  • Litter-Robot’s yellow light flashing quickly? If you followed • Checking For A Pinch D... or • Troubleshooting the Qu... troubleshooting steps and have identified a pinch sensor fault, this guide will help you repair your Litter-Robot 3 with simple steps.
If you need to replace the pinch detect terminals on your Litter-Robot and the unit is out of warranty, the process is simple and quick. For those who are the least bit handy, the job can be completed in a matter of minutes.
    Tools needed:
    - A Phillips-head screwdriver
    - A screwdriver with a small, flathead
    - A pair of needle-nose pliers.
If you are under warranty, you can access replacement parts at no cost. Order a one-time replacement from your account.
    Pinch detect replacement steps:
First, you will need to remove the bottom of the base. Simply flip the base over and unscrew its nine screws. Lift it off gently, because it is still connected by a wire, and set it aside.
Now, use your needle-nose plier to disconnect the two black wires from the pinch terminals. Then, gently grasp each of the pinch contacts with your pliers. Wiggle and lift each one out of the assembly.
To install your new, replacement pinch contacts, simply reverse the procedure. Start with the top pinch contact. Use your small-blade, flat-head screwdriver to help position each contact properly. Make sure each one is completely seated in its slot. When you’re finished, check to see that the metal pieces touch each other.
Next, reattach the black wires. They are interchangeable, so it doesn’t matter in which order you do this. Gently press on them and make sure they are fully inserted.
Get the bottom, put it back on and tighten the nine screws. You’re in business.

I love how this guy makes it so simple to disconnect all of the screws. It’s NOT that easy. You need a 50 inch screw driver just to unscrew the damn thing.

He wasn’t removing any screws. His screwdriver was not magnetic and had NO screw and his hand was empty. Every time he lifted it out of an apparent screw hole.

It actually was very easy! Just need a long handled screwdriver. It only takes a few turns to get the unfastened. Then when you separate the two pieces and turn it over, they all fell out. Mine didn't come out on my screwdriver, as it's not magnetic. Maybe you should actually do it before picking apart an extremely informative and helpful tutorial!

Just a heads up for people attempting this....make sure you have a fairly long Phillips head screwdriver for some of the screws. I didn’t have any screw drivers at the house that would work, so had to purchase that.

Thanks for the video -- The repair is straightforward and relatively quick. I recommend doing the disassembly outside on an old towel or drop cloth so parts aren't scratched or lost. Having a vacuum cleaner nearby is handy.
A long screwdriver is required, and magnetizing the tip of the screwdriver with a magnet first helps to pull the screws up out of the long recess. Nice feature: All the screws appear to be the same size and length.
I reused my old clips -- they appear to be stainless steel and polished up nicely w/ 320 grit sandpaper and contact cleaner on a cotton swab. Even if reusing your old clips, you'll need to remove them to polish and clean them effectively -- but work carefully to minimize wear of the plastic detents that hold the contacts in place.

Had the pinch sensor replaced twice. The problem is that it is made of cheap steel and not stainless steel and it gets rusty and the contacts will not touch. Removing it and immersing it in vinegar for a few hours will do the trick, but it is inexcusable for such an expensive machine.

With the sensor and pinch-detect terminals being common issues for all of us, why doesn't LR design this better? A design fix would be much cheaper than the constant warranty work.

It is actually a very helpful and informative tutorial. I've had my unit for many years. Actually been pretty lazy and have only deep cleaned it a couple of times. The only issue I've had with my 3 with wifi unit was when they changed the app platform to Whiskers. Finally caved and called the support line and it was back up and running again in no time! They had to remove my unit on the system and then I just had to delete the app and reinstall the app and enter my info. Wish I would have just called instead of trying to figure it out myself as it was very frustrating.
But the pinch point video is very easy to follow, & an easy fix! I'm thankful for them..even tho you can send it in for repair, I'd rather be able to do stuff like this myself than to be without my Litter Robot for the turn around time.

All 3 of my LR Air had corroded pinch terminals. For the price, this should not happen at the 20 month mark of use. Make them out of stainless steel & if they are maybe use a better grade. Thank you for this video- I was successful in replacing my own pinch sensors by following it ...but it was not an easy job. I had given up on my Litter Robot 3 and was about to throw it out the window... this was my last ditch effort to make it work again.
I paid $5 for the parts and $10 for shipping (on a one ounce item), and it took about two weeks to arrive. You absolutely do need a LONG Phillips head screwdriver (like 6"+) or you won't be able to remove the screws. I also used a magnet to magnetize the head so I could pull out the screws. Once I was able to access the old metal pinch detector pieces, I found that they were rusted through and fell apart when I removed them. Whyyyy aren't these made of stainless steel? That would completely solve this design flaw.
Though I am very grateful for the video, as it seems to be the only of its kind, it would have been helpful to have a better camera angle for much of the footage. Many times his hands are blocking the work he's doing... but I managed to figure it out. The whole replacement took about 45 minutes.
Lastly, after spending $600 on a litter box, it just irks me that this design isn't better. Why do I have to spend my Sunday afternoon with my head inside of a stinky poop box fixing it, Whisker Company? This is a known issue and I hope you read these comments and feel the frustration of your customers and correct the design.
All that said, best of luck to all who attempt this repair! It is not easy and you may get frustrated, but YOU CAN DEFINITELY DO IT IF I DID ha ha!

