  • 2 years after buying my first new car, and about 1 year after my wife realized that she really liked it and decided to claim it as her own, I decided to buy her a Mirage of her own.
This Sweet little car is nearly the same as my 2018 mechanically with the few changes listed below:
5 speed stick instead of the CVT automatic
Crash mitigation hardware. The car can help you avoid front end crashes.
    Refreshed exterior and interior.
    Alpine Radio.
She LOVES it, and I get to have my first and only new car back. The both of these together cost about 2/3rd the price of an average new car. Think about that for a second and ask yourself. Is this car too cheap, or are most cars a total rip off?

They are starting in the 13k range now. Gas prices going up they are becoming more desirable. I pass a used car dealer every day that has a used 18 and its listed for $16,900!
I just bought a used 17 G4 sedan with the CVT last month and so far I'm loving the car. Just running back and forth to work and small trips from town to town I consistently average over 45mpg. Even seen as High as 51 one day when nobody was in any kind of particular hurry. Lol
Great little cars and definitely underrated by the majority of reviewers.

I have a 2017 G4 that i use as my daily commuter and i love it. Alot of car reviewers bash this car but miss the purpose of this car; Its not a sports car or luxury car, but a reliable and economical transportation that takes you from point A to point B and back. Nothing more, nothing less. Great Video! 👍

Another really nice video, thanks for posting! The one you did on your 2018 helped push me to get my 2019, and almost 2 years later I still enjoy driving it everyday (ES 5spd). I appreciate the fact it has great reliability, amazing fuel mileage for a non-hybrid and a fantastic warranty. It also doesn't hurt to have no car payments. And I'm with you on the crank windows, totally would have gotten those had it been offered!

Someday these cars will be off the market and folks will realize just how great they were. They are the modern Geo Metro, and like those cars, they are great at everything they set out to do.

Love my 2015 Mirage, six years of ownership, 100,000+ miles / 160,000km so far. Trouble free with no issues. So far, just a set of brakes and on my 3rd set of tires. I have the CVT so I’ve had the service done once and about ready to change the fluid & filters soon. Awesome little car, I’d buy another in a heartbeat.

I purchased a 2015 last October and so far it's been good to me.
How difficult was it to change the rear brakes? I can handle the front disc brakes but i hear the rear drum brakes can be a pain.
Would you suggest i stock up on an extra set of tires?

    • @endurorider9071
      @endurorider9071 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@davidricardo86 Generally the rear brakes on these are good for 100K miles plus. The front pads generally seem to last about 50-60k unless you're really mashing on the brakes alot. Yes, the rear drums can be a pain but most likely you don't need replacements unless your Mirage is over 100k.

    • @davidricardo86
      @davidricardo86 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@endurorider9071 good to hear!
I bought my Mirage with 75k miles on the odometer, I'm now at 85k. I occasionally hear a little bit of noise coming from the brakes. It's hard to tell if it's coming from the discs or the drums. It sounds like faint squealing or grinding. I don't think the brakes are worn out just yet because the noise isn't loud or alarming. I can hear it because I'm listening for it and I'm paying attention to it but I'd like to be prepared for when i have to replace the brakes.
Oh and i found a set of 4 tires on facebook I'm considering picking up for $150. Since tires are a wear item i figured it be good to get em cheap. What do you think?

Best car on the market today for non- sob people that understand what this car is about.5 speed is the way to go with less moving parts,no overheating auto trans issues.or power robbing cvt.cheap to own and easy to fix.The 3a92 block has been around since the 80's and the Mitsubishi engineers even improved the design by adding a timing chain instead of a timing belt.Love my 2020 5 speed mirage and watching your videos helped me decide to purchase this bullet proof car. Thanks,Aaron Patrick

An American woman driving a stickshift. Impressive. I have the 2015 model 1.2 CVT with all (then) available options. It is nice to see that Mirages in different countries are slightly different. We in Europe don't have the side blinkers. They are in the mirrors for example. There are more details different. There is start/stop and hill assist in the EU models. I have the same dark spot in the front window above the mirror. Here it is for automatic wipers (works very well).

My wife loves the stick shift, well maybe until a 10 mile long traffic jam. This car also has the hill assist mode. Some US cars do have the markers in the side mirrors as well.

