The battery energy density has to improve significantly for sport bikes to be weight competitive. Electric dirt bikes may be ready for prime time however as demonstrated by the Stark Varg.

I'm disappointed that the MotoE will still be a single make race. I believe that if Ducati, Triumph, and Engerica had to compete with each other it would spur some real innovation. It might even encourage other marquis to enter the fray.

With regards to the ranges of these vehicles, the current technology is just not there yet for my liking.
On the race track, perhaps they are considering ways to "quick disconnect" the entire battery pack to get both the machine and its pilot in the wind as swiftly as possible.
But, for the average person, who has the time to lay up somewhere for forty-five minutes or so until you can get moving forward again? And that's assuming that one did their due diligence as far as pre-planning out the trip's recharge locations so that you and your machine are NOT out stuck in the middle of nowhere without a reasonable way to recharge things.
When they've figured out a way to at the very least, get the equivalent ranges, if not more, than what the internal combustion engine can achieve while simultaneously working on bringing the coin costs of owning/maintaining these things down several notches, that'll be when I'll seriously entertain any possibilities.
They simply don't go far enough to justify the cost despite all of the cool/wow/bragging rights factors regarding torque ratings and track time trial records.

The future is coming, despite the issues you have just pointed out. The battery technology will only get better, with longer ranges and faster charging times. The charging infrastructure is being rapidly rolled out. In addition early technology is always expensive, but inevitably comes down in price over time. Plus the ban on the sale of internal combustion engine vehicle sales is coming fast. There will be less incentive to keep petrol stations open. Nothing will stop this inevitable change from coming. Kawasaki recognises this reality, and won't be selling any new petrol bikes into developed markets from 2035. A snapshot of the future, is the new Energica Experia, with a very impressive battery range.

Just over 1000 2170 cells in a carbon fiber stressed member pack, uses dual cooling loops, quick charge in 45mins or less 0-80% 800v.
Capacity is stated at 18kwh without saying if that's gross or net. Supposedly good for 8-12 laps at race pace. Hit 171mph in shakedown testing.

Given EU7 (2025/6) and the number of existing bikes that won't be compliant, Ducati and Triumph better hurry along with this EV technology. I understand Honda will drop the GoldWing in 2025 due to the cost of EU7 compliance and Harley and Indian may be completing missing in the EU.

    @panupongprasert4316 ปีที่แล้ว

They definitely not short on power ,but battery size that requires to have that decent power is big, heavy, and range+charge time is still pathetic all because battery density is still bad ,that mean it still worse on same job compared to gasoline and that was unfortunate.
Solid state battery are good step forward but it still not have close enough energy density to compete with hydrogen, this problem is okay for mediocre 4 wheeler but for big rig and big 2 wheeler this was still suck-lite issues.
Hydrogen fuel cell very efficient energy dense and have good fuel economy by nature but power to weight ratio is abysmal ,same reason why even with efficiency promises we don’t see any diesel motorcycle.
That left us with hydrogen combustion engine it make good power and light weight + have low emissions but it need to solve fuel consumption, lowering NOx emissions ,and reliability ,for bike hydrogen combustion is make more sense than you think.
Edit: ok ,it turns out Fuel Cell is better choice if you want to use hydrogen as fuel as it don’t require ridiculously large tank for same range as gas one as fuel cell are twice as efficient compared to ice but all of that hydrogen stuff will still have to face packaging problems and gaseous h2 is not much better than battery in both weight and energy so liquid h2 is better choice but you have to deal with boil off issues so solid state battery is still most promising option for near future despite it down side until hydrogen supply and storage issues can be solved in future.

If it's anything like Formula E it will be an utter bore fest. Granted bike racing tends to offer more position swapping action than open wheel car racing, but the specs hardly lend themselves towards the pinnacle of excitement. Heavy, underpowered and no noise. It's a beautiful looking machine, there's no doubting that, but we're looking at a power to weight ratio similar to many cafe racer / modern classic road bikes.
It will be the race series for riders unable to make it in MotoGP.

    • @kennethwilliams9924

Electric makes sense for most people’s use of vehicle...basically an appliance.....but.... 1) that’s not why people spend money on motorcycles, 2) the way we create/harness electricity isn’t good enough, 3) the way we store electricity is almost nonexistent, 4) none of the info structure is there.
