    Same here on the M201 Royer combo! One of the most versatile mic pairings for guitar amp! I love running mine through my UA 4-710 pres and blending tube and solid state. Seriously endless possibilities

      I'm saving up for a 201. I'm wondering if you have found any cheaper mics to pair with it that might get in the ballpark of the royer combination? Was thinking about a used 160 or even a cascade fathead or something. I don't know, on a budget as you can see.

    People don't talk about the TLM 67 because its 'ugly', so to speak. I own 2 U67's and have also owed a TLM 67 at one point, and its a great mic, honestly I 'might' like them better than the newer 67's (I absolutely prefer it to the 87). The two tone body color and that round Neumann badge (instead of the diamond) I think turns a lot of people off. If it came with the standard body as the U87/67/m269 people would be all over the TLM 67. Superficial as it is, people are like that. Neumann's marketing team should have known better.

    sE and Lauten are now my favorite brands. I have the Atlantis as well and honestly I don’t need any other mic for vocals. There’s a sound for any vocalist with it.

    Great collection. My only high-end mic is a TLM 67 I've had almost 15 years. It's my go-to for vocals and acoustic or classical guitar. I think you're right that it's underrated.

    I love the M201. To me it's the best "bang for buck" mic you can buy (at least here in germany, since we pay a little less for it) and you can use on almost anything, especially Snare, hi hats and electric and acoustic guitar.

  • @davidbadstubner4582

    Can’t wait to try the m201 with ribbon approach. I do absolutely love the m201 on Tom drums. It’s like a 421 on hifi steroids.
    Also gotta say I love the love given to Lauten Audio. I think they’re the most forward thinking mic manf. currently out there.
    For character and grimy grungy approach you should really check out the scope labs periscope. You’ll want two, I believe they’re Omni and they look super cool. They have a compression circuit built into the mic itself. It’s THE explosion drum room mic sound without needing to patch in a compressor.

    Why no Gefell or Earthworks :) two of the greatest…Can’t have too many mics! I agree on the Beta57. It’s just literally better in every way than the SM57. Thicker and more gutsy on snare with a nice snap that sets it apart from condenser overheads. Curious about the Lautens.

      I store all of my microphones in the bags, boxes, or cases they came with. A few mics that are almost always left out on stands have dust covers on them. With ribbon mics that have long non-rigid ribbons I store them in their cases standing vertical so the ribbon doesn't sag over time.

    Just curious if you've ever tried either the Townsend Labs Sphere l22 or the UA Sphere DLX since they acquired Townsend Labs? What's your take on those mics. I was considering that or the Lauten Atlantis.

    • @legacyShredder1
      @legacyShredder1 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're in a situation where you need 1 or 2 mics that will cover all of your recording needs the UA Sphere system is a fantastic option that will deliver a wide variety of sounds with a quality result. If you're like me and many others, we need a sizeable collection of mics just to capture large instruments, like drums, as well as entire bands at one time. In my case the UA Sphere would be an extra tool in the box, but it wouldn't make or break any sessions as I already have many of the key mics it's replicating and often times I have at least 2 of each. In needing a sizable collection, I already have many of the go-to options people might consider for their main vocal mic.

    SM7Bs are medeocre in my opinion. People can't hear past the hype, they're basically a fashion accessory. One must be seen with this mic on YT etc. and they're clumsy looking, which people cannot seem to stop playing with, adjusting. They're clealy poorly designed, a poor concept with that pigtail and all.
    My sonic problem is with this bass influence, it's muddy and sort of rough sounding, poor quality, unrefined. And people often have them set where it is completely oversaturated. There's a general obsession with bass for spoken word, which is annoying in itself.

    • @armandciabattari417
      @armandciabattari417 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am a network radio radio program producer. I have used the SM7b frequently for promos and other VOs. For my voice, I like the bass flat setting with the presence boost employed. If the mic distance is worked properly it sounds great. Depending upon how the voice track is used, like most mics, some post EQ in the DAW along with some processing gets the best out of this mic. For the record, I also use a TLM103, a Shure KSM32 and an MKH 416. The SM7b is in good company. All of these mics have unique sonic signatures. No one mic is best for all applications expect maybe the Lauten Atlantis , which I have yet to use.
