This is what I absolutely, unequivocally, do not miss at all. And I grew up there. Why, you’d think I’d be happy eating bowls of sand for that matter. However I do miss being able to drive out into the desert and being away from the city if want.

Thank you for posting this and speaking of everything specially about the misconception of living on a border city. When I tell people I am moving to El Paso, first thing that is mentioned is the darn cartels. Thanks for making these and making sure the people that are planning a move are well informed.

Silver City, Ruidoso, Cloudcroft, Hueco Tanks, Hatch (seasonal), Las Cruces, Highway 28 drive to Cruces, Elephant Butte and Caballo lakes, T or C hot springs, White Sands. Just some ideas.

@@LivingInElPasoTexas Hueco Tanks is a cool place to visit, and climb. Ruidoso and Cloud Croft are great places to spend the day or weekend. Hatch Chili Festival is awesome! Elephant Butte, and Caballo Lakes are very sad, and damn near drained, I can remember when they were filled and fun. White Sands is fun, but very hot.. wear pants and sun screen or trust me life will suck if you don't. There are a lot of historic places like Silver City in New Mexico that you can go explore, make sure to check out all the missions, they are for sure a treat if you love history. In El Paso make sure to visit the Gene Roddenberry planetarium, as well as Insights Museum. T or C and the hot springs are really not much of anything to see.. unless you like tiny towns in the middle of no where. Alamogordo is an awesome smaller town with a great view of the mountain. Lots of charm and character too. The desert Southwest has lots of cool historic things to see and if you are creative enough lots of things to do on the cheap.
A Con would be: No HEB nor Trader Joe's (yet). There is a Whole Foods, on the west side, which is pretty nice. Overall, I feel El Paso is under-appreciated, which coming from Austin, is a good thing.
YES! We are moving to El Paso in about a month, and my main disappointment was no Braum's, HEB or Trader Joe's. I bet they'll make it out there eventually, though.
Slots Right, I was born and raised in El Paso. I tried moving back in 2013. There are no jobs in EP that pays worth a damn. If you are not fluent in Spanish your not getting a job. EP has become very racist.

I live in Seattle and have been to EP twice. Good is lots of sun and low costs of housing. Bad is awful amount of speeding almost reckless drivers and restaurants are not the best.

As a DISCLAIMER, he is a realtor, so he is wanting your business, and he is going to spin the place in a more positive way so that you will want to move there and he can profit off your business. Please do far more research than just this guys videos.
I was born and raised in El Paso. I am as of this writing 50 years old. I spent the majority of my life in El Paso, and can tell you his videos are a lot of spin. I did move away 4 years ago, but still have family in El Paso.
What he does not tell you is that the city tossed a bunch of people out of their homes to build those reservoirs, gave them pennies on the dollar for their homes. Just like how the City is trying to tear down part of Downtown ( a historic Community ) to build something the voters did not okay and how the city council is corrupt and wanting to profit on that neighborhood misery. How the city made Western Playland leave the park it was in so they could build a resort where it stood. Just look in to the corruption that reeks from those that govern you in El Paso.
El Paso is 2 hours from Cloud Croft NM, a forest area that is much cooler than El Paso in the summer... a great place to DAY TRIP. But he is right El Paso is LAND LOCKED.
I was in Law Enforcement in El Paso, the Cartels are in full force there. They do want to keep it safe ( or appear so ) to make it easier to transport drugs and sex slaves with less problems. He is not telling you how the mayor of Juarez lived in a fortified house in El Paso to keep him alive. He is not telling you how they still to this day find bodies hanging from bridges, heads on pikes in the streets, and how the US Press has to travel in armored caravans when reporting over there. Nor is he reporting how Juarez was the deadliest place on the PLANET. Did you know that Soldiers and their families are absolutely forbidden to travel to Juarez? Also the chief of police is an expert in fudging the FBI stats... they do it by passing crimes off to several other agencies in the area... or reporting crimes at a lesser charge to make the city look safer. The Sheriff and the Chief have a long feud going on as well.
I also wonder why this guy is so afraid of the North East side of town, and why he focuses on the west and east side so much.
I love the mountains, and the smell after it rains there, and the food, best Mexican food is for sure in El Paso. Its not all bad, I just don't want you being fooled and I want you to go in eyes wide open to what El Paso really is, and what it is not.. so again please do much more research that just this guys videos. GOOD LUCK!
@@jerristeele6781 Closing your eyes to what is going on there does not make the city safer. Misleading people into a false sense of security does not make it better.
El Paso is not all bad, but it is not all good either, it is not all sunshine and rainbows and trying to sell someone a false set of goods is a disservice to the good people of El Paso, or those that would move there on false pretenses.
Again dont take my word for anything, I am just a former life long resident of the city born and raised there, who served the public as a peace officer from 2010 to 2013. I moved away for better opportunities and growth. El Paso will always be my home, I do miss it, and agree it is not all bad. But I am not going to blow smoke up any ones butt and hide the truths of the region or the city or the corruption that takes place there, not even to sell them a house.
@@jerristeele6781 I am looking for the News 7 video of the reporters showing off their armored truck, and masked guards with automatic weapons to go into Juarez to report on the cartels activities... I think it was done in 2017 or 2018. When I find it I will post it here so you can have your proof you require.

