Fun fact: The Japanese version of ZX has full voice acting like ZX Advent, but they removed all voice acting from the game outside of the anime cutscenes. Also Grey was voiced by Peter von Gomm, who voiced Flame Hyenard & X in X7.
“In this world there are two kinds of People. People who are you and people who are me. You are not me which is why your ideals are wrong. Change happens because [something about destiny and the future].” -the one that was supposed to be the fefnir clone in ZXA
YER MUH BOOTY OI. WHERE U GOING WITH MY BOOTY?! (By booty she means Buddy but for the sake of the humor we're keeping it booty) That...is what I hope to see in a sequel title. Wish they'd STOP with the time skips. We have multiple X games, and classic megaman games. We can do the same for ZX series too e.e
The story changes a lot depending on the character you chose. In ZX, Vent's story focuses on the connections with the Zero series whilr Aile's deals more in the origins of Biometals and what is to come. Ashe and Grey have also two different arcs and your choice affects the dialogue.
2:19 No, choosing between Vent and Aile actually has a narrative change: Vent learns about how Model W came to be and what it "means" to be a Mega Man, while Aile's story focuses on the Game of Destiny that would drive the entirety of ZX Advent and the origins of the post-Zero era new wave of Mavericks. Girouette's backstory changes too, in Vent's scenario, he became Mega Man Model Z after he separated from Vent, and in Aile's scenario he was always a guardian because he always knew the Maverick raid at the Amusement park wasn't just incidental and they were looking for the compatible host or "Chosen One". As for Weil being pronounced Vile... Well, there's the canon CD dramas (what Inti do because they don't have the budget for a full blown anime, and Capcom sure as hell won't make any unless it makes loads of cash like Battle Network did), there've been up here in TH-cam translated for years, and his theme is even called "Fate -Theme of Vile-" =P
11:46 "Storywise, it doesn't make sense". God, I hate being the annoying know-it-all but: Omega's entry to the atmosphere in Zero 3 caused the Cyberspace phenomena to ocurr. This has happened before, and it's a result of the Zero Virus; Zero Space, the last levels of X5, is basically "data" caused to "manifest" into the real world (caused by the Virus that makes reploids go maverick), aka for the Internet and the Real World to begin to interlink. The Ragnarok is having the same effect because Weil had already replicated the Virus if we go by Popla Cocapetri's dialogue. Area N is the Crash Site for the Ragnarok Space Colony and the "N" even stands for Network, and that's the thing. The moment you enter it, you're no longer in the real world, you're in the same strange Cyberspace phenomena from X5 and fighting the Z3/Z4 bosses and Omega is you simply fighting their "souls" in the Network the same way you refight Phantom in Z3. Ragnarok and Eurasia are very much alike: They're both Space Colonies overtaken by their respective games' badguy, with a virus to control over everything and their debris impacting land causes the Cyberspace phenomena to happen. Knowing inti-creates' knack for story and the CD dramas explaining how he was in charge of analyzing Zero's original body (which was the source of the Original Virus that infected Sigma) and how Omega is the Zero that Wily intended (an obedient killing machine), Weil most likely intended to cause the Zero Space to manifest once more to prove his rule that "only Neo Arcadia is safe", as well as use his own version of the Virus (taken from the one in Zero's original body, no doubt) being the reason Model W is a thing to begin with.
On Vent's story, Prairie gets to tell Vent a history lesson about big sis Ciel & Zero & basically what's going on after Ragnarok event. U get to see Dr. Weil's shadow. On the before the final battle against Serpent, she starting to like Vent a bit (only because he reminds her a little of Zero). On Aile's story, she told Prairie or at least she said Prairie loves Giro because he reminded her of a certain crimson big bro. Yes Prairie, as you have seen on all 4 Zero games & ZX1 is indeed Alouette. Yes the 4 X-Guardians are the same in essence as all 6 Biometals made by Ciel have shells resembling the weapons.
And Ashe and Grey have gameplay differences that he someone completely missed. Like their charge shot, Homing shot, and a unique move for almost every form.
