      Why do you say Corolla 2012 when 2013 was the last model for that generation? Isn't the last model supposed to be perfect? It basically is the same car as the 2012 with little addition.

      Hey Scotty, I own a 2001 Toyota Sequoia with 238k Miles. It has a P0770 code for a shift solenoid that has been popping up. I have had the transmission serviced (changed the fluid, changed the trans filter, and the solenoids) I had two different transmission mechanics drive the vehicle and they said it shifted perfect. Any idea what can still be wrong?

I gave it to my son while he was in college and he still owns it. Now it has 220,000 miles on it and the only work done on it has been oil changes and accessory belt replacement.

    Scotty, when I was selling used cars, and someone was looking at two cars, different brands, say Chrysler n Accord, same mileage, customer would likely ask, "why is the Accord so much more $$$?" Answer: "when u buy any car, new or used, all you r buying is UNUSED MILES, the Accord costs more because it has 200,000 miles left in it, the Chrysler is just about toast." That comment sold a lot of Toyotas and Hondas.

      This channel is on reliability, easy maintanance and low cost. Nowadays are complex and not easy to work on. Toyota scores well, but it is because we don't rember how an old Merc w123 or old Volvo was. You paid more and got durability. Nowadays cars are tailored to a world market and part of the world demands cars that are disposibles. I support old world quality.

      I've been with my mechanic husband since 1985. I can tell you that we have never owned a new car. Normally our cars are from auctions or somewhere really cheap, fixed by him from junkyard parts and fixed just enough to run, no frills. He doesn't like working for free. He works at his "normal" job and always has side work after. His phone rings at all hours 24/7, 365. I hate it. People call on holidays, you name it. No one cares that he might have a life, a family. He lets people get by without paying and most never end up never paying and then want help again. Grrrr He has a hard time saying no. I would at least like them to pay for their parts since most of the time I have to pay for them and go get them from the parts store. Anyway, the point is, you can't go by what a mechanic drives. Ironically, my husband is a Lead Master Subaru Tech. lol My parents both own Subarus and my husband drives one. I don't. Maybe sometime we'll find a beater one cheap enough for me. lol Have you never heard the saying that the plumber has the leakiest pipes in town? Guys that fix stuff don't want to work on their own stuff at home. It's just the nature of the beast and they sure don't want to spend money on the new stuff 'cause they know how much of a waste it is.

    My 2000 Toyota Corolla is my beater! Currently at 318,000 miles and its never had a major repair! My biggest expenses with it have been 6 sets of tires, new brake pads and multiple windshield wipers :) I've owned it since it was new and always changed the oil every 5000 miles. I use a computer program Automotive Wolf that monitors the maintenance schedule, repairs, fuel usage and other expenses and calculates the cost to operate the vehicle. My Corolla is at $ 0.06 per mile! My Ford truck is at $1.20 per mile :(

    I still currently have my 1994 Toyota Corolla. I'm at 235,000+ miles & it still runs great. Same engine & transmission. I got it 11 years ago for $2k cash & it hasn't given me any major problems. I just needed it to get me through college but it succeeded my expectations. I replace the battery, tires, and oil changes on a regular basis. It's truly a gem. I have no idea when it's gonna die on me, but I plan on keeping it until it does. At that, point I will purchase my first brand new car, more than likely another Toyota. As scotty said, some of the Accords had issues. But historically they have been quite reliable (prior to 2010 I'd say). The Civic's have usually been pretty good (the late 80's to late 1990's before the redesign in 2001, were the best IMO--I've seen a lot of those go 300-350k. Honda civics are amazing. You want a reliable easy car? BOOM wanna fix it up and destroy mustangs in the quarter mile BOOM. The engine swaps are also endless. B16 B20 K20 ive even seen them LS swapped

  • @Bundy714
    @Bundy714 5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    I've owned a '98 and a '99 Camry, and put over 300K miles on each, with no engine or automatic transmission issues on either one. The things were bullet proof as far as the engine and drivetrain went. They were hands down the most reliable and trouble free cars I have ever owned. I finally sold them because they were old as heck, and starting to look a bit rough around the edges, but they were still driving great. I really don't know how many miles they eventually had on them, as both odometers stopped working sometime after turning over 300k miles. I continued to drive them several more years with no engine or drivetrain problems, so I don't know if they made it to 400k or not.....but I suspect that they did. Pretty awesome when the first thing that gives out is the odometer. I seem to recall having a couple power window motors go out toward the end too. But seriously, I don't recall ever having a problem with the engine or transmission.
    I've also had great luck with both Honda Accords and Civics, but I don't think they were as bullet proof as those Camry's. You really can't go wrong sticking with Toyota or Honda if you want a reliable car.

