I never realized how good El Paso’s mass transit and transportation infrastructure was until I moved to the Austin area more than 17 years ago. I’ve heard some folks talk bad about El Paso but in my opinion it is way more advanced in a lot of areas than the area I currently reside in and I think the non-congestion is in part due to the forward thinking of the city. Thank you for shining a favorable light on El Paso. I miss the culture, the mountains and the wonderful smell of the desert when it rains. I also miss crossing that bridge and visiting Juarez. Not sure if you have mentioned this but the city also houses Ft. Bliss military base which always gave me peace-of-mind.

Thanks for the good information, we moved here on August 2020 from Castle Rock , CO . Mainly because of medical reasons we have found some excellent doctors for my wife that have keep her condition under control. We rented for a year and last June found the perfect home for us and couldn’t be happier , also my love that everywhere she goes they speak Spanish since we do too , lol .

As far as traffic like any big city there is traffic. What I see is if you avoid the rush hour on weekdays it is not that bad... Thru traffic on the 10 can get busy and the exits into Mexico are sometimes backed up and cause the ripple effect during high traffic times.... overall not any worse than anywhere else in a growing city.... Thanks

One thing you left out is crime and safety. I moved here 3 years ago and I feel generally safe and free to go anywhere. There are poor sections of town, but there is not a giant ghetto you have to steer clear of. For example a similar sized city is Omaha. They have a giant ghetto covering about 1/5 of the city and you just can't go there. Also the young people of Mexican heritage have great respect for older people. Their culture is one of almost worship to their grandparents and parents, and it is very refreshing.

Tossing in...just because: something that goes up and down my back like a window shade. Moved to El Paso 11 years ago. I'm pasty white and my Spanish is just passable. To all those who are considering moving here or vacationing here and think everyone in this country ought to be speaking English--please, pretty please, DON'T come here. I've seen more than my fair share of visitors absolutely losing it because the people at the next table are speaking Spanish, or the people in front of them in the grocery store checkout are speaking Spanish. Folks here speak Spanish to the tune of about 90%. We don't have an official American language. No, we don't. If you're wondering what I'm talking about, then just sift through TH-cam and you'll catch on pretty quick. This is a great city, retired here and ain't plannin' on going anywhere else. Love the people. Regularly cross the creek for a night out, also. Oh, and yes, the food here is to die for! Thanks for the vid.

Right! The Western U.S. was first visited by the Spaniards, the first Europeans, which is why most of the western states have a large Hispanic population, especially the Mexicans. Spanish has been spoken in the Southwestern U.S. long before the United States came into existence.
In 1581, Capt. Francisco Sánchez led an expeditionary party consisting of three friars, 9 soldiers, and 19 servants, 90 horses, and some 600 livestocks (pig, sheep, goat, cattle), who walked and passed through today's El Paso. and crossed the wider Rio Grande. This expedition was a lesser known expedition known as "Sánchez-Rodríguez Expedition" or "Chamuscado-Rodriguez Expedition" and to this day, my family and relatives continue to live in TX and NM who are mostly bilingual like myself.

You guys only mentioned half of what El Paso Metro Area has to offer. This is just half of the info and facts you guys mentioned. The other half is just a couple steps away a whole other city bigger then El Paso a whole other country Ciudad Juarez Mexico El Pasos sister city the other half. Common you guys act like if its not there or really far away or it does not count? Its technically all a whole city in 2 countries. There is also many restaurants fun things shopping doctors etc other experiences in just a couple minutes drive!! That is one of the main things that attract us to move to El Paso soon being living in 2 countries practically at the same time!! 🇺🇸 🇲🇽. The other is the cost of living way cheaper then here currently in Denver Colorado where we are priced out in house prices and anxious to move away from here soon. El Paso house prices are a very good low price bargain for us.

Hi! Not sure why my previous post did not publish. To give you an idea on kids' activities I've compiled this list:
      1. Chalk The Block (Festival that takes place in the Fall in downtown El Paso)
      2. Water parks in different sections of the city. (Small to medium size). Wet N Wild is the biggest one. (seasonal)
      3. Western Playland amusement park (spring and summer only)
      4. Ice skating at the minor league hockey rink
      5. Sports leagues for kids exist throughout the city depending on what sport they like.
      6. El Paso Children's Museum (Projected opening Summer 2022)
      7. Indoor trampoline parks like Rockin' Jump, Urban Air and X-Zone.
      8. Roller skating at Roller Bomb and another being built at the El Paso Outlet Mall.
      9. El Paso Zoo
      10. Indoor skydiving (not sure of the age requirements)
      11. There's art, history, archaeology and other museums.
      12. Escape rooms
      13. Skiing, inner tubing is available in Ruidoso, NM., which is like a 2.5 hour drive away.
      14. White Sands is also cool to visit and that's only 2 hours away more or less.
      15. Digital wall (Downtown outside of the history museum and El Paso Public Library).
      16. Corn mazes and pumpkin patches in the Fall. (They're in La Union, NM and Las Cruces, NM. Drive can be between 20 and 40 minutes depending on where you live.
I am sure there's other amenities, but that's all that I could come up with. The links below will give you more information:

I grew up in El Paso. Moved to GA for about 10 years in my late twenties, then moved back home. The school rating is very low unfortunately. As far as activities for kids, my granddaughter is 7 and the few activities are pricey, (ballet, dance...) I'm still looking. But there are a lot of activities for kids who like sports. The entertainment for adults is what you make it. If you are open to anything, there are a quite a few things to do. We don't get too many big concerts or popular musicals but you can make the most of what we do have and enjoy life.😊

No tornadoes, no hurricanes, no earthquakes and no wild fires, just very occasional flooding on low ground near the Rio Grande,--which for several months of the year has no
water by the time it reaches El Paso. On the West Side, near the Franklin Mountains, it can get very windy quite often. Comparison: I live in California, my wife in El Paso.
I worry about earthquakes and especially wildfires. My wife has no "natural disaster" concerns.