As John Pena said in his introduction there are upsides and downsides to every community. El Paso is no different. Your commentary has more to do with frustration on your view of how things should be in the city. Lumping together an entire city with generalizations just because his videos don't fit your political narrative don't really give you much credibility. Some people are smart enough to do research and also visit the place they plan to move to. Just because you're upset/bitter about El Paso's political and ethnic makeup does not mean someone else will hate it. As a previous poster said the worse violence El Paso has seen was at the hands of a white supremacist from the Dallas area who murdered over twenty people in August 2019.

Good point about the Con: It was such a bummer not being able to visit Juarez growing up. Although, I'm genetically part Mexican, my Spanish is not great either and I look mostly white. When I visited Spain, it was common to hop around from country to country, which is why they are so much more cultured. I wish I could casually visit Juarez and experience the culture over there without fearing for my life.

Distances: To get to the Gulf Coast its 845 miles to South Padre Island and 830 to Port Arthur but Los Angeles is only 810. Denver, CO = 635, Las Vegas NV = 737 - This is a damn big state! Heck Cheyenne, WY is that same distance as San Diego.

Hi and I would humbly suggest Googling 'El Paso homes for rent' to get an idea of what's out there. Most agents don't do a lot with helping folks find homes to rent, rather you can reach out directly to the landlord or property manager directly for the application!

Because the property taxes so high in El Paso and lower in New Mexico what are the best areas that are very very close to El Paso but has the same quality of house and view of the mountains in New Mexico
I've live on the Westside for 7 years from Dallas and it's been a good place for my family. We have never had any problems with safety. My kids have plenty to do. For me my only real complaint is the property taxes. 3.07%

Hi Laura, there are definitely plenty of jobs for CDL drivers here. Since El Paso sits right on I-10, we have a lot of jobs in transportation.
Been living here in the borderlands for about 35 years now. Some of your info is a bit outdated, but I agree that it's a great place to live and the biggest problem is that we really are betwixt and between when it comes to major urban amenities.

Difference: where the sun sets, views of or from Franklin mountains, cultural diversity, safety, development (new homes vs older homes), shopping/restaurants/ entertainment, wy did you specifically decided on the west side?/ flooding/ employment opportunities. I would imagine it's a big decision and nuances when deciding on west vs east vs northeast and as someone from phillly I wouldn't even begin to know. also i really the love the detail of your videos and appreciate the time you put into the editing etc.
west side is lots of rich white people w/attitudes. east side is mixed incomes and mellower attitudes. Northeast is Fort Bliss territory, cheap rentals/housing, pawn shops, gun stores, bars and so on. Lower valley has small family ranches/farms. I'm in lower valley and hear train whistles and crowing roosters.
@@susanjoseph173 susan, not sure what you mean by "safe for my color". blacks are only about 4 percent of el paso, 14 percent white, and the rest hispanic. the reality is that, if i had to guess as someone who doesnt really know that city, that you will have more potential issues from hispanics than whites. also, the better schools will often be in whiter middle class areas, if i had to guess, so theres that.

OG hi, great question and I did research that before making the video. If you google “el paso juarez violence” you’ll find some pretty interesting articles on the subject. The consensus is that the reason El Paso doesn’t see much, if any, spillover of violence is due to the very high presence and number of US law enforcement from local to Homeland Security to FBI, CIA, etc and the fact that any and all crimes committed here WILL be investigated and prosecuted. Since I’ve been here there haven’t been any news of Juarez violence spilling into El Paso.
Unfortunately, the greatest violence was the Walmart shooting by an American citizen.
Is Juárez really as bad as they say? If I move to El Paso, I’d like to spend some time in Juárez as well.

I use a program called Sketch for the thumbnails and graphics but you can use Canva too. I use Davinci Resolve to edit the videos. I’m thinking about relocating to El Paso or Alamogordo NM FROM NYC. So I have a question, how has the violence affected El Paso? Has it spilled over the border? Is it safe to live near the border
Hi, great question. No, the violence does not spill over the border. There are too many physical barriers and so much law enforcement here. The border is very secure, making El Paso one of the safest cities in the country.

@@fantonio234 El Paso is actually way under staffed in Law Enforcement... last time I checked like 250 or so officers under staffed. There are several agencies in the area though. Sheriff, EPPD, Horizon Police, Military Police, Constables, Border Patrol, Railroad Police, and Park Police. Not to mention the FBI has a huge facility they share on Biggs aka East Bliss. It may feel like there is a lot, but with almost 3 million people in Juarez, and over 600k in El Paso it is really under represented by Law Enforcement in the city.