shipping the replacement parts for free is awesome, maybe include like a metal file with the liter robot and an annual cleaning video/tutorial kinda deal that include touching up the metal pinch detect. My significant other was just about to buy a whole new base because of the quick blinking yellow light and the corosion between the 2 that was easily fixed with a metal file. caveat~This is the first issue we've had with the liter robot and we've had our liter robot for over 3 years and love it

It’s days you need an 8in screw driver before you even start & for those complaining about having to replace a part on such an expensive item, what exactly do you do when your car needs something, or your refrigerator needs a new water filter? This has been a known issue and showing a technical video to a lay person on how to fix it is ludicrous. You guys need to make this right. An average user like myself paying 700 plus dollars because I bought the litter not, the add on kit, the wooden housing cabinet & extended warranty SHOULD NOT have to deal with this. I’m 56 years old and this isn’t my forte nor should it have to be. I bought this to make my life easier not harder. My LR2 works 50% of the time if that. I’m angrier watching this because I SHOULD NOT have to do this. You need to offer existing customers 50% off to buy the upgraded units when a major issue like this is known to be problematic. That’s what recalls are for. I got a full year use out it before it stopped working properly. 50% off is more than reasonable. Not sure now if I have version 2 or 3. I bought it in 2017 or 2018.

@@LitterRobot I bought the extended warranty but the time expired. It was sporadic at first then became problematic. I reached out but the solution or troubleshooting was problematic as I wasn’t able to see where to reset the sensors. The name on the account is Terri Boyd, Dallas TX. I adjusted the bag install which is odd because I’d been installing them the same way since purchase, but now it wouldn’t cycle unless the bag was not peeking up or over the tray. Since doing that it got better, back to less consistent but still problematic. I end up turning it off and back on again. It cycles about 3 times before it decides to stop. The tray isn’t full. My cat lets me know if it doesn’t rotate to clean which is hilarious. At that point I turn it off and on hit reset and it works again. I do this after it cycles 3-4 times. It would be nice if you guys just fix the issue and allow those that have struggled a reasonable discount on a replacement. I will never be able to do surgery on the box and purchased it hoping it wouldn’t need that sort of thing. Thank you for responding.

@@LitterRobot I don’t expect it to last a lifetime like I’m sure some do, but it’s not unreasonable to expect 7 years of worry free use. I can understand after 7 years it may need maintenance and people that are able to do that would get a longer life cycle out of it.

I'm having this issue. The light flashes really fast(the pinch sensors).. we've had our LR3 Connect Abt 6 months.. tbh I have always noticed the "slight wobble" but I thought the kids knocked it over sideways with the french doors it sits next to and it messed it up, but maybe not... The pinch detect error just started last week. I constantly get the sensor trip like a cat got in while cycling.
I just took an old toothbrush and brushed the contacts off for tonight.
I figured the rest is tomorrow's problem in the light of day..- have an old house, no ceiling lights, only lamps.
The plastic piece above the circuit board on the Left side(from top view of drawer holder) seems like it was attached by a little piece of plastic that looks broken maybe.. if I could take a picture to show and ask, I would.. my metal pieces don't look rusted, just kinda dusty/dirty so I wonder if the plastic piece has anything to do with it or the wobble..

I don't suppose you have a suggestion for an issue of the robot being stuck on an orange/yellow unblinking light, not responding to anything (even the power button)?
I've tried the hard reset, dismantling and putting back together the CPU. The bottom sensors appear to be fine. I've cleaned it well.
Unfortunately I brought mine 11 months ago from a UK former international partner of Litter Robot and the company went bust a few months ago. I even brought 18 month extended warranty, but the company are uncontactable and I'm stuck with a broken robot 😞
I've tried waiting in the queue to speak with litter robot in the US but the international calls have already cost be a fortune!
Sorry for the ramble, I'm a bit stuck!

    • @LitterRobot
      @LitterRobot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

We're so sorry you're having issues with your unit! When the yellow light is flashing once per second, it will mean one of two things: (1) The cycle was interrupted by the cat sensor. If the cat sensor is activated while the unit is cycling, it will stop. Fifteen seconds after your cat has left the globe, the unit will resume cycling. (2) The bonnet has been removed. If the bonnet is removed while the globe is in the Home position or during a cycle, the unit will stop. Five seconds after replacing the bonnet, the unit will resume its previous function.
When the yellow light is flashing twice per second, it means the cycle was interrupted by the anti-pinch feature. If the anti-pinch safety feature is activated while cycling, the globe will reverse direction for two seconds, then stop. The yellow light will flash for one minute. Then, the globe will attempt to rotate toward the Home position again.

