This is probably one of the most useful reviews I have come across. It made my choise easy. Thank you for making the effort and for being clear. I will buy my Momentum Headphone tomorrow. And - keep up the happy shirt theme. I love it!
I watched a few of your reviews on different headphones and found them very helpful and balanced. You definitely provide a better description of materials and technical details than most big review sites out there. You add some down to earth yet clearly audiophile findings, which I highly apprechiate. Thank you very much for your efforts!
Tyler, I just wanted to take a second to personally thank you for all the amazing reviews you do on audiophile (and not so audiophile) headphones. Your reviews have influenced many of my purchases, and I always seem to agree with your impression on everything. You have been and are doing the audiophile community a great service. Thanks!
Hey Tyll, after reading some reviews of these, I decided to check you review (I own the Momentum). And YOU exactly said what I had in mind (pros and cons). Acutally, I'm following you since about 3 years now and you haven't changed since then. Honnest review, honnest guy, nice work!
I have been looking for so many reviews on youtube to find the perfect headphone for me....spent hours and hours....and finally found you :)...thanks for your energy...your so professional reviews....thank you I finally found what I was looking for :)..
dear inner fidelity, been really enjoying your videos. please review the sennheiser momentum 2.0 (M2) over ear headphones. I'm curious how they compare to these and if they are improved while maintaining the wonderful balance you speak of. Hope you can do that soon. Thank You
I figured you would say that. The thing is that I wanted the crossfade Lp2s, and the m-100 is out of my budget. But both are bass emphasized. So I then wanted the M-80. But After seeing the review on the UE 6000, I'm now on the fence. But I have needed that answer for a while for thank you very much! Love your channel and reviews. Keep up the good work.
While I’m waiting for my HD 6xx, I gave the Momentum and the Sony Wh-1000Xm3 a side-by-side listen. And oh man, the momentum just sounded so much more clearer and crisper. Instrument separation was fantastic. The vocals were amazing. And the mid range was fantastic. Really going to miss these.
I LOVE your reviews! This is what you want, people, an experienced technician/enthusiasts reviewing a product who has actual experience, and knows what the fuck he's talking about. On an off note, will you please do a video of the HD 650? Keep up the great work.
hello, first of all I have to say that I appreciate a lot your clear, detailed and informative reviews. Also your American English accent is well spoken and perfectly understandable to a British English accent accustomed person like myself. I would really like if you could review the new Sennheiser HD8 DJ, I intend to buy a new headset and my choice would probably be among Pioneer HDJ 2000, AKG 267 TIESTO or these new HD8. As a dj I play anything from drum&bass to nu jazz, so above all I value quality of sound and comfort for those long sessions in the studio. Thank you very much for your opinion. (btw... nice shirts...)
I'm actually interested in reviewing gaming headphone but have some technical issues measuring them. So, I will do gaming cans sometime in the future, but it will take some work setting up for measurements and I have other measurement projects in development, so it won't happen for quite a while.
Although I didn't mind the color, when it comes to providing cases oppose to bags, it seems something new for Sennheiser. Being reputable as they are, you'd think they would try to compete with the likes of say a V-Moda contoured case. It does show some light with them at least trying to provide a case and extra cable because another thing that can be upsetting is that you can't purchase an extended cable with them; which is extremely important for a dj who is constantly moving in performances.
Hi, thanks for this review. I am thinking about getting these, or the Phillips l1 which you also reviewed. Tough choice. Anyways, appreciate your work. PS...for an audio guy, you might consider improving your mic setup, there is a bit of a hiss! Still, thanks for the review!
I just got the Momentum's in the new retro ivory/tan finish...and I must say that I am LOVING them. I was upgrading from Klipsch S4 earbuds (which I also liked but had seriously build quality issues). The soundstage is pretty wide, and the sound is clear and detailed. The ear cups fit me just fine, and this finish looks sexy as hell!
