Bro you pushed the limits for this thing that was an amazing ending, this thing must save a tiny bit of battery after 0% as backup for auto landing. Legendary vid bro.
The problem is the batteries does not have linear power. So jumps can happen. I was chilling with 30% Battery and started to drive home but it dropped to 20 the 15 - 5 and then 0 in less than 5 minutesi tried to cancel the autoland so I could land it were i wanted. It ended up landing on top of a house. Had to Get a ladder and everything.
It wasn't the wind pushing it off course, if it was the wind, then a) There would be "high wind" warnings on the remote - b) the trees would be moving a lot if the wind was above 8m/s which the max the drone can cope with c) it would have been blown off course to the right on the way back but both times it was going left which suggests either you weren't holding the stick exactly straight (best guess) or there is something up with the calibration of the controller (or drone). This made you travel much further than you needed to on the way back.
I wondered about that myself. I've had a high wind warning myself once. The trees did look fairly still. But it's a light drone easily moved by breeze I should imagine.
I wouldn't be so quick to discount the wind...there is generally a fair amount of wind variation (and could be quite substantial) between ground level and 70m (230ft), particularly anywhere near or over water, and the Neo is a feather. I would have dropped to 15-20m once I had good radio line of sight to see if that was the problem. Nice vid! 👍
@@jpenna1976 Basically it means the drone can still operate under reliable control (inc. staying in place automatically) if the wind is blowing up to 8m/s (18mph.) It can also make some progress into the wind but it'll use a lot more battery and not be as fast. My mini 3 pro is rated for 10m/s wind, the max it can fly in sport mode is 16m/s under control so very simply if it is going into a 10m/s wind it can still go 6m/s. With the wind it is still limited by software to 16m/s but with the wind behind it, it uses way less battery. That's why they always say "out into the wind, back with the wind" - with near-the-limit wind I have recorded it using around 5x more battery to go the same distance into the wind as coming back.
Dude, I’ve watched a LOT of ranges tests of different drones over the years and this was probably the *closest* call I’ve ever seen!!! Glad to see you managed to get it back! Great video!!
@@BlairAir I watched one guy , I think in America, pushed some DJI to about 11 miles (or was it km) , resisting all warnings and finally forced to land on a flat roof of a farm. The terrain was totally flat if I remember right.
Sooooo.... WHY would you not have flown over land in the event you did not have enough charge? Far better chance of saving it on a ground landing than a water landing. Just thinking you took a bigger chance than you needed to. Glad you got it back! Now go grab a towel and wipe the sweat off your forehead, lol
Nail biting exciting!!! Could not keep my eyes of the video. And a huge sigh of relief (and a good laugh) when this loyal 'pet' landed in your hand. I am not going to reproduce your brave action though! Thanks for this great video 🙂
You are so courageous! On the way back, I would have flown it over the shoreline, just off the water, but the video would have been utterly boring. I prefer your video to any James Bond movie, because yours is real.
I took my DJI Mavik past its max limit in the Philippines ocean. The drone said it was coming back and I agreed. If there had been a headwind on return it would've been close.
The DJI Mini batteries typically last around 25 to 30 minutes of flight time under optimal conditions. However, the exact time can vary based on factors like wind conditions, temperature, and flight style. If you're asking how quickly they lose power when not in use, they generally retain their charge for several days or weeks, but it's best to store them at around 50% charge to prolong battery life. Do you have a specific model in mind?
I pay you deep respect for doing a long-distance flight test with this drone. My estimate at first was 1.5 - 1.7km. But I see that he reached 1.3km and very dramatically. I fly the Mavic 2 Zoom remotely as well, but always only over land. In open terrain. It is not good to fly over water. Never. If so, then only for a limited time, necessary. It's a drone and a loss about nothing else. But I'm surprised that the drone couldn't turn and fly to the shore, it was still carried as if by the wind. But I don't see any wind. Yes, the sport mode has more power from the motors, which would take more energy from the battery, but on the other hand, the drone would be more resistant to the wind and would fly forward better. Yet in Sports mode, the drone couldn't turn as far as you needed to. Strange. I think it also helps to reduce the altitude, where the wind current and calm are different, it might also help not to fly with the front of the camera in a turn to the shore, but to try to fly sideways of the drone to the shore. Right away, even in the distance, maybe 800m apart. Better to go for the drone on foot than to drown it in the water. Dramatic video. But a good ending. Thank you for the test. I saw at the end of the video how your hand was shaking, your nerves. I'm not surprised.