@@albaneedge The character is known in Japan as Dr. Vile, however he was renamed (in spelling, at least) to avoid confusion with Mega Man X's Vile, whose name is VAVA in Japan. Weil's western name is "because" in German, since he is the cause of the larger scope events of the Zero series (i.e. "all happened because of Weil") and this german word is still pronounced the exact same as Vile.
Grey and Ashe has their own set of differences. Their charge shots as Megaman H, P, L and F are different. Grey's ZX form can do the midair down slash. While Ashe's ZX form can do the rising slash.
Model A also functions differently. Grey: His charge shot is standard, and his homing shot fires multiple shots at once. Ashe: Her charge shot is basically the Gemini Laser, and her homing shot fires a single shot that targets the selected enemies in order.

Actually, for ZX and ZX Advent, the character choices do matter, less in ZX. In ZX, their dialogue in certain scenes is slightly changed, and Aile crawls faster. In ZX Advent, they are two different characters, but they both existed in the same game. The reason you never meet up is because whoever you don’t choose dies in their intro. And of course, their relations to the main bad are different as well. EDIT: and technically Model A is based on the big bad, not Axl, but no one believes this. ZX3 was supposed to be the game to link to Legends. Neat, huh?
He's based on Axl but she's still not him, she's outright stated as Model Albert. While Model A may have Axl's A-Trans power from X7 that was only a title given to it in the western version, in the japanese version she has Trans-On not A-Trans.
SuxMenner what I meant is that Model A is Model Albert, but he definitely took inspiration from Axl, with the ability and even the name. Trans-On is still extremely similar to A-Trans, and is most likely a nod to the other.
I'd say that it matters more in ZX. The story changes much more in ZX than in ZXA depending on the character choice. In ZXA the differences story wise are "Ashe is a descendant of Albert, while Grey is a reploid made by Albert as a contingency plan in case something goes wrong, both of them meet Model A and shit happens, without really telling that much about their past", but besides that and the first stage, nothing changes storywise, while in ZX there are a ton of scenes that are completely different depending of if you are playing Aile or Vent, backstory, relationships and motivations included. Gameplay, though, I agree, the differences are much bigger in ZXA... and I don't consider that a plus, to be honest, as Ashe, IIRC and in my opinion, ended with the better movepool, and coupled with the fact that she was more fun, both in personality and in story than Grey, cemented her as my main by a very long shot. Grey only redeeming quality for me, at that point, was that he met Aile (who I liked better than Vent, but the difference wasn't nearly as big as with Ashe and Grey), and that's that. And even that was a mixed blessing, as while her CG voice was good enough, her in-game voice had a quality so low that it looked like between the animated sequence and the rest of the game, she aged like 30 years. Also, you forgot to mention that Aile can change the color of her civil form, while Vent can't, in ZX.
BATTLE NETWORK COLLECTION!!!! Also, please play Gunvolt 1 on the 3DS with the 3D turned on, it's really great and totally worth playing that version if the 3D effect interests you at all
I still wish Capcom could explain the link between all Mega Man timelines in form of separated games in their own unique styles, but that just seems more like a fan-fiction at this point, judging by how Capcom likes to maintain this whole series in an eternal cliffhanger. Still, glad to see ZX and ZX Advent get some attention, such underrated gems.
I missed the Zero/ZX games when they were released, choosing the Battle Network games instead (I'm a sucker for the classic series and loved the exe redesigns), but eventually picked up ZX Advent on sale ~2008. Had a pretty decent time with that one, so I bought the DS Zero Collection a few years later, but ended up only playing through the first MM Zero game. I got too OCD about stage rankings and collecting/leveling all the cyber elves resulting in me being too burnt out to play through 2-4, so I feel like I should give the series another chance and pick this collection up. I think the combination of having it on a tv instead of a handheld along with a trophy list to complete will give me more incentive to push through so I can finally get the full MM Zero experience.
Having a bigger controller is very useful for Zero collection. If you pick up the collection I recomend using the save assist feature. Zero games are brutal due to the crunched view. Lots of bs and things rushing in from off screen with little time to react. Save assist saves you the frustration.
