  • Chad's been to Italy for a closer look at the Ducati MotoE bike, for 2023 Ducati will be the sole supplier and partner to the FIM MotoE series.
    We will hopefully be one of the first to ride the bike and it will be interesting to see what they can do with this technology.

    Its definitely the first bike that's come along that's made me sit up and take notice. I see a few comments about the noise, or lack thereof but I'm sure they can pipe in something to make it more interesting. A Taycan passed me the other day with a V8 rumble. Overall though, if this is the first serious salvo into performance biking imagine what things might be like in 5 - 10 - 15 years? Should be good.

    I live on the west coast in the county of Cumbria, during the IOM TT I can occasionally hear the racers screaming about the course(if weathers decent)simply by a couple mile trip on my MT-09. When E-bikes become the norm, guess who'll be sat home during the TT as I very much doubt these motors scream will carry the 35 miles across the sea.

    Was interested in the comments here - 90%+ negative is not a surprise from petrol-heads like us, but I think people maybe miss the point. Racing is about R&D - it's a platform (not a product) for development. Elec is coming whether we like it or not - so this is a way for Ducati to be on the cutting edge of that. They made their bones in racing, they see the writing on the wall and they are simply doing it again. Good management - just ask BlackBerry.

      @@teteakhiangte6015 Electric cars exist for more than a hundred years.
      Thousands drove on streets one hundred years ago.
      The problem is battery size, battery weight and low stored battery energy when applied to motorcycles. No electric car brand has solved these problems hence they all still need huge heavy batteries and the more kWh a battery needs (power and range) the bigger it get's, Tesla Plaid weighs over 2 metric tons and still handles bad on race tracks (hence the slow lap times for 1000hp). Sports motorcycles cannot afford to have even bigger batteries (the Ducati is 224kg with all that carbon, and Energica over 240kg), no rider would ride a 300kg more powerful more range EV sports motorcycle, cruisers maybe. Maybe in the future huge bikes like the Rocket 3 will have huge powerful long range batteries. In the meantime the LS 218 is still probably the fastest and quickest EV bike in a straight line but still bad in cornering compard to her ICE lightweight counterparts (M1000RR weighs 196kg and the Carbon ICE Superpleggera V4 weighs 159kg not the enormous 224kg like this Carbon EV Ducati.)

    Unfortunately the people reporting on this stuff don’t understand anything about the energy density issues associated with electric vehicles in general and motorcycles specifically. This thing costs a fortune, has the performance of a very heavy Panigale V2 but can on,y last 7 laps. I guess next year there is a good chance that the Ducati MotoE bikes will be faster than Moto3 which will be a step forward on the current bikes. Pirro says the motoE bike feels like a normal bike except for the noise but there is no way he can’t feel the extra 60kg plus of weight

      This take is ridiculous.
      Do you think the GP3 was anywhere close to the GP22’s level of sophistication? The GP22 is the result of 20 years of development at Ducati specifically, and over 100 years of ICE motorcycle development in general.
      Given the current capital investment in electric vehicles and the shift away from ICE, I’m pretty sure electric bikes will exceed the performance of current ICE motorcycles within the next 2 decades.
      With improved infrastructure and changes in use patterns, road going models don’t necessarily have to match the energy density of gasoline either.

    • @morri03
      @morri03 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chadwells7562 your confidence is not supported by the reality. a GP22 is faster than a GP22 primarily due to electronics, tyres and aero development. Remember a GP3 already made 250hp. You can clearly see why you are wrong just by looking at the new e Ducati. A 110kg battery (it’s fuel tank) can get it around for 7 laps much more slowly than 17.6kg of petrol can do a full race. Petrol has an energy density about 100x more than Lo-ion batteries which ends up being 25x once you factor in the greater efficiency of electric motors. There has been no significant improvement in the battery tech despite all the attention paid to it so a high performance racing motorcycle that is competitive with ICE is a pipe dream. Great for a little scooter to ride to work.

It's still a great bike and I am all for it, but don't assume it's faster than the current ice bikes. Also it can't do it for more than 7 laps, while a Panigale can do 20 or so and fuel up in about 30 seconds in a race environment. I think electric bikes are great for the road, but for racing they can't compete anywhere close apart from their separate series.

      @Blockbuster2033 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JoeAnton420 oh I do fully understand the difference. In fact, I'm an engineer myself. And to be honest, the performance doesn't really matter, as it is a spec race. They could weigh 300kg and have 60hp and it would still be competitive because they are all the same bikes in the series. But it makes little sense to compare the bikes at hand with a Panigale. And of course it's an early version and electric bikes are going to become better. I can't wait for that to happen. But I suppose that Ducati built something that was as performant as currently possible, and that's surely impressive, but we are used to such incredibly impressive machines already, so it's almost a bit underwhelming.

    With current battery technology, I honestly don't see the point in even trying. 7 laps of range at it's still 50kg heavier than a MotoGP bike. Lithium-ion just isn't ever going to compete with gasoline.

    When u run low fuel on a bike, you put more fuel and instant 100s miles. If u run out of E in an E bike, u have a dead weight. Literally, expensive dead weight. Many ppl have learned the hard way of buying an E vehicle for fast travel and racing. They get stuck and they can't move and have to call a tow truck ... sounds like the future of the Great Reset!

      have you seen all the restrictions happening to bikes? Euro 5 has almost killed the noise for street bikes already, yes you can get aftermarket exhausts but it doesnt help.
      noise is great, but they can only be so loud until its not enjoyable. plus have you heard some of these elctric cars/bikes, there are some that sound pretty awesome. lets face it, if sound is the essencial factor to enjoying a bike....youre not a biker. sound might be a part of it, but id rather have the thrill of actually riding it than sitting there listening to it. youll just have to stick to old clapped out retro bikes, with wooden brakes and rust. while everyone else is spanking it past you, having the time of their lifes on electric bikes.
      im glad to see this becoming into something, its going to finally start pushing the tech further.

      @Paul B funily enough they actually don't tend to catch on fire. Yes, there have been incidents with teslas and whatnot, but that's one in a million and a different company that is known for half-hearted engineering. I currently have four gas bikes in my garage directly under my kitchen and they contain about 60 liters of fuel combined, don't want that to catch on fire either. On top of that, I had an electric drill catch on fire while charging on a wooden cabinet and nearly burn my house down. I'd much rather have an expensive bike charge in my garage than a cheap drill.
