I got a lot of people I consider family and family that has been in the military and some of passed on, so this one is pretty hard to listen to. I love the song and the cover, but it is not a song I can actively listen to. Soldiers of this world are the real heroes.

My grandmother on my moms side lived throw 2 world wars.
Remember when we had a political discussion over a huge family dinner about the EU ( EG back then ). The normal political slander was going on, like politicians just talk and don’t understand etc. It was really heated.
Then she rose her voice just saying “Quite”
The look on my moms and her siblings was like a bunch of school kids about getting there’s buts handled to them.
      It went dead quite
      Then she spoke just this
“When THEY ( meaning the politicians) stop talking we are the ones paying the price. So let them talk”

It is a heart pulling song but I think that’s what makes it so beautiful, it makes you remember the lives lost. it adds the humanity back to the soldiers. Crying for your mother to save you I know everyone felt that feeling.

This version of the song is powerful as hell. My Grandfather joined WW2 at 15. He was a big 6 foot tall farmboy. When his mother took him to the recruiters office, they asked him his age. He told them... the recruiter told him to go walk around the block and come back with the right answer... He did that. Ended up on the shores of Omaha beach. He came home after the war a broken man and never was the same. War is hell... it touches everyone.

Similar story to my great grandfather in the first 15 years old went to the recruiting station with his brothers how old are you son 19 right sign here
He went to the station a few days later and his father gave the older lads some money shook them by the hand and said I’ll see you when you get back
As he did that he turned to his father and said dad I’ve signed up as well his father handed him half a crown and said well son of your old enough to lie your old enough to fight for your country I’ll see you when you get back
The 2 youngest survived but his eldest brother was killed in 1915 after only a couple of months in France shot through the spine invalided back home in a wheelchair and died of infection

There's a ton of references to other Sabaton songs in the video too.
There's two guys dressed as the 101st from Screaming Eagles, two ancient Greek guys from Sparta, the lady in the alley is Night Witches and possibly the Lady of The Dark (since she comes out of the dark), the car they walk past is from Sarajevo, the Black soldier is from Hellfighters, the guy on horseback is Robert the Bruce from Blood of Bannockburn. At 1:40 the guy has a Smoking Snakes patch on his arm, then the two biplanes and the bomber at the end are The Red Baron and No Bullets Fly respectively.
The costumes worn by the drummer and Tommy are from the Royal guard and a couple of soldiers are referred to as "Sgt York" and "Lt Murphy" which are mostly likely Alvin York from 82nd all the way and Adie Murphy from To hell and back.
Finally the bus at the very beginning is a Motörhead reference, as "No sleep till Hammersmith" is the album that made them famous.
(Apologies for the huge text wall 😅)

Thanks for pointing out those references, as I missed most of them lol. Also, some fun facts about Motorhead: No Sleep refers to their prodigious intake of speed at the time. Also, their dealer was none other than one John Lydon, or Johnny Rotten of the S*x Pistols.

I was at the Accept/Sabaton show in Seattle in 2011. There was a fellow there who was actually IN the 101st. Daniel Myhr came out at some point and was chilling with us out in the lineup and just shooting the shit, and this 101st guy asks if they're going to do Screaming Eagles. Dan tells him that they weren't going to, but he seizes on the opportunity to do something special and runs in to convince the guys to change the set list to include it. They DO end up including it.
      i.imgur.com/UzJ8NMN.jpg
This picture is of the guy and his flag, that's Daniel on the left there, and during the performance of Screaming Eagles he hands the flag up to Joakim who waves the hell out of it up there. Fantastic show, I remember it quite fondly.

i agree. i'm autistic so it's VERY hard to make me cry, and even when you/something DO/DOES manage to make cry it's usually only for a minute or two. even when i was there in person to see my granpa die, i only got misty eyed. but despite all that even i get a tightness in my chest whenever i listen to this. it's one thing to listen to an emotional song, it's another to put context and faces to it. it just hits you like a punch in the face.

This song just hit in ways i'm glad it did, but also in ways that absolutely tear me up inside.

(Heard in another Reaction video) The promise to be able to fight alongside your friends, neighbours, relatives and workmates was used by the recruiters in England as an argument to sign up. It made it even worse and more heartbreaking for those who did sign up, because when they came down to Somme they would see their friends, neighbours, relatives and workmates getting shot and killed, or those people would see you getting shot and killed.

