This a song from Motörhead, about the British Army in World War One, the Battle of the Somme. But in this Sabaton cover the soldiers from other wars and other countries are personages who appear in other Sabaton songs.
Songs from Sabaton you could react to next would be some of their greatest hits: to Hell and Back, the Last Stand, Primo Victoria, Ghost Division, Panzerkampf, Carolus Rex, Christmas Truce, the Unkillable Soldier, Stormtroopers, Fields of Verdun, Attack of the Dead Men. There are of course loads of more songs, but this would be a good start. I recommend starting with to Hell and Back as it is by far their most successful song and one that is very iconic and classy
You got to mention "Attero Dominatus", Royal Guard", "Panzer Batalion", "Carolus Rex", "Bismarck", "Red Baron".... Well, pretty much every song they made. And inform this guys about Sabaton history Chanel where they explains all the facts about the songs. Skärpning Alexander 😅😂
Sabaton Squad welcomes you to another great band! All Sabaton songs are true, historical, world military stories...you can learn more in depth info on The Sabaton History Channel! No glorifying of war...just telling the history. Most songs are anthemic! And they put out fantastic videos, including animated story videos...I recommend Night Witches, The Red Baron and No Bullets Fly. Reactor tip* Never ever cut or mute a credit reel! Bands and crews work hard, deserve respect and often, special music is created for these outtros.
"Saw the guy holding the picture of Lemmy from motorhead." You mean, Guitarist and drummer from Motorhead? Phil Campbell and Micky Dee! Also, this is a cover/tribute to Motorhead's 1916.
"The first rule of war is that young men die. The second is that nobody can change the first rule..." --Lt. Colonel Henry Blake, 4077th MASH RIP to those who did not grow old...
Something I find beautiful about this is that the two soldier who hold hands while they die are clearly from different times. One is a WW1 boy, the other looks like he's from Vietnam or Korea.
I had tears in my eyes...😢 Good homage to other soldiers dying face down in the mud as well as an *Homage to Motorhead* who recorded the song originally. Their videos are probably a better history lesson 📚 than what is taught in schools now! Sabaton is an absolutely fantastic band! Powerful song! Well done SABATON ❣️
This is one of the most amazing tributes I’ve heard. Sabaton is doing what they do best .. storytelling . They manage to tribute not only Motörhead and Lemmy but also almost all , if not all, soldiers they sung about ..ever. Breathtaking !!! .. I would not call them Symphonic, Anthemic is a better word, as stated in your reaction .. I think the closest to classic Symphonic they been is their blond guitarist (Tommy Johansson) symphonic metal cover of Green days “Basket case” 🤣 All suggestions for Sabayon songs in the comments are really good .. I would put them on a list to continuing further down the rabbit hole .. don’t now if it was mentioned by someone else but they do have their own history channel on YT😀
This is a cover of a Motörhead song, the two guys standing in the door opening at 7:38 are Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell, the drummer and the guitarist of Motörhead. The picture they are carrying is of Lemmy Kilmister the bassist and singer of Motörhead. The different soldiers in the video are nods to songs Sabaton has done in the past.
Loved your reaction, it's always fun to see people discover Sabaton for the first time. If you're a fan of this type of music and can get behind their historical storytelling of all sides, (without politics) I'd definitely appreciate if you'd react to more of their stuff. Subbed!
You need to check out a live performance from Sabaton. They have so much energy, they’re awesome! Had the privilege of seeing them when they opened for Nightwish back in 2015. That was an epic tour!!
Other songs I would recommend would be No Bullets Fly, Night Witches, and Lady Of The Dark, but watch the full animated videos it gives more context to the song. The haunting cello work at the end of the song was done by Tina Guo, who also did the cello work for Wonder Woman's theme song in the DC movies.
The two year line was about 16 year olds lying about their age and saying they were 18 in order to be able to enlist, it wasn’t about the physical toll of war (although that’s very true, especially the great wars)
Sabaton is a fantastic band that brings history to the front in all of their songs which are all about real events (usually military in theme). The band even has their own history channel on TH-cam where all of the background to each of their songs is discussed, and they have historians fact-check all of their lyrics etc. Just awesome. This song is a cover of a song originally performed by Motörhead (members of Motörhead are in the video). Other great Sabaton songs to check out are: Christmas Truce (one of their best IMO), Bismarck, Soldier of Heaven, and No Bullets Fly. Welcome to yet another rabbit-hole. Keep up the great reactions 😊🤘🇦🇺
They bring military history to life. Without taking sides. They are such great story tellers and well worth continuing to listen to. The one thing that needs to be remembered is you should always watch all the way to the end including the credits. It may have already been mentioned the drummer (tall blond with cap on backwards) is Hannis Van Dahl and is married to Floor Jansen of Nightwish.
