You’re a lifesaver, I’m pretty sure my tensioner pulley is bouncing around under my timing cover, thought it was rod knock but I need to rip the pulleys off and take a look at the timing with basic hand tools. Thanks !!

I learned yesterday there are 2 small holes one on each side of the bell housing about half way down you can put large screwdriver in to hold the engine from turning while removing subaru harmonic balancer from my 96 subaru with an automatic transmission......
@@yourghostisagift mine was a 96 subaru... had to really look but found the holes easily about 3/8 round... just slipped in the screwdriver while turning crank with 7/8 socket till they slipped into a notch... easy day... usually I had 5 speeds and never had problems getting harmonic balancer off

Not a great thing to do to your alternator, especially if it's been years since the factory torqued the bolt. Simpler to do a socket, breaker bar, pipe and starter bump.
The problem with your idea is most people have all the pulleys off the engine when it comes time to loosen the bolt...so theres nothing to put the belt on.
Yes. i had an old belt and i just used this video to get my crank bolt loose. the pulley is stuck but the trick worked with the alternator pully perfectly.

i must apologize this is a great method around the alternator and crank it reaches just fine. i broke the belt twice for someone has red loctited it
I tried this method but it destroyed my belt must have been on old belt that needed to be replaced anyway.
Cool I made my own tool for $15 just looks like a bought one but with a Square tube handle now I’ll hier it out to Subaru dudes
If the belt slips on the crank wrap it around the AC tensioner mounting point instead of the alternator pulley, if you have one.
The belt doesn't have enough slack to tuck if you put it on the ac clutch
