    So useful! I wish I'd found this video months ago. I'm doing this huge project(for me) which involves a lot of chapters. With everything filmed but the intro at the beginning , and for each chapter I've been procrastinating on it for ages..... As you said in the video , bursting straight in about yourself, who you are your name ..... i'm already bored just listening to it coming out of my own month! The trick is balancing a calming topic(my theme) without putting your audience asleep after 20 seconds... You are so good that you smile without it seeming a smile! it just flows.

    Exactly! Starting strong is everything in presentations. I remember my first time presenting-I spent the first few minutes rambling about myself and my excitement, totally losing the audience's attention.
    I’ve learned that a strong hook can make all the difference. Something vivid and intriguing grabs attention right away, just like a good crime show. Joining the Sense of Humor Improvement Program by Habit10x helped me refine my storytelling, making my introductions more engaging. It’s all about captivating your audience and giving them something to look forward to. Keep it sharp and make them lean in!

    This is amazing and it really helped me deliver my last value proposition. it does take some time to build a personal hook out of your own story and i loved to watch this video several times until i was able to write one for myself. I did great at the last presentation. While I am still trying to refine my story for a different meeting, I always come back and watch this video again and again ... and each time it gives me a great idea again. it's been a year since i had my last speech. my speech was about mental health and i connected your csi to the game " plants vs zombies" and amazingly, everyone listened to my speech. i was stuttering and making mistakes but everyone was still interested to me. if i had a chance to deliver again my piece, i'm sure i'll be more confident.

    • @lhctraining

      I love your success story, Jared. Many people assume public speaking is all charisma. What we have found (and what we coach clients on) is that public speaking is a skill set that can be learned and practice. With no doubt, if you did your "plants vs zombies" presentation again, you'd be more confident and capture everyone's attention. Build on your successes!

    • @lhctraining
      @lhctraining  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the best stories have many contrasting emotions: Frustration and relief. Funny and serious. Sad and happy. For example, finding out that your pet just died and then moments later your sister tells you she just got engaged.
      Here are some steps to create a great story:
      1) what’s your main message? For example, life is a series of ups and downs and it’s always a struggle
      2) how can you show your main message? Think of 1 or 2 events from your life that help contextualize this message.
      3) what’s the central conflict? What’s at stake? How did the experience change your thinking, behavior, action? What did that look like?
      Hope this helps! Find us at lhctraining.com if you’d like more help. And to answer your question directly, be both: serious and funny!
