'If you are willing to fail you can learn anything'.Great message for life, for success, for learning, for earning and for victory. Thank you very much Sir.
Thanks for sharing this video, Darren :) 22 times at 22 different clubs!!! Wow, that's tremendous! "Great speeches aren't written. They're re-written." - Darren LaCroix
This speech is fantastic. I come back occasionally to study and get inspiration from LaCroix. Then I stumbled on these words today while reading a book on how to be funny: "....pitching forward on your face is not a bad thing, but a good thing. At least in falling forward, you're moving forward, and moving forward is all that really matters." --John Vorhaus, 1994 "The Comic Toolbox: How to be Funny Even if You're Not." Even if LaCroix didn't read or get inspiration from this book, I take this speech and his other videos as proof that hard work goes a long way. Even someone that confesses they don't have a history of being funny can make people genuinely laugh.
Hi Darren, I love the speech, I want to tell you that I was almost closing the video but when you fell down you kept my entire attention... you did something different... unique... that was a piece of art, that was what changed my action... You made me laugh so much I have to tell you that... I want to congratulate you and the job that you are doing ... and tell you that in that presentation every word was "a pearl" to consistently hold in our minds... never be scared taking the next step... It represent me a little bit... unfortunately I'm 17 years old and I'm so scared to take that step forward but I really don't know what to do... thank you so much for you speech it gave me some important motivation to take action
@@StageTime you’re most welcome. I was recommended to watch it by someone as I am competing in the National finals of a public speaking competition next month!
A wonderful and power packed speech..... I am a Toast Master for 8 years and I'm a member of Madras Management Association where you have planned to deliver a knowledge sharing speech. On 22nd May 2019 in Chennai .. Looking forward to meeting you, the Champion....
Phenomenal, awe inspiring, legendary speech! Funny, poignant, and inspirational ... but also lasts 7:41. With the new timing requirements, he would have been disqualified. Extremely thankful he gave this before the timing requirements changed, otherwise we may have never experienced such a gem! Thank you for sharing Darren, and for inspiring me to take the next step after the OUCH!
There was no change to the timing requirements back then. As Justin has correctly stated, there was a timing device malfunction and the rules allow a contestant an additional 30 seconds when that happens. To my knowledge, such a malfunction that has not happened since.
There was a comment that said this was too artificial and exaggerated and I do agree that some of the more recent tm champion speeches seem forced and over the top. But here I disagree. This was a great speech. It did have some theatrics and exaggeration but effectively utilised. It remained authentic and relatable throughout with great energy. Lots to learn here!
Hello Sir! I just won my Area Toastmasters competition, and am now preparing for the Division competition. My goal is to make it to the World Championship and, like you, win!

@@StageTime I am aware of the 7.30 seconds TM contest speech rule once the RED light is ON. No further warning is provided. So are you saying that the Red light never came ON, so you carried on for 8 minutes?

They actually mucked up Darren's timing through light faulting - he was given an extra 30 seconds.

Yes, and there was a timing light malfunction, so if you know your TM rules you know that gives the contestant 30 extra seconds.

Should we memorise speeches ?
it depends.. if u doing it for school yes.. if u are doing it on your own and want to truly live it.. no
You can memorise your speech but don't lose your natural flow.
a good speech, I just felt that It was overacting, and didn't feel natural. Also, he was shouting most of the speech, which is not comfortable.