Also I should mention I, despite not being a perfectionist or completionist, also obsessed over ranks and wanting to get the EX skills. They make it so hard to get and you cant retry it later which blows. And even if you play casually and dont care about ranks, you miss out on skills and have an ugly letter on screen at all times reminding you that you apparently suck at the game. So you're not alone in feeling the A rank burnout. Just played the collection and damn its tough sometimes
Just picked it up today so I've taken the plunge, lol. Thanks for the info, I always appreciate hearing about other people's experiences with games in the MM series, especially ones I'm not as familiar with. I still have to go through Command Mission at some point as well (I'm a big fan of Capcom's Breath of Fire series, so a MMX rpg should be pretty engaging), but I think I'm going to start on these first. I've been feeling that ZX Advent nostalgia ever since watching the vid.
ZXA has booty, nectar, and bosoms, best Mega Man to date, clearly. In all seriousness, I love the combat in ZX, can give the Zero series a run for its money. Too bad ZXA declined in quality aside from the map, overdrive is so much fun to use once you learn how it works. Now that Capcom has come back full force with the series....I'm almost certain we'll get BNLC and ZX3. They did say they do not want to deny any Mega Man series of its future. Post edit: ZXA isn't bad, I simply don't find it as good as ZX for many of reasons explained in video. Still very much worth playing, as with every game in this collection.
ZXA feels a bit more refined in a lot of places imo, though the boss transformations feel a bit unnecessary. I never really missed overdrive because it never really felt intuitive to use. I tried it several times when I was struggeling on a boss with a weakness to an appropriate element but it never really worked out for me. That said, I didnt feel it needed to be removed, but I guess they wanted more insentive to use the bosses.
ZXA is probably my favourite Megaman game to play. Even though the bosses are janky to play as I still love their inclusion. I thoght it was so cool being able to transform into the bosses you beat instead of just getting their weapon. I had a lot of fun trying to use them as much as possible.
You missed the oportunity to put Thetis' voice, too cheezy, kinda reminded me the "legendary" voice acting of X4, X7 and Mega Man 8. And about the characters in ZX and ZX Advent, in the 1st game is pretty much if you want to suffer with more knockback from taking damage until you get the shock absorber chip, in Advent some stuff with the Biometal movesets are slighty different and makes different scenarios easier or harder, for example, Grey in ZX biometal he has the EX skill to slash downwards and Ashe has the up slash in the ground instead and the "R" button attack of Model A is different as well and the charged shot (Grey's is more like the standard X charge shot and Ashe's is a laser that can bounce in the walls, ground and cellings).
“I’ll give you a taste of my special nectar” /rises out of his chair furiously/ DO YOU MIND?! I AM A RESPECTABLE MAN! Come AntDude let us leave while we still have our dignity! “Special nectar” indeed! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
There are differences between characters Aile crawls faster , but gets knocked down farther than vent. Ashe and grey get different moves for megaman forms
these games are so completely underrated. some of the first i ever remember playing and beating (beating far after playing for the first time, for zx but not zxa)
Megaman Zx advent was basically my first MegaMan game, and maybe that’s why I love this game lmfao I never even knew there was a ZX 1 till I went to a game store and saw it years later
I am still not used to the frequent an upload schedule from Ant. That editor is great at this, tbh. Also, I got burnt out trying to do all the side quests and such in ZX, and the Dpad of the Pro Controller suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks for side scrolling stuff like this.
The first one wasn't so great to navigate imo, sometimes the level design made you become lost easily. Advent was great, still remember that sweet highway music! It's a pity there wasn't a third game considering advent's secret ending...
