- What If Old School RuneScape Was From 2006? (OSRS)
The date of the backup version of RuneScape 2 that would later go on to be used to create Old School RuneScape. Ever since Old School RuneScape's creation we've had quite a few updates, some of which only made possible because of the backup. What if we went back in time and Jagex decided to make that backup a year earlier on August 10th, 2006.

I miss 2006 runescape, I remember all the old models and sounds. that game left such an impression on my 7 year old brain

Does Jagex just not believe in archiving your work outside of full backups? I don't imagine it would be out of the question to say "Hey before we make that massive change to that thing, let's hit the SAVE button in case this goes horribly wrong."
They should have stored it in like VCS/SCM
Even terrible software companies use version control software which does this automatically. In fact it saves EVERY code change ever done at every point in time. They have everything, I would put money on it. It's just text files.... Not like they bothered with the database hence why everyone had to start from scratch

04-08were definitely the best years for me on Runscape. As much as I miss the days of 30m+ dchains and 20m red phats...Runescape HD was definitely legit.
dungeoneering definitely ruined the game tho. Kinda wish HD was added to OSRS.

You forgot to mention Home Teleport which was released Sept 26th, 2006! I almost quit the game because I got locked inside Draynor Mansion and couldnt find my way out. Luckily the home teleport update came out so I used that to escape xD Edit: also, remember using home teleport every 30 mins then collecting your free mind and air runes from the mage tutor lol
I much prefer the 2006 versions of the songs vs the current. I was wondering what happened to them.
It's also worth noting that crossbows weren't added until 31 July 2006, so depending on when the 2006 backup was they might not have been in the game either.

Darkearth i dont remember hearing the 2007 version till like 2011 for some reason and only remember mostly hearing the 2006 version all the time
I love the way Varrock, Falador, Seers, and Rimmington looked in the 2004-2006 version. I wish they would bring that back.

My only gripe with Old School is the new lesser demon model vs the old Goat model, I much prefered the goat demon model

So glad it was a 07 backup, i mean i played back in 05 but 07 definitely had alot more content then 06
Dylan Bowen 06 was great, played it every day as a kid, the added content definitely has added to the game alot, plus everything that's in there already in 07 backup would've probably took away from the dev teams time to add what was already there back into the game, but then again we could've got new areas, depends how you look at. I think it turned out great, but it would be fun to think what could've came from an 06 backup. Could've been better or worse, who knows?

Dragonfire shield has been in the game since dragon slayer was released. They renamed it the anti dragon shield when the current dragonfire shield was released.

lets be honest, there was no "backup server" with everything saved, jagex was just forced to release osrs as part of a lawsuit settlement from that guy who ran that huge private server that was competing with runescape 3. he agreed to shut it down and not start it up again if they promised to release an old school version of the game. but they both signed non-discloser agreements meaning they could both never confirm or deny or talk about it.

I started in early 06 and a backup from that would be way more nostalgic for me. So I'm probably biased in liking it more

The town I live in has the initials RS so everytime we would talk about it in school people would think we were talking about school athletic events for RS haha

How did you know Sea Shanty 2 was my favourite song?! I was f2p for many years (my entire history in Runescape before OSRS) and I used to just walk to Port Sarim constantly to hear this song (without manually selecting it).

I'm new to your channel so idk if that's your character with the black pants and long sleeve shirt with white long hair but that's been my characters default clothing style since I started rs :p thought that was cool
I like the idea of 2006 backup best because I'm biased as hell, but I just know it wouldn't last long. Players nowadays want all of these bells and whistles added to the game, and thus it would no longer be the same game really.
2007scape/OSRS didn't last long either. It's already nothing like RS back in 2007.
Yep, 2013 was like the dark ages for OSRS. I remember the average player count tanking to only 8k players daily a handful of months after its release.
It's a good thing that osrs is being updated. id say current osrs is better then pre eoc in a lot of ways, and they are paying closer attention to the balance and longevity of the game.
Dylan Bowen yeah hopefully they put in something like rs3s death mechanics, not too punishing, but a giant gp sink. And you won't be punished for not being able to login for a few days after dying, for example if a hurricane knocks out your power or something like that.
No it's not like RS was back in 2007. Zeah made sure of that with its RS3-like art style. I don't want no updates at all, but I certainly want the people working on the updates to understand why people liked RS back in 2007 and I also want them to understand how to make new assets in the same art style as the old one so we don't get the embarrassment that is Zeah.

Absolutely! I think at one point RuneScape was considered the fastest updating MMO back when they did updates a couple times a week

I think your wrong about it would be hard to push godwars update. I have the files that I added the entire godwars dungeon and npcs along with items. All the post 2007/2006 updates are stored on private servers which can be access by moparscape or runeserver. It’s just copy and paste and adding files to the cache

I joined in 2006 but I would love the HD graphics option like that one client offered. The current character models are primitive by comparison.
