I have never played the ZX series, I've only played Megaman Zero 1-3 via the Zero Collection on DS (never beat Zero 4) and just finished Zero 1 and 2 via the new collection on Switch. Can't wait to replay 3! (But I want to finish Dragon Quest 11 before I head back into the Zero Series.) Can't wait to try out ZX and ZX Advent. They seem really fun, even more fun than the Zero Series (I'm not a fan of the Cyber Elf system) and I love metroidvanias and open worlds so they should be really fun.

I'm playing them all on the Z/ZX legacy Collection, with only ZXA remaining to be beaten. The ZX games are really fun, but I thought that the map in ZX was OVERLY annoying, requiring a lot of unnecessary backtrack (and I don't dislike backtrack!) ZXA on the other hand offers so much more Variety in stages, bosses, powers (even If some are Very situational) and a MUCH better world design that mixes the MM and Metroidvania formulas much nicer than the previous title. I really don't know why J dislikes it!

I always liked how Ciel was too much of a genius she perfectly recreated X and a new energy source from her own design. The only reason Copy X turned out that way was because he didn't have a Doctor Light at his side constantly teaching him humane traits.

Heavily agreed. For almost any "leap of faith" in these games, you can slide down cautiously to feel out your environment. There are some legit leaps of faith of I remember right, don't get me wrong, but they are far and few between.
TheGiroExpress pretty much agree, though, there is that one ledge in the stage with the bombs in zero 1 that have moving platforms under them that is almost impossible to see due to the screen size.
I fearfully remember the "Disable the 8 time bombs" Phantom-stage in MMZ with that one part with the open pit and flying worker-platforms. Nearly impossible without losing lives.
It's not like he knew that spikes would be there to begin with. He could have wall clinged down the wall but not everybody will think to do the same thing.
Man, Zero 3 was my entry point and I immediately fell in love with the series and after playing Zero 2 and 4, I decided that Zero 3 was and still is my absolute favorite in the series. I bought the collection with no regrets since I wanted an excuse to play Zero 3 and ZX again. Speaking of, can't wait to hear your thoughts on ZX and Advent and overall, the Zero series is indeed soild. Now on to the ZX games!

At this point theres no reason for a zero 5 the story ended at 4 and I would rather not have another X6 situation. It's a real shame ZX didnt quite get going before they stopped making them.
We easily could get a Zero 5; I don't think Zero 4 even had his most convincing death in the series, just the only one that seems to have stuck. They could easily invent some stupid bullshit to bring him back, they've done it many times before.

I'v always thought the character Zero was a badass, but the GBA version made me fall in love with the character. Reploids switching their bulky armor for more sleeker ones made sense, and is my prefered type of character design. I loved the character so much that I even bought a high quality figurine of him (it was very expensive). Thank you for making this video, Dude of the Ant.
The Mega man zero series is my favorite games in the mega man series. And it’s nice to hear about them after so long, since they’re seriously underrated. Also, thanks for referencing Departure. I still find myself listening to that song even after all these years.
This is my favorite Megaman series ever. The gameplay is fun, and the overall story is definitely the darkest ever. Its absolutely amazing. I love it so much
I wished that they’ld put in the “blood effect” for the international version since it’s very little but looked hella cool Oh well,if Capcom ever plans to make a remake for the Zero games,they better keep that in mind
Mega Man zero 3 is definitely the best in the series. I saw J reviews game reviews on these last year and I wound up playing these and had a great time. This zero is also the original zero who's soul is in a new body and his body is being used by omega who has his original body. If you are going to play any of these play Mega Man 3 which has the best story and strongest gameplay.
5:50 not only to mention that Elpizo, a "secondary" character is the one that destroys X original body for good, basically killing the original hero forever.
Elf X still shows up in Zero 3, but goes missing by the start of Zero 4 because he spent a lot of his Cyber Elf energy defending the Resistance base from Weil