@@WalkingPrepper Having been in Law Enforcement back in 2010 there in El Paso, leaving for better pay in another city.. I know how understaffed they are. The city did not run any academies for a long period of time. But there is also more to that story and how the city passes the buck to other agencies to keep its stats low. Oh I am sure crime is on the rise. But Police wont bust their ass to arrest people if the DA wont prosecute, so it mostly falls on a Bad DA, and limited number of police who are spread way thin.

I like to metal detect. Are there any parks and other places one can metal detect in or around El Paso?
You know, there are a ton of parks in El Paso and the Franklin Mountains. I can't say that I know specifically about metal detecting but I do know there are some old, abandoned tin mines that you can hike to in the mountains, and there is supposed to be an area of unexploded military ordinances somewhere, but of course, that's not where you're going to want to get metal detecting! 😀

Yes, minimum wage is low and unskilled work is competitive. Retail and food jobs are going to pay less. Skilled workers, teachers, law enforcement, healthcare, etc are going to make more money and be able to capitalize on the low cost of living. Google 'el paso minimum wage'

I been looking at property there I currently live in Denver and sold my 1 bedroom 580sq ft condo for 173k 🤦♂️ it was a shoebox .. I want to wait at least one more year to save up and see what the markets do with the whole ressesion that’s about to hit ..

Iv lived in El Paso for about 12 years now. I love it and I would never want to move. however, as a white guy let me give yall some advice. learn Spanish. Spanish is the first language here and people can be rude about it, even to go as far as to refuse to speak English when you heard them laughing and speaking English 2 minutes before. and if they think you cant speak Spanish they will talk about you and call you names straight to your face, smiling while you are talking to them. you have no idea the racism iv heard because they thought I didn't understand. (not everybody, but it does happen a lot, mostly in the Socorro/San Elizario area) also when you're looking for a job in most places Spanish is required, English is not. The other big problem is the people from Jaurez, they are not insured..ever and if they hit your car they will take off. other than that, the food is great, most of the people are great, there is a lot to do, its safe and the culture here is amazing and mostly accepting.
I've driven truck forever and have been to El Paso many times. Its a great place but a little hot. When in my sleeper at night, I could hear the gunfire across the border in Juarez. I've always wanted to go there but probably never will.
One of the cons about ElPaso, is the lack of high paying jobs relative to the population.
And Property Taxes are sky high!

Juárez is exactly like any other border or even big city . If you go to places where is secure you Will not have any security problem. Obvius if you are looking for drugs and bad company you will find it in Juárez too.
What about health care
There's a medical school and a dental school now. A pharmacy program just started at UTEP too. University Medical Center partners with the medical school. There's also a children's hospital plus two or three private hospital chains in the city with different locations. Not sure if that's what you are asking about.

The arts and diversity are not on the same level as Austin and San Antonio, however, the arts culture is strong and MORE diverse in some ways. Beautiful new children's art museum designed and being built as we speak!

OK, that's great! For the record, I've yet to see a single scorpion or snake. I know we have rattlesnakes in the mountains and I'm sure there are spiders, but I saw a lot more bugs and critters in Florida, Houston, Kansas City, etc. Places that are more humid tend to have more creepy-crawlers!!

It is a healthy environment. People poison the environment then it becomes sterile. It's sad when nothing can live in the land.
Scorpions , snakes & wild life are common near the mountains.common bugs are cockroaches, ants, & black widow spiders.
alot of cockroaches, black widow and brown recluse spiders, and sometimes scorpions. Lizards are very commen also and depending on where u live turantulas and snakes. excuse my spelling. This is only me sharing my experience living in El paso during the 90´s and early 2000´s.

This older lady did die in the monsoon... worst part is the cops did not help her and threaten other civilians if they tried to help they would be arrested

Is a city not town
It’s always hot. You can’t step outside because it IS TOO HOT! There’s too much sand and dirt. We sweep and mop every 2 days. The fine dust that swirls around is very, very bad for those with breathing issues. If you walk into a store, you are not greeted in English (not a hater, my parents were Mx). As for illegals, yes, there are many. They do all the grunge work (roofing, construction, etc). That being said, the quality of work is very poor. Everything is inexpensive for this reason. And thank you for explaining that the only thing there is to do in El Paso is; eat, travel to somewhere else, or get drunk.
IF you can move to New Mx, do it. Dallas/Frisco area. Do NOT move here.

Thinking of moving to El Paso? Don't. It is miserable. Every time I got to travel somewhere else I found myself asking myself why the hell am I in El Paso? Well...it might be nicer than Van Horn. I bless the day I finally left this miserable place. When traveling and people would ask me where I lived and I would say El Paso.....the look on their face! Yeah it got pretty embarrassing until I just would not admit to it anymore. People in the know, know not to live in El Paso.
Can you give some details why you hate it so much?
