I have been dipping since March of 2013. I wanted to give you some pointers since that it was your first time. - Clean your project with Pre Dip Spray or use 50/50 of rubbing alcohol and water. Using just water isn't going to be good enough to clean. - When you're taping leave an inch or more. The closer the tape is the more chance the tape is going to take the dip off. Also having more pulling area to take the dip off around the project. - When you're starting to dip, start your layers off thin. Do the first 3 or so layers very thin. Build that base up. The more layers, the more protection, easier to peel. - Be 6 inches away from the project. If you spray too close, it's going to run or get bubbles(like you did). - You do not need to wait 30 minutes for the last coat. You can remove the tape while the dip is wet. If you do it while it's dry then you have a chance of lifting the dip from the tape. There is a lot of variables to when it comes to dip dry time because of air temp, humidity. I hope this helps you and others out to when it comes to your projects.
***** You're welcome. Once you get the process down, dipping becomes so much easier. Also dipping other things rather than just your car makes you more of a versatile dipper. It's a trial and error hobby. At least if you make an error then you can take it off and redo it. Happy Dipping!

Just a tip when getting the plasti dip from inside the letters,Just work the toothpick into the plasti dip and then twist. As the toothpick twists it pulls the plasti dip out perfect.Just my two cents.Great video!
It’s amazing how easy you made this look… I’m looking at my badges and thinking, “how tf do I tape off the letters so perfectly!? It gonna take forever!!”. But then here’s a video showing that intricate taping isn’t even necessary because plasti dip is so damn easy to use 🤯🤯🤯
If you want to do this, by all means do it!!! Very simple, easy, and cheap. I went to get a quote from a mechanic garage, and the guy said he would charge $150, and after watching these DIY vids, it was so easy. $6 at home depo and 50 mins is all you need:)
Pretty good video. Want to make a few notes to people out there doing this for the first time. Some pretty helpful tips: 1. Warm the cans up in some warm water for half an hour or so before you use them. 2. Do it on a good day. about 75F out or so. Don't do it in direct sun and when it's 95F out. 3. Clear the nozzle immediately after you are done. You're gonna lose some pressure from the can but what you will have if you don't is typically a clogged up nozzle that sprays splotchy. Turn the can directly upside down and spray til it clears. 4. Don't do it too far but not too close either. 4-6 inches is about where you want it. 5. There's corners you think you've covered but haven't. Definitely spraying from all angles. First attempt at dipping my grill, I didn't clear the nozzle. I was too far away (like 8 inches) and it was very hot and in the direct sunlight so it came out looking like crap. Basically a texture clump of rubbery pieces. No good. It holds up pretty nicely. I even hand washed over it without any issues. Just be careful not to scrub at it, or you may end up peeling it off. I plan on doing this to my rear badges soon along with using a sponge to paint the fronts white.
This just gave me a whole world of ideas . Plasti dip shoes, forks, spoons , plates, jewelry, etc. and if possible those hairless cats lol it's like you put spandex on them I'll have the most stylish cat on the block!
Quick tips for plastic dipping anything: after the first coat all coats should be wet, if they aren't they will leave texture. Warm up your cans if the spray seems globba. Smoothly move your can from side to side with complete length sprays. Don't stop or start in an area that isn't off the area being dipped. Lastly, when peeling be sure to peel away, not towards, the emblem or object. This will ensure that you don't damage the surface. The more coats you put, the longer it will last and the easier it will be to peel down the line. Sweet spot is around 5 to 6. Have fun! Good video for the basics :)
+Steve Vento if applied correctly plasti dip can have no texture. It can also be textured. It's all in how you coat it. People will go too thick and too thin. 1 50% coverage coats, 1 full coverage coat, and then 3 more fully wet coats will be smooth. If you want texture you can do 2 more light coats and allow them to dry. It's all in experimenting.
Again i'll repeat it cause some people keep saying it wont come off? That couldn't be more incorrect. Plasti-Dip is just that, spray on plastic coating, IT IS NOT PAINT. It will wear off after about 1-2 years depending on how delicate you wash your car. That being said it is totally worth it and a great product!!!