As someone who loved the idea behind "Now I have your power!" too much. I have a soft spot for the knuckle in Zero 4. Give me a Mega Man game where the only weapons you get are savaged from your enemies. I want Mega Man to wear a Met hat that allows him a triple shot or maybe even allows you to tank some damage before it breaks.
Here’s something I found about the art direction. Intie Creates, the company who made these games, also did Megaman 9. Which is probably why two of the guardians, the green and blue one (sorry I don’t know their names) look like Tornado Man and Splash Woman from 9.
I love the Zero series so much. It's always been my favorite Mega Man series by far. That thing you described as flow is something that I honestly love so much that it makes it really hard to go back to the X games honestly. As I tend to see things grim I envision that end of Zero-series is utterly berserk-insane Zero relentlessly chopping, hacking, ripping, tearing, slashing, slicing and mutilating constantly regenerating pieces of Dr. Weil at the center of impact crater Ragnarok left.
I first played the Zero games in the Zero collection on DS, I really enjoyed them. The ZX games too. My god, just remembering it now makes me want to play these games again.

Love this series. It's what got me into Mega Man in the first place. Despite growing to love the other games, I keep finding myself going back to this and ZX all the time. The world, characters and gameplay are just stellar, and even in its roughest parts its still far more consistent in quality than its sister X series. Thank you for bringing more attention to it!
I could criticize your pronunciations of Ciel and Weil, but they're gratuitous use of French and German respectively. Boss rushes aren't _just_ padding, they're also a test of your personal skill growth (did you barely scrape by those guys the first time, or are you good enough to reliably beat them?) and mastery of the elemental/weapon subsystems. They're often mishandled, but personally they're one of the parts I most _look forward to_ in a good action game.
@@greeneye2037 As I explained at great length, boss rushes serve thematic and game flow purposes and aren't just padding. By that logic having more than one instance of a standard, non-boss enemy is also padding, as are having multiple instances of similar jump challenges. And lots of people care how Ciel is pronounced SEA-el and Weil is pronounced VILE. Particularly French and German natives respectively. Maybe I'm a bit too nice to correct the guy making the video for an honest and easy mistake, but I'm not above correcting you for insisting that adding knowledge is useless.
Interesting thing about zero 3. There's a whole combo system to work with. The basic explanation is that each move you can do has a priority number from 0-5. You can chain moves in ascending priority (Z saber combo into his ryujin ex skill) I'd look up magnus zero's tech guide for more info
10:59 In the Mega Man Zero Collection on DS, you don't have to worry about that stuff. It includes an easy scenario mode that gives you all the abilities from the start, and it goes through every game in one sitting.
Yup, easily my go to way to play it in either collection. Legacy brought it back too but they called it Casual Scenario, and it carries into ZX and ZXA.
Fun fact: after a certain mission (don't remember which one) in Zero 3 you can check Ciel's computer for info about the guardians where it states that they were created using X's DNA, essentially making them X clones.
Not quite. As established in Mega Man Xtreme 2, Reploid DNA is the Reploid equivalent of a human's soul. So being created from X's DNA means they come from his soul. X's profile on the Rockman Zero Collection (DS) website states that when he sealed the Dark Elf, not only did it force his soul from his body, it split it into five cyber-elves with only one elf retaining his memories. Bodies were made for the five souls with the memoryless ones becoming the four guardians. The one with X's memories, however, went into hiding and so the body made for him was repurposed into Copy X (this last bit comes from Copy X's profile). So the guardians are less X's clones and more actual pieces of X.
Tbh tho, that X6 ending is just one of the many parallel lines that leads into MMZ. There's one in X5 too, and in X7/8 they seemed to be going that way as well. It's confusing in an awesome way, knowing that all endings are canon and not canon at the same time.
I've played a lot of freakin Mega Man games. Out of every game from the classic, X, Zero, and ZX games, Zero 3 is definitely my favorite. Always happy to see more people talk about these 4 hidden gems on the GBA.
9:25 Ok don't have much problem with this video but how are these areas leaps of faith. Wall sliding is a very prominent ability in these games, so a long wall going down a pit should be a clear indication AND an oppurtunity to react to those hazards.
About that part of Zero getting sealed in X6 (to lead into the Zero Series), that was later "retconned" by Capcom. Officially that Scene happens at some indefinite point in the future, not right after X6 itself, which is why Zero's still around in X7/X8
See what happens when you only stick to the classics? You lose fantastic series, with better story and a gameplay even more fluid than it already is, but who am I to judge? Since I‘ve grown up with the Megaman X and Megaman zero after all
I just started the zero series after finishing both the classic series & the X series (forgot about X7 & 8 though) and I love everything about it. The story is so much better in the zero series and for those that haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend it.
Smooth combat with an (eventual) overall focus on cohesive and fun gameplay over tight, precise platforming in a video game made by Inti Creates for a handheld Nintendo console that has a multi game plot with continuity? Might I recommend the Azure Striker Gunvolt series, which is similar to these games (based on your review)
Some of my favorite games and a series I come back to every couple years for another 4 game run through (z1 gets shorter with time, since when you're good at the game you can basically stomp the game with like 2 upgrade elves and just sidestep the grinding alltogether). Really glad people are getting into them and appreciating them for all the right reasons.
Inti Creates did a fantastic job with these series and because of the story, sprites and great controls makes this one of my favorite series in the Mega Man franchise