The Soundstage seems wider, and I can hear details I couldn't hear with the Klipsch ( which honestly surprised me!). The bass is on par with the Klipsch, but on really bass heavy tracks the Momentums low end sound a tad less muddy. Its been a month and I am still loving the Sennheisers like you wouldn't believe! I've been re-ripping loads of cds to flac just to get the best quality possible and it's like total ear-candy! Mine came with a 30 day money back guarantee. Needless to say I will NOT be taking advantage of that. :-)
gaffawebber haha I have had the klipsch s4's for a couple of years, and I am considering upgrading to the momentums also. I would get something like the sennheiser hd 598, but I am really looking for something that has a substantial amount of bass that isn't overpowering. Do you think they are a good enough uprade from the s4's? I am really looking for headphones that have a good soundstage and have substantial umph in the bass at the same time.
with a review like this, how can you go past these headphones? i'm considering these and focl spirit one, and spirit classic. if these headphones were to go into an amp, or tube amp, would the performance scale up with source?
Hey i've got a question: which one of the momentums (on ear 1 & 2, over ear 1 & 2) has the most bass? i need a bass like the bass of mixrs (i had them and loved the bass)
I just won a bid on these headphones on eBay tonight. All paid for and now just waiting for the seller to send them off. Got them real cheap, even compared to the price of the new Momentum 2.0’s at $299 AUS. Unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to hear them because no shop near me have these on display to sound test and don’t know anyone who has these cans, so I’m hoping they do not disappoint. However I don’t think I have heard many headphones in this price range before besides the Bose active noise cancelling headphones which sounded pretty darn good. I’m not into mind blowing bass as much as I used to be, I prefer to listen to my music as close to how the artist intended you to hear it, so hopefully I can achieve that with these Sennheiser’s! :-)
I'm not sure the Sennheiser Momentum deserved to be removed from the Wall of Fame by the NAD Viso HP50. While I'm sure the NAD sounds amazing I'm just not sold on the apparent looks/comfort/durability enough to try them out. The Momentum is far more elegant, comfortable for most (unless you have huge ears), and sound "spectacular." I think a Momentum revision with bigger cups and more durable cables would create my perfect closed cup headphone. In fact I ordered the black version up based on your review here.
Well...I switch it up a lot because I have to use the cans I'm reviewing, so I really don't have a headphone I use personally. But I know what you mean and I'd say the answer is: B&W P5, they're just cool; Jerry Harvey Audio JH13 Freqphase, awesome sound and isolation for planes; HD 800, if you want to hear every last detail; Audeze LCD-3 (and LCD-2) killer bass and fun to hear; and yes, I think the Momentum will be a go-to headphone for me around the house.
Hey, I want t o really choose between momentum on ear and Urbanite on ear. I listen to psychdelic rock, classical rock, Jazz, instrumental, no hip hop or rap. Which will sound better? Urbanite seems to have better isolation , portability though
Very nice review, thanks! I'd like to know though: what kind of music did you throw at them and how do they perform when listening to heavy metal music like Iron Maiden?
Hi Tyll! Great review. I love the sound of the D2000 but hate the lack of portability. I use them at home, on a noisy walking commute through downtown Chicago and in a quiet office. With that in mind would you recommend the Momentums, the M-100s or the UE6000s? Thanks in advance!
Most headphone featuring removable cables accept 3.5mm jack. So you could use the 3 button control cable on these too. V-Moda M80, Noontec Zoro, Audio Technica Pro500MK2/Pro700MK2, AKG Q701, the new ranges of Denon headphones all feature removable cable and they are all 3.5mm jack. So these Momentum would work fine with the cable that you like.
Hi Tyler thanks for all your rewiews should i buy the momentum or the amperior ?? or maybe the Audio Technica m 50 ? thanks continue doing such magnificent rewiews
I used to have Bose AE2s but they are now broken. I liked the acoustic type sound but the newer Bose and a lot of modern headphones have too much bass and I'm looking for less bass and more all-round sound. Can anyone recommend something similar to Bose AE2?
