Currently still having dreams about singing into that Atlantis 🤤🤤🤤

Appreciate you sharing your voice, my boy!!
It’s SO worth it
Even tho I have a “finished” home studio I still love watching your videos you’re an amazing creator and talented musician who knows exactly how to make content we all love! Keep it up
Wow, thank you so much for those kind words! I appreciate the encouragement! How long did it take you to finish your home studio?? (I am wondering myself when the obsession with adding to the studio will end haha!) Cheers!
My obsession hasn’t ended either I still love looking at new things but just have to convince myself I don’t need them
@@user-fn6wt5df2h I hear you! I’ve been trying to convince myself that I don’t need more outboard gear… it’s not going well 😂
It’s never finished 😂
Man what a voice. Good stuff. Both mics are great.
Great content Patrick!!! Random question...do you remember what verb you are using on this? It sounds great!!
love this comparison and the singer is great. the tlm 103 its a bash mic by people in the web but I do love mine and it works for me and love it here to. just me
Cracking demo bro
Why lauten is turning out be so smooth like butter in every video ..I am seeing 🤩✨👌
They make great microphones!
I have a U87 and just ordered the Atlantis this morning! I love my U87 but i think once i get this Atlantis hooked up it'll be my main go to mic in the studio 🎙
What’d you think about the mic? Trying to decide between the u87 or Atlantis right now
I have both. Both mics are great. I had the Tlm103 first and I saw a video of the Atlantis vs the u87i and decided to get it. It is smooth but something about the Tlm103 I love.
I have the 87 and the 103 isn’t as beefy in the mids and it sounds bigger not so compressed. Beefy isn’t always good trust me, unfortunately the 87 isn’t a good fit for my voice
What was the recording setup like the preamp used and audio interface 😮
The Atlantis sounds so good!!! Great name too 🔥🔥🔥 yo that song is so dope too!!
I'll never forget our faces when we switched over to the Atlantis for the first time 😂😂 It was crazy to hear how much better Chan sounded when he liked the way he was hearing himself. Such a fun and crazy experience! Love having you guys in the studio. Let's make that happen more often!
@@PatrickBreenMusic truly night and day difference IMO. January let’s make it happen 🙏🏼
@@TEEJmakesmusic can’t wait! NAMM ain’t ready 😂
Awesome video! Do you record the vocals straight into the box and put all the effects after or do you record together with some hardware like a vocal preamp or something?
Thanks my friend! I use a UAD LA610 channel strip, which (in case you’re unfamiliar) has a preamp, EQ and compressor. I like to get my vocals sounding close to “finished” on the way in. Then I use plugins for fine tuning the sound and adding effects.
For the mic tests/demos I put on TH-cam, I just “lightly” use the preamp for a little gain. No EQ, no compression. I want to keep the recorded mic sound as neutral and true to the mic as possible.
In the last section of the video, those effected vocals were done all in the box using plugins. Sound pretty good IMO!
@@PatrickBreenMusic Yeah I agree, sound good for sure!;) Keep up the good work!
Both absolutely great mics - cool song and singing!
Agreed! It was fun shootout to do and get to hear them side by side. Appreciate your comment, man!
Both sound amazing without any EQ - really impressive. Keep making awesome videos like this with awesome music in!!!
@@PatrickBreenMusic
Yeah, I agree man! Thats what I notice most about working with nicer mics like these - the vocal feels so close to finished right after recording. It's great! Well worth the "price of admission" lol. Appreciate your kind words, my friend! Means a lot. Have you had the chance to record with either of these microphones??@@Mikas_Emil
@@PatrickBreenMusic I've just gotten the TLM103 into my studio and just made some quick tests through my UAD 6176 preamp and compressor as well as directly into my audio interface. It´s very full sounding through the 610 especially and I can´t wait to sing into it very soon. On female singers I´ve had great results with Sennheiser MD441U but looking forward to trying the Neumann also. Probably needs et good deesser with that peak, but it also just sounds so finished with that beautiful top end.
On a side note; are you also in alot on the music writing, lyrics, chords, melodies etc? Would be great to see some videos on that proces as well. You showcase more than just great A/B here! :-)
NICE! Love to hear it. How do you like that 6176?? I have the LA 610 and love it. But always wanted the studio to have a 6176 too. Someday!
Yes, I do a little bit of everything. My roles vary from project to project - some projects I'm more on the production and mixing side and others I'm a part of just about every step of the process. Definitely has served me to "try on a lit of different hats."
I would definitely love to make more videos about the creative process! (It's my favorite thing to talk about, haha.) Anything in particular you'd like to see a video on?