Alright, Ant-Zero, I need to address the elephant in the room. Ciel is pronounced as See-L, not Seal. Dr. Weil is pronounced as While, not Whale. Alternatively, you can go with Dr. Vile, his name in Japan.
Note to Antdude: Pressing Up on Three of the Biometals (Model H, Model L, Model P) when using charge attacks results in a different charge attack. I want to let you know about this as it took most of Mega Man ZX to find out.
I love the Z Knuckle. Certain enemies have really cool weapons and it's fun to play around with them. And I loved the Weather system letting you choose your difficulty. It's my favorite entry in the Z series by far. I wish there was more grinding because I didn't wanna stop.
Ya'll better buy this collection guys. The Zero/ZX series sold extremely poorly worldwide. By buying it, Capcom'll realize there's still a demand for this series and will definitely make the fabled ZX Etremus in the near future
In Zero 1, there's an enemy that's a purple spiked pillar early on that you can beat up over and over, because it regenerates segments, making it easy to grind up your weapons, especially the saber.

So the Z-Knuckle does have a better usage when playing in Hard Mode. In the original, Hard Mode would disable full charge for both Saber/Gun, as well as Saber combos. So there were actual cases where the enemy's weapon was actually a better choice (i.e there's a walking enemy that either has an axe or hammer, and I'd see others do gameplay with the axe for the final boss in Zero 4) , on top of some situations where it would help with platforming/secrets in the stage

Lol, it only starts being complex here. The classic games are as bare bones as you can get and the X series only sorta hints at ideas without actually doing anything with any of them. Honestly the Megaman Franchise has one of the most wasted plots in all of gaming, so much it could've done but it being a kids game it never really decided to tackle any of the ideas it hinted at.

I fearfully remember the "Disable the 8 time bombs" Phantom-stage in MMZ with that one part with the open pit and flying worker-platforms. Nearly impossible without losing lives.
It's not like he knew that spikes would be there to begin with. He could have wall clinged down the wall but not everybody will think to do the same thing.
Man, Zero 3 was my entry point and I immediately fell in love with the series and after playing Zero 2 and 4, I decided that Zero 3 was and still is my absolute favorite in the series. I bought the collection with no regrets since I wanted an excuse to play Zero 3 and ZX again. Speaking of, can't wait to hear your thoughts on ZX and Advent and overall, the Zero series is indeed soild. Now on to the ZX games!
The Megaman Zero series is my favorite Megaman series. I really hope we get a ZX 3, we sadly can't get a true Zero 5 due to the ending of 4 . . .

At this point theres no reason for a zero 5 the story ended at 4 and I would rather not have another X6 situation. It's a real shame ZX didnt quite get going before they stopped making them.
We easily could get a Zero 5; I don't think Zero 4 even had his most convincing death in the series, just the only one that seems to have stuck. They could easily invent some stupid bullshit to bring him back, they've done it many times before.

