THE best drone videos on TH-cam.... My favourite bit of these range-tests is when Dustin says, "I'm just going to go ahead and cancel that..." when the range-warning pops up!
I am new to flying again after a break of many, many years. Love it when even my neighbour knows who that 'Dunhill' crazy bloke off TH-cam is? You're famous, even with returners and none droning neighbours here in England Dustin. Many thanks.
It depends on if the battery is warm. Too hot or too cold will degrade battery. My main issue where I live now is altitude. 7500ft and the air gets thinner so less "bite" for propellers and some efficiency is lost🍻
I've only the flown the Neo once with the controller, and I no signal issues. I flew my usual test route at the beach that I put all my new drones through. The Neo has the 04 transmission system, so no surprise the signal is great. This was another great range test, you had me on the edge of my seat at one point. I'm glad you got it back home safely. Thanks for sharing.
Not sure how it is in your country for overregulation but you may find using a VPN and setting your region to USA and then doing a firmware refresh though the DJI consumer drone app will give you a multitude of signal transmission options instead of the one it was locked to by default in many countries like Chinada. Thanks for the video!
These range tests are great, ive bought a bunch of DJI Drones, after watching your range tests. I currently own 8 DJI Drones, & im waiting for my 9th, the AIR 3S. I ordered the AIR 3S on the 3rd & its been stuck in customs since the 7th. I actually bought 19 tickets for your AIR 3S fly more combo raffle, hoping I would win & cancel my AIR 3s order, but no dice lol. I currently own the Mini 3, Mini 4 Pro, AIR 2S, AIR 3, Mavic 3 Pro, Avata 2, DJI FPV Drone, Neo. All have been great.
I have watched your videos for years. I enjoyed most of your quadcopter (drone) videos. The range test is fun, and I would never do. The is a fun nature into different curious gadgets you get to test is pretty cool.
Hey Dustin did you see the video how the guy change the speed of the neo with his dji goggles, he change the tilt in the settings can you check this out.
Your so good at this! I tried doing this one time with another drone, set up the audio recorder, flew all the way out and back and realized I hadn't said a word I was so focused on flying! LOL!
After watching a few videos on the neo and then watching yours I went out and bought one at Target I bought the combo. The first time I flew it was indoors at night in a small house and it followed me from room to room amazing.
Good test, the weather was good, I think you could fly a little further with the gimbal cover because the air flow at the front of the drone would be more aerodynamic - maybe you can try it - you can also fly with the camera cover
Thanks Dustin. Its insane how much the value of this drone provides with the right controller. Been waiting a week for my RC N3 here in NYC. I haven’t heard much about the goggles N3 being sold in the US? Anyways, QUESTION: If im controlling via mobile app and wifi only, will the drome automatically stop prior to losing my connection if i just keep the forward stick held down? I want to do ny own range test with mobile but scared itll disconnect and ill lose it.
Of course it is fun to see what you can do with the Neo on an RC2 controller, but that is not what the Neo is intended for. I bought the Neo to do those actions, which is inconvenient with my Mini 4 Pro or the Avata 1. Just quick image recordings on a forest path with the bike or walk to see something. A rest point when I ride a motorcycle. The batteries do run out quickly, I have found something for that, with the car I have the Anker Solix C300 DC (small power station) with me and with the bike and motorcycle the Anker 250w power bank. When the first battery is empty, I connect the charger and take the 2nd battery. By the time the 3rd battery is empty, the first is already full for use again. Both are fast chargers and the Neo batteries do 14 watts with fast charging.
The range test on Sport was probably because you were in a tailwind going out and a headwind coming back. So battery is used up more to combat the headwind. (You can tell because of the speed dip) It's one of the warnings in the manual.
Man… I did not expect these amazing results from the Neo! I also didn’t think you would make it all the way back because I noticed when the Neo’s battery get low, the voltage drops quickly/. Dustin, once again the best drone range tests right here! Well done thanks for sharing.😊
