  • The Insane Prices RuneScape Items Went For From 2002 - 2006 (OSRS)
    Way way way back in 2013 Old School RuneScape was released, however at the time there was no Grand Exchange. So trying to find whatever item you wanted to buy was kind of a mess. Sure you could subject yourself to the hundreds of spam messages you’d see in Varrock or Falador but a little fan site called Zybez decided to instead create a market price database.

    So I messed up a bit on the RSC section. The prices for a few items were listed in certificate format. Certificates could be exchanged for 5 of that item. Luckily this only effects a few items.
    RSC Lobster = 300 gp each
    RSC Raw Shark = 1000 gp each
    RSC Yew logs = 600 gp each
    I'd go back and fix it but I'm about to hop on a flight. Sorry again about the mistake!

      Part of the reason runes dropped in price was when your inventory moved over from rsc to rs2, it doubled the amount of runes you had. So if say you had 1k mind runes in rsc, when your inventory moved over it doubled to 2k mind runes.

      I agree, dragon was unimaginable god tier gear back in the day. I kind of dislike the fact that they added a dragon full helm, because the med was simply the best dragon item. It was so unique and expressive with nods to the original gear design wise, and you had to hear about it from other players... If you clicked any skill the dragon items you could find wouldn't even show up. I really do wish it were the best gear in the game, but partially because I don't like the degradation factor of barrows.

    • @iownornot1

      @@leoisforevercool ur stuck in the past man, it's only nostalgia you're feeling. if dragon was bis these days the game would be so boring. we wouldn't have any of the bosses we have now becuase the armour would be to weak. unless dragon got a huge stat buff which i would be fine with cuz the armour does look cool(i love the dragon full helm and platebody, no other set makes you look more badass and powerfull) and i'd love to see a better use for it other than swagscape.

      @xgtky lm full rune was 200k between the years of 2004-2006, and in late 2006 is where it began to crash to 170-180k. No one ever used the rune full helm or shield, this was due to berserker helm and defenders being out so they would just buy top and legs at fally w2 slightly north-west of the bank, near the road to the centre. By the 2008-2010 Era, The Grand Exchange was already out and a surplus of rune made it crash to around 150k ish for a set. I started around 2004 and i remember vividly getting my first pair of rune armor with big bones, but the guy sold it to me for 215k cuz i offered him 50k of the cash in runes so he sorta taxed me. Big bones were 200 gp each back then and over time rose as high as 400 gp ea in 2005. Miss those days.

But it's crazy how much TT items were back in the day, and it's amazing to see then shooting back up with the recent influx of players.
    You should do a follow up vid on "rare" items if you can find much information. I remember the common spinach roll scam. But I've also heard that some other commonish items were considered rare. The black axe comes to mind as the only way to get it was by killing black demons and a friend gave me one saying it was like 40k, which was a lot to me back in the day.

    FYI: The rune set went up in price during the transition from classic to rs2 because kite shields suddenly became relevant when the r2h damage potential was surpassed by the scimitar because of changes in weapon attack rates. Prior to rs2, full rune was only the large helmet, platebody, and legs. Afterwards the kite shield was included in the set.

      yes but he didn't account for inflation either. Gold back then was much more scarce than it is in 2019 osrs. So much so that there was a minimum of 5 gold of osrs per 1 gold of Runescape 2005. So those 300 gp lobsters in todays market would really be 1500 gp each at the very least.

  • @simpleways2506
    @simpleways2506 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    gp was muuuch stronger back in 2005 then it is in 2019 on osrs. I swear, it is like a 5 to 1 gp difference, AT LEAST. So when lobsters were 300 back then (you read a cert that was 5), they were really what 1500 gp is today lol because you had to gather everything yourself and it was a lot harder. Never forget to mention how inflation has affected runescape throughout the years. That 20m whip in 2005, in reality, would of been over a 100m whip today at the very least, so you can see exactly how much work and value put into those items. I still remember my old gear from 2005, berserker helm + rune plate + d legs + rune boots and whip and xil shield or rune defender. Don't forget the glory and legends cape!! good times..

    I remember these days, I had a 60k cash stack, on a fresh made account, still learning the game, after selling off tons of cow hides, I wondered into Varrock from the south, after being attacked by wizards and almost dying, to see crowds of people spamming the chat, there I was trading with people with stacks of items and cash I never thought real, I thought bank notes were scams because I didn't know how to turn my new full adamant in bank notes, back to normal!, I eventually got full rune that same week because I was loving this new game so much, I was playing like a maniac all day and night, man that shit brings me back to some good times... I learned so much in this game about life and people.
    I lost 30k to scam when i first started, man good times... Learned how people worked real quick, learned about lures even quicker after getting scammed for that 30k, good life lesson.

    Bro those were the days. I miss going to the bank and trying to sell stuff. Or trying to buy low and sell high but in person and then you had nice people who would have you follow them to a person selling what you wanted/need. Those times were great and the community was nicer and conversations were easier to have

    My first whip was when it was at the 3.8m mark. Dragon legs were about 600-700k depending on seller, and also at the same time obsidian sets were out and going for 900-950k. Shield was 550kish with cape being around 350-400k. The only reason I remember is I bought all of them on the same day because someone died to a random event and dropped 17m cash stack.
    Normally people drop their coins from random events so I would always steal them in varrock/falador park. It was worth it

    i hate to be focusing on details but one of the reasons the whip value dropped so fast is that on release you used to be able to train strenght with it. hence the reason it was worth 20m+ back then.
    but soon after (dont know exact date) they nerfed it into the whip we know now thus making it crash to between 4-5m.
    Thats the moment i bought one back in the day :). thanks for making me relive that moment, loved the vid.

    • @DavidScorcelletti
      @DavidScorcelletti 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow didn't know that, they also got rid of its original spec, which was ridiculously overpowered. That probably contributed to the price drop too.

      There weren't that many people with 85 slayer for the first few months after the first persons started selling whips for whatever price they wanted, it stayed at 40m+ for a while and steadily dropped to 4m as more people had access to the drops and sold them. Don't think the price dropped at all after the initial change, whip was still the best weapon you could get.

    I remember getting my first D Chain in Summer of 2008 for around 10m-ish. I didn't have the skillset to easily rake in that much cash at the time and hated what the GE did to merching (I was a pretty frequent mercher of Death Runes on my previous acc) so I just grinded Flesh Crawlers for their herb drops every day. It felt like such a big accomplishment at the time and I proudly wore it over the Fighter Torso because old D Chain/pl8 is peak Fashionscape. It did have decent stats for a non degradable piece though.
    And yeah I def remember when things like the D Med were around 800k and legs were a couple mil. Memorizing street prices by heart would save your ass back then!

    I don’t know where you got those prices, but back in 2003-2005 from what I remember, d med helms were 800k, party hats were 200k, rune armor set was 200-400k, abyssal whip was around 10-20m, and santa hats ranged around 20-50m. Yo-yo was priceless, because it was untradable, but everyone wanted them so much they’d either hack the account or buy them.

    Supply and demand, as much as people hate bots they are essential for runescape to exist in its current form. People use so many resources to get 99s or for PVM and without bots the prices for the items would have to be way higher and the actual supply of these items would be extremely limited. Another thing to consider is inflation a GP is worth way less now so even though the prices on these objects seem lower their value is actually way lower due to inflation.