Hello, How do they compare to the Sennheiser HD25-SP II? They are both well balanced, so if they sound the same I would go for those (they just look better).
Hi Tyll, Firstly, let me introduce myself as a big fan & follower of your reviews, although I'm not an audiophile by any means. But just joined Head-fi recently, and want to take my headphone listening outdoors (on a budget too!), for which my Sennheiser HD 558's aren't made, as you know. So came across positive reviews of the new Philips Citiscape Uptown recently, and would request you to do a review on those if possible, and a comparison with the similar range; maybe the Sony MDR ZX700.
Great reviews! Thanx. Im having a hard times deciding between these and the mdr1. My ears and head are not small:) so i think the mdrs are better for me in that area.. I listen to alot of electronica and house and like bass.. not too much, but more than akg 551 to make an example. I own denon 1001 now and those are great but now very old so need new ones. My question is...Do the mdr1 have enough bass for my music?Do they sound warm and open?
Great review ;), im looking to get a new pair of headphones, i have the Harman Kardon CL, and im looking for a $300 to $350 pair of headphones, do you recommend these Sennheiser Momentums?, or something else, i mostly listen to rap, so i do want a nice bass representation just not to boomy. Thanks
Would you say these are a better choice portably than the Beyerdynamic DT 1350? Do they sound better enough to compensate for the fact that the DT 1350 is easier for transport and better at isolation?
Fantastic review. Tyll is the one I trust. I love my Sennheiser px 100ii, but i found my hd 650 boring. As a small closed headphone which one will suits me better: V-moda m80 or Noontec Zoro? Thanks:)
I'll be doing a 600 review very soon. Go to Mix magazine's website and search for "HD 600", they have an article about mixing with HD 600s. I like them quite a bit.
Hi all just after some help I already own the bose qc3 but I'm after some new headphones I've just bought some akg 495 and thought they were terrible so took them back does anybody have any recommendation thanks
I am not sure if i want these or the AKG Q701. I would only use them at home with my Pc listening to music and watching movies. Or is there a better alternative?
One Question: Which In-Ears are better all in all and which are better in the bass (heavier,deeper,...) ? Shure Se215 or the Shure Se315 ? Thank you for the Answer!
So these headphones will give you the true Natural sound of the Music that you are listening to? I am looking for something without the overexposed base. Something that just Plays the song as it is supposed to sound like. Also, do they Block any noise With the padding?
Tyll, you should get your hands on the KEF M500! Until I got those, the Momentum was the best portable headphone I'd heard and I agree with your description of the sound. But the M500 just trumps it! It's not a close call actually, the KEF is clearly a more open, refined and neutral headphone. Not harsh or bright, just very clean and natural.
Yeah I am. But I will be even more happy when I get my Shure SRH840 earpads for the M50 because the m50 earpads are kind of hard. Hopefully the new pads are more comfortable. The M50 is really a great pair. If I were you I would also take a look at the Philips Citiscape Uptown. I heard they sound extremely good. I have ordered them to try it out.
I currently own a HD25-I-ii and I've been spending a lot of time researching on something new, because I can't stand the sibilance of the HD25. I've mirrored my pick down to MDR-1R and the MOMENTUM (other factors have played their rolls too). My question that I still haven't really found is this: -Bass comparison between MDR-1R and Momentum -Sibilance/sharpness of the MDR-1R vs Momentum The biggest deciding factor is sibilance, the HD25 was, imo, full of it. Any help? :D
Hi Tyler. I'm considering getting the Sennheiser HD 600 primarily for mixing and mastering and secondarily for listening pleasure. I've looked through your videos and i don't think you have done a review on those headphones yet and if you have i apologize in advance. Is there any chance of you doing a review of those or any other recommendations you can make that are better than these headphones at the same price range?