Yoakim has one of the most distinctive voices in metal. Listening to Sabaton is like a history lesson every song all the songs being about different events in history. The Last Stand, Christmas Truce, A Race to the Sea, The Bismarck all fantastic songs❤❤
I really like this channel! Great job guys! When it comes to the next Sabaton song, just take a pick! They're all pretty damn good! All their songs are about war. Either a place,a person, a battle or the consequences of war.
Sabaton is such a great band, musically and as a heart-centered group. Check out some of their epic videos like, “Bismark” where they have actual (and CGI) battle ships go at it. So cool. Some other amazing songs they do, and with paired historial animation, is “Night Witches” and “Lady of the Dark.” I gotta do a shoutout for the warrior women 😉
Absolutely brilliant. A true masterpiece in every respect. Sabaton is much the same as Nightwish, in that they use brilliantly crafted music to tell the story and they are so damn good at it that it hits you hard every time. They paid great honor and homage to Motorhead and Lemmy Kilmister. And you have to look carefully, as there is an Easter egg and/or a tribute in almost every frame. Sabaton, like Nightwish transcends their genre. No one matches them for their story telling and the respect they show their subject matter. Every Sabaton piece is a history lesson. Indeed, lest we forget, as there are those who as we speak are trying to erase our history and separate us from our past, and to no good end. We cannot, must not allow that to happen. In an interview, Joakim was asked why Sabaton seems to focus on war and conflict. Joakim replied, "There are so many stories out there that are forgotten and do not deserve to. Why then should we make shit up?" Joakim has the right of it.
I mean the most natural video I would recomend, considering your comment about how they are paying "tribute" to not just one side, but all soldiers, would then be Christmas Truce. True story, ww1. Germans versus British and French, decide to on Christmas take a break. Play Football. Eat. Trade stuff. Bury the dead. That is the most epic true story about humans, and I wish it was more well known. Maybe it could make people understand that we are all essentially the same. We all want the same things. So why must we bleed. So please, do react to Sabaton - Christmas Truce. Their music video, because it is very gripping to watch.
@@PardonMyReaction I saw just after I wrote this xD Haha but thanks, and love the reactions, hope you keep them coming :)

We are proud of our Swedish history metal masters Sabaton as they teach all of us about historical events in war history. They write all songs based on historical war events without taking sides. You have lots to discover. Welcome to the Sabaton World. They also have their own history channel on TH-cam where they tell the history background about each song. They do a lot of research before they write a song.
They also have their own Sabaton history channel. Bismark is another great video, No bullets fly etc... all their videos are top-notch and historically, militarily accurate. Check them out. From an old retired Army dude. Enjoy. Ps. Floor Jansen of Nightwish is married to Sabaton's drummer Hannes Van Dahl
Swedish band. Floor Jansen's husband Hannes Van Dahl is their drummer. They have a patriotic song for every country they perform live. It is quite moving to experience. The lyrics talk about the boys who enlisted add 2 years to their age to be eligible to enlist and fight for the honor of their country.
In the song, they say that they added 2 years so that they could be recruited. This was a Motorhead cover. I recommend Bismark, No bullets fly, The winged hussars arrived, Carolus Rex and why not Live a en lifstid i krig in Swedish at Gothenburg. Sabaton also has a History channel that tells about their songs and what they are about.
The Battle of the Sommes purpose was 2 fold: First: Relieve pressure on the French at Verdun. That battle had been raging for 5 months by the time the Somme offensive kicked off. Second, the British wanted to take areas like Vimmy Ridge (iirc) and possibly bust through the German defensive lines. Obviously, they didnt break through and the Germans defensive depth was just too much to punch through.
Sabaton is a great band amazing music , Christmas Truce , No Bullets fly, night witches , Bismarck , are song great stories to learn about be a good starting point to react to.
History metal, a few good one are Lost Battalion, Winged Hussars (up beat song) and Nightwitches (animated Story Video). PTSD they sing about in To Hell And Back.
This is a Motorhead cover. Bismarck or The Last Stand would've probably been better starting points. Afterwards, Christmas Truce, No Bullets Fly animated story video, and Fields of Verdun.
That is his real voice, This is a tribute song to the original band Motorhead and to soldiers who fought in Wars, The lyrics we added 2 years to our age that's because they had to be 18 to sign up to enlist many where is as young as 16. Very sad.