My family has a lot of Scottish heritage that comes from a family that left Scotland after the First World War and moved to the United States. The reason for this was that in the village they were from, out of every ten men they sent to fight in WW 1, eight were ether killed or wounded or went missing. The Battle of the Somme broke that village. It also broke that family's trust in the British government.

Another good book; "Covenant With Death". (John Harris) Characters are fictitious but it deals with the real consequences of forming Pals Battalions. The soldier pulling himself out of the mud, at first I thought he was a member of "The Smoking Snakes" (Força Expedicionária Brasileira, FEB, nicknamed Cobras Fumantes), but doing some more research with the patch on his shoulder as well as his helmet, that's Sgt Henry Johnson of the 15th New York National Guard Regiment, aka "The Harlem Hellfighters". Medal of Honor recipient and recipient of French Croix de Guerre avec Palme, France's highest award for valor. The Medal of Honor was awarded to him in 2015.
Sgt. Henry Johnson is "one of the five bravest American soldiers in the war."
Theodore Roosevelt Jr. in his book "Rank and File: True Stories of the Great War"
The Asian soldier with the cocked-hat, that's a Nepalese Gurka named Havildar Gurung (per the credits) who earn the Victoria Cross in the Burma campaign off WWII. Sgt Awal Nur, who took part in a secret mission over the Himalayas, Lt. Audie Murphy the highest decorated soldier in US history who served in WWII. Sgt. Alvin York a humble man from Tennesse who was awarded the Medal of Honor in WWI for exceptional bravery under fire, just to name a few.
I also notice a soldier with the Croix Lorraine on what looks like a French flag arm band, meaning he was a member of the 'Forces françaises libres' forces in WWII.
Doing some reading I found out that a large number of French colonial troops from territories such as Chad and Senegal had joined with the 'Forces françaises libres'. Damn, Sabaton REALLY does their research! I suspect that soldier is Lt Comba, but I can't find anything on him.
ATS Ivy Valentine is coming up on a dead end, I found that the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) was the British version of the American WAC's, but I cannot find anything about her name.
As I've been working my way through the names listed in the credits and found another one: Private George Stringer, Manchester, Awarded the Victoria Cross at the Battle of Es Sinn in Mesopotamia.
Capt. Dobson, 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion, Killed on 9 July 1916 in Flanders.

Thank you. Thank you, for sharing your reaction so honest with us. Those seconds at the end, where you just sat, silent, speechless... those meant a lot for me. We live in a time, where people often seem to think, they have to say something, do something. Sometimes, there are no words. Without saying anything, you said a lot.
Thank you. For your emotions, the courage to show your feelings like this. Having strong emotions, and showing them, it is no weakness. In fact, I think it shows strength. And we need strenght, to prevent history from repeating itself, and maybe, one day, putting an end to war.
    Kind regards from Germany.

A great cover version by Sabaton . They paid Motorhead great respect in the way they did this cover . Lemmy's voice is nearly breaking at times when he sings this . A very powerful song and we will never forget them for laying down their lives for future generations that they never knew . They died before they had even lived a life . This is why my Grandfather and my Father have never spoken about what they went through serving King and Queen and Country in the wars and battles they went through . I am honoured to know them and grateful that I have never experienced what they or any member of the Armed Forces went through and are going through still and those in the Armed Forces fighting abraod now . Lest We Forget .

6:04 "By the End, Casualties from bothsides topped 1 million with more than 300,000 killed for 6 miles of ground"
In their song, The Price of a Mile, a snippet in the second part is
"Know that many men has suffered, Know that many men has died
6 miles of ground has been won, Half a million Men are gone."
and I believe a great choice for a follow up reaction would be that song honestly.

I had never heard this song before until now, holy crap.... I dont know if any of my family served in WW2 or WW1, but my grandfather was a green beret in the Vietnam war, They did some very tough things to survive. But what they had to do to survive was so bad, he absolutely refuses to talk about it, I only know this because of my grandma. My uncle served in Iraq, he was in a Humvee going down a road in what was supposed to be a safe zone, when a IED blew up right under them, flipping the Humvee and killing everyone except my uncle, He was sent home with brain damage and some sort of chemicals in his head, immediately went bald, and I have not heard from him in years now. I cant imagine how hard it is to go through this stuff. To any active forces, or veterans, and to all the fallen solders, I salute you.

So many lovely touches, topped off with the cameo from the surviving members of Motorhead, and of course the photo of Lemmy, taking their rightful place in the march. As a song though, as good as this is, I still prefer the more understated original Motorhead version.
