      Will this work in my cheerwing cw4? I was told I could use a SYMA X5C in this drone, and I think I killed the battery. It only lasts one minute.

    Hi, you made a nice video. From this article, www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2309651, the author said that if you didn't change the lead of your upgraded battery, it might damage the main board (at the very end of the article). Do you think you can do another video about this? Or put down more detail on how you did yours? Thx

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine worked fine without changing any polarity on battery connector. I did hear of some having had the polarity switched. I'm assuming it was just a manufacturing defect batch perhaps. To be safe you can check with a cheap mulimeter.

    How can the stock charger overcharge your batteries when the power comes from regulated USB or AC power? The stock chargers are not actually a charger, but are a connector. It's basically a straight wire and has no electronics other than a red LED to show when complete.

    @Josh Ya, not sure why I can't directly reply to your comments so hope you see this. With my experiences using this stock charger and others for cheaper r/c, the circuitry is of low quality and the stock battery built-in circuit board in conjunction with stock battery charger will not maintain battery very well and you'll end up killing your batteries (stock and upgraded) sooner than if you spent $30 on a decent smart charger which will make your battery's long term life longer. Just my experiences over the past years in the hobby. It also depends on production quality as well. There is probably a lot of defects produced that may contribute to this opinion.

    Does the X5C have "HEADLESS" mode along with "NORMAL" mode? If so what button do I press so as not to lose my copter due to directional confusion? If the X5C-1 is the one with HEADLESS mode, let me know! Thanks I am a 65 year old beginner...I don't play Nintendo games, can't walk and chew gum! Ha Ha!

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey digi, my version of the x5c-1 I got last Christmas did not. Although I think they are incorporating that feature in newly produced models. I would double check the product description at your vendor of choice to make sure.
      The x5c is really still one of the most if not the most stable flyers and great to learn on. Start in no wind if possible. Good luck!

    Hi Dustin, the search for "mini pico connector" didn't resolve any thing. However, I searched for "Hubsan X4 RC connector" and found lots of results. Here is the link for Amazon which will charge 6 batteries using the 7 pin balanced connector on the X-Charger unit. www.amazon.com/Balance-Charger-Walkera-Quadcopter-Control/dp/B00Q7IOWYE

    Nice vid thanks. I have a Skytech M68R that looks like an exact copy of the X5C. Only difference I know of is it has headless mode. Just wanted to say in your observations you talk about it dying quick when your low batt warning lights go off. I haven't flew mine a lot but it still has good power when blinking. I realize they are different name brands but they really appear to be exact clones, controller and all. Does yours die quick with the stock battery too?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. Yes, have 2 stock batteries and 1 upgraded battery and with all of them the lights start flashing just before it dies. Maybe it's just this model or the unit have.. not sure but doesn't seem very useful for the lights to flash right a few seconds before power loss. I just time the flights now.

    I just got my X5C-1 in the mail and its all set up but I cannot get the 2 to bind. The LEDS blink fast then slower but never go solid. The controller itself gives my beep going p and Beep going down but cannot get the copter to do anything...no response at all. Any Ideas?

    • @DustinDunnill

      Sounds like you got a defective pair which are not matched to each other. I've heard this happening before. All you can really do is contact the vendor you purchased from and work out a replacement.

    These batteries are the best. The stock battery is a joke. With the nano-tech 750mah batteries I can fly with a Mobius camera on my X5.
    They also make the X5 just fly better with or without the camera. Quicker response and lift.
    If you have an X5 you have to have these batteries.

    I have the x5c and im wondering if the jjrc h8c is any better at fighting wind than the x5c as its windy in the uk nearly all the time?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, yes the H8C has more power and has a better tilt angle (4 options 25% for slow flying and no wind then 50%, 75% and 100% is the most tilt which is much better than the x5c for wind.

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can open up the X5C to check if you have the longer antenna. If not you can improve range by soldering a 2.4ghz antenna in place of the short stub that some X5C come with. There are some vids on TH-cam. I may make one also showing how to do this.

      it should bind to quad when you power both on and push controller throttle all the way up then back down. Then you can fly. If not maybe you got defective transmitter. I would contact seller about it.

    By they way, the "performance" isnt affected by the battery upgrade, just the duration, they both deliver 3.7v at whatever current the speed controller will allow.
    Eg. 500mAh battery = 500 milli-amps for 1 hour,
    (or 1 milli-amp for 500 hours)
    A 750mAh battery is just a bigger "fuel tank" of the same 3.7 volts.

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      More "weight" will always effect "performance" of an aircraft. The larger lipo weighs more than stock.

    • @dratsab1980able
      @dratsab1980able 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, but just incase people were confusing output with capacity, and expecting an increase in rpm, speed or response,
      If its purely for filming instead of aerobatics, I reckon a beefier battery from a phone would provide the duration at the cost of agility, and the extra weight may make for a more stable camera platform?
      2650mAh from a 29g L-ion, think thats a 14g increase from the stock battery, with potentially 5 times the Watts.

