    New pin: I wanna say that this is now on my small list of "videos I'll redo" someday. There's just a lot of things that didn't make it from my head to voice properly, could've researched better, and could've analyzed better. Just a lot of "Could've" things that my current standard would do differently. However, I know lots of people like this video, so I'm leaving it up and I'm not putting (OUTDATED) or (OLD) in the title. I feel that would be disingenuous to myself 3.5 years ago, who worked hard on this. Learning to make videos is a journey of improvement, and I'm not gonna erase part of it because I improved.

      Thing is, Zero would have died in his first battle after Ciel awakens him... if it wasn't for Unknown X. He reverses the trope from the X series; now, X is the one who rescues Zero repeatedly.

  • @TheEmperorGulcasa

    I think it's worth noting that Zero is one of the few robots in the entire series under no obligation to follow the laws of robotics. He was purpose built by Wily to be the ultimate Maverick and bane of humanity and other robots alike. While he does follow many of those rules, he does so by choice and doesn't need any kind of mental gymnastics to kill Wiel and it's entirely his own morality that has him make the final choice. One he built for himself from his years with X and others to guide him. It is very fitting that one of the only robots built to break the rules chooses to do so to save the world when any rule abiding reploid might have been trapped. Zero is the only robot who's acting entirely of his own will and making choices without any imposed influence (like the laws being hard programmed in or the maverick virus controlling them) and against his original creator's purpose (X was already intended to be the good boy by design).

      This is the way I've always felt about the scene and I wish I explained it better in the video because a lot of people thoguht I meant "Zero can only kill Weil with the law".

    • @sangdrako
      @sangdrako 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Though I do agree with a lot of it, there's one portion that I don't fully agree with "X was already intended to be the good boy by design." X turned into a force for good, not because it was pre-coded into him, but because he was taught it. X had to go into deep sleep where he spent a long time processing morality and that is what ultimately gave him the conscience to do good. Without this, he could just as easily turned bad [see Copy-X for such a scenario]. It is likely that X was not programmed with the laws of robotics to him; ultimately, other reploids have them because they were based on X's designs, but likely implemented older robot technology to be developed as hybrid /X+robots/. Because of that, I'd say that it was X & Zero's relations that ultimately led to them developing their sense of morality and, even, consciousness.

    • @TheEmperorGulcasa
      @TheEmperorGulcasa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@sangdrako I didn't say that X was hard programmed to be good or that he had the laws coded into him. What I meant was that the long processing period light used to instill in him a sense of morality already shoved him down the road of being a good and moral person. It was essentially the road already laid out for him by the design of Light. I do think that X, Zero and all reploids seem to have their own conscience and are making decisions for themselves at least usually (reploids maybe forced into actions sometimes by the laws for example). For example, Craft is bound by the laws but has his own will and morals and uses them to bend the laws to his own goals. To compare X, Zero and Reploids, it would be like this. Zero is like a kid born to a criminal family. He was taught evil as a child but got arrested, came out joined the police and turned himself around. X is like the kid who was raised by good moral parents and already was told what was right and his family and dad already guided him to being an upright police officer. He still has agency and choice and could go bad, but he had the upbringing and family that made being good the natural route. Then Reploids are like people drafted into the police. Like it or not they have to obey.

    • @MadnessHEROReverend
      @MadnessHEROReverend 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Not quite. Beginning with the X Series, the traditional Robot Masters of the classic series were replaced with the reploids. Based on X, who along with zero (both of which are not properly classified, both being more that just mere robots but also not Reploids), started as entirely free thinking, emotional machines that have no need to follow the Asimov laws. Cain reproduced those capabilities in a new series of machines he called reploids. However unlike Dr Light, he did not put his Creations through a rigorous testing phase to make sure they were mentally stable. Yes, this does mean that Dr Cain was a complete and total idiot.

    • @TheEmperorGulcasa
      @TheEmperorGulcasa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MadnessHEROReverend The Zero series at least seems to disagree with this idea. The reploids that are not maverick seem to be under some obligation to obey the laws otherwise Craft would not have had to do his mental gymnastics to fire ragnarok. Wiel's taunts also make no sense if Zero should not be assumed to be at least impeded in some way by an obligation not to hurt humans regardless of how correct a decision it is. Reploids going maverick is also typically due to something going wrong with their operation or infection rather than a free choice of their own. Otherwise the next gen reploids of X8 would not be noteworthy for their ability to freely become maverick.