ZX and ZXA will always be my favorite MM games, the controls, the characters, the music, etc. It's all really perfect And these, besides the Zero games, will hold a special place in my heart because those were the last games I've played with my brother before he moved out of the house to do his own thing on another country
Antdude, I have five facts to say about these games that you didn’t cover in this video. 1: The Biometals in ZX have an additional charge attack when you press up while unleashing the attack. Took me most of ZX to find out. Model H: Incredible Multi-hitting move that goes up and down. Model F: Shoots attack upwards. Model L: Ice Dragon that tracks Opponents. Model P: One hit Shield..... That’s it. 2:Prairie is Alluoette as she references Zero, Ciel, Weil and Ragnarok. Basically confirming it. 3: Vent and Aile have alternative dialogue during cutscenes with Aile having a softer nature compared to Vent. 4: Chronoforce can protect itself from attacks from above even on land. That’s it 5: I don’t know if you noticed but in Zx Advent, Grey and Ashe are very different when it comes to playing as them. Grey: Standard Mega Man fare when it comes to the Buster. Sub weapon shoots a homing attack at every enemy locked on. One for each one. Ashe: Has Zero 2&3’s Laser shot Ex skill at default but can only shoot two bullets at a time. Sub weapon is lightning that attacks one enemy before moving on to the next. Just thought I might get the info out there. Edit: You forgot to talk about how broken Omega is if you use the Overdrive Mechanic. All the Guardian Biometals have this function but Omega is special. It is unlimited until you get hit, gives you Certain Ex Skills from the Zero games and has different screen nukes if you use the Buster charge Buster while holding Down.
First ZX was one of the first games I completed from start to finish so im definetly biased in my liking of it but one of the things I really loved was that when you save people they appear on the town and some of them recognize you it makes this world feel lived in
I remember first seeing this game when walking into a gamestop and seeing it on the shelf. Had recently beaten the Zero series so decided to try it out. Now I'm glad more people get to experience it because it was FIRE.
ZX1 is my favorite Mega Man game. It controls so fluidly and has a great roundup of bosses (especially the Omega fight). The world of ZX was much more fun and interesting to explore for secrets. The biometals alone pushes ZX far above everything else. Each of them were not only fun to play as but had a lot of use cases throughout the game. I'll replay this game in a heartbeat.
I actually found there to be some good story and AntDude seemed to overlook many details. Model A isnt Axl, model Z is Zero, and Prairie has a lot of evidence yhat she is alllouette, like some references she makes in ZX.
@@randominternetuser5872 its still good and do you hate it that much? And compared to megaman games in general its amazing. Unless you really think its story is worse than every megaman besides megaman 1
It's through the Zero and ZX series that I got introduced to Inti Creates and boy, am I happy I did. The Zero and ZX series along with the Gunvolt games are amazing and I've always been a keen fan of Blaster Master on the NES so seeing them remade and expanded upon by them was a joy. Loved each and every one of them. Always looking forward to their next project and they're a sure buy from me.
The voices in ZXA are cheesy, but I like it a lot. The MegaMen have fitting voices with decent execution, and I especially love Prometheus. Best voice in the game by far.
Today I learned that there was a Mega Man ZX and Mega Man Star Force series. Last I heard the Mega Man Zero and Mega Man Battle Network series were the new ones. Damn I'm old.
Took me 18 hours to beat ZX. Hardest part was getting the energy tank in lava field but I got lucky: Chrome was memory leaking and slowed down the game considerably. It was like MM:11’s speed gear. Helped me concentrate enough to get it. Difficulty in the game was way too high for kids. Side quests were horribly contrived. I enjoyed the game overall but they really need to playtest more.
ZX Advent is just, pure nostalgia for me. I remember having that game when I was really young, and I never finished it, cause I always got confused on where to go. I also thought the gimmick of be able to transform into the games bosses was really cool, I still do. I really want to play it again, but I don’t have the means to do so.
the theory goes that since in the ZX era reploids are given artificial lifespans as well as giving humans cybernetics to put them on par with reploids, she changed her name so she could keep existing as what she was built as. As such her existence would be illegal. Further, reploids are purposefully built to have 'organs/systems' utterly incompatible with humans (now called humanoids) to prevent part/organ theft.
Huh, I was not aware of that, that’s actually very interesting, I was just a little confused as to why she would not want to be called Alouette anymore AKA the name that Ciel (her biggest mentor) gave her
Omg after so long I finally found out that this was the game I had when I was little I always had faint memories of the 2nd game in this series but never could figure out where they were from, ik you'll probably never see this but thanks lol
There ARE differences between the characters! Vent and Aile have different versions of their charge attacks in the four forms. Ashe and Grey have a lot more differences, though mainly in Ashe getting a better damage per shot double shot, while Grey has a weaker but faster triple shot.