Sabaton is a Swedish power metal band and it’s pronounced sa buh ton, after the piece of armour that protects the feet. I’d recommend the songs primo Victoria and Bismarck
Moving as this is, the original Motorhead version is much more gut wrenching hearing Lemmy sing it. He wrote it and sang it from the heart. It brings me to tears every time.
I hope you continue this journey down the Sabaton rabbit hole; my suggestions are To Hell and Back, Fields of Verdun, The Final Solution (Live Version)
"The last stand" is pretty neutral I think. "Devil dogs" is the song if you want positive upbeat. Dont get much happier than that. Not peak metal but it's a fun song.. :D
I love you guys - i visit your channel here and then and visited today again. Still only 13k Subs ?????????????? Men guys you do some really good reactions. You guys are in my opinion much btter than a reactor with 1 mill subs
Sabaton is power metal. They do exclusively military history from an unbiased pov with the caveat that they look out the eyes on the soldiers. Christmas Truce is their most know song, Bismark maybe second, then maybe Witch Witches and No Bullets Fly, and they just dropped this one. Their catalog is vast tho and people have literally passed history classes using their videos and accompanying history lessons on their history channel
My favorit songs from sabaton are ghost division, resist and bite, soldier of heavan and to hell and back. A reaction from one of that songs, would I prefer!
Alot of the people and things in this video are call backs to things from other Sabaton songs like Red Baron, To Hell and back, 82nd all the way, Night witches, Blood of Bannockburn, Hellfighters, No bullets fly, Carolus Rex, Sparta, Sarajevo and probably some others. Reacting to the songs referred to in this video would be a good start into the Sabaton rabbit hole.
As a Motörhead fan i was really reluctant to listen to this one at first because i was afraid Sabaton might mess things up for me. I Also am a huge Sabaton fan however but maybe i was afraid more for the emotions this would wake up and yeah i cried alot. Sabaton is an awesome warmetal band im amazed you havent heard em yet. If you are history buffs you would love Sabaton.
Sabaton are swedish Joakim are the lead singer in sabaton, but tommy johansson are multi instrument and can he sing play world class, hannes van dahl are marriage with nightwish singer floor jansen. Check out tommy Johnsson too. He come with a new cover every friday, his voice are out of this world. Huges Respect to the other band members Chris and Pär
Sabaton is the young soldier telling the story. The original motorhead song is Grandpa telling the story. And it shows how much history can be lost during the years.
The battle of the Somme was a massive critical failure militarily, the higher ups believed such a large push after nearly 10 days of constant artillery fire would cripple the enemy and end the conflict by the end of 1916. In order to increase the numbers as Sabaton said they promised friends and family to fight with each other, after the unimaginable loses this battle completely changed British military doctrine so now it is if possible, not allowed for family members to serve together, even counties are broken up to avoid such events again
This song is mainly referenced to the battle of the Somme in 1916. As someone else said many of these boys were 16 and lied when they signed up. So far the countries ive seen represented are Australia, America, Belgium, England, France, India, Sweeden, Nepal. Ancient Greece, Medieval Wngland and i Think Viking in there. Some have said the woman in the side street is Russian but I'm not convinced.
Sabaton does mostly songs about hystoric events or people and show the actions on both sides either good or bad and they have a history channel that discusses all their songs and the meaning.
Its even worse when you consider, after the Great War ended, many nations had difficulty trying to reintegrate the men back into normal home life (many wars afterwards would be the same, but WWI is most notable because it was a war where an entire generation felt as if the war really solved nothing). In Britain, alone, many of the men who served in the Infantry, and survived the war, could not find regular employment. So they reenlisted, many of them would end up being the "Black and Tans' that would fight the beginning of the "Troubles" that would start in 1919. Many of those men would, also, die from fighting the insurgency of the IRA. Had Britain tried to create employment programs and find jobs, outside of the Infantry, for those men, the Troubles would not have occurred and there might have been a more peaceful resolution to the question of Irish Independence. For many American Veterans of the War (who we call the "Silent Generation"), they noted that the American Public asked "all the wrong questions" about the war, and thus much was lost about the war, and their experiences, save the token stories (like Alvin York). The War to End All Wars is probably the most "forgotten war", right next to the Korean War.
they mentioned they added 2 years to their enlistment.... this was something quite usuall to people during ww1.... alot of people added a few years to their age so they could enlist... If I don´t remember the wrong thing... the youngest soldier was 14 years old... and the last soldier that died was 16 years old and died 11 minutes before the 11/11... was alot of 11 during that war -.-
They won six miles of ground over a four month period and suffered over 300,000 causlties only for the enemy force to take all that ground back in about a week.