Congrats! Arent the Mirages great! I owned a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage ES (top trim in 2014 and 2015 as base trim was DE) in Starlight Silver with CVT and Navigation and Back Up Camera Package. Then I also owned a 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE (top trim) in Wine Red with CVT. They were great cars. We now own two 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL Touring’s with S-AWC. We also owned a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport GT with AWC.
Several of my co workers have bought Mitsubishis over the years too and my friend and co worker is 79 years old and she got her first brand new 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage ES CVT in Infrared and with the Navigation and Back Up Camera Package in November 2014. She kept it 5.5 years and traded it in early 2020 on a brand new 2019 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE CVT in Sapphire Blue.
Plus several other co workers own Mitsubishis such as a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer, 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander, 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. Also my Dad just bought a new 2020 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SE with Panoramic Roof Package in Tarmac Black in March of 2021 and my brother got a used 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SE 2.4 in Quartz Brown in November 2020. So you can see we love Mitsubishi.
As we got them then friends, co workers and other family members bought them due to the value, warranty, reliability, discounts and just how happy we were with ours. Well they all love them too and will buy Mitsubishi again and again. I love our Eclipse Crosses I really do but I miss my Mirages and I am not opposed to buying another one and very well may. I would want the Yellow like this in the top SE Trim.
So happy for you and glad you see the value there cars present and how well the do what they are meant too. Everything is so simple and reliable.

My first car when I started driving back in the 80s was a 1977 Toyota Celica with a five speed. It probably had the same power to weight ratio as today's Mirage with a five speed. That car was fine. I bet the Mirage with the manual would probably perform just as well or better. Basically I wouldn't be afraid to live with it.

Sticker is higher than many actual sales for the Mirage. I live about a block and a half from the dealership here, and it's been common over the last few years to see them put up banners advertising the old stock (when they're getting the next model year in) for anywhere from $8K to $12K. Those falkens are a B B rating for traction and handling. The dunlop's are A B ratings. Both are similar in wear characteristics in testing at 320 and 340 respectively. On paper, Dunlop is better though it does growl on the road moreso. Dunlop is also WAY more expensive. If you have to replace these tires though, I recommend Vredstein is it is a all season, with 400 wear rating and tripple peak snow certification. We recently bought our 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage, and the only thing I think, outside of scuff plates, is sound dampening materials in the roof and floor.

These cars first hit my radar back in 2016 when I saw one at a grocery store. They are exactly what they come across as. Basic reliable transpiration that gets incredible gas mileage without excessive complexity.
I'm a mechanic by trade and long ago lost any interest in the latest or fastest cars. They bore me and frustrate me as they are often overpriced garbage that robs their owners of money over and over.
In 2017 I finally got one in the shop and was able to spend some time looking it over. What I found was a rock solid car, basic, robust, and ready to go 300K with no issues. In 2018 and again in 2021 I put my money where my mouth was and bought 2 of them! One for me and one for my wife. They have been exactly what I expected. Fun, roomy, great on gas, and reliable!
I care little what others think of my car, and prefer to look at the savings and smile while the 8MPG mega truck idles next to me in traffic.

I don't do a ton of highway driving, but I'm curious how it'd handle it and how it'd handle consistent inclines (I live in a hilly region).
What appeals to me about this vehicle are the initial purchase price, the fuel economy, the fact that a manual transmission is even an option and they're kinda quirky looking little cars but in a cute way.
Honesty fuel prices are going to continue to increase and SUV, Crossover and Truck owners are going to suffer.
Electric vehicles are then answer because they'll do to kw/hr rates whats happening to fuel prices right now.
I think we need a back-to-basics movement from auto companies that harks back to the econo-box cars of the 80's and early 90's

Undercoating is a rubberized paint that you can spray the underside of the car with to protect it from rust. I always do mine myself and have in fact just finished filming a video on how to do it. Stay tuned!

@@FarpointFarms thanks. How much does it cost to do at a shop?

It varies. Between$300 to $700 here. To do it yourself, about $100 and some time.

Good question. I think this looks and sounds better (no gaudy fender flares, 3cyl makes nice vroom). Which do you like more?

Both are fine If you get the Spark get the 1lt or higher trim.