Thanks for your comments brother. It's good to chat with you! @@Mikas_Emil
Atlantis is impressive, neutral and gentle sound really great, thinking about selling my AKG C414XLII to get it.
Both sounds fine on his voice. I would go with the Atlantis for the versatility and better handling of sibilance, but the Neumann is a lot easier to handle since it's a much smaller and lighter mic.
Thanks for your comment man!
The Atlantis! Smooth, airy, versatile! Wow!
Yeah man, love it!
Surprisingly tlm103 sounds better and sits better in the mix I really like the Atlantic but those Neumann mics have something special
Yes but no eq on it so u got more flavor to play with when u take that low end off
The Atlantis hands-down!
I own a TLM103 which I use for VO, and while I think the Atlantis definitely sounds smoother and arguably a touch more pleasant on its own, it doesn't cut through in the way the 103 does. This is important when a client might just drag and drop a recording into a music bed and the 103 would arguably sound "louder" even if it's not.
This is why the "in the mix" comparison is so useful. Thank you Patrick. This cemented my choice of the 103 as my choice for commercial voice over.
With that said, in the context of earning a commercial studio in which a lot of people come in, I'd probably want to get both, favouring the Atlantis. The TLM103 to say that "I have a Neumann" and use for grittier music or to have very in-your-face vocals (maybe hip hop), and the Atlantis to actually use for less dense mixes so its great sound can shine.
I sold my 103 for my Atlantis. You’re so right, the TLM CUTS! But my voice type already cuts so I wanted something bright but just SLIGHTLY less crunchy than the TLM. Love my Atlantis + the versatility it comes with.
Cheers
All great stuff Mark, thanks for sharing. Glad you love your Neumann and glad this video was helpful!
I think 103 is more butter but thinner and cuts
@@fernandoobregon3359what’s thinner and cuts mean ?
Atlantis….. wow!
What did you think was better,103 or Atlantis?
I am in love with the Atlantis it sit better ing the mix. The Tlm103 sound better alone but as we know the vocal can sound better alone but it how it sound in the mix that matters
Agree! Thanks for your comment!
The LA is impressive but it’s just something about Neumann mics. The control and detail in the mod and upper mid range is unmatched by mics in its class!
Neumann mics have a great sound for sure. I’ve had a TLM 102 for years, and even as an entry-level Neumann it sounds amazing.
I’ve really been loving this Atlantis. The mic sounds amazing on every voice I’ve put it in front of thus far. I can’t say that about very many microphones.
Thanks for you comment, my friend!
The TLM is nice but it doesn’t stop me wanting the LA!
Was waiting for your comment! haha! I'm still rooting for you to get your hands on an Atlantis bro. This was definitely a fun shootout. I do think the TLM 103 is a great mic for the price and a great option for people who can't spend much more than $1000 on a mic. If budget is a little more flexible, I do think the Atlantis offers so much more. The reaction of guys who were in the studio when we switched from the TLM to the Lauten Atlantis was awesome. Everyone was shocked but how much more clarity and smoothness the Atlantis has. Any exciting new gear in your life??
@@PatrickBreenMusiclol, glad I didn’t let you down :) maybe I should just save a little more money and buy this one, I doubt I’d regret it. I actually bought a second LA320 the other day. A friend needed some cash and had one for sale, so I bought it for $500 and let him keep it on the understanding that if I need it for a project I’d come grab it off him. He really didn’t want to sell it but was desperate for money and hey, we have all been there…
Also, just wanted to say that I think your production is next level. Everything I’ve heard of yours simply sounds beautiful! You have a very good ear my friend :) I’d love to see some vocal production videos from you.
@@officialWWM Hey, a stereo pair never hurt no body! Very much appreciate your kind words man. I produce for a handful of artists as well as for myself. So I get to work with some different types of vocals and that has definitely forced me to log some hours in the vocal mixing and production department. I'm still learning but I will definitely share some of my favorite plugins and vocal production tips! (I actually have a video planned for next month lol.) Stay tuned! Appreciate you brother!
@@PatrickBreenMusic awesome. Appreciate you too!
I have both. Atlantis usually wins.
It feels like the forwardness of c414 but the grit of 87.
Both sounds good, but the NEumann IMO wins been more detailed, lesh harsh and simply fitting better in the mix.
Thanks for your comment and for sharing your thoughts!
That’s wild. I had both and when I heard the Atlantis I sold the TLM103 so fast. It has a smaller sound and it’s more mid range. My voice has too much midrange already so it didn’t sound great to me.