I'm thinking a Christmas present to self. :-) I've the Mini 3 Pro which I love but this I could carry in my back pack for hiking very easily and use it without holding everyone up in my group. Cheap too!
You definitely pushed it to its limits this was insane as soon as it started beeping my anxiety kicked in like it was my drone out there 😂great video!!!!
That was hilarious, I thought you had said your final goodbye to that little drone. Man that was better than watching the original 'Die Hard' movie. Loved it. Just out of interest did that battery ever hold another charge or had you cooked..excellent footage. Simon
The propeller guard should be removed for range test. Open space should fly without the extra weight And 8m/s should be the standard speed in sport mode. It does not show the full potential range in normal mode. Do you intend to test normal mode as a range test?
you need to change mode after power on if u want S or C mode it always starts in Normal (for now) regardless the RC button position // Video takes battery / changing high takes battery - can u make another test with filming your phone screen (screenrecord it maybe) and stay at one level with a 100% battery without using the 4k onbaord thx for the test - im thinking about getting the googels 3 and the motion controller + the fpv 3 controller next month
That was drifting left toward the end of the outward leg and drifting still left on the inward leg - so unlikely to be wind... wisdom in hindsight. I would have first dropped alt below the tree level (in case it _was_ wind and while you have line-of-sight), headed straight for the beach (diagonally if necessary) and then flew sideways along the beach with a remote landing if necessary. This could have damaged the battery. Tense video. Does the Neo float?
At around 07:35 decreasing altitude and heading back towards shore is what I would advise. Decrease altitude to get out of the higher winds and also the home point had drifted off shore.
Totally new to this thing, however would it have been a less of a worry to have just accepted the RTH function of the drone rather than manual? Or did I miss something, again completely new to this and don't mean if thus comment comes off as ignorant. Awesome flight nonetheless
This was classic. Nail biting stuff! Congrats for getting it back!!! I’ve never flown a drone in my life, so hey, but it looked pretty clear it was getting blown out to sea as you were at the turn around point. Trees vs sea… you sure ran the gauntlet! Beautiful scenery and impressive camera on that little thing 👍

Nice stressful video! About the Normal mode while the remote is in Sport. If you've the remote in Sport before booting up the drone, it'll still start in Normal mode. You've got to set back remote to normal and then sport and the drone will switch. Quite annoying tbh!
Just curious because I've never flown one before, but are you able to go out of RTH mode, put it in manual mode and simply steered to land on the nearest shore and walked over to retrieve it? If so, that's what I would have done to prevent losing it in the water. Also, are there any options for making it "floatable" without affecting flight or weight too much?
Bro that shit was crazy 🤪 still say you the best with a drone and camera 📷 love the video 📹 your one of the reason I made my utube channel much love Zachary Blanco
Amazed you got that back. You were 1300m out when at 58% battery with an estimated 4 minutes and 22 seconds left of flight. I know it's estimated, but still... basic maths. The Neo was going 3.9m/s, so even at 1200m it should have taken you an estimated 300 seconds, 5 minutes to get back. I think the only reason you actually made it was the height, had you been lower you'd have been in the water. Can't believe you did especially with the drift you were experiencing! I'd say nice job but I don't think that was skill as much as luck, lmfao! Appears that you can go to 0% with the battery and not fall out of the sky, which is excellent, but damn that probably wasn't great for battery health. Anyway, thanks for the entertainment!
On the outbound leg there seemed to be an onshore breeze, on the return leg there was a stronger offshore breeze. Either way dropping lower on the return would have exposed the little Neo to less wind. The trees would have been a handy wind barrier to exploit.
I wonder what mode is most efficient? Perhaps its not sport? I always wondered if the automatic return to home feature was the most efficient, is it smart enough to figure the wind speed and the resistance and track the best course. It's probably not that advanced. great video!!
I've just ordered one, so watching this video showed me just how far you can push the range limits!! I've seen other videos where they weren't so lucky... how to drown a drone😲!!
Wiw that was close, you certainly pushed that to the limit⚠️😲😳😁 I think.lowering the altitude to like 30m or something might help, looked like it struggled with the wind higher up? Also remove prop guards for less drag.