I second the request for some "gaming" headset reviews. It would be great to get the opinion of someone with as much experience with the range of headphones you have.
had the same problem a couple of months ago, but i went with the 550's I really am happy with my 550's since i got them for a reallly good price. I use my phones for listening at home or while recording/producing But i think the momentums probably are better for wearing to school and such, since they have microphones and removable (cords?) happy to answer any questions you have about the 550's though :)
I just ordered them, getting them in a few days...how do you feel about them? Is it what you expected? I've heard them in the store and loved them, but its hard to get the full impact in a few minutes. How are they after listening to them for a while? thanks, anyone else wanna comment on this, please do
bought mine after watching this review in 2013, still sounds great after 100's of hours of listening. We miss you Tyll

I have been looking for so many reviews on youtube to find the perfect headphone for me....spent hours and hours....and finally found you :)...thanks for your energy...your so professional reviews....thank you I finally found what I was looking for :)..
Thank you for the response and the mix magazine info, it cleared up a few clouds. I'll be looking forward to your review.
dear inner fidelity, been really enjoying your videos. please review the sennheiser momentum 2.0 (M2) over ear headphones. I'm curious how they compare to these and if they are improved while maintaining the wonderful balance you speak of. Hope you can do that soon. Thank You
Picked up the black/ red pair the other day and am amazed at how good they sound
Thanks for the informative review! Bought these and they're probably the best headphones I've ever owned.
I think the brown case looks really cool. Looking forward to you review the new denons.
I figured you would say that. The thing is that I wanted the crossfade Lp2s, and the m-100 is out of my budget. But both are bass emphasized. So I then wanted the M-80. Always find your reviews enjoyable, what would your best budget choice be for fast low extended bass as the primary need?
Thanks for the review. I bought a pair and haven't regretted the purchase.
Good to hear, I've been wanting them, but I got a good deal on some TF10s, the momentums are my next purchase

awesome shirt dude
I really like the cream/brown colour alternative, I find it refreshing change.
I have ordered the black/red version :)
Can't wait!
Thanks for the informative review.
Hi there, how do these compare with in terms of audio quality with the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless version? Thanks!
Hi, thanks for this review. I am thinking about getting these, or the Phillips l1 which you also reviewed. Tough choice. Anyways, appreciate your work. PS...for an audio guy, you might consider improving your mic setup, there is a bit of a hiss! Still, thanks for the review!
Hi,
just wondering how this momentum compares to Sennheiser HD598?? your reply is much appreciated. Thanks
An excellent review, as always. Still one of the best portable cans are B&W P5.
Thanks for the review Tyll.
I really like your detailed reviews of headphones and I would like to see you review Sennheiser HD598 and maybe some Grados? (Grado SR60 and SR80i).
I just got the Momentum's in the new retro ivory/tan finish...and I must say that I am LOVING them. Very nice review, thanks! I'd like to know though: what kind of music did you throw at them and how do they perform when listening to heavy metal music like Iron Maiden?
you can get replacement cables from amazon
A clear and informative review - thank you. Do u have any experience of the PSB M4U 2? If so how do these compare sound wise?
Hi Tyll! Great review. I love the sound of the D2000 but hate the lack of portability. I use them at home, on a noisy walking commute through downtown Chicago and in a quiet office. With that in mind would you recommend the Momentums, the M-100s or the UE6000s? Thanks in advance!

Hi i was wondering with the cable connection to the headphones do you think a 3.5mm to 2.5 adapter would work on this product ?
perfect
just the video i was hoping to find
I used to have Bose AE2s but they are now broken. I liked the acoustic type sound but the newer Bose and a lot of modern headphones have too much bass and I'm looking for less bass and more all-round sound. Can anyone recommend something similar to Bose AE2?
I understand these headphones are low impedance. An RME Babyface with 30 Ohms output impedance would be suited to drive these?
So an aftermarket cable cant be used? why? anyone know?
Thank you
Hello,
How do they compare to the Sennheiser HD25-SP II? They are both well balanced, so if they sound the same I would go for those (they just look better).
Great review. Couple of questions, are they better than the p5 and are they suitable for hip hop and rap music?
Thanks for the review. Are the similar or comparable to any other Sennheiser cans?
