Amusing seeing BZ call others 'normies', the irony being people who do actual work with fleets of servers look at the hobby as a 'normie' thing. Every 'normie' is someone's Alpha.

Everyone's asking about the Tomahawk coz it was the most popular board in the B450 series. Arguably the most selling board of that gen too. So people are basically expecting the new generation boards to follow suit. But the problem is that board sold for $110 and it performed pretty well for its price, while the b550/x570 tomahawks sell for close to $180/$220 and there are better boards at these price points even for Normies!...Get over tomahawk ffs!

I'll freely admit, the B450 Tomahawk (Max) was the first MSI board I ever bought partly because it was receiving such positive assessment. Until then I'd mostly used ASUS and Asrock, with a dribble of Gigabyte. I'd say MSI's B450 rep is well deserved, I was impressed. This doubtless leads to better consideration for that brand in the future, eg. I bought an MSI B450M Mortar Max for an HTPC build, but I doubt I would have done that if I'd never bought the B450 Tomahawk Max. I couldn't find an MSI board that matched my needs for a daily system though, opted for an Asrock X470 Taichi which I'd used before, while for a pro user friend I opted for an Asrock X570 Pro4.
Thus, rep can certainly make a difference, but often it's not the dominating factor for a final decision. Having said that, there are certainly those who stick to a brand and that's it. I can understand that, for a long time I used ASUS and Asrock boards, but in recent years I became less and less enamoured of ASUS, seemed like they were moving away from what once made their original Maximus Extreme series so good (such as the M4E). Asrock isn't immune to dumbassery though, such as the Taichi & Ultimate both having POST debug LED, but only the Ultimate has power/reset buttons even though both boards have the relevant contacts.

I can explain the Tomahawk need: We are sold on the marketing. I wanted a b450+3000 series combo in mATX.. I found out with extensive finding the Mortar max is my best bet (Even considered what i loose if i fill the Sata/m2/PCIe combos on several boards etc...), yet i managet to not get it. All the avaible b450 x470 era videos were about, "you not really need x470, b450 is enough", then we got the x570 MBs: "if you do not need PCIe 4.0, b450 is good enough... What is the best b450 allrounder on low enoug price, the Tomahawk, tomahawk, tomahawk, we heard it everywhere...
Now as the new stuff dropped, in bigger numbers, we expect, to have the old goodie, be still be the best goodie... and we remember names, not reasoning.
I watched all 3 videos from you now, but still the first thing what i would say for my needs "is a mortar", because i wanted a mortar, i wanted it for more than a year, but i heard it might not be the best for me in the actual minute only for 3-4 hours...
Normies and normie+-es are just work like this :)

I think what people need to remember is that first, Buildzoid looks at several points, and don’t look at other points.
For example, he ranks the boards based on feature sets that he is knowledgable about and cares about, such as the SATA ports, memory, VRM, connectivity, etc., and compares the boards in relations to the price point. He doesn’t really focus too much at things like audio, PCI-e lanes, M.2 slots, looks, fan and ARGB headers, for example.
So you have to understand what exactly he is recommending and what else you have to research on your own.
For example, if a certain boards go on sale and drops the price well below MRSP, then the ratings will change accordingly. Also, he wouldn’t care about the looks of the board, how many fan headers or ARGB headers the board has, where the headers are located for wire management, integrated I/O shield, structural reinforcements, etc.. Like he said, he doesn’t use a case, but a test bench, so his user experience is fundamentally different from the normie users.
So ask the right questions and don’t waste his time. I bought the X570 Tomahawk because it was on sale, and it was available, the Bios is nice, the looks is nice, and it fits my build. That’s all there is. If it didn’t go on sale, I’d buy the X570 TUF Pro or B550 Aorus Pro v2.

Europian countries like Greece, Portugal, Denmark, Finland and Estonia are members of the EU. While others like Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and UK aren't (well, UK is officially still only trying to escape...).
European countries like Spain, France and Italy have Euro (€) as their currency. While others like Norway, Sweden, Poland, Switzerland and UK don't. Neither of those groups have unified VAT, but country-specific. Also, as countries and economies, all of those countries mentioned are are very, very different from Albania.
For example, MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk WIFI seems to be ~220...230 € here in Finland (24% VAT included). You can get Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS for ~170 €, although normally it hovers around the same price. X570-PLUS (Wi-Fi) is ~30 € extra. Hi buildzoid, thanks for the video. Regarding people's fixation on the X570 Tomahawk, you should consider some things to better understand it: first of all, you praised it in your preview/PCB breakdown video of it and commented at the end that it could become your go-to board for overclocking or something to that effect. Secondly, many enthusiasts might be attracted to the smart power stages configuration compared to the similarly priced competitor boards because they like the assurance of having the most accurate VRM readings possible in HWiNFO64 when tuning their systems, be it all-core OC or PBO optimization. Thirdly, and you have touched on it a couple of times, it makes more sense for your EU-based viewers based on the price difference here.