    • @Bundy714

      @Larry McCraw Haha, funny about those odometers huh? I guess 250-300k miles is about as long as an odometer works.

      @Larry McCraw - looking for a decent vehicle on the cheap, didn't seem so difficult before! Found a comfy, economical car, mint with only 40k $850 (older man only used for grocery shopping). Wasn't fancy, but grew to love/appreciate it. Similar story: old lady in a Ford Fairlane ran stop sign in parking lot (claimed she didn't see it, I'd just turned in from rd) n totaled my reliable beloved - wadded like aluminum foil @ ~ 10mph. Hers: zero damage, mine: totaled out n only got $500!! Police report with her at fault! Ugh, still a lil bitter...

    An unintended ode to my vehicle: I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I absolutely love it. It has about 70K Miles on it, and I’ve never had any issues, except a broken windshield which was a rock‘s fault! The jeep took me from college graduation, across the country, all over the West Coast, then over to the south, we drove to the courthouse to get married in it, I picked up my husband’s urn in it (he passed away), I brought my newborn baby home in it and in two weeks I’ll be driving it to take her to her first day of fourth grade! So my jeep (who I’ve named Ruby) is kind of part of the family. She’s taking me through thunderstorms, the icy highways in the Rockies, down to the beach in Florida, and everywhere in between. She’s never let me down!

  • @warmothgmc

    Happy to know my 2013 Civic is on the list. It has been absolutely trouble free. I did recently slap a new battery in it just because the original factory battery was still in it. I’m a maintenance freak. Also recently got all new rear brakes...they were toast. It needed rotors, calipers, and pads...it was all shot. Runs like a champ and reliable as hell. I picked it up used a little over 4 years ago. I found out it was a Hawaii car. I insisted they threw it up on a lift so I could inspect the underside for rust damage before I agreed to buy it. Salt air is always a red flag. The only thing that annoys me about it is those stupid tire pressure sensors. Every winter season, I slap on my steel rim mounted studded snow tires in my driveway. The stupid tire pressure gauge lights always go on. Screw it, I have a compressor and tire pressure gauges.

    As a happy 2013 Honda Civic Si owner with 100K miles, I approve of this message. Let me contrast that with my wife's 2013 Cruze LTZ which has the same mileage. Both have had all of their fluids, tires, rotors, pads, and (soon to have) shocks/struts changed. Aside from the aforementioned wear/tear components, my Honda has had 0 repairs done to it. The Chevy on the other hand has gotten a new exhaust/cat combo assembly replaced (under warranty) at 80K, new steering stabilizers (one just detached from its ball joint and snapped in half as it got caught in the wheel, not to mention they're made out of plastic), and had the entire electrical system re-grounded with updated (non-recalled) grounding wires which took 2 weeks to diagnose at a shop. The Cruze is now leaking oil from the front of the block somewhere and ATF from the cooling lines, what a POS.

      Only 100k miles and you have so much changed in your Honda. I have BMW 328xi 2007 and it has 160k miles and I yet to change any of the struts/shocks or rotors. Still original ones. I had Honda Fit that I sold and it required a strut only after 69k miles - wasn't covered by warranty. It also had a recall on valve lifters and engine was noisy like a motorcycle or lawnmower - was small 4 cyl engine. I'm glad I sold that crappy car. Never again.

    • @ZachComa
      @ZachComa 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I probably put more stress on my Si than the normal driver would. I live in Chicagoland, which has bi-polar weather, endless terrible roads, and I drive it as an Si should be driven. I just put on some Yokohama Avid Ascend GTs over the weekend (which I've never used before), coming from Pirelli P7s which I'd highly recommend. The Michelin OEMs that it came with are high gas mileage garbage tires that take some real skills to drive in the snow. When / if you buy any 9th gen Civic (Si or not), immediately get some better tires and try selling your OEMs to a used tire shop.
