- Just a nifty trick I came across trying to remove a stubborn crankshaft pulley bolt on my Subaru Impreza WRX. The breaker bar couldn’t crack it, so tried this - 10 seconds later it’s done!
I heard of other “hacks” but this one appears the safest.

Well done mate
Yes! I've broken the damn pulley wrench, I could see this getting a nice grip on that pulley, exactly what needed, going to try this tonight.
Thank you very much mate.
Okay. Got my bolt out. Belt as a strap wrench works great. I found it safer to use the mounting point for the ac idler pulley bracket as the belt hook rather than the alternator
Neat trick. Used this technique this morning.
Work straight away! Amazing hack.
Best way to remove crank shaft pulley, on passenger side by firewall on the top of the engine there is a plastic cap, remove cap and you will have access to flywheel, wedge a big screw driver on one of the bolts holding the flywheel turn crank pulley until crank locks up. Same for install.
Awesome belt trick
I'm not willing to sacrifice my belt. Seems like it will cause wear and cracking later on in the pinch point. Otherwise with a sacrifice belt this might work!
Great video.. very helpful.. thanks mate!!;)
No worries mate, glad it could help someone! 🍻
Trying mine, but just keeps turning then belt let's go
Good way to damage the alternator and there’s also a chance of messing up the bushings in that damper
don't drive your car, it's a good way to wear out your engine
I started doing this and then realized the amt of force I was putting on alternator and it had t even broken loose yet so I am currently finding a new way to get this darn bolt loose.
The pulley is just sliding around the belt it won’t tighten to the belt
Yeah same I've seen it work a lot tho
Yea so does mine it just slips
@@michaelwalsh7847 i eventually got it , it slipped like 20 times , and after that 20 times you realize there is a point where it does start to bite right before it slips , when I finally got it it took way less effort than I thought it would so maybe just get it to that point where it starts to bite and really gently push it little by little. Might take a few timesn
@@lazurus222 naa I couldn’t get it at all so I welded up some steel and made my own tool that has 4 hi tensile bolts that hold the pulley and it was so hard to undo it but I got it and but my new pully on
Umm, that’s not removing the pulley
That’s just the bolt you dolt