I'v always thought the character Zero was a badass, but the GBA version made me fall in love with the character. Reploids switching their bulky armor for more sleeker ones made sense, and is my prefered type of character design. I loved the character so much that I even bought a high quality figurine of him (it was very expensive). Thank you for making this video, Dude of the Ant.
The Mega man zero series is my favorite games in the mega man series. And it’s nice to hear about them after so long, since they’re seriously underrated.

This is my favorite Megaman series ever. The gameplay is fun, and the overall story is definitely the darkest ever. Its absolutely amazing. I love it so much

I'm so glad to see that this fantastic series is finally gaining some much deserved attention with this collection.
Mega Man zero 3 is definitely the best in the series.
I saw J reviews game reviews on these last year and I wound up playing these and had a great time.
This zero is also the original zero who's soul is in a new body and his body is being used by omega who has his original body.
If you are going to play any of these play Mega Man 3 which has the best story and strongest gameplay.

Elpizo is the main villain of the second game lol.
but X's spirit still lived on as a cyber elf, and later became a biometal, so death isn't really a permanent thing for these main characters haha
Elf X still shows up in Zero 3, but goes missing by the start of Zero 4 because he spent a lot of his Cyber Elf energy defending the Resistance base from Weil

It makes me happy to see my favorite Megaman series get some love and attention. If I was back in middle school, this would seem like a pipe dream.
As someone who loved the idea behind "Now I have your power!" too much. I have a soft spot for the knuckle in Zero 4. Give me a Mega Man game where the only weapons you get are savaged from your enemies. I want Mega Man to wear a Met hat that allows him a triple shot or maybe even allows you to tank some damage before it breaks.

Here’s something I found about the art direction. Intie Creates, the company who made these games, also did Megaman 9. Which is probably why two of the guardians, the green and blue one (sorry I don’t know their names) look like Tornado Man and Splash Woman from 9.

I love the Zero series so much. It's always been my favorite Mega Man series by far. That thing you described as flow is something that I honestly love so much that it makes it really hard to go back to the X games honestly. Everything being built in a way that compliments skilled and fast gameplay and combat is so good that I find myself screaming that the X series doesn't do more of that tbh :/

I first played the Zero games in the Zero collection on DS, I really enjoyed them. The ZX games too. My god, just remembering it now makes me want to play these games again.

Love this series. It's what got me into Mega Man in the first place. Despite growing to love the other games, I keep finding myself going back to this and ZX all the time. The world, characters and gameplay are just stellar, and even in its roughest parts its still far more consistent in quality than its sister X series. Thank you for bringing more attention to it!
I could criticize your pronunciations of Ciel and Weil, but they're gratuitous use of French and German respectively.
Boss rushes aren't _just_ padding, they're also a test of your personal skill growth (did you barely scrape by those guys the first time, or are you good enough to reliably beat them?) and mastery of the elemental/weapon subsystems. They're often mishandled, but personally they're one of the parts I most _look forward to_ in a good action game.
Its like the best place to test out all your cool combos. Especially in Zero 3

@@greeneye2037 As I explained at great length, boss rushes serve thematic and game flow purposes and aren't just padding. By that logic having more than one instance of a standard, non-boss enemy is also padding, as are having multiple instances of similar jump challenges.
And lots of people care how Ciel is pronounced SEA-el and Weil is pronounced VILE. Particularly French and German natives respectively. Maybe I'm a bit too nice to correct the guy making the video for an honest and easy mistake, but I'm not above correcting you for insisting that adding knowledge is useless.

Interesting thing about zero 3. There's a whole combo system to work with. The basic explanation is that each move you can do has a priority number from 0-5. You can chain moves in ascending priority (Z saber combo into his ryujin ex skill) I'd look up magnus zero's tech guide for more info

Yup, easily my go to way to play it in either collection. Legacy brought it back too but they called it Casual Scenario, and it carries into ZX and ZXA.