You should find a few fixed landing spots you can drive to and recover your drones that are about 5 to 10 miles away to see how far they can actually fly
If you have an in at DJI, or if they read these, they should know they need to add the Follow Functionality of the Neo to the Avata 2. Granted , I’ve only had my Avata 2 for less than a month, I can’t find any kind of “Follow Me” in the firmware. Thanks for the videos!!
Did you increase the standard max speed settings in N and S before doing this test? If not I'd guess it could have gone in S even further. A range test with Goggles in true M mode would be interesting. If you change cam angle to 40 - 45° one TH-camr got little Neo to fly at afair 45 - 50 km/h !!
Couldn't have timed it better! Was that with the latest .400 version or the previous one? I'm asking because the flight was perfectly smooth while there have been many scary unexplained "zoomies" with the latest version...
Yes, but even a little weight on a drone this small will drastically change the flight characteristics and time. It has GPS & find my drone feature in app to help locate 🍻
I’m trying to find a video of more aggressive flying with the rc2 controller. Is it possible to fly it the way you do with the motion 3? Obviously not exactly the same but not just cinematic style of flying. It’s To bad the motion combo isn’t available yet. I think that’s probably what I need but thinking of starting with neo and rc2 for now??
The NEO is an awesome piece of gear. At its price point limit your expectations. Would like DJI to add "Camera" with timed shots, say 5 Sec & 10 Sec intervals to ALL 6 of the NEO preset shooting modes. At present think only the "Spotlight mode" mode offers timed photos. Recognize that drone capture has been prioritized towards Videographers. Only offering the "Video" Camera Mode is a bit limiting. Primarily a Still photographer. With my Mavic 3 have captured some amazing stills. NEO Camera will have to wait for the NEO Pro so don’t big deal it. Simple an limited Camera/Still settings should be an easy add.
@@DustinDunnill I am buying the Neo with the RC N3... I would be really happy if I could also fly it in full manual mode with my remote. Do you know if I'll be able to?
Please do a manual mode with the RC2 and the Goggles, the Goggles 3 good ones if you have them. Doesn't need to be risky, just verify it works together. Thanks.
None actually. Or at least it's not noticeable. I'm thinking the longevity would be slightly lower but I've done this to so many DJI batteries over the years and honestly can't tell the difference. The voltage buffer they cut off at prevents noticeable damage it seems🍻
normal mode went out one mile returning home with 50% power, the returning speed was nearly 15mph and 12% power left on landing. When in sport mode, went out to 2 miles, and returning home again at 15mph. At that point I did not think you were going to make it! But that was close!
Are you sure the brief flyaway that you encountered near the end of your video was a GPS issue? I suspect that it was due to the low light condition that existed. As you know there is no RTH when you utilize your phone as a control therefore there is no GPS available.
Likely a combination of both. I was under the impression there is GPS when flying with phone. Why wouldn't there be? The drone has GPS onboard where it's current location & launch location are auto logged.
Awesome flight. Thanks for sharing your experience. Can you do text about something you said. That with the RC2 can flight like a manual mode. Thanks for your videos. I see all.
At just over 4700 ft away with barely 23% battery life, I thought your DJI Neo was a goner. Any sort of head wind and it would've been toast. I've learned to always trust the software when it prompts to return home or land...only on rare circumstances I have I disrupted RTH during a low-battery situation.
Love your videos , always great scenery to see . i also just purchased 15 tickets for the neo raffle, thanks for all the reviews you do. And having Great raffles Hopefully I win me a new dji neo one day 😂 to fly here in wisconsin, usa I am also a FAA Certified part 107 commercial drone pilot Thanks again Dustin and family
I love these range test videos
I've spent hours and hours watching these they r so calming.
Me too, love this tests..mainly because they get to put theyre drone at risk, instead on my own drone. 😂😂😂
THE best drone videos on TH-cam.... My favourite bit of these range-tests is when Dustin says, "I'm just going to go ahead and cancel that..." when the range-warning pops up!