I wish you could go back to Model X in ZX. Yeah yeah "Zero's cooler" "Model X is boring" blah blah blah. I like X more than Zero. So having Model X separated from Z would have been so much better in my opinion.
@@aionicthunder I think he means without having to play the game twice like just having the option there from the start. I kinda agree but I guess it's good incentive to play it again if the story wasn't your thing
Fun fact, The Sage Trinity's first names are based off all the scientist from the Classic series. Ant pointed out Albert as Wily, but Thomas is based of Light, and Mikhail is based off Cossack.
On top of all the other games you've mentioned that Inti Creates went on to make, they also made a game called Dragon Marked for Death, which is a game that is heavily based on the Mega Man Zero games in terms of gameplay (the main character even plays very very similarly to Z-Saber/Z-Buster Zero). Basically imagine a Mega Man Zero game in a medieval setting with RPG elements, and that's Dragon Marked for Death. Very good game, I highly recommend.
Honestly, I'm just glad Capcom didn't forget these and the Zero series when they released the Legacy collections. You have no idea how stoked I was when I came across these on the Switch E-shop. In my mind, it really solidified that Zero and ZX are apart of the "main" series.
Megaman zero is actually my favorite megaman sub series. *this comment contains major spoilers so read at your own risk* This takes place many hundreds of years after zero and ciel does succeed in making a renewable power source for reploids. Technology has advanced to the point of reploids and humans being just about the same and being able to merge their power when using a biometal like biometal z, x p, h, or, f The new megamen are based off the old ones and having personality traits similar to them. The first ones map kinda sucks and involves lots of backtracking and just isn't as fun as it could be while the level design and pixel art looks and is amazing. This is also because of ciel really that humanity and the robots would be at peace honoring x's and dr lights wishes.
Zero 2-4 and both zx games are actually my top 5 favorite mega man games. And yes, I’ve beaten all classic games and most of the x games 1. Zero 2 2: zx advent 3: zx 4: zero 3 or 4 5: zero 3 or 4 I can’t decide on zero 3 and 4
I still wanna see a Megaman Starforce Legacy collection! But both Starforce and Battle Network does suffer from multiples version so dunno how they would handled without changing the game a bit and try make like Emerald or Platinum version doing the Pokémon comparison.
I’m a huge fan of metroidvania’s and when I was younger this was the first one I had played and really influenced my taste growing up. (ZxA to clarify) It’ll always have a place in my heart and I still think it’s cool that you can play as the bosses.

That...is what I hope to see in a sequel title.
Ashe's story > Star Wars Rise of Skywalker.

@@smashmaster521yeah that's zero's treasure
I thought the "Vile" thing was because in the japanese version his name starts with V instead of W

Neat, huh?
But technically Model A is just Axl, Capcom or Inti just won't outright say it
He's based on Axl but she's still not him, she's outright stated as Model Albert.
Ehh. I would’ve preferred if Both protagonists met each other in ZXA. They could’ve had an interesting dynamic wouldn’t you think?

The way that you can change the layouts for ZX gives me hope for a Starforce Legacy Collection
13:03 Up until this point, I was looking at ZX and Advent and thinking, “Man, these look an awful lot like Gunvolt.”
...
Well, no wonder.
*COME CRY IN MY BOSOM*
ZXA feels a bit more refined in a lot of places imo, though the boss transformations feel a bit unnecessary. I never really missed overdrive because it never really felt intuitive to use. I tried it several times when I was struggeling on a boss with a weakness to an appropriate element but it never really worked out for me. That said, I didnt feel it needed to be removed, but I guess they wanted more insentive to use the bosses.
@@sothe0539 I prefer zx to zxa. I find zxa to be boring I don't like the protagonist very much. This is just my opinion
Hey, ZXA isn’t bad!

That’s it
5: I don’t know if you noticed but in Zx Advent, Grey and Ashe are very different when it comes to playing as them.
