The authors of the Synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John aren't actually named Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They're anonymous, no one knows who wrote the Gospels because there are no original copies so we have no idea what the original Gospels even said. All we have is copies of copies of translations of copies of an oral tradition that was handed down over a period of time. So, knowing that, if a group of men came to you and said "We want you to give us 10% to 20% of your income for the rest of your life and we also want you to live by our rules". When you reply "Why should I do that?", they'll hand you a book which will be copies of copies of translations of copies of stories. You'll have no way of verifying who wrote the stories AND you'll have no way of verifying any fact within the stories. Would you believe what was written in the book and agree to follow their rules?

Have you given any thought to the particulars? What kind of clothes will Jesus wear? A business suit? Will he actually ride a horse or will he drive a Mercedes or will he pilot a Leer Jet? Is he going to "return" to Jerusalem or to a field in Missouri or...where? If he lands in the Middle East, will he be uniquely distinguishable from other, similar-looking men? The descriptions and hints found in the New Testament are all hopelessly vague and primitive and became implausible many centuries ago. If Jesus had returned when he said he would, within a generation, all the biblical descriptions might make sense. But two thousand years later, the descriptions in the Revelation--the robes and horses and archers and swords and catapults and lunar eclipses and small boats and olive oil and candlesticks and scrolls and stars below the rain clouds and on and on--don't make much sense.

Forget Why Didn't Jesus Come When We Had the Printing Press. He's coming back when we have TV and internet. Every eye will see him.