Hi Tyll,
Firstly, let me introduce myself as a big fan & follower of your reviews, although I'm not an audiophile by any means.
Sennheiser Momentum vs MDR-1A, which 1 is better?
Yeah, still getting the new camera figured out. It's not as wide angle as the old one.
What should I get Momentum or Amperior?
Hi there, have you tried B&O H2? I am deciding between Momentums and B&O H2. Thank you.
the noise floor in this video is quite high lol. anyway nice review, these don't look so good in picture but looks gorgeous in actual person
Hi. They look really nice. Are they better sounding or equal in comparison to the hd-25?
Yes. But you might prefer the V-Moda M-100 for that kind of music.
Thanks
I'll try to get ahold of them.
Would you say these are a better choice portably than the Beyerdynamic DT 1350? Do they sound better enough to compensate for the fact that the DT 1350 is easier for transport and better at isolation?
will using a amp benefit much from these headphones? since they work well with mp3 players etc i thought an amp wouldnt be much good
Fantastic review. Tyll is the one I trust. I love my Sennheiser px 100ii, but i found my hd 650 boring. As a small closed headphone which one will suits me better: V-moda m80 or Noontec Zoro? Thanks:)
What would be a reasonable portable dac for these? I plan to use them with my iPhone.
Yes, but I'd recommend the M-100 for EDM as well. It's a morebass heavy headphone and not neutral, but it's fun as hell.
Thanks, happy to help.
One Question: Which In-Ears are better all in all and which are better in the bass (heavier,deeper,...) ? Shure Se215 or the Shure Se315 ?
Thank you for the Answer!
Will they fit big ears well?
more depth and controlled bass would of made these perfect(on ear)
would these momentums be good for rap hip hop. techno.?
So these headphones will give you the true Natural sound of the Music that you are listening to? I am looking for something without the overexposed base. Something that just Plays the song as it is supposed to sound like. Also, do they Block any noise With the padding?
Focal spirit Pro vs momentums 1/2 ?
Tyll, you should get your hands on the KEF M500! Until I got those, the Momentum was the best portable headphone I'd heard and I agree with your description of the sound. But the M500 just trumps it! It's not a close call actually, the KEF is clearly a more open, refined and neutral headphone. Not harsh or bright, just very clean and natural.
What if i like all types of electronic music, do u think momentums would b a good choice??
My question that I still haven't really found is this:
-Bass comparison between MDR-1R and Momentum
-Sibilance/sharpness of the MDR-1R vs Momentum
The biggest deciding factor is sibilance, the HD25 was, imo, full of it.
Any help? :D
Hi Tyler. I'm considering getting the Sennheiser HD 600 primarily for mixing and mastering and secondarily for listening pleasure. I've looked through your videos and i don't think you have done a review on those headphones yet and if you have i apologize in advance. Is there any chance of you doing a review of those or any other recommendations you can make that are better than these headphones at the same price range?
for rock music, modern/alternative rock music wise, is the momentum better, or the m100s?
I second the request for some "gaming" headset reviews. It would be great to get the opinion of someone with as much experience with the range of headphones you have.
So the sound quality is better?
had the same problem a couple of months ago, but i went with the 550's
I really am happy with my 550's since i got them for a reallly good price.
I use my phones for listening at home or while recording/producing
But i think the momentums probably are better for wearing to school and such, since they have microphones and removable (cords?)
happy to answer any questions you have about the 550's though :)
These are suspiciously similar in design, sound, and quality to the Phillips cityscape Uptown.. What do you think?
Thanks! I'm gonna buy them soon :)
I just ordered them, getting them in a few days...how do you feel about them? Is it what you expected?
I've heard them in the store and loved them, but its hard to get the full impact in a few minutes. How are they after listening to them for a while?
thanks, anyone else wanna comment on this, please do
which ones you would like more, HD 650 or Momentum?
I am thinking between these and M50 . Are u happy with your m50?
which headphone do you recommend and which is better? the p5's or the sennheiser momentum?
