How do you do this when you have a toddler to take care of also? If my baby cries every 35 to 40 seconds, I can’t leave a toddler alone for an hour unsupervised to get the baby to go to sleep

I've a new grandmother. And the years have roughly taken a toll on my physical part of life. My daughter lives at home so I'm helping her with this gift of an angel. But lately our angel won't let us put her down to play and learn, she crys so loud I find us running to her because her cry sounds that of a baby who is in need. She will need fall asleep alone either she crys so loud so we run to her. We keep her very active so she is learning. But we need to know how do we let her cry and teach her how to self sooth. Most of the time she crys with no tears and laughs when we resue her. Please any advice will be so grateful at this point. Please be nice when responding.

Amazing tips... but how can I make my baby sleep alone?

I don't understand how this would work, surely you're going to end up stuck in a cycle where you HAVE to sooth the child to sleep every time? If the baby never learns to comfort themselves they won't learn to sleep on their own. I'm sure some parents can accept that, but it seems like an incredibly stressful thing for the parents to go through, especially if they have to get up for work. The knock on effect of tired stressed parents will surely be a less happy baby? I don't agree with CIO or Ferber, but this seems way too far the opposite way. A little bit of crying with comfort and support from parents won't do the baby any harm (they cry plenty in other situations!) and IMO will lead to a baby who can put themselves to sleep (so mum and dad can sleep!)

Yes. I have worked as a night nanny and infant daycare teacher. I roughly use this to work with babies. The hardest is when the mom contact naps (baby sleeps upright-ish on her) for her maternity leave then tries to train the baby. Two steps: Step 1 train them to sleep on their back in a crib or bassinet and be laid down without crying. Step 2, start holding off a response to see if they cry harder and louder and their sleeps will grow longer. Ideally, someone sleeps in the room with them until 5 or 6, maybe 7 months, but it might make more sense to put them in their crib from the start and have someone in that room with them on a mattress or actual bed as opposed to putting the baby in the parents room. Also, then the off duty parent has a better chance of sleeping. My last newborn nanny job, grandma was on duty one of the nights I didn't work. You can hire a night nanny for one or two of the nights to make sure the parents can get better sleep (if you can afford it).

What about breastfeeding? Should the baby be fed to sleep? My 4 month-old baby only sleeps after breastfeeding. Any tip on how do I get her to sleep on her own??? 😞

Feed when baby wakes up. Do the Eat play sleep routine.

I know your child isn't so young anymore. But, my opinion/experience is to feed the baby very well an hour or so before you put her to sleep. Make nursing the first item in the routine. That way, baby won't fall asleep while nursing, and she won't be hungry when it's time for bed. With my baby, holding his upper body close to my chest and gently shaking his lower body makes him close to sleep. Then I put him down with his lovey. He will turn to his side, hug his lovey and slowly fall asleep.
It will all go smoothly only after some practice... only when the baby gets used to the routine. My baby is 5 months and the routine now works like magic as long as I don't delay his bed time. But if for some reason I cannot prepare him for bed before he's very tired/sleepy, he might cry very badly for over 30 mins, play for another hour...have another nursing...it will be way past his bed time on those days.
I think partly the baby gets to choose the bedtime. My aim was to put him down by 8:00 pm or 7:30 the earliest. But after some experience I realised that he is ready for his night sleep by 6:00 pm. Once I made 6:00 his bedtime, things have become much easier. I think being attentive to your child's cues help massively in having a peaceful baby.
Unfortunately 6:00 pm is just way too early for me to consistently keep the bedtime. So it isn't that rare to have a screaming baby in my arms by 7:00 pm.

This isn‘t sleep training but rocking your baby to sleep. Love it because its easy but your baby expects you to rock her to sleep every time she wakes up during the night because she cant fall asleep on her own… So doesn‘t really solve the issue 😅

Not a good idea to rock a baby to sleep or go get them every time they cry. At that point the child is training you!

With the inevitable horrors that climate change will soon bring, today's babies can only look forward to a bleak future of existential fear and sleepless nights, so let the poor things cry.
It truly beggars belief that anyone would bring a new life onto an overcrowded and dying planet to satisfy their own selfish needs. So incredibly thoughtless and inconsiderate.

    • @FacediGu
      @FacediGu ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@agp1209 Goodness me!, why would I want to do that? I am an antinatalist environmental scientist who has recently (and strategically) gone into teaching. I don't waste my time fruitlessly espousing my beliefs in public - influencing young minds is the way to go! There is enormous satisfaction to be had in promulgating one's agenda through something as innocent as 'text analysis' and hypothetical thought exercises, and I am happy to report that my efforts, so far, have been quite successful.
Don't get me wrong. I like kids, but I believe it is morally wrong - and just plain cruel - to bring a new life into an increasingly hostile world where more people will be competing for fewer resources. History has shown that human nature does not rise to the occasion under such circumstances, it just becomes more selfish and venal. Though it may be contrary to popular thinking, I feel my stance is a compassionate one.

@FacediGu So we should let humans die out? Or only certain people can have children to ensure human survival?
Also since life is so horrible would you consider just ending it or God forbid, is life amazing despite the horrors it also contains.