Just started plastic dipping my SUV emblem. It came out beautifully without any problem. This stuff is amazin and super easy to apply and peel off the excess dip once they're dried every 15 minute per coat. Seems like you spray it too close creating too much excess drip on yours. I spray from 6" to 8" and spray lightly back and forth that way it doesnt have excess coating drip and dries faster too when you apply light coat and not overspray it.
great video. I tried this on my new Tesla Model 3, and my results were......mixed. The front emblem came out perfect. The rear, a little sloppy. And I found that Plasti Dip works best on BIG letters and numbers; the smaller you go, the more problems you have.
Glad I saw this !!! I'm just about to do it to my Subaru, and I was going to remove the badges first and then dip them. Putting them back on would have been a nightmare !!! Never thought of just doing them in place. Thank You !!!!!!
Car badges ALWAYS have polish (not Polish 🤪) buildup that accumulates over many years. I suggest a car wash using the wand sprayer and concentrate spray on the letters before doing one of these projects. This may account for many of the complaints about shrinkage. Usually premature peeling of finished project is due to insufficient prep. Taking extra time preparing the surface is the most important and often overlooked aspect of this type project. Also, make SURE you mask off a LARGE area surrounding the project and NEVER spray in short close strokes. ALWAYS have the nozzle spraying before and after you pass the target area. ✋🏻
I have a suggestion for you for the q-tips. In the makeup section of Target or Walmart are the really great pointed q-tips women use sometimes to apply eye makeup so you can get hundreds of those for like $3. So you can spend your more money on your ride and less extra products for plasti-dip primers.
Thanks for the post. Try pulling the tape off immediately after spraying the final coat, while it’s still wet. With the solvent still leveling, the tape should pull away clean and fast without clinging to the dip. Cheers
Thank you for posting this! I've been thinking about doing this when I get a car and this is definitely the tutorial I'll use if I do it. 10/10 will recommend to my car enthusiast friends.
That’s awesome! This is the first time that I have seen this done. Why doesn’t it also come off of the letters? How well does it last through the weather and car washes and what not??
Been plasti Dippin for a few years now, this is NOT permanent and WILL wear off after you wash your 2-dozen times. DO NOT leave it on for months and months if you do NOT want your emblem black or colored. Plasti Dip will start to adhere to the actual plastic of the emblem itself and start cracking the outer coating of the emblem.
+Brandon Sooknanan You can just wash it like normal and it will be fine. I rub my wash mitt on the dip and it's still holding up great since this video.

there is a mistake that you make. you shouldn't remove the tape when the platidip is dry, you ned to remove it at the las coat of platidip while is wet
I'm glad I watched this so I would not mess up on that my first time. lol I think it turned out well for him considering it was his first time using it.
In this case it doesn't matter. But if you were painting something else where you don't want the dip to come off then yes you are suppose to remove the tape Before the dip gets dry
... ok . I did plasti dip on my 2017 wrx wrb . She’s so beautiful . Anyway . I did it myself . First time . I did about 5 or 7 layers . I taped it and used a huge husky garbage bag to cover to entire area to protect the car , Recently a few days ago I decided I would buy the matte black badges instead .So . I started to peal it away . Maybe as many layers as I did isn’t enough . It peeled off but under the emblems was so hard to get off . Between the badge and the paint . Had to use a pressure washer to help . Tweezers paper towels cloth . It’s a bitch to remove if you don’t do many many many layers . It looked good . I should have done more layers I think . His looks amazing and mind did too but I gota say . All in all . Make sure you do thick layers and many layers . Without orange peel of course
i dont believe so do a test with sum on a q tip,but acetone is clear coat safe I kno this for a fact, and if your emblems are in good shape no pealing id say its safe on them as well
TΞCHNO NIKO It's good man! I still need to make an update video on it which I will soon. Probably within the next 2-3 weeks. I've done some performance mods to it. Well, 2. Catless downpipe and custom e tune by Torqued Performance.
My neighbor paid a guy a bunch of money to plastidip his rims. First time he took it off road it all chipped and peeled. I suggest not PlastiDipping anything that is going to get beat up much from the road. Back end, doors, sure, but front bumper and stuff, probably going to get messed up
A buddy of mine did his truck's grille and after about two months the chrome was visible through multiple rock chips and tears in the Plastidip. If anything, it shows how much abuse the front of your vehicle endures with simple freeway driving. Plastidip is good stuff, but if you're going to use it on the front of your vehicle, I'd definitely suggest LOTS of coats.

