Just got a Mitsubishi 4M40 diesel engine up and running and right now we are flying blind with no data, and that really bothers me. I have seen the advantages of the iDash and trying to roll my own solution would be daunting. Already designed and built my own programmable glow plug controller and injection pump solenoid relay controls, that was months of research, design, digikey orders, soldering, testing, etc. Going to be taking a serious look at the iDash, just makes sense. Thanks!
Well I used a samd21 microcontroller to output a 3.3v signal to a Bosch NTC temp sensor. Based on the feedback from this sensor I determine the length of time to hold the glow plug relay output. Then once you hit the starter the glow plugs quickly reignite assisting in starting. Once the engine fires, the alternator puts out a 12v signal, at this point starts the afterglow sequence which checks for temperature (140*f), if less then, hold glow plug on until either 140*f OR 2 minutes, either condition over-rides the other. Sequence complete, the engine is running clean and kicking ass. Lightweight flywheel assists in quick revs, but suffers at idle. But who's hanging out at idle time! ;)
Yo Banks team! Love watching your videos, they're always so informative and entertaining at the same time, I've learned tons of new things that I would have never even thought of to fine tune engines and find bottlenecks in aftermarket parts. With that being said, I haven't seen any dyno tuners that take it to the depth you guys do, and as an owner of a Subaru STI with a picky EJ25, it's been on my list to find a tuner that has the ability to hammer out all the little details like you guys do to keep your builds reliable. Do you guys have any dyno tuning shops in mind anywhere in the US that take it to a similar level as your team, or is that stuff mainly reserved for just high end racing applications? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Wishing Gale good health and many more years to record his knowledge and pass the torch!
@daronlachinian1217 My car was tuned by Church Automotive in SoCal, his shop is very reputable amongst subaru enthusiasts. He does great work, but i'm trying to chase down somewhere that takes it to the next level like banks to scratch my engineering itch because I plan on getting it fully built nose to rear and daily it until the wheels fall off and I want to make sure everything is configured to be the most efficient and long-lasting. I definitely plan on going with the r5 or it's next iteration when I upgrade to a standalone :) thanks for the input!
Don't do crazy cams, try go twin scroll. Poly bush most of the car, build your heads and polish but don't go crazy porting and just monitor nock, of course oil cooler, high octane and water meth if you so chose, I also like that you can spray water onto your intercooler to cool it. Old Subaru hack
You can add a stand-alone MAF sensor to the iDash using a 5-channel Analog Sensor Module. This 5-Ch unit is our most versatile sensor module, offering 4 analog inputs plus one frequency input. You can connect any 0-5 volt sensor into the analog inputs. And, you can connect a variety of frequency sensors into the frequency input, like a Hall Effect Sensor, our Turbo Speed Sensor, or MAF sensor. Each channel can be configured to any parameter. After you've configured the input, you can name each input so they'll display your custom title on the iDash. bankspower.com/products/5-ch-analog-frequency-module-system-66554-idash-datamonster-supergauge
What does gale think of this, assuming you have good injector timing and sufficient rail pressure could you help a VGT turbo spool even faster by running your a/f ratio richer as the turbo is about to spool so there would be more air volume going into the turbo because the gas is hotter? I don't want antilag or black smoke. Just brief high egt to mitigate lag even with a VGT
Hey everyone at Banks! Wondering if you could do a video explaining the Audi R10 TDI racing engine in comparison to a more conventional Duramax or Cummins.
I want to see a “mythbusters” where you guys get doing everything you can to increase air density - like pouring liquid nitrogen on the charged air lines to super cool the air.
Love my iDash Data Monster, but wish you'd give me the means to view and record trans temps on the data logger side in my '22 Bronco. The vehicle already gives me a trans temp readout in the cluster, so I'd hope it wouldn't be too difficult to do...
Great video. I am interested in monitoring the bearing temperature for trailer wheels; trying to avoid overheating the bearing or trying to catch it before it completely fails and catches fire. Any thoughts?
@bankspower when can customers expect programmers, intakes, exhausts, and other performance increasing parts (i.e. towing, MGP, etc.) for the new LZO setup on the half ton trucks? Specifically, can we expect anything in FY24? Will there be any concerns with voiding the 100k warranty with any of these items? Also, can there be media content walking through this new engine discussing air intake, cooling, exhaust, and any applicable upgrades to the flow of fluids throughout the truck (i.e. coolant, oil, differentials, etc.)
Yes, iDash and the suite of sensors will absolutely work with your Magnusson supercharger. In fact, we just installed an iDash in a Jeep 3.6L with an Edelbrock supercharger. Very similar setup. This article will help with inspiration. You can purchase the sensors from the website or call our team at (800) 601-8072. official.bankspower.com/tech_article/whats-going-on-in-my-engine-and-how-do-i-know/
All these things the Idash does but it can’t give me the oil pressure on my 2023 6.7 high output diesel ? What the crap Banks ? WHY ? It’s a SUPER IMPORTANT measurement that we need. I have a dual Idash setup on my truck and was so let down it didn’t do oil pressure. What are you going to do about it ?
It can, does your truck not have a gauge? If your original truck had oil press/or not, you can install whatever you want. Drill holes, cut lines, etc. You can do whatever you want
I don’t think I am going to drill holes or cut lines on a brand new 102,000.00 dollar truck. The truck has an oil pressure gauge option from Ford on the dash but it simply shows a high, low, or normal range. There is no actual oil pressure number. The Banks idash does not have an option to see your exact oil pressure in real time. I have the dual gauge setup and it’s amazing but how in the world could they have left that out ?
@armedprophet3321 than don't blame iDash. Every sensor you saw in their product display had to be welded, cut, or spliced in. You can make the necessary adjustments but you are choosing not to and instead bash one of the best companies in our industry.
Could I use one of those sensors in place of an 02 sensor ? Because I’m not sure where I would put these sensors to measure stuff without the pre drilled holes for 02 sensors and stuff that comes on car
I love the idash and all the great information from Banks! I have installed one on my '06 LBZ Duramax. As I do more and more I will be able to see the results of the upgrades! The only issue I have is it is not reading the temp from the intake manifold sensor and the MAF air temp correctly. It is using the MAF temp for both! PLEASE HELP!
Let's ensure the iDash is set to the proper vehicle within the Settings menu. If after rebooting it doesn't display Trans Temp, shoot an email to socialmedia@bankspower.com and we'll help.
@@bankspower after a call to customer service and an update to the device. It never worked. One comment on the TH-cam page and now it is resolved. Thank you.
@@bankspower Thanks for the reply. That is one way to do it, but I would like to do it through the OBD2. All modern engines have an oil pressure sensor. It would be nice to be able to read oil pressure without extra sensors.
wish the iDash would work with my 02 dmax with six gun. not sure why I was told that, as nothing is using the obd port unless the tuner is missing something like a cable. the 6 levels work or at least "feel" like they work. think i am missing something on the air intake too
