NES Playthroughs are so strange. I remember as a kid spending hours and hours on these games. Then you watch some guy complete it on youtube in like 20 minutes LOL!
@@AlexVonCrank That's true. I think I perhaps had a little more finger dexterity, reflexes and perseverance, but I definitely did make dumb decisions in games a lot.
@Mark I have thought that could be the case. When you play on an emulator, you can save state at the touch of a button. My friend and I played through Mario 3 using it while getting drunk. Just saved state every few seconds when we were safe and just redid shit over and over. Whenever we died or got hit, just a quick reload and try again. So I wonder if there's some feature you can do with that, which only takes all your 'best plays' and compiles them into one perfect run.
@Mark I guess that's how to do it then. The dream would be, find a nice lassie that's going to enjoy playing through all the old school NES and SNES classics together, with the other person manning the SaveState/LoadState buttons. Few drinks, bit of gaming, bit of sex. Does it get better than that?
Watching and listening this instantly take me to the only part of my life, where I was genuinely happy. I remember me and my brother watching my father play it (most of the time anyway) and once we had control over the joysticks, the battle of death came through. Pre-2000 were the best years.

The raincoat protects against the waterfall, the football helmet the falling spikes, the earphones those music notes produced by the bad guy, and the flamesuit protects against the flames (obviously). That's why he can walk through all those things without taking damage. Peace
I remember playing this game at the local arcade back in early 1988. I got to the end twice (after failing two other times by going in the wrong side of the skull door, which takes you back to the beginning of the game). I liked the music at the end as the ship sails away into the sunset. Back in the day, I always thought that "Last Wave", from the game OutRun, would really have fit that scene.

One of the first Metroidvanias ever made. While it had no bosses, you had to deal with the Fratellis, and in later stages, you had to confront a ghost that may be One-Eyed Willy's. On a side note, you must rescue ALL the Goonies, or else, you won't be able to play the final stage because you will be sent back to Stage 1.
Too bad its was never released here in north america. You needed a unlicensed 260-1 cartridge to play the game here and i remember that i had it in the 90s.

Shamefully say that, when I was a kid, my family could not affort to buy for me japanese games. so my mum bought for me pirate version as you mentioned it 260 unlicenced game cartridge. when I was kid I didnt know it was unlicenced, but I spent time with those unlicenced games. It was so beautiful memory. Anyhow thx for uploading. You just bring me back to the 90s.
@@HeroesofXanaduSloth , actually, it DID technically have an official release in the NTSB-U market, only it was in the arcade under the Vs. line of arcade games, as well as, strangely enough, on a Play-Choice 10 arcade cabinet, but it is also a hard to find arcade cabinet in either instance, especially for the latter instance. Moreover, you can now also get this game as a stand alone game cartridge, which, by the way, is done to perfection... seriously, it looks, as well as feels, like it came from Konami back in the 1980s. There are several cool variant covers of the game, but, to be honest, the one that retails for around $45-$50 (USA) on Etsy is most likely how the legitimate cartridge would have looked like back in the day had it been released on the NES.

Thanks for this. I remember hiring this game in the mid 90s from the video store just to try and clock it in the weekends. I never did, but there is something about these retro scrolling games that I love more than the types of games you get these days. An absolute classic!

Although the game was never sold in retail in North America, Nintendo published an arcade port in North America for the Nintendo VS. System (a coin-operated platform which runs on the same hardware as the NES) under the title Vs. The Goonies and it was also available as a PlayChoice-10 title in the region. A sequel was released titled The Goonies II, which saw a worldwide retail release. The main theme song for most of the game is a chiptune rendition of Cyndi Lauper's "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough".
99% of people here saying they remember this from their childhood are confusing it with Goonies 2, which is what was released on the NES in America and Canada. This game, Goonies 1, never came out in the US. Although the music and look is similar, they are very different games.

It was one of my childhood games.. when my English was nothing... I read it likes Guiness or something. And 20 years later i read its Goonies.. and i realize it was from Movies where Thanos went and became star of the movies..
In the late 80s, I loved playing this game on Play Choice 10 and was always frustrated that video stores always had the second game, but not the first. I never enjoyed part 2 that much, thinking it was too complicated, but the first was always fun. Sadly, I never got to play it in arcades that much, and years later, I found out that the reason why it was only on Play Choice 10 here was because outside of that, it didn't get a North American release. But years later, thanks to video playthroughs, I was finally able to see this game in its entirety.

I grew up in a strange house. I wasn't allowed to watch many movies but I had this game. I didn't even realize it was a movie before a game until years later. 😂😂 I remember telling a friend "did you see they made that game into a movie?" And he looked at me with a black expression.
The only places I ever found this game was in a Laundromat game room in Mississippi back in 1987 and at an amusement park arcade in Memphis back in 1993. Some friends in my 3rd grade year loved this game. When Konami released a sequel and I got it for my 10th birthday, it was the same play control but whole new labyrinths and other cool stuff. It confused all my friends but after 8 months of trial and error, I beat the game. Something that many elementary school kids gave up on and that was long before Internet.

That pretty neat. I will give it a try when i have some free time. I ported this game to a north american cartridge and i been selling it for a while now since this game is unfortunately famicom exclusive. My customers can finally play it on a actual nes instead of a famicom system.
I have a question for you, just curiosity. You are from USA? Because I'm from Brazil and here it was commom to us, NES owners, to have an cartridge adapter from Famicom (although we used to call "Japanese Nintendo") to NES. You had this adapters as well?
We also had them over here although most of the kids never seen one or even knew that they existed. The multi-games cartridges were more common than the adapter over here.
I spent hours n hours every single day to see the end of this game. But I lost n failed so many times. Finally I cleared all the stages of Goonies after playing it for millions of times.
all my nostalgia.... I did not have this game but cousin had it. so every time i visit his place we would play this. and recently after the 2023 oscar i got to know this was a movie and then i watched the movie and then i suddenly struck by a thought that i know a game called goonies. i did not know the game was with a movie until today. I played the game without having an idea about anything that is from the movie. The childhood was awesome. all my nostalgia.... I did not have this game but cousin had it. so every time i visit his place we would play this. and recently after the 2023 oscar i got to know this was a movie and then i watched the movie and then i suddenly struck by a thought that i know a game called goonies. i did not know the game was with a movie until today. I played the game without having an idea about anything that is from the movie. The childhood was awesome. I'm from India, in case someone reading this comment is wondering how i did not about a movie called goonies.

Goonies can be pretty hard game when you have the guess all the location of the items. Glad i could show you the right path and help you out.
