Worked like a charm for me, after changing the touch screen I thought I had mucked it up, been without a keyboard for months now, and out of curiosity I tried your trick. And now, I finally have a working keyboard, that's awesome thanks! :D
Happy to hear that! Glad my video helped you out! These surface laptops can be so frustrating I am on my 3rd one so far haha why do I keep supporting them 💀
THIS WORKED! did it twice as the guy recommended. And it atill wasn't working perfectly. Let it sit for a day oe two and now it works perfectly fine ❤❤ thank you 🎉
Hello- so my computer is new and I dont really know much about keyboards etc. My letters arent working but the mouse, other keybines are working like sound and light. And the vidoe was kinda confusing for me ngl so how what do I do?
If your computer is new then most likely you still have warranty with Microsoft. I had this computer for 3 plus years so Microsoft can't do anything about it. I would recommend going through them as you still have that 1 year warranty so take advantage of that 👍
@Mike 4.1 i’m having the same issue too - I’ve tried reinstalling the operating system, a brand-new original Microsoft type cover keyboard and absolutely nothing works. I’ve checked that the connectors are clean and they are. Did you ever find a resolution?
Thanks ktgage! After doing the step scanning for hardware changes my surface keyboard was automatically discovered and is now working normal again. I've saved your video - just in case.
Tried everything, only this worked for me: run command prompt as administrator, type "cfs /scannow", wait for the scan to end. It will likely detect corrupt files and fix them (without needing to restart your computer). My keyboard came back to life.
Hi I've tried everything even buying a new surface cover. Didn't work. I updated drivers . Still nothing . It worked for few hours only when I did a sf/scannow it picked up immediately and after a few hours when I closed the cover it stopped again.
Tried this and many others things: window install, drivers update, windows update, still doesn't work. I even brought a new cover keyboard, but what's strange, sometimes in BIOS UEFI it works, touchpad+ Keyboard but the buttons lights don't work. Any ideas?
Didn't solve anything for me. I purchased a Surface Pro 5 with red keyboard type case at a pawn shop for $140 it was $240 but I asked them what they could do since it had been there since August last year.
Sorry to hear that could be possible your problem could be more hardware related. Sometimes the bottom port can get damaged. If that is the case I would reccomend buying a Bluetooth keyboard that doesn't require power from the laptop. * I had this happen to one of my surface laptops
Wow, sorry to hear that. I paid $425 for my SurfacePro5 w/ knockoff keyboard a couple yrs ago. That keyboard died, so I just bought an original Microsoft keyboard/typecover to replace it but can't get it to work at all. I guess I'm saying feel better it wasn't as bad as my $525 ttl?😂
Please help. I am experiencing an issue on my Surface Pro 9. It's suppose to change to tablet interface when you detach the surface keyboard on landscape position. But it's not doing that. (Tablet interface is when taskbar is bigger and touchkeyboard appears whenever you need to type). There are workarounds but I am annoyed: (1) After detaching surface keeybard, I press the power button to sleep mode then boot again and it will only then be in tablet mode. (2) When I turn my tablet sideward, the screen will rotate then I detach the keayboard only then it works conveniently like a tablet. What is more annoying, when you detach the surface keyboard on a landscape position, it does not seem to detect that and worse now it won't rotate screen stays on landscape and no touch keyboard popping up. So, I need to do the workaround (1). I already contacted Microsoft, tried reinstalling Win11, reset settings and check updates. But to no avail. This is frustrating. Just bought this for weeks and it's having this issue. Hope you could help. Nico
Sorry for super late reply not as active on here than I use to be. But Check Tablet Mode settings make sure that Tablet Mode is enabled on your Surface Pro 9. You can do this by following these steps: Click on the Start button and select Settings (the gear icon). In the Settings window, choose System. Select Tablet Mode from the left-hand menu. Ensure that the "Make Windows more touch-friendly when using your device as a tablet" option is turned on. You said restarting didn't work and already updated to newest windows as well. I am suprised Microsoft support was of no help. Have you taken it to an in person Microsoft store? Having someone look at it in person is more easier for you problem I feel.
