I just bought DJI Neo, the reason I choose to buy (I never bought any drone before) is purely due to the how convenience it is to use for travel that only wanted to take aerial shot. This is super important when you have young kids around and don't really want to have a controller to be able to use a drone. I want to hold my kids while taking the shot with a drone. A preprogramme shot route is what make it really quick and easy to use. I'm surprise you don't mention this demographic type of user.

I’m about to do the same. Have an Avata 2 but want this because, well it’s BADA$$ and just to “play” with, get more comfortable especially indoors, and not smack up my Avata.😆🤙🏼
I think one important thimg about this drone is, that it is affordable. I had some very cheap drones to play around with, but they were crap. I wanted to use a DJI mini or SE but for the "uses sometimes" its just to expensive (although of course I know value has its price). The neo now has a price where i can say "oh ok i could try that out"

In my opinion, the pitfalls on this drone are more apparent because DJI put specs on this a little too close to their flagship models. If it were given a more modest specs and didn’t have all the other features unlocked ( fpv) then people wouldn’t have a false expectations from it. I believe DJI purposely added all these features on the Neo to provide as gateway to the “real” thing. One thing about the Motion 3 that people forget is the headtracking. That is a cool experience to cruise around with. It also makes it intuitive and less-airsickness-inducing when letting non-FPV people try it out.
The only way to make a stick contrôler as smooth as the motion 3 is to spend 100 of hours practicing. How incredibly bias he has to be to outright shit on it!
great fast review. i am a photographer and teaching people. the oversharpening is implemented, because people like this look on their smartphone devices. it fits the screen dimensions and pixel density and the closeness eye to screen.
What about multiple Neo drones? If I have 3 going at once, will signals get crossed? And for taking pictures, what about taking it to let's say Disney and using it for quick group shots. It's not FAA required so what do you think?
2:58 woah woah woah, RC Motion 3 is a fantastic tool everyone should have in their bag, and I imagine the new Neo combo with cheaper goggles will still come with that and I 100% support it. First of all, it's insanely intuitive, I've had people aged 3-80+ who never flew a drone pick it up within 10-30 seconds and fly FPV on their own. My kid started with original Avata and original Motion Controller when he was 5 and could just barely hold FPVRC2 in his hands, but since I had FPV Goggles V2 that were too big and heavy for his head, he needed to use one hand just to hold them comfortably on his face so he only had one hand left to fly with. So yeah he first flew with the motion controller, even though he already knew how to fly acro from the simulators. It was limited at the time, but he enjoyed it and got a lot of confidence for going through gaps, getting close to people, RC cars etc. With RCM2 and now 3 you get full control in N/S modes thanks to the added mini-joystick, and you get AR cursor for menus which is something I really miss from FPVRC1 where you didn't have to lift up your hand off controls to access goggle menus, and with Avata 2 and Neo you even get EasyAcro which enables the 180 yaw drift while keeping camera pitch stable, something you can't even recreate in Manual mode. So it definitely isn't useless. Over 2 years later and now with Goggles 3 my son can use both hands to fly and he does occasionally pick up FPVRC3, but definitely still prefers RCM3. I imagine it's gonna be the same for majority of people who are not already used to standard controllers as it just feels more natural. I'd still recommend anyone serious about FPV do pick up FPVRC3, just saying don't dismiss the RCM3 like that :)
I just bought the Neo stand alone a couple of days ago, then two extra batteries and a hub today. I priced them compared with the fly more pkg. Conclusion: I returned the Neo and cancelled the extras stuff. Then purchased the Fly more package. Tax included it was only $45 more but with an RC-N3 Remote Controller.
I've seen some very good video quality out of the Neo, but you have to have a controller of some sort to access the settings. You want to use manual settings, and then some basic photography techniques. It won't do well facing the sun, for example. It won't really do well in low light. But I've seen some amazing video rivaling other, larger DJI drones.
nice work....as always the right tool for the job...most of the pitfalls are asking too much for this drone....it is meant for fun...not the work of a mavic 3 etc
In the USA it doesn't come with the RCN3 Controller. If I didn't already have, the RC2 Controller for my Mini 4 Pro & AIR 3, & Goggles 3, & Motion 3 Controller, for my Avata 2. I wouldn't have ordered it. I ordered the Neo Fly More Combo 2 days ago. I don't have the FPV RC3 Controller because, I fly my DJI FPV Drone in manual mode with the original FPV RC Controller. But I've been planning on buying the FPV RC3 controller, for my Avata 2 anyway, so I'll be ordering the FPV RC3 controller tomorrow.