You asked about a more upbeat song - No Bullets Fly th-cam.com/video/dslO-3GgenY/w-d-xo.html The story is amazing and the ending definitely upbeat. This is one of their animated music videos. They are high quality and not to be missed.
Interesting fact about the credits....all the portrayals were of actual people during not only WWI but the other conflicts represented by those marching along with the band. Examples are Sgt. York and Henry Johnson, both Medal of Honor Winners. The portrayal of Johnson is that of the black soldier in the French uniform as racism in the U.S. military was very prevalent and U.S. Black Soldiers were considered unfit and US troops would not fight in the trenches alongside them so Pershing "brigaded" the black units to the French.
It's about the Battle of the Somme, where on the first day our British Army had nearly 58,000 casualties both dead or severely wounded. The song is also about British Volunteers who were from Northern Towns and Cities here in England, who were civilians who joined up and worked in factories who knew each other, as work mates, neighbours and even male family members who joined together, fought together and died together either blown up into pieces or shot by machine guns. We here in the UK take this Battle very seriously as it was the worst combat loss of life in British Military history and is still taught in schools here in the UK today. The casualties included a 15 year old boy. The youngest killed British Hero during WW1 was a 14 year old boy who was serving on a Royal Navy Battleship. May all our British Heroes from WW1 to Present Day Rest in Peace. British Sabaton Fan 💂♂️💂♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🤝🤝🇸🇪🇸🇪
The line and we added two years to our ages means that they added this year's so that they can join the military because there is an minimum age you need to have to join
I recomend you to react to Sabaton live from concert in Gothenburg with the song En livstid I krig (chose one with english texting if you dont understand swedish). This is the most emotional Sabaton video I seen. Love it realy. I am swedish so maybe subjectiv but anyway it is more emotional when they sing in their own laguage about our own history but in an subject that is pretty universil about soldiers go out in war and who morn them? Who remember them? The titel En livstid i krig meaning A lifetime in war. They have made one english version of the song but the english and the swedish version have sligthly different meaning of the lyrics. The swedish one is more strong message. Please react to this one!
They not aged two years, they made themselfs two years older to be able to join the Army and become a war hero. Poor guys, they didn't know. The last wars were fought with muskets and cannons...
the line about adding two years to their ages isn't about them being aged from war, it's about them being only 16 when they signed up to fight and you had to be 18. so they lied

Hellfighters
Totally agree. This is a strange entry point for Sabaton. Great song, but starting with anything from Art of War would be great.
Certainly agree, Tina Guo or Floor do their bit to convey the video message and it's beautiful music in their own right.
"Saw the guy holding the picture of Lemmy from motorhead."
You mean, Guitarist and drummer from Motorhead?
Phil Campbell and Micky Dee!
Also, this is a cover/tribute to Motorhead's 1916.
"The first rule of war is that young men die. The second is that nobody can change the first rule..." --Lt. Colonel Henry Blake, 4077th MASH
RIP to those who did not grow old...
The drummer, Hannes van Dahl (the tall blond guy with the backwards cap) is the husband of Floor from Nightwish. Lucky bastard he is!
Something I find beautiful about this is that the two soldier who hold hands while they die are clearly from different times. One is a WW1 boy, the other looks like he's from Vietnam or Korea.
I had tears in my eyes...😢
Good homage to other soldiers dying face down in the mud as well as an
*Homage to Motorhead* who recorded the song originally.
Their videos are probably a better history lesson 📚 than what is taught in schools now!
Sabaton is an absolutely fantastic band!
Powerful song!
Well done SABATON ❣️
Sabayon are not merely great musicians, they are Bards in the truest sense.
I think the closest to classic Symphonic they been is their blond guitarist (Tommy Johansson) symphonic metal cover of Green days “Basket case” 🤣
All suggestions for Sabayon songs in the comments are really good .. I would put them on a list to continuing further down the rabbit hole .. don’t now if it was mentioned by someone else but they do have their own history channel on YT😀
Definitely explore Sabaton more! They have an extensive catalogue of high quality songs and music videos.
Forgot to add that they guy carrying the picture is Eddie Rocha, he was the tour manager of Motörhead and the current for Sabaton.
You definitely have to watch Sabaton's Christmas Truce!
Watch Christmas Truce for a great music video
Also Bismarck is great as music video
Rest i like the live performance best ❤
Bismarck, No Bullets Fly, and Christmas Truce are some must listen to's
I really like this channel! Great job guys! When it comes to the next Sabaton song, just take a pick! They're all pretty damn good! All their songs are about war. Either a place,a person, a battle or the consequences of war.
