    Great video. This was a great invention by somebody. Between an out of plumb rough opening and the cheap hollow core door frames they sell, it's nice to have something easy and strong.

    These look great. Basically a leveling system to make it a lot easier if you're on your own. Easily worth $5 IMO. You can always shim for adjustments or to strengthen the door if you'd like, especially for solid core.

    EZ sent me a link to an exterior door install using the system. Apparently it still works on doors with pre-installed brick mold. For $14 you can't beat this system so I told to go ahead and ship. Thank you.

    Nice. I just used these to replace a door. The biggest challenge was how out of plumb the door frame actually was. For a hollow core interior door, they seem strong enough.

      Just used these for the first time yesterday for an exterior door. It took longer than 15 minutes. 😂
      Same problem, door frame well out of plumb. Also a very tight fit with the prehung door. But all in all the project went well and the door is securely in place. 👍

    Never use this product without shims. The door will not stay square. I just did five doors. So far I am having to remove freshly painted trim on three of them. Since three doors will not close after two weeks I will probably just do all five doors. This will probably cost more than $1000.

    • @chesslover8829
      @chesslover8829 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. These door hangers are for alignment and not for permanent door frame installation. Therefore, one must also shim the door frame to keep it from moving.

    • @skepticalobserver7484
      @skepticalobserver7484 ปีที่แล้ว

      100%. These are made to help get and keep the hinge side plumb while you’re using shims and screws to attach it to the framing. They are not meant to replace regular mounting practices.

      @Michael_Biggs_ ปีที่แล้ว

    PSA: Also ensure your frame studs aren't warped or bowed, if they are you can use a reciprocating saw to straighten things out. Had to install and remove my door a handful of times before I realized this.

    • @FarmersWife
      @FarmersWife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obviously there is no harm in putting your standard shim and screws. Originally I planned on doing that, just wanted these to help hold the door where I wanted. On some doors I have just used these hangers and foamed the gap and it holds pretty solid.

    If you're installing an exterior door I'm assuming you have to take the brick mold off, otherwise you won't be able to put the door in the opening with the clips installed. You'd need a very small right angle screwdriver to put the clips in with the door in the rough opening. I emailed CS at EZ about this.

    I have used these for over 15 doors. I like to add shims and 2” Brad nails in 3 spots on each side after using the EZ hangers. That also lets you tweak the jamb in case you have a twisted frame and the door doesn’t close well.

    • @76esashby

    Great video however i do have a question.. The easy hang 6 screws is all you need to secure the door?

    • @FarmersWife
      @FarmersWife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I depends on the door and the situation. We initially installed our interior doors with the six screws. That was sufficient for most of them, however there was 1 that the kids ran into a lot and slammed so it did move on us a little so I secured it with other screws. EZ Hang also has a kit to add more screws to the other side of the door for additional support if you want. The trim around the door would also help hold it in place, but in our home we dont have all the trim installed yet. Sorry for the long answer. Hope it helps.

    I was confused & I hang doors for a living but he kept saying reveal side? Well the reveal is around the casing (1/4” I use or an 1/8”). However I figured out he was calling the strike side the reveal ? And the hinge or butt side the weight side? Anyway I ordered them try them out! Gotta hang about 500 doors for apartments

    • @FarmersWife
      @FarmersWife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct. I use terms familiar to me maybe not the common terms in the business. The reveal side is the strike side, and the hinge is the weight side.

    • @FarmersWife
      @FarmersWife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I'm following right, these will still be helpful as they will hold the door in place. It might not be a professional opinion but seems to me you could use shims to put a slight twist in the two sides of the jambs. Remember the door trim can help cover gaps. I've seen times the walls arent plumb so you have to shave back some drywall or cut away some of the back of the trim boards.

  • @rotaxrider

    I’ll just stick with my time tested and proven technique.
    Remove doorstops and shim and screw the jamb into the jack studs while shimming and adjusting jamb margin around the whole door so it looks perfect

  • @stacyduncan7024
    @stacyduncan7024 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For doors where jams go a bit long, what is the best way to trim the jamb after installation? I assume that this will be necessary to ensure our new carpet coming can be installed correctly???

    • @FarmersWife
      @FarmersWife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I have been slow to respond. If you are installing new carpet I'm not sure I would mess with anything. Installers can/will work around jam to keep things tight. Unless you think the door itself needs raised. Do as much work before the flooring is in. It will keep things looking cleaner/finished better.

  • @IThinkICare
    @IThinkICare 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I am no expert but that door is just hanging on those screws? I think those were meant to help you level/adjust not replace shims.

    • @FarmersWife
      @FarmersWife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We were worried about that as well. So I have tested it on a few doors. Most of our interior doors we have been able to hangs with these brackets. The door in our playroom had to be secured with another screws or with the other option of brackets like our exterior doors. EZ hang also sells a kit that allows you to place brackets on both sides of the door.