Been thinking of blacking out the SILVERADO and LTZ badges on my truck for awhile, cost about 200$ for the blacked out online for 3 SILVERADO and LTZ badges but I might give this try though for cost wise though
there is a mistake that you make.
you shouldn't remove the tape when the platidip is dry, you ned to remove it at the las coat of platidip while is wet
truth
I'm glad I watched this so I would not mess up on that my first time. lol
I think it turned out well for him considering it was his first time using it.
In this case it doesn't matter. But if you were painting something else where you don't want the dip to come off then yes you are suppose to remove the tape Before the dip gets dry
Not really tho
If you wash the car, do you have to be extra careful around these badges?
Did Jake Gyllenhaal narrate this video?
I want to Plastidip my Emblem, but it's located directly above the back up camera. Who do i protect the back up camera? Would paper and tape work?
yes
Legit just cover it with anything.
Seriously ?
It looks great, man! I am most likely going to do all my badges black/red on my white xB1.
Definitely would not call peeling off plasti dip fun..
+Kyle Reese if you do it right its easy
if you put at least 5-6 coats it comes off mad easy yo 6 is the best when i dip my whole car i do 7 coats
Kyle Reese it is not fun at all
Done it on my 2015 WRX, awsome!
i actualy think u painted ur car i'm like dude wtf
Plasti. Thanks for the vid. Did the emblems on my 99 Silverado and it turned out great!
Or you could just take the badges off and then paint them.
Or you could just leave the badges on and use plasti dip
I know, right? Lol
For the tooth pick go in the letters while the dip us wet for a crisp finish comes out alot easier too
Does this devalue the car in anyway? Also is the Plastidip able to removed easily from the emblems if I dont want it anymore?
acetone eats it right up with a towel or peal up with your fingers
Linn Dubb Acetone wont damage the emblem in anyway?
i dont believe so do a test with sum on a q tip,but acetone is clear coat safe I kno this for a fact, and if your emblems are in good shape no pealing id say its safe on them as well
Student B,ever get told you look like Red Man??? holly cow!
Student B depends, and plasti dip just peels off easily
Liked just because you're a Ravens fan too!🙌🏻🇺🇸💜
PLASTI DIP IS NOT A MOD
+whyrobles You're right lmao. I was a noob back then
it is a mod, an aesthetic one, not a performance one
TΞCHNO NIKO Ehhh, I guess your right to be honest. Yeah def not a performance mod haha
***** how's the subi now?
TΞCHNO NIKO It's good man! I still need to make an update video on it which I will soon. Probably within the next 2-3 weeks. I've done some performance mods to it. Well, 2. Catless downpipe and custom e tune by Torqued Performance.
Put the can it self in a bucket of warm water. Because canned plasti dip is mixed and the spray spreads. But not a bad mod
how did does it hold up over time with sun and weather?
Sorry for the late reply but it's still holding up perfectly and looks exactly the same to this day.
Cool video... What happens when you wash the car? Does the plasti dip come off the badges?
+Taher Qubbaj once the paint is fully dry, it will only come off if you work at the edges of the paint
"my first time doing a plastidip"
Mate if it's your first time please don't title your video like a guide. You're recommendations don't mean a whole lot being this fresh man
No hate ik just not keen on misleading titles
whatagreatname aye wtf are you taking about? You don’t need experience to make a guide, he knows how to do it & just provided a video to help others... It worked well correct? Then clearly it is a good guide. 🤦♂️
Plastics !! Looks great and have made me rethink my opinion
Plasti
great video does it hold up to dirt / stone chips/ or car wash ?
im done doing this plasti dip sh*t. i bought my emblem on subispeed.
ok
lol
Why what happened??
Me too!
Awesome I'm probably gonna do my wife's Honda Accord looks clean bro good video on showing how too
+Carlos Torres No problem! You should definitely give it a try. It does look great and easily removable :)
plasti dip is not a mod....
Actually adds 20hp bro
Your not a real car person
it's modifying the color, thus, is a mod.
If you go to www.dipyourcar.com they have a release agent to use to aid in removal as well as a prep cleaner that helps with adhesion.