    It's ironic that Wily, who was dead set on destroying or ruling the world instead saved it with his masterpiece. A robot that doesn't obey the rules of robotics was able to kill a human in order to do so. That said, he had so many robotic parts that it could be argued that he was no longer human.
    Zero also served his purpose as well since he was made to kill X. So that was some serious foreshadowing.

    Weil was an hypocrite and a egoist to the very end; he wanted robots to submit to humanity during the war, and did many evil things in order to fulfill that ideal, all of which he was severely punished for. Then, he wanted exact revenge on humanity for having punished him in the first place, thinking that all he did was for the best and that he wasn't wrong at all.

      @@Sukaiba69 Weil transcends Willy's madness with ease, specially since their ideals are opposite. Willy always wanted robots to be praised as heroes of humanity and the pillars that would rise humanity as a whole. Weil, on the other hand, found Reploids not only extremely dangerous (since they can always become criminals/mavericks by choice), but he also saw them only as tools for humans, second class citizens.
      Willy's final answer to prove his point on how robots could be heroes was Zero, a Robot Master capable of infinitelly evolving and that also works as protector of humanity by being the natural enemy of everything derived from Dr Light's technology. Did he predict everything? Most probably not, but he may have expected that just like at his present time, the future would use more of Dr Light's design over his, so Zero would always be the answer when a problem comes out of something from Dr Light.
      Now, Weil, his answer to the threat that free willed reploids represented was simply starting what would be the most violent conflict in all of human story, with 60% of human population ans 90% of reploid population being killed in the process in just the period of 4 years. Weil literally brought a apocalipse to the world and if it wasn't for Zero and X to put an end to this, the numbers would be higher.

    Quick couple things on zero 3. First, the Satalite elves, the ones you equip, DON'T effect your rank, you can use them without drawbacks. Second the cyberspace doors, those green doors, when entered activate pretty much all your cyberelves at once temporarily, without sacrificing them. This automatically applies the max cyber elf penalty to rank for that stage. And finally, as a random aside, the original zero 3 could connect with battle network 4 and had an exclusive z saber chip to trade to it. Doing so would change cyber space enemies into battle network enemies

      So I disagree with how I presented my point in the past year, but I don't entirely disagree with the points I was trying to make. I'm just gonna copy paste what I said to someone else:
      Zero himself never had to follow them. He often chose to as that's what was expected of him, which is part of why he didn't fight Weil in Zero 3. It's not that he ran numbers through his head preventing him from killing Weil, he just chose to adhere to it.
      Zero's use of the 0th law was more to justify his actions, rather than it being a program preventing him from killing Weil without it.
      Mega Man X as well is not programmed to adhere to the laws, but given how X is a good boy we can assume he'd never break the laws anyway.
      I should've explained my line of reasoning way better in the video but I was still pretty new with making this stuff.

    31:40 Actually the laws of robotics doesn't apply to Reploids since they are fully sentient beings and all that Maverick trouble began because some Reploids deliberately started to think themselves as superior to humans. The reason Weil states he is a human is because although Zero doesn't remember his past, he still has his moral compass and always fought to protect humanity and those who couldn't fight from harm. If Weil is a human, that means Zero would be harming a civilian, at least on theory.

The weapon leveling system is an ingame way of simulating Zero's memory being recovered by way of getting proficient with his weaponry over the course of battle, with it being gone by Zero 3 (and also the whole amnesia plot being dropped and Zero getting a bit more talkative) meaning we got our boi back fully.