Oh cool 😂🍻
Dustin's popularity is even "Range Tested"!!!. That Guy goes long range with great reception, from other countries 👍🏻.
Cold temperatures will also have a significant effect range.
Is it in favor or against? what happens if flying in hot tempt? Thanks
It depends on if the battery is warm. Too hot or too cold will degrade battery. My main issue where I live now is altitude. 7500ft and the air gets thinner so less "bite" for propellers and some efficiency is lost🍻
It don't have a significant difference. You might loose a minute maybe. The wind effects the power more then anything.
I've only the flown the Neo once with the controller, and I no signal issues. I flew my usual test route at the beach that I put all my new drones through. Well equipped and incredibly universal for a tiny form factor 🍻

One of the best range tests I've seen. Can't wait to get my neo.
You will love it!
Absolutely fantastic range review as always Dustin, who would of thought a tiny drone like the neo would make it that far 😮

That’s such an incredible view. And you get THAT from your back patio???!?! amazing. Reminds me of the mountains past boulder/nederland.

Interference could do this but it will auto return to launch after a few seconds 🍻
I would recommend modifying one of the custom buttons on the bottom as cruise control
Love watching your vids from here in Scotland 🏴
That last return to home was entertaining ! Thanks for the experience
This little Neo is amazing. I love your range test. You have nerves of steel. You should be a fighter pilot.
Sport mode was the way to go, Dustin. Terrific test. Big thank you!

Yeah, that is awesome. I might pick one up because I got all the accessory goggle and controller with it. I just have to purchase the drone.👍

been waiting for this
Please do the range test with the dji air 3s
It's the same as the air 3 done did it
I am working on it 🍻
That was bloody brilliant, I was getting nervous just watching it!
You should find a few fixed landing spots you can drive to and recover your drones that are about 5 to 10 miles away to see how far they can actually fly
I've been thinking about that but the variability in drones, wind, batteries etc. scares me a bit 🍻
@DustinDunnill maybe have a partner down the road waiting on you? Would make a fun video
When's the Air 3S in-depth review coming?
Working on it. Weather has slowed me down a bit 🍻
😂 it's returning home...been a few days 😂🍻
Good part of this is if you lose this drone you’re only out of a couple hundred bucks! 😂
Good point 🍻
If you have an in at DJI, or if they read these, they should know they need to add the Follow Functionality of the Neo to the Avata 2. Granted , I’ve only had my Avata 2 for less than a month, I can’t find any kind of “Follow Me” in the firmware.

Be nice to see a range test with goggles on make sure they match the transmitter

I'll have to check the version but I think it's the latest. Seemed fine to me 🍻
👑The King of Range👑
Wen fly the DJI Neo with the RC2 you’re going to go into control and expose settings and increase speed in sport mode and in normal mode
I definitely want to see a range test with the goggles 3 and controller!
Thanks for the suggestion 🍻
I’m looking to move out of state, I want to move to Montana but house prices have tripled there. What state was this video made in?
NM
The goggles N3 I saw are only coming out December 5th
@@EtotheZ2024 is that to America, on December 5th?
Great job Dustin on pushing the limits. I have been gone from your channel for a minute. Are you in the southwestern U.S now instead of hawaii? 😊
Yes, I visit Hawaii once or twice a year 🍻
Can't really wait for neo 2..... And the mini 5🔥🔥🔥
Loves it. In retrospect, the Neo survived the range test but the Mini 4 Pro didn't. Sweet irony 😅
So cruise control is based on the controller?
Yes, and the app software per controller 🍻
best range videos out of all
What about adding to it air tag ? So if we hit obstacle we can locate it ? Does it make sense ?
Yes, but even a little weight on a drone this small will drastically change the flight characteristics and time. It has GPS & find my drone feature in app to help locate 🍻