I saw what you did there, nice way to dance around the elephant in the room. Most people that work unskilled jobs come here from juarez. They don't live here, they commute from Juarez, which is also why it seems like there are more people here in El paso than there actually are.

EP is great if your the laidback type, you're looking to retire or start a family. The jobs in EP are mainly in the service industry. If you're not working for UTEP, the city, or Ft. Bliss your wages will be near rock bottom. Homes may appear cheaper than other cities but they aren't. We have one of the highest tax rates (3%) in Texas and currently homes are overvalued, which means your mortgage won't be cheap. Public transportation sucks, you need a car. Crime is so-so. There's some neighborhoods (even on the west side) that you need to avoid. It used to be very calm but due to massive growth it's common to hear about shootings and stabbings on a daily. The culture here, depends where you're from can be good or bad. For one, you have to comfortable hearing Spanish and be willing to learn if you want to integrate. If you come from a shithole like Stockton or Baltimore, you'll love EP but if you come from a more affluent city and you're not broke, chances are you won't like it here. Definitely not a place to be if your ambitious and are looking to network.

My grandparents moved to El Paso Tx in the mid 90s to retire I spent many of my summers in El Paso. You forgot to mention the weather it hot but not that hot like 90-100 is the average daily high in July.
I Lived in El Paso for a short time in 2008. Trying to a unskilled job was nearly impossible I'm not completely bilingual but I can understand Spanish speakers. But while riding on the sun metro bus I overheard some Spanish speakers talking about me in a not so nice way and I turned around said entendi todo lo que dijiste ( I understood everything you said) and the bus just went quit! 🤣🤣

Minimum wage: $7.25 an hour statewide. Renting is about the same whether it's an apartment or house. It's also about the same as a mortgage. Better off buying. Here and nationwide, housing inventory is at a historic low. Lots of competition for each available listing, which are snapped up in no time. Much of the rental listings are pricey, given the age and inventory, compared to other Texas cities. Video is spot on in regards to new construction. Growth is out far east and toward Horizon City. Locals may recommend these areas for the safest places, though the crime is spotty throughout the city, but mostly concentrated in the older established neighborhoods.

As a resident of El Paso... that shit is overblown. the border control police have all that shit handled and El Paso has ranked in the number one spot several times and in the top three several other times as the safest large city... and hold your breath... in the world... and then the white dude who drove several hours just to shoot people at one of the largest, central, and busiest walmarts in the city. Man, it's like anywhere is extremely safe... if you don't have racists... because actual border towns between the US and Mexico are actually the safest places in the US. ... If you stop watching fox news (fake news, how do I know it's fake? I fucking live here, fuck these fucking rhetoric buckets), nobody is jumping over fences or threatening everybody... they line up on the border here to show that they are here and waiting... and that the waiting game is killing many of them when it comes to immigration.

Don’t recommend moving to El Paso. Property taxes are among the highest in the country and the government here has a nasty habit of artificially increasing property values to boost property taxes while also increasing taxes every year. Biggest scam ever. Also, El Paso is in the desert, and water is in short supply, so say goodbye to real grass and trees unless you like rocks for landscaping. Thirdly, El Paso is a poor city, but we have to maintain two government entities, a city and a county government, and outlandish salaries for a city manager that really does nothing for the 400k+ salary he currently draws. Finally, our school districts are among the worst in the country, yet we don’t hesitate to pay superintendents here upwards of 400K in salary plus perks, yet we see very little return for this outlandish investment, while school districts take advantage of kids and families by sending them out to sell candy and snacks to make extra money to pay for extracurricular activities. Oh, forgot to mention street construction projects that seem to go on forever, causing traffic congestion, but always resulting in less than desirable outcomes. And although it doesn’t rain much here, we have a major problem with flooding even though we are forced to pay an outlandish flood tax that does little to solve the flooding problems. And that’s the god’s honest truth!!

Every cities have pros and cons. You opted to focus on the cons only so that's basically one sided story. Why not two sides or even better three sides? Results will be quite different from yours. I'm 100% confident that you have family or relatives still living in El Paso.

I moved to El Paso 5 years ago. EL PASO IS A BORING PLACE! It took me about a month to do everything there is to do here. Now I spend my weekends trying to think of something
to do. As for the traffic, Stay away from East El Paso. That's Houston traffic over there. Northeast isn't bad. now days when I want to see interesting things and places, I leave El Paso. I stopped speaking to the people that talked me into moving here. There is a reason that the locals call it Hell Paso.

  • @davidcapps5438

Are you kidding? I lived there for 40 years and it's embarrassing that there are so many people working in places like Walmart and restaurants that don't speak English. It's a very poor town and lacks anything exciting to do. There's a reason why there are no major amusement parks or pro teams there. The only lake in town is so polluted that if you get in the water, you will have a dark, smelly film on your body that won't rinse off. Not to mention that it's next to the murder capital of the world which of course comes with its own set of issues because the big criminals live in El Paso and not in Juarez.