I have this drone and I think your review is honest for me though I don't intend to fly manually so all the downfalls aside from the wind resistance isn't an issue for me. I guess it depends what you want it for I knew before buying it was ideal for what I needed it to do if I wanted to control manually I would of gotten one that was better for that
Very tempted to buy this, I just want a cheap beginners drone for video, as I've never had a drone before, to create some shot variety and establishing shots to mix in my edits that are predominantly shot on my sony camera. Seems like it will do the job. Perhaps the colours and quality don't match too well but its cheap and not terrible and easily upgradeable.
The drone is for vloggers, and i exactly understand why, it's a quick fly compared to the mavic. I bough this one as additional to the mavic 2 to make quick shots in moments where i lack time to do so with my mavic. since i film my work, the work goes on and sometimes i can't film. having a neo would mean it just keeps hovering, bumping arround safely while following me and eventually land with a death battery to pickup again, that's what i need. losing a 180 euro drone or a 1800 euro drone makes a big difference.
Its about time that DJI has started to expand the compatibility between its products. Many of early adopters probably have a ton of different kit that won't work across different platforms. I think its important to remember that although there is all the various options here the NEO's appeal allows an introduction into the hobby at a relatively low price and if you like it you can expand at your own pace. For owners that have other DJI products and possibly more experience it could be a bit of a novelty and also be a bit restrictive. But again for the price it could be ideal for setting up shots before launching a more expensive product. I started with a DJI flight controller and a homebuilt drone many many years ago and since then have revisited the brand with many subsequent purchases. Dji with any new product will never be able to achieve all things to all men the lists of wants and the lists of ommissions will always exist. I agree with your point about a certain degree of Bias when these items are supplied FOC which is why personally I will always try to watch content creators that have not been supplied the kit. Great review though thanks
Great video. Only reason that im not buying it is the poor video quality and no obstacle avoidance when in "follow me" mode. As a beginner, ill wait for the neo 2.
Brodie, you certainly have made one of the best unbiased video's about the new Neo. I think there will come a cheaper option from DJI for goggles for the Neo. I also think that more flexibility will be added to the standard color profile, something like D-Cinelike. For me as owner of the Mini 4 Pro and Air 3 this is a nice quick shot travel companion. Because I have the RC2 screen controller the Neo drone only with extra extra battery was the perfect choice for me. I hope to do some testing myself soon. Greeting from a new subsriber from 🇳🇱 I really like your review style👍
The sad news, is although the air2S uses the 03 transmission system, it is not compatible with Neo. It is a four year-old drone now, but it's the best camera I have of any DJI drone, and I still want to use it. It also sucks that the air 2S works with no goggles at all. Super bummer and they still sell these things for 1000 bucks on Amazon.
i'm gona buy this drone ! Beacause the camera quality of my drone is not great is just 1080P , and i want 4K drone with better FPS for only 330$ ! Thank Brodie Reed !
I think that entering into FPV via the DJI Neo Combo (and Goggles 3) is a viable route for beginners because of the option of using the controller (RC-N3 WHEN/ IF COMPATIBLE) and the Goggles 3 for other DJI drones such as the Avata 2 or the Mini Pro series (the Mini 5 Pro is said to appear soon.. 🤷🏼♂️🤫).. at a later date.
I am looking for a solution mainly for shooting my own rock videos. I play all the instruments so overlapping the footage is huge. Would you go for the NEO, some other drone, or one of the GoPro like action cams? Thank you, killer content. Infinite love & gratitude from Colorado!
A big thumbs up especially for the sharpening tip. I wish you could delve more into the video settings, comparison, like for example there is a 1080p60 mode, does it look any different or even worse etc. Anyway sharpening is one thing, but I still feel the image is overexposed somehow, any fix for that?
Only in the US. I live in the US and ordered from Amazon UK (you lose warranty coverage and whatnot but I'm not worried about that), it delivered this morning. $380usd shipped, includes transmitter and two extra batteries.