      @beandon24 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@LitterRobot This is a very unhelpful answer that does not address the OPs problem. The light is NOT flashing, it is solid yellow and unresponsive to anything (including power button).
I have had the same problem for several weeks now. It started with the pinch detector, so we turned the robot off while we waited on the replacement part. But, since we turned it back on (before replacing pinch detector) the yellow light just stayed on and was unresponsive to any button presses. Unplugging/replugging makes no difference. Pinch detectors have now been replaced and entire unit has been cleaned thoroughly, and still just stuck on a solid yellow light (no flashing) and unresponsive to anything.
      How can this be fixed?

Its amazing how many people bitch about how difficult of a repair this is. While i agree the design is not ideal. This isnt rocket science. Im willing to bet most who complain are great at cooking, sewing or repairing, ironing, tailoring, cleaning things around the house. This repair is NOT complicated at all. It may look intimidating but its only a few screws. Its not difficult using a screw driver is it? (Yes you might need a long one). And taking off the wires is super easy (you dont even need the needle nose pliers but it helps). Again, not that hard compared to other things you already do

I was watching this video and I’m not seeing where he’s taking any screws out of the holes that he is supposedly unscrewing and if I pay this much for a litter box better know that they’re going to send me a new one. Ridiculous.

This product is a complete joke. The amount of tinkering with this thing to prevent it from hanging up mid cycle is more work than actually scooping litter manually from a $10 litter box.
You guys bought a patent from a competitor of a much superior design to this and have done nothing with it. Why?! I hope China knocks it off and makes a product that actually is reliable.
The LRIII is solely responsible for my cat's chronic constipation due to the unreliability of the unit. The constipation has advanced to obstipation, which has permanently damaged his health.

I really hate my litter robot 3, I have had it since 2019, it was good at first and than it’s all problems, stopping mid cycle taking forever to finish cycling, the globe does this noise as if it’s not attached properly which it is I checked multiple times, horrible and flawed. You should offer independent contractors to fix it. I wouldn’t even feel comfortable with doing anything. This sucks I’m so disappointed I want to cry bc it was literally $750CDN. Price would be okay if it worked for a long time say 5 years, but after the first year it was hell! And why is it even corroded, I feel like companies now a days make thing out their bum so we can spend more on their parts and what not. I wanna rip my hair out. And don’t get me started on the dumb design of the waste litter. Who even came up with this! I was going to upgrade to LR4 but that one is even flawed 🤦🏻‍♀️

Worst purchase I've made in the last year. Turns out the model that our friends love was an older model and this new one is a pile of crap. I used to be a car mechanic and a nuclear weapons technician and after 30 minutes of yelling, 4 broken fingernails and severely bleeding from several spots on my right hand, I gave up. It should not be this hard. I can't, not recommend this enough. It seemed easy enough in this video, but this guy probably designed this hunk of junk and purposely made it look easy and this one is new, he's not working on one that's covered in waste and litter. How is this thing designed so poorly that it is so easily broken and so difficult to fix. You know what's not hard to fix?...a 10 dollar litterbox with zero moving parts.

Ridiculous 😡 had to change this twice now, £580 littler box and you cheap out on two pieces of small metal? Why couldn't you make it stainless steel parts so they don't go rusty every 6-12 months.
Shocking 🤯 for the price customer have paid it's shameful really!
This is a yearly repair. The environment is full of moisture, yet no stainless steel parts 🤦🏻
If you do this repair you will see how rusty they are after just 6 months.

You need to make sure to clean it after every time it's used, specially the urin. With a urin removing solution like 1 part bleach mixed with 6 parts water. If you do not clean the cats will start peeing in the house. Because they will not want to use a litter box with urin odor.

We have NEVER gone away and depended on the Litter Robot solely, because sadly it is NOT dependable in that way!

We have two Litter Robots and have been using them almost since they release them (not first edition)... But we see they are NOT reliable for away time...

We always leave extra manual litter boxes because it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove cat urine from anything completely...So...

Relying just on LR means huge expense taking out carpet, furniture, bedding, whatever a pissed-off cat decides to choose, to leave his/her message for selfish owners who left them with a shitty shitting spot! 🙃😳. Just Don’t Do It! Back-Up litter boxes, you know the simple $20 plastic ones! Argh!

This is an extremely poorly designed product. It is typically equivalent to a $5 plastic tub that you scoop manually, but a plastic tub never gets stuck upside down.
Dont let their youtube account fool you. Their customer support is terrible. They refuse to offer any support whatsoever and eventually they just blow you off.