    Do you get a battery low warning or something so you know to land you quad, or they just go down like struck flies? I found a X5C-1 on ebay for like 60$, and i'm thinking i'd like one as a first drone, but cheap usually means crap. Can you also replace the camera with something HD?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Radu Lupu Hey Radu, The version I have is the X5C-1 also. You get blinking lights when battery runs out of juice and it's time to land. You have to land immediately with the one I have because it will slowly drop not long after. Still the x5c1 is to this date the most stable of all the mini's I've flown and I've reviewed quite a bit plus have 3 more i'll be reviewing this week. For a beginner the x5c1 still takes the cake. I'm also reviewing the 1080p HD RunCam this week. Just strapped it to the bottom of the x5c1 and it handles it well. You will reduce airtime by a few minutes but it is capable of carrying it. I'll have a review and vids up this weekend. Hope this helps :)

    • @Yefatbastard
      @Yefatbastard 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Radu Lupu Have a look at Banggood dot com before you drop $60 on ebay.. And yes the X5C pretty much just drops like a rock when the battery gets low, yes the lights start flashing but it is already on it's way to the ground when they do.. I also fly fuel powered planes. So I'm used to using a timer to tell me when it's time to land. I set it to 7 minutes and then only fly around close till it drops.. Saves me a lot of walking.

    great video review. for the standard battery do you know what the connector type is? is it JST? You mentioned the 750 battery had a JST connection for charging but i am not sure what the connect type is that you plugged into the quad. Does that make sense?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Greetings, I have had a heck of a time locating the connector type for the "white" plug which is not JST. The Nano-tech has both types which is great however, I have 3 stock batteries with just the white connector. I have seen similar "white" ones which I believe are "balanced" since they have 3 terminals. My goal is to make a 4 or 6 parallel connector to charge multiple batteries at the same time.

    I've bought several 600mah batteries and I get about 11-12 minutes of flight time... So, why does your 750mah only gives 11 minutes?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure, how aggressive and how windy is it when you get those times? There are many factors involved.

    • @RodrigoGraca31

      Dustin Dunnill Moderated wind and outdoors... This are the batteries I'm talking: www.banggood.com/Syma-X5-16-X5C-3_7V-600MAH-Upgrade-Battery-Meal-p-941270.html

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks like times will vary. Could also be due to differences in C rating. Higher C rating can discharge faster giving quad more power (punch) but will deplete lipo faster.

      Hi Andre, its a micro losing / walkera. You'll have to solder your own adapter to a lead that will plug into charger or search and purchase one from eBay etc.

    I'm reading on the upgraded batteries the leads are backwards and need to be reversed before we use them. Did you have to do this or was everything correct for simple plug and play? Thanks for the help and review.

    • @jmjm003
      @jmjm003 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Polarity to be exact is what I'm talking about. Seems most people that are saying this seem to only have one connector on their battery unlike the one you show has two connectors. I believe they also came from hobbyking (?).
      I ordered the exact battery you have listed and just curious if you had to reverse the leads on the plug. Thanks again. I feel as if you would have explained this if you had to do so but I'm still asking.

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The one from the link I post did not have reversed polarity. I did check it with a volt meter just to be safe and it was correct out of the package. No switching necessary. you should definitely check just to be safe.

    I got a 6 pack of heiokey 720mah batteries and a 6 port charger for like less than 40$ on Amazon. If your really wanting to you can basically fly nonstop as long as you keep putting batteries on charger as soon as they cool off. Great little drone. Replacement parts kits for it are only 15-20$ with couple sets of blades, 4 motors, LED strips, blade guards, 4 gearboxes, and an entire empty shell. Yay!

    Question : Can we run this quad ( Syma X5C-1 ) for more than +30 minutes continuously ( 4X batteries ) without burning the motors ( motors become dead ) ?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tested running it more than around 12 minutes with an extended 750mah lipo so I couldn't say. But I would assume you would definitely shorten motor life as weight and longer runtime = more motors heat / sooner burnt motor brushes.

    • @PierreArbour
      @PierreArbour 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the rapid response. If i use the stock batteries X5 continuously ( without leaving the motors cool down ), will the motors burn ? I ask because my WLToys V686G burns the motors after 25 minutes flight time without cool down...

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh sorry to hear that Eduardo. the one you linked to is larger and the 350 (phantom) size. it should be able to handle wind a little better but its also heavier and could break or injure easier if crashed. if you think you had enough practice to have mastered control I would go for it. But if you still need practice get a smaller one. A good one to practice indoors with is
      m.gearbest.com/rc-quadcopters/pp_142612.html and use this coupon code to get a discount HBQ4
      I would keep it small and cheap until you learn to master flight really well before the bigger size.

      Hey Eduardo, good idea on the bnf version. Just maybe contact the seller and ask them to verify your version controller will work with the version you buy. The CX-20 is a great starter quad into the 350 size, It's a good one to learn on and you can modify and build it up a lot to be very capable and similar to the more expensive dji phantom. Here is the one I bought: goo.gl/kyB8k0 I'll be posting some review and mod vids on it soon..