I think it's wild to be able to go that far with this little drone. I found one I'm picking up soon to mess around with.
You gotta try the gemfan 5 blade props dustin. Much less noise.
Thanks. Any sacrifice in flight time?
Which fly more combo kit includes the titanium balls?
😂🍻
The King of range tests 😎🤙!!
Do you have another video with DJI NEO with Goggles 3 and motion controller3 range test? I couldnt find it :)
I found the best range comes from the new cheaper Goggles N3 surprisingly bearing my Goggles 3. Immense range
Nice to see a range test Again however... would Love to see a full fledge range test of the air 3 s...OOH BOI 😂
Great video Dustin. Now I’m not afraid to range-out with my Neo 👍
That's some brave flying!
I lose video signal before RC 2 bars to none using Goggles 3. Was curious if there would be a difference between controllers.
you're unit doesn't have the top covers/grills above the props? Is this better?
The NEO is an awesome piece of gear. At its price point limit your expectations.
Would like DJI to add "Camera" with timed shots, say 5 Sec & 10 Sec intervals to ALL 6 of the NEO preset shooting modes. At present think only the "Spotlight mode" mode offers timed photos. Can you do a speed test ? Apparently if change the angle it goes faster
I may do one yes. Thanks for the suggestion 🍻
yes Sir! amaizig video! incredible dji neo range!!
Is the range the same with the bundle controller?
Yes
CAN you fly the Neo in full manual with the RC 2 or RC N3?
If you could DJI would lose sales on the fpv remote 3 so id say you can't
I honestly saw something about it enabled in the latest update but I haven't tried it yet.
@@DustinDunnill I am buying the Neo with the RC N3... I would be really happy if I could also fly it in full manual mode with my remote. Do you know if I'll be able to?
These range tests are top shelf, I nearly sht a chicken watching the sport mode return.
Hey there why didn't you make a range test of air 3s. Really waiting for it
Working on it. Weather has slowed things a bit 🍻
Amazing video ! So I guess it is safe to fly this drone in the winter ?
I'd just be careful of wind and snow/rain 🍻
Please do a manual mode with the RC2 and the Goggles, the Goggles 3 good ones if you have them. Doesn't need to be risky, just verify it works together. Thanks.
Range test with phone can be improved by registering iD to unlock private flight limitt, usefull if pilot is moving along with phone-controller
Dang, that was an awesome video! Good job, right down to the wire!
Thanks! It was a close one!
LOL.... That ending was incredible....
This was more thrilling than most thrillers
Best range test video ever.
I'm glad you enjoyed it 🍻
How many batteries have given you issues after these 0% landings?
None actually. Or at least it's not noticeable. I'm thinking the longevity would be slightly lower but I've done this to so many DJI batteries over the years and honestly can't tell the difference. The voltage buffer they cut off at prevents noticeable damage it seems🍻
Loving my Neo! I’m definitely getting the Avata next.
Can one fly the DJi Avata 2 with the R2 remote controller?
normal mode went out one mile returning home with 50% power, the returning speed was nearly 15mph and 12% power left on landing. When in sport mode, went out to 2 miles, and returning home again at 15mph. At that point I did not think you were going to make it! But that was close!
please tell me you found the mini 4 pro you lost a year ago
Never did 😞🙂
Similar results to what I got. Just above 1mile out from me (5400-5500 feet). Impressive for such a small drone.
Are you sure the brief flyaway that you encountered near the end of your video was a GPS issue? I suspect that it was due to the low light condition that existed. As you know there is no RTH when you utilize your phone as a control therefore there is no GPS available.

No filters 🍻

Awesome flight. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Can you do text about something you said. That with the RC2 can flight like a manual mode.

How mini drones, have you lost in the woods around your house?
One Mini 4 still unaccounted for 🙂🍻
I used to wonder how u go so far then I remembered I’m in the uk and we don’t have the FCC mode on default sadly
I've not watched your videos for a while. When did you move from Hawaii?
Great video man. Nice neighborhood also.
I love the neo❤️
Nice range test Dustin!
Appreciate it! 🙂🍻
I have tested 1.8 km range yesterday (total 3.6 km covered ) with zero signal loss but battery life is very disappointing
Ive just gotnone and noticed today. When mine said 10ft it was more 30ft .. seems like yours is the same? Any ideas why ?
Only logs altitude generically from its launch altitude which is zero 🍻
Can’t get more nail biting than that!