Fun fact: after a certain mission (don't remember which one) in Zero 3 you can check Ciel's computer for info about the guardians where it states that they were created using X's DNA, essentially making them X clones.
Not quite. As established in Mega Man Xtreme 2, Reploid DNA is the Reploid equivalent of a human's soul. So being created from X's DNA means they come from his soul. X's profile on the Rockman Zero Collection (DS) website states that when he sealed the Dark Elf, not only did it force his soul from his body, it split it into five cyber-elves with only one elf retaining his memories. Bodies were made for the five souls with the memoryless ones becoming the four guardians. The one with X's memories, however, went into hiding and so the body made for him was repurposed into Copy X (this last bit comes from Copy X's profile). So the guardians are less X's clones and more actual pieces of X.

Tbh tho, that X6 ending is just one of the many parallel lines that leads into MMZ. There's one in X5 too, and in X7/8 they seemed to be going that way as well. It's confusing in an awesome way, knowing that all endings are canon and not canon at the same time.
I've played a lot of freakin Mega Man games. Out of every game from the classic, X, Zero, and ZX games, Zero 3 is definitely my favorite. Always happy to see more people talk about these 4 hidden gems on the GBA.

Ok don't have much problem with this video but how are these areas leaps of faith. Wall sliding is a very prominent ability in these games, so a long wall going down a pit should be a clear indication AND an oppurtunity to react to those hazards.

About that part of Zero getting sealed in X6 (to lead into the Zero Series), that was later "retconned" by Capcom. Officially that Scene happens at some indefinite point in the future, not right after X6 itself, which is why Zero's still around in X7/X8

I just started the zero series after finishing both the classic series & the X series (forgot about X7 & 8 though) and I love everything about it. The story is so much better in the zero series and for those that haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend it.
Smooth combat with an (eventual) overall focus on cohesive and fun gameplay over tight, precise platforming in a video game made by Inti Creates for a handheld Nintendo console that has a multi game plot with continuity?
Might I recommend the Azure Striker Gunvolt series, which is similar to these games (based on your review)
Some of my favorite games and a series I come back to every couple years for another 4 game run through (z1 gets shorter with time, since when you're good at the game you can basically stomp the game with like 2 upgrade elves and just sidestep the grinding alltogether). Really glad people are getting into them and appreciating them for all the right reasons.

Actually, Zero's ending in X6 was actually the ending to the entire X series as a whole, not for his side of the story in X6 itself.
Technically X5 was written as the conclusion to the series.

Note to Antdude: Pressing Up on Three of the Biometals (Model H, Model L, Model P) when using charge attacks results in a different charge attack. I want to let you know about this as it took most of Mega Man ZX to find out.

I love the Z Knuckle. Certain enemies have really cool weapons and it's fun to play around with them. And I loved the Weather system letting you choose your difficulty. It's my favorite entry in the Z series by far. I wish there was more grinding because I didn't wanna stop.
Ya'll better buy this collection guys. The Zero/ZX series sold extremely poorly worldwide. By buying it, Capcom'll realize there's still a demand for this series and will definitely make the fabled ZX Etremus in the near future

In Zero 1, there's an enemy that's a purple spiked pillar early on that you can beat up over and over, because it regenerates segments, making it easy to grind up your weapons, especially the saber.

So the Z-Knuckle does have a better usage when playing in Hard Mode. In the original, Hard Mode would disable full charge for both Saber/Gun, as well as Saber combos. So there were actual cases where the enemy's weapon was actually a better choice (i.e there's a walking enemy that either has an axe or hammer, and I'd see others do gameplay with the axe for the final boss in Zero 4) , on top of some situations where it would help with platforming/secrets in the stage

What the hell 😲 I didn't realize Mega Man universe was that deep and complex. I think it's time to finally check those games.
Lol, it only starts being complex here. The classic games are as bare bones as you can get and the X series only sorta hints at ideas without actually doing anything with any of them. Honestly the Megaman Franchise has one of the most wasted plots in all of gaming, so much it could've done but it being a kids game it never really decided to tackle any of the ideas it hinted at.
It's the first time I've seen someone like Zero 2 more than 4, usually everyone says that 3 and 4 are the best and nobody gives a damn about 2.