    • @RichieMeeuwsen

      With a stripped down drone (no camera, guards) flown outside in average wind in mode 2 a different $7 battery will increase your flight time from 7 min 20 seconds to 11 1/2 minutes. Suggests a different battery charger to extend life of batteries. Soldered a different antenna to extend control from 150 up to 450 feet.

    Why don't you mod the battery to take two, even if it means removing the casing? Much better to have more time in the sky than nice casing. :p

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      2 batteries or maybe even a single larger battery. But you also have to keep in mind that more weight = more heat which is harder on the motors etc. Definitely possible though.

    • @vulcangbr6064
      @vulcangbr6064 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @drdarrow
    @drdarrow 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The mAh rating has little to do with voltage delivery, other than time. The mA is for milliamps and the h is for Hours. In simple terms, a 2500mAh 3.7V battery cannot deliver more than 3.7v, but it can deliver ≈ 3.7v longer than a 500mAh. You'd think it would mean 5x longer, but it's not. Always buy the proper voltage batteries that have the higher mAh number. The output longer before re-charging.

      Hi Noah, yes, you can charge it from the stock charger with white connector which is identical to stock battery connector. Although I would recommend getting a smart charger for best battery longevity and performance.

      @NoahWL1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dustin Dunnill Thanks, just wasn't sure since I've never dealt with this type of plug before. I'll definitely be getting a better charger soon, hopefully that will also eliminate the slow USB charging I have to deal with now :/

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right on. Remember it's not good to charge lipos too quickly. The rule of thumb is to only charge a lipo @ 1C unless the battery specifically says it can be charged at a higher rate. Example: If your charging a 500mah lipo, only charge it at .5 amps, 1000mah lipo only charge at 1 amp and so on. Doing this will extend life and help prevent any heating /shorts/fires.

  • @drdarrow
    @drdarrow 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Recommendation: at about 12:30 you're "droning on" (see what I did there?) at the BOTTOM of your vocal pitch range, so you have ZERO intonation or range available, especially downward. Being able to drop pitch (go lower) is as critical in communication as being able to go up. Down is common for ends of sentences, conclusions, etc. Up is good for expression, excitement, or at the end for questions or challenges. at 12:32 you suddenly go into a more expressive voice - and what you should notice about it is your AVERAGE pitch. THIS is where your natural voice is most comfortable whether or not you use it there. Speaking at the bottom can actually cause permanent damage to your vocal cords over time. The easiest way to find your natural pitch is to imagine raising your voice to get someone's attention, like, say, a child. You don't want to sound angry, but you want to sound firm. Imagine the expression "No. I'm going to give you tow three to stop that." You're not angry. But notice where your pitch is. This is a great place to use your voice for public speaking. Thanks for the helpful video-even 4 years later!

      sounds like some batches were reversed polarity. Best to check it before it's plugged in. Mine was correct but others have had your issue. I guess it's a manufacturing quality control over site.

    • @wheeler2662
      @wheeler2662 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      how would i check it? also when i plugged it into the standard charger it would blink red, indicating there was a very short connection, but the charge cannot be sustained. When i fidget the two together to force the charge, the charger overheated and gave off a plastic buring smell

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      sounds like you toasted your charger and or battery. Are you using stock charger to charge? If so you should not try and charge with stock charger as I've mentioned. get a smart charger, links in description. If you have a smart charger, it will notify you of connection break and or wrong polarity and won't allow a charge.

  • @Yefatbastard
    @Yefatbastard 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Dustin. If you open the quad and drill a hole in the top for the antenna to poke through it will help with the range too. Mine handles wind quite well.. And I mean a lot of wind. Bit on the tricky side to get it to come down tho because the wind adds lift to the rotors. I've had mine continue to clime even tho the throttle was at idle.

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yefatbastard Thans for the antenna tip. I may have to try that next. I have alot of strong win here in Hawaii also. It handles pretty good but it would be awesome if it had a third rate for more tilt in flight. Still a great quad and great to learn on and have fun with. I know what you mean about the wind lifting it. Sometimes I have to cut throttle entirely to bring it down from gusts. :)

    I notice the batteries from Samsung phones are the exact same power but are 2200Mah. They are double the weight of the originals but 4 times the juice. But they have 3 pad charging connector. They are 10 bucks a peice. I happen to have a few. I'm wondering if they can be used in the quad by soldering wires on the terminal pads and ignore the middle one. Then use a normal RC charger to charge them.
    I'm also looking in old cell phones to see if I can find a better camera that is easy to modify. I like your antenna mod. 23 bucks gets you a complete rebuild kit that includes a complete quad and x4 sets of props, accept the flight board and controller.

      Congrats. I think you will not be able to adjust any parameters (or use mission planner/tower) not sure about osd, telemetry and all that stuff but probably only standard FPV will work as I've heard.

    Hey, it doesn't seem like much, but I found that when I removed the lamp covers, I got a slight improvement on the flight characteristics. I know it sounds strange, but it actually helped it a bit.

      Makes sense. Reducing even a few grams of weight will make a difference. You probably also changed aerodynamics. Maybe better stopping and hard turning from concave holes where the light covers were.