YOu missed the sign of the bus "Hammersmith". No Sleep 'til Hammersmith is the first live album by English rock band Motörhead
Sabaton is amazing! All there songs are basically a history class. The animated video fo "No Bullets Fly" still hits me in the feels every time
Good lads for keeping the credits rolling
Sabaton was described to me as "Valor Metal" and they take no sides and honor all heroic deeds no matter the flag those heroes bled and died under.
Just did that reaction! It was amazing
This is what I love about sabaton
Christmas Truce is a must with Sabaton. Also, Bismarck, Steel Commanders and Wolfpack. Enjoy
Sabaton is insanely catchy. Their Choruses are epic!
You really need to do Attack of the Dead army Men and Fields of Verdun next. You will really get Broden's incredible vocals.
Sabaton is a great band amazing music , Christmas Truce , No Bullets fly, night witches , Bismarck , are song great stories to learn about be a good starting point to react to.
Sabaton is my favorite band.
History metal, a few good one are Lost Battalion, Winged Hussars (up beat song) and Nightwitches (animated Story Video).
PTSD they sing about in To Hell And Back.
ok, starting Sabaton with a tribut-song, nice. (perhaps "to Hell and Back" as next
Do more .. greetings from NW-Army-Germany and sabatonfan etc..
This is a Motorhead cover. Bismarck or The Last Stand would've probably been better starting points. Afterwards, Christmas Truce, No Bullets Fly animated story video, and Fields of Verdun.
thanks for the info... didn't realize it was a cover.
Within their walk one of the guys has a big Motorhead flag…
@@andyohil7465 Surviving Motorhead are in the video including holding Lemmy's picture.
The drummer for Sabaton is floor Jansens from Nightwishs’ husband .
Welcome to the Sabaton rabbit hole.... They also have the Sabaton History channel that go into the events that their songs are based on.
For sure all songs are epic. This is only the second time I’ve heard them. Not bad. Makes me wanna drink some mead and walk through the woods.
Sabaton is all about paying tribute to warriors all over the world.
Any of the animated story videos are a great startet to Sabaton. They show the music as well as what they are about.
Thanks for your reaction! You've said you love Joakim's voice like a viking. I recommend you their song Swedish Pagans :-)
SABATON - To Hell And Back - th-cam.com/video/RhmHSAClG1c/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Sabaton
Love Sabaton and theirs song soldier of heaven
As a Motörhead fan i was really reluctant to listen to this one at first because i was afraid Sabaton might mess things up for me. I Also am a huge Sabaton fan however but maybe i was afraid more for the emotions this would wake up and yeah i cried alot. Sabaton is an awesome warmetal band im amazed you havent heard em yet. If you are history buffs you would love Sabaton.
7:44 that is Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister (Motörhead) picture carried by Motörhead's tour manager Eddie Rocha
For other really good songs i suggest either "Christmas Truce" or "Bismarck"
Sabaton is the word for the armor on the foot on a knights armour.
and yet we don't learn from history
Greetings from The Netherlands
Sabaton are swedish
Joakim are the lead singer in sabaton, but tommy johansson are multi instrument and can he sing play world class, hannes van dahl are marriage with nightwish singer floor jansen.
If you want upbeat from them then I'd suggest "Lady of the dark" I'd say it really shows off Joakim's vocals
The woman is most likely a reference to the Night Witches, a troupe of Russian female fighter pilots during WWII.
@@AO968 im not sure about that theres some detail in the video that make me thi k otherwise
it is. a voice analyst looked at it and his voice has a slight reverb underpinning it.
Sabaton does mostly songs about hystoric events or people and show the actions on both sides either good or bad and they have a history channel that discusses all their songs and the meaning.
This is a great Tribute to Lemmy
10+ albums of Sabatonic Metal to go. History taught with Metal.
To tie into this, Sabaton "The price of a mile"
Oh, I forgot, the original version with Lemmy singing these lyrics hits even more. Maybe check it out!
J. R. R. Tolkien was at the somme. He wrote that at the end of the first day all of his friends except for maybe one of them all were killed.
Sabaton sings songs about all soldiers, German. American, etc.
This is actually a Motorhead cover, hence the Motorhead references (the flag, cameo by Mikkey Dee and Phil Taylor, Lemmy's photo).
they mentioned they added 2 years to their enlistment.... this was something quite usuall to people during ww1.... alot of people added a few years to their age so they could enlist...
Up beat song you should check out is the lion from the north 🤘🤘😀 greeting from sweden
The 'we added two years to our ages' meant that they lied about their age so they could participate in war even they were too young.
Bismarck video, Carolus rex English video, 40:1 live Woodstock, Ghost division Woodstock, Primo Victoria Hellgate London video.