    A underlying constant theme throughout the Megaman series is everyone’s consistent under-appreciation of the truly complex nature of sentience.
    As philosophers will tell you, existence is pain. Awareness is pain. Life is suffering, and fighting off suffering, including death, is what causes people to choose violence. Choosing otherwise requires wisdom, maturity, experience and empathy. Development of sentience and subsequent maturity takes decades, and that process is wrought with complex and painful emotions. Giving individuals significant power during this nascent time often tempts them to choose violence. You wouldn’t give a gun to a troubled teenager. This is why Light puts X into a 30 year test period, to properly develop his sentience and ensure the development of empathy, pacifism, and compassion without direct constraint from the Laws of Robotics. This is also why Rock and Roll started out as children after the loss of Protoman: time to learn and grow. Literally no other robot master or reploid throughout the entire series gets this. Humanity kept creating reploids with specialized powers and burdens them with huge responsibilities right from the get-go, providing them only with memories and information from other reploids, thinking that’s enough. The New Generation reploids from X8 and Copy X are all excellent examples of how immature reploids granted immense power from the start without time to have their own experiences will always choose violent actions as their solutions. They’re impatient. It’s not simply being infected with a virus that causes them to turn against humanity, it’s their vulnerability to the idea in the first place. The young and naive are always easy to radicalize.
    A good comparison would be Mewtwo from the first Pokemon movie, granted immense power at birth and immediately chose violence against everyone he met because his creators never taught him how to, or let him, process his sadness and anger after witnessing the death of Amber. The scientists only ever saw him as an experiment, not an intelligent sentient being with real emotions.
    If reploids were treated like actual sentient individuals that needed time to learn and grow, like human children, instead of given specialized abilities and immense powers from the get go, their world would have been a much more peaceful place.

      It's a bit more complicated than I had said it. Zero himself never had to follow them. He often chose to as that's what was expected of him, which is why he didn't fight Weil in Zero 3.

      I've found some more uses for it since the video. I still stand that it's the least useful secondary weapon between Zero 1-3.

    • @dogeyes9038
      @dogeyes9038 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The Triple Rod is a long range combo machine with plenty of utility simply because it can reach angles that the Z Saber never could. It is baffling that people think it is useless or bad at all. The extended hits can actually rack up damage on bosses since the invincibility frames it deals are extremely light. The charge attack can be combined with the initial Z Saber slashes in some cases to dish out a lot of damage very quickly. My favorite part is the aerial downward stab that allows you to bounce off enemies as if you were playing as Mario. It is certainly more of a precursor to the Recoil Rod than the Chain Rod, and I find the Triple Rod to be better than both the Chain Rod and the Zero Knuckle. Chain Rod is too clunky, weak and situational in its design in my opinion. It does not blend in with the high speed gameplay of the Zero games nearly as well as the Triple Rod.

    So I recently did grind out the Buster and Saber to max level in a fresh Z1 playthrough (which took literally two hours of farming a large group of enemies in the opening stage) and I find it kinda hilarious that I got enough E-crystals in the process to max out all the Elves in Z2 according to amount you stated but it wasn't even close to enough to do so in Z1. Man that was so poorly thought out in the first game. Even with all that farming out of the gate I still likely wouldn't have near enough to max out most of them in Z1 by the end without a lot more grinding. Z2 you could max out most of them by end game if you bothered to max out your weapons and that took way less grinding than Z1 to begin with.

Perhaps because it caters well to players who are more used to the X series, what with the 8-boss layout and being guaranteed a special technique by beating the 8 bosses (given the right weather condition). The crafting part doesn't bother me that much because I played X8 first.

Like, even if he's extreme, he's a byproduct of the fascist hellhole Neo Arcadia's become, and ultimately, his worst actions are motivated by guilt. He wants to make amends for that attack that got so many of his men killed and goes off the deep end as a consequence.

      I thought this over the past few days actually because I'm finally working on the ZX video.
      I do think the 0th law is important to this instance, but more important is close to your line of thinking. Reploids have never had to follow those rules. They think freely and have only chosen to do as such. Even if Zero has been labelled a Maverick, he's only ever done what's right. Which has more often than not been to not harm humans.
      Since Zero 3 stressed the laws of robotics I chose to explain Zero 4s plot through that lens, but there's definitely more to it than just that.

Or at least that's what Weil thought. He thought that if Zero knew he was a human, Zero wouldn't have what it takes to kill him, afterall a robot killing a human like that would be to betray everything they were trying to achieve for centuries... But Weil didn't expect Zero to actually do it, because killing him was the actual right thing to do.

      Every piece of first hand content I've engaged with implies or straight up says it's Zero's OG body/same one he used during the Elf Wars. So it's either an artistic/graphical limitation reason for the body looking different, or Weil made modifications to it.
      Wouldn't be the first time Zero's frame, as made by Dr. Wily, was modified. His X1 design is pretty different from his X2 onwards look, and that's still Zero's body.