@@jacksp8de Hey Jack! Love your channel, I've seen lot of your videos. I usually like more midrangy mics, you seem to like more bright-airy ones, guess it depends a lot of tastes and sources. Would love to see more of that LA-320 V2 from one of your last videos as IMO is a very well balanced combo.
@@Leo_Vulkan oh man thanks for watching! Yeah the voice matters too. I do like an airy type mic for me, but I also like the tf47 which has a smooth boosted midrange. What’s your favorite mic?
@@jacksp8de I'm a U47/U87 guy, although I also like 251 style mics. My wet dream is the Chandler TG mic which is IMO the best fusion of an U47 and a 251 ... but almost 6k€ here in Europe
Atlantis seemed more interesting, though maybe it's just a bias against the 103 since I don't like it) it's possible that on a blind test I could have chosen the 103 as well, LOL
Well, regardless of your bias, the Atlantis is definitely a great sounding mic, haha! Appreciate your comment and thoughts my friend!
I have the tlm103 I watch so many video I think it best we just stay with it till we can get the u87 I haven’t seen a video that convince me other wise every video seem like paid promo or just Tryna make a video not really a great shootout to convince me the tlm103 seem more detail and the Atlantic seem muffle
Do a shoot out with the tlm 49
If I can get my hands on one for a review, I absolutely will!
Second this
I think the atlantis neutral sounded best for this song and his voice. But the tlm103 was right there with it.
I think the TLM 103 sounds better. The top end is smooth in comparison to the FC-387 which in forward mode has always sounded very harsh to me. Not only in your video but in others as well. Sounds kind of peaky and uncontrolled in the treble region, especially when he gets louder. The Lauten mic sounds good in Neutral and Gentle, but not good in Forward mode which makes it not worth the money imo. I'll stick with my TLM 103 haha. Great vid man!
Thanks for your comment and kind words, my friend. I love getting different opinions and I'm so happy to see people as interested in comparing these two mics as I am. I think the Neumann is great and I'm pumped to hear you love yours. At the end of the day, you should stick with the gear that get you excited to make and record music. That's how I feel about my Atlantis. Every time I record with it, it feels like a special treat haha. How long have you had your 103??
@@PatrickBreenMusic Of course man! And yes definitely stick with the gear you love and know best! I've had mine for over a year now and I still love it. I often recommend the 103 to my students that are wanting to get into high end mics (I consider the 103 as beginner high end). And even if it ends up no longer being a go to vocal mic as they gain more experience with other mics, it is still a killer instrument mic to have in the locker!
I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum with you. The TLM 103 has always sounded bright and brittle to me whereas the Atlantis (and Lauten in general) are pretty smooth on top.
dude sings nice
103 is harsh when he starts to sing loud
TLM 103 sounds best to me
Lauten hands down! The 103 is almost harsh. The 387 is much thicker . The Lauten will take EQ much better than the 103.
TLM 103 all day.
The Atlantis FTW all day. The TLM103 can’t compete. It has an annoying midrange. My voice is already midrangey so for me it’s a no go. Even though I know T Pain uses it and it sounds good on his. I had it and done a shootout against the Atlantis and after that I sold the TLM103 so fast lol. I’ve also heard it against the U87 and I still prefer the Atlantis.
Appreciate your comment / opinion as always bro! I was torn between these two mics recently and am definitely happy I went the Lauten Audio route. Plus Ive gotten to know some of the team at Lauten Audio in the process and they're just so helpful and supportive. No shade to Neumann or the 103 - I'll always keep my 102 around and DEFINITELY still plan to own a U87 & U47 someday!
@@PatrickBreenMusic No problem. I’m basing it off my voice and taste so grain of salt ya know. I love the Atlantis and my other favorite mic, the Telefunken TF51.
I am going to rent a u87 and compare it the Atlantis. I’ve heard examples online but you never fully know unless you try and experiment.
Lauten Audio as a company is awesome. Trent is super cool. He sent me the LA320 to try. It’s a tube mic. I did a video using it 2 videos ago I think. You should check that one out. It’s underpriced at 700 but it’s pretty damn good.
My dream mic is the Eden which is basically an Atlantis with a tube. That and the Telefunken 251 just need to save up 10k lol
Yeah that 251 would niceeee to have. Used one once, life has never been the same haha! I'm gonna keep an eye for your U87 vs. Atlantis video. Excited to hear the difference!
@@PatrickBreenMusic Nice. I tried a Sony 800g once and life continued to be the same 😂 Wasn’t for me. You would love the TF51, same company similar parts inside.
@@jacksp8deSell Your Mic Collection It’ll Add Up To 10gs 🤣
The TLM103 sounds more quiet.. the Atlantis seems like I hear more metallic background noise.
