly are not my friend.
I don't think that table manners (and good manners in general) would be something cumbersome and outdated. Rather, the lack of manners is often disruptive.
(I'm French and vegan with a tomato allergy): just tell them when they invite you so they can anticipate 😊 It's 100% okay to do so, we love to adapt to our guests so we make them happy with the food we cook 😊
For exemple, they can be (not all, fortunaly), like Lucie said, very polite, classy outdoor, but very capricious, annoying, harassing towards their very close (male but maybe not only) entourage, monopolizing all the attention, and very tiring until they get what they want indoor. It can be (rarely) for importants things (projects), but most of the time for whims, or to force their entourage to adapt to them. It's a small provocation but it's a subject that comes up regularly between french men, and it seems to be an upward trend, for sure, french men are not perfect either, but i hear that more and more from them. (i rarely heard these words twenty years ago, but it has become very frequent). I'm not sure it concern only french women, but prolly a large part of the occidental countries. Once again, and fortunately, i don't think these behaviours concerns the majority of french women, but year after year, a growing part of them. Overall French women usually take vitamin D, magnesium or iron but more like temporary treatments during the year; not all year around. If I compare to my American acquaintances, I would like to say that we tend to take fewer supplements than you do, probably because Healthcare being almost free here; we are not as cautious. However, people consider eating and exercising as being part of Healthcare here... so
Some things are similar to turkish culture, but I wouldn't say that in general the turkish are like that because it differs also from region of turkey or which education they got from their families. I think it is similar also to other cultures you cannot say in general because it depends on the families their religion and so on. But if you travel to a country or city you see only a part of the people who are talking with you and so on. E.g. I was in London and I often asked the people because they were so gentle but the most were only migrated or worked temporary there therefore it is difficult if you are living for a short time there or are in vacation to say how the culture of a country is in general and it is almost influenced by other cultures.
French is more classy compared to American. French people are just effortlessly beautiful and respectful like they don't need to dress like Kardashians or wear heavy makeups ❤️❤️😍 I also love their eating habits and language of course 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️

This honesty is european. You can say the same about Germans, Dutch etc: they will not pretend to be friendly. The French, german, Dutch will always be very clear about telling you if they do not like sthg. The French and Italian will try to be tactful....the Dutch and Germans will be direct and clear. They might ask to speak to the manager, DISCREETLY if there is a big failing that they feel should be addressed, to prevent it from being repeated.
I find family meals very confrontational. I prefer to eat alone in my room. Any info that you give your family or friends gets weaponized against you. So no talking in America .❤❤❤

I've lived alone since 2002. I have heard of and experienced the French convivial meal, but I'm eating all my meals alone. Which is fine! I like living alone. But I don't just want to stare into space at my dining table, so I read or watch TH-cam/documentaries/whatnot. I wonder what French people in the same situation do?
Belgian here and I'm in France at least 10 times per year for longer stretches of time and have been for over 40 years. I also fluently speak French and have lots of French friends. I disagree with your last item. French women DO like drama and make a scene, often with lots of huffs and puffs and rolling eyes and some sharp comments on the stupidity of the people involved.It's the party i do not like about French women ;)

I REALLY love the simplicity of how they dress, do makeup and the color of nail polish. I feel all the nail designs are so ugly herr in the US. However, I do love my yoga pants. I don't like tight clothes or itchy clothes. I love soft, stretchy pants so much. Table manners--i feel like I do ok, but I'll watch the video you made to compare. I recently realized my 12 year old probably needs to be taught table manners though. 😂 And I'm sure there is room for improvement for me.

Your mum I have seen having an afternoon snack of a cookie and coffee, so they do eat cookies as snacks.

I've lived alone since 2002. I have heard of and experienced the French convivial meal, but I'm eating all my meals alone. Which is fine! I like living alone. But I don't just want to stare into space at my dining table, so I read or watch TH-cam/documentaries/whatnot. I wonder what French people in the same situation do?
Belgian here and I'm in France at least 10 times per year for longer stretches of time and have been for over 40 years. I also fluently speak French and have lots of French friends.
I disagree with your last item. French women DO like drama and make a scene, often with lots of huffs and puffs and rolling eyes and some sharp comments on the stupidity of the people involved.It's the party i do not like about French women ;)

I REALLY love the simplicity of how they dress, do makeup and the color of nail polish. I feel all the nail designs are so ugly herr in the US.
However, I do love my yoga pants. I don't like tight clothes or itchy clothes. I love soft, stretchy pants so much.