@ I'm not sure if this is what Jon meant, but more importantly the price *ordering* of mbds can be different in other countries, eg. in BZ's Newegg list he shows the Asrock X570 Pro4 as being more expensive than the Steel Legend, but in the UK the Pro4 is typically 25 UKP cheaper (I know because I bought a Pro4). This means some of BZ's conclusions that are largely based on price differences are simply not valid in many other places.

This^. X570 Tomahawk is cheaper than Asus TUF Pro which BZ compared it to in the original video, in Europe. The 2 extra SATA ports and the fact that, IN THE US, the Tuf Pro was/is cheaper, was the reason he recomended it over the Tomahawk, he literally said that. If you don't care about the extra SATA ports, and you can find the Tomahawk for cheaper, it's obviously equally good. I think most folks stick to those guides a bit too much and cannot comprehend the fact that prices differ drastically sometimes in the US vs the EU.

    about the "Tomahawk" Questions :
Normal peoples decision process is asking someone THEY believe is "(more) competent" then they are what to get... same in every category
The b450 Tomahawk was a overhyped "bang for the buck" mainboard tip on nearly every print or gamers publication (I liked the Mortar max more).. .. naturally a lot of people have bought it, and if you bought something that works, you will recommend it (as you do not have 20 boards around).
So people ask THEIR trusted person that either has or read about the b450 Tomahawk, they will point them to MSI Tomahawk.... and as in every other category, people think "if the b450 was good, the b550 is probably too" (or even only remember the Tomahawk name)
Like the "are you glad with your purchase of a (insert car brand xy)"
.... as I was selling pc parts in retail 30 years ago, people literally came with "their neighbor" the guy that worked at some random place where something was built/worked on with electronics (even if they where dishwashers)

I think the thing with the Tomahawk is how poor the MSI X570 line was, especially considering how dominant they were with B450. The Tomahawk announcement was supposed to be their Q1-Q2 2020 redemption model and then covid just delayed it and it went from a product of interest to something many just forgot about or moved on from. It got coverage separate from all of the other x570s. Feel bad for MSI and several other companies with products slated for Q2 releases last year.

B550 tomahawk's PCIe lanes and M.2 Lanes will downgrade to x2, or even worse, be disabled when using the second M.2. Also, it has internally 1xUSB3.0 instead of 2 on the X570, and no type-c. That's worth the price difference for me ;-)

Just enough USB ports (Same view as yours currently using like 10 ports)
Wi-Fi (I know you don’t care but I use it every single day and expansion cards cost 30-40 bucks for a good one, I can forgo it if the board has m.2 E port because those cars are 20 bucks for Intel WiFi 6)
    BIOS FlashBack
    Great VRM
X570 chipset (know it doesn’t matter much but it feels bad paying 200 bucks for a B550)
    Great looks (Personal opinion)
    Good BIOS

On PCIe 4.0 SSDs: basically no modern controllers can really fully take advantage of the extra bandwidth of 4.0, in practice you are basically always flash or controller limited, not on the PCIe interface, especially since most realistic use cases are not entirely sequential but have some degree of random operation. So 4.0 drives offer no tangible benefit over good 3.0 drives in practice.

Hoping to find some knowledge here.
For AMD Ryzen 5 5600x & RTX 3070, what would be the sweet spot motherboard.
    thanks in advance

I wanted to ask this on the GN video but i forgot, how hard would it be to hit 4x8GB 3800Mhz-4000Mhz with low timings on most of these boards? (Specially with TUF Pro or Tomahawk). I am planning on getting a 5950x.

Would the x570 TUF Gaming Pro be comparable to the B550 Aorus Pro V2 for overclocking (CPU and RAM)?

    I bought the X570 Tomahawk as it's the cheapest X570 with USB-C & WIFI.
    That's it.

What it says on the tin: "Best All-round B550 boards; Best X570 boards; Best Micro-ATX boards; etc."
What we read: "Best All-round overclocking B550 boards; Best overclocking X570 boards; Best overclocking Micro-ATX boards; etc."