First ZX was one of the first games I completed from start to finish so im definetly biased in my liking of it but one of the things I really loved was that when you save people they appear on the town and some of them recognize you it makes this world feel lived in

the theory goes that since in the ZX era reploids are given artificial lifespans as well as giving humans cybernetics to put them on par with reploids, she changed her name so she could keep existing as what she was built as. As such her existence would be illegal. Further, reploids are purposefully built to have 'organs/systems' utterly incompatible with humans (now called humanoids) to prevent part/organ theft.
Huh, I was not aware of that, that’s actually very interesting, I was just a little confused as to why she would not want to be called Alouette anymore AKA the name that Ciel (her biggest mentor) gave her
Omg after so long I finally found out that this was the game I had when I was little I always had faint memories of the 2nd game in this series but never could figure out where they were from, ik you'll probably never see this but thanks lol
the only thing I don’t really like is the fact that I can’t use x normally, Wasting the x
I think you can. Read up somewhere that it is possible to use Model X in ZX1, but I can't remember how it's done.
@@Tanner31904 the question is that it is not very accessible, you know?
You can use model x after model z fuse with him but you need 2 save files with vent and aile
There ARE differences between the characters!
Vent and Aile have different versions of their charge attacks in the four forms.
Ashe and Grey have a lot more differences, though mainly in Ashe getting a better damage per shot double shot, while Grey has a weaker but faster triple shot.
13:56 Mega Man Forgotten Legacy Collection anybody?
While playing ZX this last weekend, I got on Google and typed in "Gimme da mega man zx map pretty pls"
I wish you could go back to Model X in ZX.
Yeah yeah "Zero's cooler" "Model X is boring" blah blah blah.
I like X more than Zero. So having Model X separated from Z would have been so much better in my opinion.
If you do a play through with both Vent & Aile, the 3rd play through will allow you to play as Model X
If you beat the game with both Vent and Aile, you can keep Model X through the whole game on your third playthrough.
@@aionicthunder I think he means without having to play the game twice like just having the option there from the start. I kinda agree but I guess it's good incentive to play it again if the story wasn't your thing
@@BioMega96 Thank you, and yes.
@@justagundam no prob brah
Fun fact, The Sage Trinity's first names are based off all the scientist from the Classic series.
Ant pointed out Albert as Wily, but Thomas is based of Light, and Mikhail is based off Cossack.
Yeahh. New NitroRad video
I'm waiting for a Megaman Legends collection with dual analog support for MML1
(I can see people asking for Megaman 64... fools!)
Legends>64.
Also i hope they make mml3 for that...
Too bad they didnt make a mmzx3 for the z/zx collection...
I just want to add the Mega Man Legends series to my Nintendo PlayStation Switch library.
That would be great.
*this comment contains major spoilers so read at your own risk*
This takes place many hundreds of years after zero and ciel does succeed in making a renewable power source for reploids.
Technology has advanced to the point of reploids and humans being just about the same and being able to merge their power when using a biometal like biometal z, x p, h, or, f
The new megamen are based off the old ones and having personality traits similar to them.
And yes, I’ve beaten all classic games and most of the x games
1. Zero 2
2: zx advent
3: zx
4: zero 3 or 4
5: zero 3 or 4
I can’t decide on zero 3 and 4
Hey Ant, can you review Star Fox Zero with Jirard The Completionist please?
I still wanna see a Megaman Starforce Legacy collection!
But both Starforce and Battle Network does suffer from multiples version so dunno how they would handled without changing the game a bit and try make like Emerald or Platinum version doing the Pokémon comparison.
I’m a huge fan of metroidvania’s and when I was younger this was the first one I had played and really influenced my taste growing up. (ZxA to clarify) It’ll always have a place in my heart and I still think it’s cool that you can play as the bosses.
OK I WAS WATCHING THIS, AND THEN GOT ON MY SWITCH AND SAW THE BATTLE NETWORK LEGACY COLLECTION. . . WHAT KIND OF BLACK MAGIC DO YOU USE ANTDUDE
