What an amazing speech, loved the ending, "If you fall, fall forward." You utilized a great command of your stage, improvisational techniques, voice modulation (love the variations of how you said "ouch," even mouthing the word). I am a toastmaster (ACS, ALB), desire to keep on improving at public speaking to get the message across. You are a great model.
"go ahead and fall.....but fall forward..." excellent ! (standing ovation) in my opinion, the speaker took great risk to fall on the stage but he did it successfully not many speaker could do that way he did
Awesome! Thanks Darren! I speak tonight, and you have been huge in helping me. Also, I feel motivated to take that first step toward things that I keep making excuses not to. Blessings to you my friend
great techniques displayed here, the use of the lectern as the obstacle, actually falling on his face, showing how even when you fall on your face your still moving forward, great voice changes to add humour and engagement. So many things being utilized that have been Learned through experience and practice.
Wow. It's my "dream come true" you replying my comment. 😊 After joining toastmasters, it was the first speech I watched and I remember thinking I wanna become a speaker like him. Although that day is yet to come.
How to be funny: 1 - Pay attention to when they laugh and to what caused the laughter. 2 - Ask yourself why do they laugh at it? What makes it funny? Is it the word play, facial expression, intellectual play on ideas, etc. 3 - Now imagine yourself using it. 4 - Learn the art of public speaking. 5 - Combing the humor techniques you've learned in step 3 with step 4. 6 - Practice and customized as pleased. 7 - Pay attention to where you need improvements and actually take action to create the improvement.
Thank you, for I have fallen and never gave up and till standing. This is very inspiring. Keep doing what you are doing, the Lord is watching over you.
People that aren't in Toastmasters or don't understand what goes into making a speech like this don't see all the skillset that is demonstrated in this speech. 99.9999999% of the people in this world couldn't come close to this speech and the actual value is probably even closer to 100%.
how fun and informative! When you kept asking what is our next step forward I kept hearing this voice in my head saying, " Go to live in Paris for 3 months" I have no idea why, but this is the message I kept getting. Maybe it is time to just get up and do this since it is something I have been dreaming about for years :) Nice Speech Man!
Awesome!..a big THUMBS UP!..I as an aspiring speaker, hope to be like you in the NEAR FUTURE!..Wooh! your jokes hit me..not only it make my face stretch to make a Smile but it also stretches my Heart so wide!..Your Such an Inspiring Person to know and work with..(IN the NEAR FUTURE)!.. God Bless!^_^
This reminded me of Steve Jobs - When he was asked to leave (???) Apple, he fell forward and founded a new software company called "NEXT," the base language for most of today's computers graphical displays. A few years later he was back at Apple doing his genius stuff. Thanks! Phil Ponder, DTM
Whoohoo! Go Darren!!! Yes, the linking in the message is better. Apart from the extra coaching, was that possible because you didn't have the same time constraints as in the competition? I really like that I can now share the Ouch with a pile of ppl! Thanks for uploading it!
this is just an amazing speech with the full use of facial expression, body gesture and vocal variety. message very clear and inspiring with humor as the side dish. Great job ! (I am a toastmaster from HK btw !) HAVE FUN TM ing :D
I’m just really curiosa on if he wrote that out and memorized every work, or if he semi memorized every word and adapted his speech as he went. If he didn’t do the latter, how many times did it take him to practice his speech to memorize it that way? My issue is that when I outline speeches and present them organically, they come out amazing because I am naturally speaking to the audience. However, when I memorize speeches, it significantly impacts the quality of my work. Even if it is complex or simple information I am memorizing.
You're likely at the beginner level of speech craft. As you get better, your "acting" skills evolve too, to the point you're able to make a prepared speech come across as spontaneous and improvised. I know professional lawyers and negotiators who have mastered this skill in the court- and board-room. Hope this helps.
i persoanlly never memorize my speeches..i cud memorize quotes though & specfically whose quote it is...natural is powerful...having a sort of a format outline really helps though

This is cringeworthy, too over the top, not funny just plain goofy. Cheesy. Awful. I'd be willing to give a public speaker slack due to nerves, inexperience etc but this guy is supposed to be like some world renowned public speaker winning all these competitions, from this video I can't see why.
I agree with the boring part, but what does bald have to do with it? Gorbachev is bald and a great, brilliant statesman, who achieved more than you ever will. Hair has nothing to do with it. If you are that shallow and fooled by the cosmetic in life, you are lost and limited.
My goodness that was so amazing and so encouraging! That was definitely an award-winning speech!🎉🎉
Prayer and coaching made it work. Thank you Jesus.

in my opinion, the speaker took great risk to fall on the stage

Excellent use of of the podium.....as an obstacle! What a loaded comparison!

Great speech, highly inspirational talk with much humorous content. Take the next step and if we fall, we fall forward and still make progress
Touching of his speech.
Excellent!!! Don't pay attention to the negative comments. Haters do what they do best, (hate).
How to be funny:

99 percent would not want to. As a former army commander of troops, he looks like a buffoon to me.
It is great to see a master speaker in action! Simply loved it!

Your a great example thank you.
Simply love it :)
Got to see him in person. :D
very good motivation
Darren, you are very well poised. I live in Las Vegas and would like to meet you. Are you still there?
Loved it! So funny!
Liked the msg but specially the humour in your speech.... I find it a bit difficult to add humour... :)
The only word I can think of is 'wow!'
Pretty good my dear
Show us some proof of that competition you've entered.

@@StageTime thank you .
@@toyerdavids1993 You are welcome. The original Championship speech is on youtube too. Just search: Darren LaCroix Winning Speech
i didnt even smile
Cowboys coming in last in NFC East this year haha!
unnatural speech intonations; childish. comedians still are the best speakers
Edward Schneider Your point?
Edward Schneider It seemed inspiring to me
good speech, but the moves where too theatrical?
He is a comedian, not a speaker for U.N.

hes bald and boring. Build a company that's impressive. Can get talk drama from Osteen, TD Jakes, Hulk Hogan
