The minimum wage in Texas is $7.25, but it's been years and years since I've heard anyone making that. My 17 year old nephew works at McDonald's, and he makes $15/hr. No one pays minimum here.

Do not drive into El Paso at night from the West, or El Paso may kill you. The 10 freeway is reduced to one lane, which you share with 18-wheelers. That, however is not the worst part. The road diversions and exits are poorly marked; if marked at all, and you are left wondering in which direction the single-lane continues. It is difficult to navigate in daylight, at night it is very dangerous, and this has been the case for several years. That stretch of road would disgrace a third-world country. {My wife and I have lived in El Paso for 26 years, so this is not a rush-to-judgement.}

The El Paso streets department is either: 1. Underfunded, 2. Inept, or, 3. Corrupt. Or, a combination of all 3. I've lived in other areas of the U.S. and never seen worse streets design (think "engineers"), or existing road repairs. Truly.

Hey John. My question is what if I want to BUY one of these lots for personal use? For example I saw a 10 acre lot on Zillow for an enticing price and thought, "Hey That would be nice to own a piece of open wilderness and maybe just keep it as a park for hiking or biking" How would that work?

John & Alejandro, we are looking at moving to El Paso in about two years! It should be our last move. I’m retiring! I am also retired military & will be retiring from US Navy Federal Employee. I am also 100% VA Permanent & Total Disabled which means NO PROPERTY TAX on my home. Need to know the best place to live as retired couple. Also better new or used? Would prefer one story home do to my disabilities. Looking at going to El Paso in September or so to look at city. El Paso, Las Vegas, and Laughlin, NV are all in the running places to move! Fort Bliss (military base) is a big draw for us. Having a GOOD VA Hospital is another reason. I wish I didn’t have to move at this point in my life, but California is totally out of control and the State is NOT retiree friendly! Time to go! I really hope to stay in touch. I’m constantly looking and watching videos! Be safe!

I enjoy watching your shows about El Paso. I grew up in El Paso and have always wanted to move back. The problem I have is the property tax in Texas.

Do not try to drive into El Pao from the West, { from the Las Cruces direction}, at night. El Paso road works will kill you. Confusing, inadequate and potentially lethal "directions." in the road works area. with one-lane only. and inadequately posted diversions. {My wife and I are 26-year residents, and we recommend driving only in daylight if approaching from the West.}

Hello, I'm 16 and I live in Illinois with my family and I'm getting kicked out when I turn 18, I want to find a place now, is El Paso a good place for a new 18 year old to get an apartment and live because I want to move to either Texas or Florida and Texas is cheaper, is there better places in Texas because I want something where it's warm all year and I don't know where to go, is El Paso a good choice?

I'm retired and moved to El paso 2 1/2 years ago. It was an absolutely a great decision . I agree with you on the cons , but you left out my #1 Con that absolute psychotic driving 🚗 I use to ride a motorcycle 🏍 once I moved here, I sold it. Hell I'm not comfortable driving I 10 in my truck!!

Nice home to view. I would like to see you do a piece on the top 5 or 10 builders in El Paso. Some of the new homes I went through were complete garbage with lots of lipstick to try and conceal the poor craftsmanship. I don't mind spending good money on quality, but a lot the homes scare me and especially for the asking prices. Please show some light on the builders and the subcontractors, too. Thanks, John!

Been in Horizon for two years I like the area not a fan of the traffic on Eastlake exiting I 10 but overall nice spot to reside...

Cost of living is higher than you might expect and if you're not bilingual, good luck.

A con about the Eastside is that it's overcrowded.

Job market as some people already mention. Its hard to get a good job here ( other than Health related ) . If you really like fruit the fruit flavor is not great like east Texas ( not sure about other states), the good and bad think at the same time about this is Juarez fruit tastes better for the most part but you can only cross around 50%( maybe a bit less or more) of it to the US. Lastly I don’t think is really a con but rather something to consider Colder winters compare to east Texas main cities (except DFW) and some other places in the southern of the US

Hard to get a normal job with all the Juarez workers coming over daily. Thankfully more attractive pools have opened for Summer. And once the amphitheater @Chamizal opens we can compete with Albuquerque

I'm not going to lie, service is definitely a hit or miss. ABout 75% of the time it's good. Though 25% you have some minor issues. For me it's the amount of stray pets I come across or hear people FIND or LOSE in the neighborhood app. Not even in the app I live in the NE and you'll be driving down a road and there's a stray dog just wondering out and about. I"m like damn how tf are all these people losing track of their pet so much!? It's embarrassing.

Im still goin...look up any master planned community in any other state with the same weather and land and they put in tons of green acres of grass, plant friggin trees, make huge LAKES, parks and green golf courses..these builders slapping down sandstorm parking lots and creating Fallout housing, insta ghettos in a decade. Wow. You guys should all call a meeting and refuse to sell that shit, all the realtors.

The biggest con for me is no green grass or trees that your see in San Antonio or Houston . El Paso is so far from the rest of Texas places like San Antonio are closer to New Orleans and what they are to El Paso . El Paso job market is lackluster..
