- To fix Keyboard Not Working Problem in Windows 10, here are two methods:
Method 1: Open ‘Device Manager’ - Find ‘Keyboards’ Driver Software - Update it as shown in this video. Then restart your computer.
Method 2: Open On-screen keyboard - then open ‘Run’ Command box - Type ‘Regedit’ - In the Registry Editor window, follow this path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentConrolSet/Services
By selecting the key “i8042prt” under Services, go to right pane - open the key named ‘Start’ - Change its value data as 1 - Close all windows and restart your system.

This worked like a charm with the second method. Also after reinstalling a fresh set of drivers and a system restart. I saved this video for a future refresh in case I run into this senario again. Thanks so much!

Wow! I have had three techs look at this problem and not be able to fix it. Your second video did the trick. I'm so excited! I'm in the last few weeks of my graduate program for educational technology. I need to make some videos for my portfolio, and my Dell laptop keyboard stopped working. The laptop I'm borrowing didn't have enough power to properly run Camtasia. The videos came out choppy and glitchy. Now I can use my newly repaired, souped-up Dell Inspiron to finish my portfolio! Oh my goodness, thank you!! I was about to throw my laptop off the balcony in frustration!! Every day, a few different keys would choose to either not work, or double work! My son kept telling me the keys just need cleaning, but there was no dust there when I lifted them out! It's been SO frustrating trying to type anything these past 2 months!! You're a God-send! I just used method 2 and it is fixed. I searched "regedit" to open registry editor. I changed the value from 3 to 1 and clicked OK. I restarted and I am fixed. Thanks TechBee!

@@sebastian.trancu6826 I had problem with keyboard not functioning intermittently too (in Windows 11 update from Windows 10), like somEtimes keyboard fully disable, and sometimes I could not use the keys "a s d f and spacebar"
However, I have likely solved it by:
(Note every step down here must be done in "Administrator Mode")
Step 1: Update "Java"
Step 2: Open Windows Powershell (Admin) and run following commands
(a) Check File System for error: sfc /scannow
(b) Check Disk for error: CHKDSK /F /R
Step 3: Configure Registry like video shown in here (step 2 of this video)
still works to this day!! first method worked well and the instructions were very clear! thank you!

Fix 2 worked for me. The onscreen keyboard wouldn't work to enter the "regedit" command or to enter the value of 1 in the registry, so I sent myself an email with the necessary text then copied and pasted where needed. Keyboard works perfectly now. Thanks!
Hi, I've tried both methods multiple times and sadly it still doesn't work for me consistently, sometimes it solves the problem but only temporarily. Is it a case of doing it until it is perfect or a bigger issue i'm unaware of? i've tried every other method i've seen and nothing seems to be a permanent fix.

Just had this issue after plugging a removable hard disk on Windows 10.
Changing USB ports and changing keyboard did not solve my issue.
Luckily I found this guide and your second method worked like a charm!

Thankyou ever so much!! I used my mother's laptop and then the next day, this happened. I thought I was doomed but you're a lifesaver! The thing was, I already had the latest keyboard so I changed it to an older version and then I restarted it. And then I changed it back and voila!
