  • Here's an in-depth review of the FPV Syma X5SW quadcopter which you can find HERE: goo.gl/Kddk6Y
    This is a great little quad copter for kids and adults alike to start in FPV. Fun stable and not to fast to really get in trouble with. I would highly recommend this for anyone who wants to get into quads and FPV. You really should learn on something like this first. Once your comfortable flying this for a while you should then move up to a larger more expensive quad and FPV systems.

      Yep, aside from the occasional control issue (seemingly from it's own FPV interference), it is still a good choice for a beginner to try FPV for how affordable it is.

    I saw some guy who put a piece of aluminium foil at the back of the quad so shielding the camera antenna from the transmiter of the quad.
    Some others,exchanged the antenna of the remote control instaling one used in a simple router.

    So this does not have altitude hold then, but in your vid, when you had the throttle stick in the middle, it stayed at altitude anyway, would you consider this to be about the same. Is the throttle stick spring loaded. I fly rc planes, so my nomenclature is based on that. But wanted to try these. The 5h has altitude hold, but for the same price, which do you think would be better. Also, the 5H batteries are different from the 5c and s models

    I believe this is less for fpv and more like seeing what you're shooting for taking photos.If you want to do proper fpv,the X5C 5.8g fpv kit from banggood is available and it even has selectable channels to run more than 1 of them at the same time.

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, 5.8ghz would be optimal for no frequency interference.

    I'm just about ready to buy this as my first drone. I've played a lot of drone simulators, and flew a small Litehawk..I'm looking for a drone with FPV, as I'm leaning more towards aerial video. It's between this and the X5C-1 The X5C-1 has a much better camera, and is a lot zippier, capable of flips even in low flight, but it doesn't have FPV..Anyway, would you recommend this drone? How high can it fly?

  • @wingmanalive
    @wingmanalive 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Been seeing a lot of people recommending to remove the landing gear and prop guards to save on weight. With a flight time of 5-7 minutes and these parts weighing GRAMS, any increase in flight time would be seconds at best, and that also depends on how it's flown, wind, ect. These same guys will also use larger batteries claiming to double flight times. Stop. I've done the same thing and found using 1200 mah batteries over the stock 500 mah batteries doesn't increase flight time that much because the drone has to carry a battery more than twice the weight it was designed for. This adds more stress to the motors and moving parts and accelerates deterioration of them. I owned 7 of these and have very extensive experience with them. These are toys so they should be treated as such. Great drone for the $$ no doubt but the camera is poor quality (In 2018's standards) and lags so you can't use it for FPV flight in most cases. All of my drones go about 75' in the air and lose signal and drop. Again they are backyard toys. They are fun indoors but because they are so light outdoor flight is a different animal. Even a 5 mph breeze will toss it like a piece of paper. In 2015 these were awesome but in 2018 they are what they are, a $35 drone. BUT, you can't beat the price on these today! I just bought three of these to donate to my local church's basket auction. Kids and grown ups alike would love these.

    So when you lose radio signal it goes into HTG (Hit The Ground) mode? Ha I have many quads that have this feature. Hey since the FPV cam is 2.4g is there any chance that this cam will connect to Fatshark goggles with 2.4 receiver such as my FS Attitudes?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +GeorgeBonez lol..yet HTG mode is in effect for all but the Alt Hold capable toy quads. With some you get the slower version of HTG mode..lol. Anyway, really not sure on the 2.4ghz but my guess is it won't work unless you have the correct receiver that can link via the same wifi frequency. Most VTX and VRX are analog and the wifi on these craft like the x5sw are using the same type of Wifi Digital as internet. worth a try though if you have a 2.4ghz vrx you could try.

    Very similar to X8c, Do you know if the legs will fit X5c1 or if X8 batt will fit X5SW? I had seen pics, but until watching this I just thought the SW only had the cam and the legs were different, now I see the battery bay is bigger as well. Thinking about adding the 5.8 upgrade to my X5c-1 or to a SW as the it looks like I could use a much bigger batt in the SW WYT?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The syma X8 is a much larger quad. Don't think anything would be cross compatible save the TX.... Oh I see you mean the x5c lol. Yes the lipo bay is a bit bigger. I honestly have not tried to cross fit between the 2 yet.