How loud is it? I have a friend that has most DJI drones and the Avata 2 is quite loud. My last DJI was a DJI Phantom 3 and I flew it just a few times. I have always wanted to get a new drone, but the price was the biggest deterrent. It is still not cheap (the Fly More Combo costs 381 euro at preorder in my country or 350 EUR on Amazon DE), but it is definitely 2 times cheaper than an Avata 2. I would casually use it when going on trips or outside.
Worth mentioning that the full idiom in pitfall #1 is "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one". That's why I bought the Neo ;)
I can’t find the fly more combo that actually includes the co troller. Only thing I see is a charger and extra batteries. I can buy the controller (not the goggles) separately so I don’t know if I am missing out on price savings or not.
Awsom review. I just brought one yesterday but didnt relise you need the goggles 3 to fpv it but at least it can be flown with out which is good. Ive watched a few reviews on it so far and yours had the most usefull info in it.
i actually enjoy the motion controller, i have no problem letting others fly FPY with that and its super easy, i got myself an FPV controller and understand the full control just cant be beat but that motion controller feels really nice to me and kinda like on Starfox 64 on 3DS, the motion helps keep steady through small gaps
This Neo is for people like me that found the Air (1) and other drones too big and too heavy to travel with. This drone is just hassle free and if it crashes, also a not too expensive thing. I have no high expectations but I DO have some real expectations: on a 120€ smartphone I can do a lot of stuff, I expect here to be able to change the color mode, RTH correctly when out of connectivity, 2.7k 60 fps and eventually a little more flight time. It’s what I need from a drone. All other drones are just too big for me. I’ll either buy this or eventually the Neo 2.
Brodie, I have a testing question for you. If you change camera settings (i.e. sharpness) while operating the Neo with a remote one day; will those settings remain in place if you then operate the Neo with only the phone app days later? I'm thinking of those days when I want to shed all the peripherals and grab just the drone.
Hi, was thinking that maybe it would be quite all right for shooting social media clips/promo clips in closed spaces like warehouses, shops etc if you already have an fpv from DJI?
Why does the fly more combo in the UK come with the remote? I didn't see it listed on the US website. I just went to the Amazon UK site and it comes with the remote. Why the difference? But it does cost more in the UK at $390 USD. But it would be nice to have the option to save a little if you want the remote.
I bought my original Mavic Pro back in 2017 to take mountain biking and skiing videos of myself, only to discover those modes are basically unusable. Will this follow me descending a tree run skiing, or through a forest on my bike? Will it avoid obstacles like a Skydio?
Hello i am an 11 year old that recently fell in love with drones recently.I have a few questions to ask you ^^ 1) Can you do fpv without the fpv headset with a phone and the controller instead ? (the one you’d get when you buy fpv only drones) 2) How much time can it fly ? and 3) Will my iphone 11 need cellular data to use it correctly ?(not on wifi completely but with the pack which has the controller)
1. You need a DJI Goggles and a DJI FPV controller. 2. I don't know 3. You don't need internet connection to control the drone. It is purely the wi-fi (radio) signal. Wi-fi is basically a radio signal/wave.
@@Dimar.Siregar thanks ! Only thing is i alr knew about the goggles and controller since when i commented this and heard about the leaks of the new cheap goggles ! How much do you think it will cost (the cheap goggles)
To me it depends if you will travel on a plane a lot with it and if you need it to work in windy conditions. For travel or activity where you can put it in a small backpack or underseat bag on a plane, seems perfect. But seems like it will be a no go in windy conditions. But as the reviewer states, it was very windy when he had issues.
I bought one primarily to fly indoors with the Avata 2 gear. Just tell me the goggles 3 will record the drones feed. It seems obvious that they would but...
Im really 50/50 about this drone. Im curious if I were to fly it over water while in my little boat while slowly moving, how do I get it back to me and hand land it if i go with the no controller option (or have i missed something?) I still use my mavic pro regularly and never felt the need to buy anything else. Where in kiwi land are you mate? From a fellow kiwi. Thanks for a great review.
I’m a bit disappointed that I can’t adjust the sharpness and noise settings without a remote controller. I specifically got the DJI Neo because I wanted to keep my setup minimal-just the drone and my smartphone when traveling or hiking. Fingers crossed they’ll add these settings to the DJI Fly app in a future (firmware) update. If the DJI Neo could also shoot in D-Log M, it would completely outshine all the other drones in its price range.
Can you turn down the sharpening in the mobile app, as in with out the extra devices, if just but it on its own can you turn down the sharpening or is that only with the fly more?