Hey thanks for reaching out. I would suggest if you know anyone personally that has a surface keyboard to try theirs out. This can help determine if it is a software issue or a hardware issue. If the problem still occurs with the new or friends keyboard then that means its software problem. If it does fix the problem then it's a hardware issue and you'll need to buy a new one. Once you find out what type of issue it will be easier to go from their to solve your problem as you narrowed it down.
Im still struggling... I was gifted a surface windows 10 and the keyboard hasnt worked.. trying to find a solution. I tried cleaning connections woth alcohol and swabs. Currently i am serching for online drivers .. and its been taking a long time for it to complete that step..
If I were you I would check if you are still within your warranty. If you aren't sure you can always reach out to Microsoft support that way if you are insured they can fix and ensure everything is good to go. That would be my first step and if you aren't within warranty I would listen to their suggestions whether the problem is software or hardware related. That will easily determine on what you need to fix as well. Because if you are factory resetting your Surface and are still having the problem it is most likely hardware related. By that I mean you port on the surface that connects to the keyboard is most likely damaged and will need to be replaced which can cost around 250 dollars. I was in this boat and decided to go with jusy using a Bluetooth keyboard as a work around. Anyways I wish you goodluck and sorry for the long comment.
Hi, I just bought my surface pro two weeks ago and the keypad didn't work. I tried cleaning the connector but initially it didn't work. But after I flew back home I tried it again the darn thing work. Every thing was fine until I flew back to work and the stupid thing stopped working again. I tried your method of device manager driver reset but to no avail. Do you have any clue why?
I feel because you recently bought it you should take advantage of your warranty and try to have Microsoft fix it 👍 I tried taking mine back before I made this video but it was out of warranty 💔 But it seems like it is a common problem that the surface keyboard have connecting issues 🤦♂️ I have switched from their keyboard to a off brand Bluetooth one and have zero problems that is another solution. I wish you good luck sir!
I tried everything and nothing worked. What worked for me was to go down into the notification area in the bottom right corner, and enable and disable tablet mode and then my keyboard started working again
Are you able to confirm it's a software or hardware problem? If you can determine if it's a software or hardware issue itll be easier to diagnose and fix it. Thanks
Interesting if possible I would go to a best buy near you and ask if you can test a keyboard to see if its the keyboard or your surface. That should help out significantly. If same problem persists then it should be a some software solution. I reccomend just trying to uninstall and reinstall the drivers.
Also Microsoft online support can also help with software solutions. Additionally if you are under your warranty and nothing works out they should be able to fix it for free.
How do you activate keyboard cuz mine isn't working. I have the K10 tablet by vastking Also On zoom I'm able to hear the other person but they can't hear me even with my headphones in. Even when I turn volume and microphone on. All the permissions are enabled for the app so I'm not sure why that's happening. It's really annoying. I don't know if it's a zoom issue or my tablet but it's a new tablet
My Keyboard is not working, I have a surface pro 3, but I hard reset it and now it is not working, I dont know why, but I am very frustrated. It happened because I hard reset it?
I would try to boot your surface into bios in order to reset the keyboard you should be able to find a video on that. That is what I would do and that usually does the trick for me recently 👍
Hey... My touch keyboard is also not working like i don't know how to explain but for instance when you touch the search bar a keyboard open right but its not opening for me.... 😞..
Sorry to hear you are having issues with your keyboard. Sounds like you mainly use it as a tablet? I would double check that tablet mode is on so the keyboard will automatically pop up. If you are in desktop mode dont think it'll come up. Double check that first 👍👍👍
Mmmm don't think they are compatible to each other but doesn't hurt to try 🤔 I would definitely try to go to a best buy in person and bring your surface with you to make sure it works 👍 then you can go buy the keyboard on amazon or ebay for a cheaper price. I believe best buy can also price match to Amazon as well 👍
Sorry this didn't help with your Surface. If you haven't I would reccomend reaching out to Support to see if your issue is indeed software or hardware related to determine your next steps.