      @ericgtx2644 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dustin Dunnill Do note that the X8G is identical to the X8C aside from the colour and camera.Range is also identical at 400 meters.It could be affected due to the positioning of the antennas or camera noise,so it's best to check the antennas and do a range test with and without the camera.

  • @abriebosman7004

    Hi Dustin, I have a slight problem and I'd like it if you would help me. I want to buy my first drone, I have never had one so I need to make a careful decision. I'm deciding between Syma x5c, x5sc, x5sw, U818A and the JJRC H8D. From what I've seen I think the JJRC H8D is better than the other, although I feel it might be a bit expensive for me as a beginner, but I also feel that I may want something better as I will not be beginner forever. I'm also looking to get a better, slightly larger, camera so with that in mind what would you recommend?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would get the x5c or udi. Out of those. I have only tried the x5c from them but it is a great beginner. I would not worry about camera yet until you master flight. It is cheap and durable so you can train and crash. Then, I would buy another bigger one to hold better camera and maybe FPV.

    I have mine but I can't seem to get is to work with my phone and don't have the paper ether and I have been flying drones for 3 years, can I still make it work?

    Dustin, first let me apologize for asking an off topic question but I figured you were the guy who would know the answer but if you have the time to answer I appreciate it, if not, that's ok, time is valuable.
    I received very nice quadcopter but it only has the EU plug for the charger. It will take another 20 to 30 days to get the adapter so I thought perhaps I could cut the charger wire and install a wall plug that will work. My question is polarity, I have no idea which wire to hook up to each side of the plug. Does it matter? if so, is there a way to determine the correct way to install the plug? Once again my friend I appreciate if you can answer but understand if you don't, thanks.
    I was going to use the TB6B charger but the octopus doesn't have the right connector, I did send off for adapters but it will take three weeks to get here, just when the rainy season arrives. :(

      I'd be wary of modifying the wall plug unless your good with high voltage. I'd just order an adapter from eBay and I'm sure you could find one that will arrive in a few days if your in the US.

    Generally, I'm not a fan of wifi fpv. To much interaction, break up, and poor range ... not to mention LAG. However, for someone who just wants to putter around in the back yard, it could be an option. Tnx for your great review, as usual!

    • @DustinDunnill

      Might be defective unit if you tried binding as shown.

      when you turn on the drone and transmitter just move the left stick up and down to pair it

    I'm planning to buy this, I'm gonna get it without the camera and the fpv for $28 then get a small 1080p camera to record and a nanny can to see where it is and that should boost my quality and the price frlor all of those would out my total order at like $60

    Is there a reason why you switched phones?earlier you have a Nexus 6 and then when you were flying you had a htc. I have a Nexus 6 just wanted to know if it works fine with the nexus

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello fellow Nexusen..lol. Can't remember precisely but I think it was because the HTC M8 was more visible in the sun. Was not any functionality issues with Nexus 6.

      did your syma x5sw came already?

    • @TheSoulMan11
      @TheSoulMan11 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joshua Del Rosario I ended up returning it and buying the syma x5hw. only difference is, it has a barometer ( altitude hold) which does fairly well and the battery plug is different. if you're new, I would recommend the x5hw because it is very forgiving and the x5sw has no barometer.

      Same price, its the 2016 model and I think the x5sw is last years model. This is my first quad and I've ran into my house, trees, and the ground multiple times and it keeps flying intact and the blades have not broken once. It has fell out of sky about 2 times, one over a house the wind carried it and I found it upside down.
      they're 49-59 on amazon, minimum flight time of the 500 mah stock battery is 8 minutes and I had to velcro a 1200 battery on belly because it doesnt fit in combartment and I got 11 minutes minimum on it.

      It also flies 20% faster without prop guards lol, it made a huge difference when I started to pick it up.