Nice review. It's always tough finding real reviews for DJI stuff, they love to flood youtubers with free units who heap praise onto everything lest they get cut off from the gravy train Funny thing is your video doesn't look half bad compared to other videos I've watched. Is most of it with the sharpening turned down? I got mine today but haven't had a chance to fire it up yet
Great video! You mention being unable to understand why DJI sent out the NEO on launch day with the sharpness turned all the way up, I was thinking about this as well. The only logical reason anyone with eyes would set it that way would be because the sharpening helps the person tracking since high contrast/crispness is better for that.
Is that Mt Iron and Sticky Forest in the background??? If so, a quick "hi" from over here in Kirimoko. :) And secondly, nice video! I look forward to exploring more in your channel!
Great video, would this be good for bike riding and football? New to drones. Saw the price range with it instead of buying a 360 camera. Also gained a sub !
The fly more combo with the remote is unfortunately not available on the DJI web site, nor Amazon (at least if you order from the US). Only the combo with the drone, charging hub and extra batteries.
I own the mini 3 pro and am satisfied with video quality in 'cine' mode. I always fly in 'manual' mode with fixed shutter speed/WB/focus(infinity). I want to avoid white skies etc. With sharpness at -2, is this anywhere close to the mini 3 ?
Having bought Avata 2 to learn FPV - NEO can be my "LEARN MANUAL/ACRO" instead of beating on Avata 2 - Talk about budget, Care Refresh is $22 A good little fella, he wants to be just like his Big Bro, Avata 2!

Love your videos! i just bought this drone I will be getting it in a few days!!
Perhaps the colours and quality don't match too well but its cheap and not terrible and easily upgradeable.
can't wait to buy this little fella. so impressive for its size
Well done better than most other praising this thing, I already bought it and it totally sucks in low light but it is great toy to play with :) ..
Can you recommend a good and cheap drone for beginners to take short videos and pics 4k?
Great vid so which drone would you recommend for someone wanting their first camera video drone ?
i'm gona buy this drone ! Beacause the camera quality of my drone is not great is just 1080P , and i want 4K drone with better FPS for only 330$ ! Thank Brodie Reed !
This will sell out. Brilliant product
Fantastic video buddy. Way better than all the "sponsored" ones 😉. Subscribed 😊
A big thumbs up especially for the sharpening tip. I wish you could delve more into the video settings, comparison, like for example there is a 1080p60 mode, does it look any different or even worse etc. Anyway sharpening is one thing, but I still feel the image is overexposed somehow, any fix for that?
Ordered mine this morning on Prime, roll on tomorrow.
check again... not shipping till 10/6
@@PCNAF09 Received it yesterday, Amazon UK. Maybe sold out now.
Great review! I’ve got the mini2 so great to know about the RC working w Neo and all the auto flight capture modes might get me to purchase, Grt price
Can you grade the footage? Does it record log 10bit?
If I’m looking for a drone for photo and video what would you recommend as this is good value.
Good video keep the work up man very well executed 🤝🏼🚀
Just bought one arrives today!
i actually enjoy the motion controller, i have no problem letting others fly FPY with that and its super easy, i got myself an FPV controller and understand the full control just cant be beat but that motion controller feels really nice to me and kinda like on Starfox 64 on 3DS, the motion helps keep steady through small gaps
Great video Brodie
Just a odd question.. Would removing the prop shield improve the flight? Wind resistance and flight time etc?
Does it have gps, can it return if it lose signal and how long range does it have?
Btw: Love your vids!
It does have gps and RTH
Great show!!🎉
Brodie, I have a testing question for you. If you change camera settings (i.e. sharpness) while operating the Neo with a remote one day; will those settings remain in place if you then operate the Neo with only the phone app days later? I'm thinking of those days when I want to shed all the peripherals and grab just the drone.
So for this price or similar, what's a good camera drone? I just want some cool pictures
You advocate the DJI Avada 2. But the price is not compatible with the Neo. Can you suggest something better that is closer to the Neo price rance?
Hi, was thinking that maybe it would be quite all right for shooting social media clips/promo clips in closed spaces like warehouses, shops etc if you already have an fpv from DJI?
Why does the fly more combo in the UK come with the remote? I didn't see it listed on the US website. I just went to the Amazon UK site and it comes with the remote. Why the difference? But it does cost more in the UK at $390 USD. But it would be nice to have the option to save a little if you want the remote.
Great presentation. I love the honesty of your review. Cheers!
Im totally new to this and this seemed like the perfect starter drone for price and fun, but no the video maker says, so what is then?
I was looking for a better than tello drone for indoors with kids playing basketball or dodgeball.
You could still colour Grade the footage in the light cut app. I can put d log m on my hover air x1 footage but it needs adjusting slightly.👍👌
I bought my original Mavic Pro back in 2017 to take mountain biking and skiing videos of myself, only to discover those modes are basically unusable. Will this follow me descending a tree run skiing, or through a forest on my bike? Will it avoid obstacles like a Skydio?
Hello i am an 11 year old that recently fell in love with drones recently.I have a few questions to ask you ^^
1) Can you do fpv without the fpv headset with a phone and the controller instead ? (the one you’d get when you buy fpv only drones)
2) How much time can it fly ?
and 3) Will my iphone 11 need cellular data to use it correctly ?(not on wifi completely but with the pack which has the controller)
1. You need a DJI Goggles and a DJI FPV controller.
2. I don't know
Retiring from the professional drone game but want to stay in the drone game maybe for vlogging. Neo is good or not? What do you think?
To me it depends if you will travel on a plane a lot with it and if you need it to work in windy conditions. For travel or activity where you can put it in a small backpack or underseat bag on a plane, seems perfect. But seems like it will be a no go in windy conditions. But as the reviewer states, it was very windy when he had issues.
I bought one primarily to fly indoors with the Avata 2 gear. Just tell me the goggles 3 will record the drones feed. It seems obvious that they would but...
It dosent work indoors unfortunately
Great video mate! 🤩🤩
Hi,nice video, what controler do you use for fully manual mode, must have a gooles too?
It's always tough finding real reviews for DJI stuff, they love to flood youtubers with free units who heap praise onto everything lest they get cut off from the gravy train
Funny thing is your video doesn't look half bad compared to other videos I've watched.
You can adjust sharpness when its connected to the RC-N3 controller
good video. crap dji management to not support dji rc1
Fantastic review, thank you! Is it compatible with the original DJI RC (version with the antennas inside)?
Only RC2 for now
Is that Mt Iron and Sticky Forest in the background??? If so, a quick "hi" from over here in Kirimoko. :) And secondly, nice video! I look forward to exploring more in your channel!
Great video, would this be good for bike riding and football? New to drones. Saw the price range with it instead of buying a 360 camera. Also gained a sub !
Thanks so much for all this information!!
Which one you prefer dji mini 2 se or dji neo?
A jack of all trades is a master of none, but is oftentimes better than a master of one.
Is the camera quality comparable to the O3 Air Unit? I already have Avata 2, Mini 3 and a Flywoo Flylens 85 for indoor.
Hey bro how do you access the sharpness option. Im trying to find it on the dji fly app but it doesnt have it on that aye.
You need the rc controller or goggles to access certain setting like sharpness etc.
I'm thinking about buying the Neo just so I can practice full manual mode. Rather risk this drone than my Avata 2.
Just use a simulator..
Using rc2 controller, are you able to use waypoints?
Other reviews are mentioning sharpening like you..BUT they say can only be done when using remote
Having bought Avata 2 to learn FPV - NEO can be my "LEARN MANUAL/ACRO" instead of beating on Avata 2 - Talk about budget, Care Refresh is $22
A good little fella, he wants to be just like his Big Bro, Avata 2!
There is also another category... have FPV drones ("not for") but want to take quick, spontaneous clips on family trips (like "for" #1, but don't own DJI camera drones; and also want to be in the shot).
I am shooting on Action 4 only in Dlog M so the non-changeable color profile is a bummer
Its like.... Tello, Mini 2/3 and Avata having one baby :D So cool lil fella even for me tho I have experience with drones from long time
don't forget about the spark.
@@andyp.4205 Good point
It’s all in at $350. Who cares that thing rips for the price!!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I’m gonna put it up against my GEPRC soon
What is the longest flight time I can get on it on normal flight ? Thanks for the review
15 mintues ish
Can it use portrait mode?
Worth watching ❤❤❤❤
Bunner i bought the hover airx1 😅 this one is mych better priced and better quality 😅 well will have to not stress over it