Question: which mode saves battery life and is faster in an emergency when the drone is low on battery- let the Return to Home mode automatically return to home or overtake and manually fly the drone back? I honestly dont trust my phone is open spaces wifi is so unreliable
ooph! I was sweating for you here in Scotland. I've had a similar situation here on one of our islands. After sending my Mini 3 Pro out over the ferries a little bit too far (you get carried away) I RTH ed it but it said (Like yours) critically low battery landing in location! I managed to cancel that and got it over the land but still over dense , high ferns. I managed to reach out far enough to catch it. And people look at some drone videos and think "how relaxing": if only they knew the truth! Lol! Glad you got yours back safe my friend. 🙂
I like the ... laid backness and no b/s of this review. So often reviews are too hectic to follow. But this review is so Not Hectic, good stuff. The Lows and Highs, The goods and the bads, of the product. So I bought three.
Your hand is shaking while catching the drone. I'm also getting nervous watching it return to home. Neo is a beginner drone, and you can't fully trust it. But very nice review! Thanks man.
next time lower your altitude, man. As soon as the drone started the forced landing, it became able to go closer to the shore. 70 meters high with such a tiny drone is way too dangerous because of the winds. however, congrats for your luck, I'm happy you didn't loose your lil' bird :)
That was very close!! Wow. Winds at different levels can be vastly different, if you get in a similar situation and it seems that the aircraft is struggling, try going lower or higher...It might just save your drone!
Consider learning to fly FPV long range if you haven’t already, it’s a whole different thrill. There is a lot to learn but totally worth it. Enjoy your new drone.
Did you try to fly it back or did you hit a home button to fly back,. I started thinking maybe you were fighting against the path it wanted to take to come back to you and was burning up more energy/battery?
I had the same issue with drifting a few weeks ago, over water whilst kayaking in Hungary Dji says you should not fly over water... But i don't no, how affects water the sensorf on 60m....
Is it able to go over the water with the remote because you've got strong gps signal and it's at such a high altitude the bottom sensors cant be confused and crash?
Personally have not flown a drone and am considering buying of of these in the near future. Do you think bringing it back down to say 40m height rather than 70m would have helped? Seemed to me you were stuck in stronger winds pushing it out into the water more, wouldn't lowering it help get out of the stronger winds?
@@torontorc4637 You maybe right. As said I have never flown one but from watching the video it did seem the higher it went the more of a struggle it was to keep it from drifting.
Brilliant man!! Awesome video, scary but great fun, better than any thriller movie, perfect timing, thank you for sharing that. Just got my Neo but I ain't doing that!! 😂✌🤟🤘
same here i’m going to get in few days but not going to do this crazy test, but hates of to this man due to him people like us can really know the real test. 🫡
Surprised how you could fly that far, in the city I found that I lost signal like even under 20 meters distance! 😅 But love the Neo and seeing some cool stuff on TH-cam this little beast.
wonder how bad this damages the battery to kept it flying at 0.. i would mark that one and test it over time to see if the longevity of it is effected by the low discharge
That was WAY to close for comfort. You really pushed it right to the edge, 😮, thanks for risking it! And that footage is so pretty that i may need to get one of these.
Something odd going on with the direction, that was not wind, it almost looked like it was on some sort of cruise mode and not flying in the direction you pointed it. I honestly did not think you were gonna make it back. Think this thing might have some bugs need ironing out. Some other guy said that once he got low battery warning he had 10 seconds before the drone decided to land right where it was at that moment.😮
That’s nice! It’ll be really good if DJI or a good aftermarket company can make a battery adapter for 18650 batteries. Can you imagine what 5500mah at 20w/h can add to this range test?!
Great video man ! But please, restart the vid with sport mode lmao we absolutely need to see this result, not in normal mode, you need to re put the controller in sport mode if you have started the drone initially with sport mode

شكرا للفيديو ولتجربه ممتعه .. لقد خفت عليها بسبب بطاريه ههه اعتقدت انها سوف تهبط فوق ماء 😅.. الحمدلله مشت الامور سليمه
Thanks for checking out the video 👍🏾
@@torontorc4637 welcome 😄
That was close, I was on the edge of my seat. You were very lucky there!
I was very lucky 🤣
I was thinking the same thing, if I were any lower the drone would have been gone. Thanks for watching 👍🏾
On the outbound leg there seemed to be an onshore breeze, on the return leg there was a stronger offshore breeze. Either way dropping lower on the return would have exposed the little Neo to less wind. The trees would have been a handy wind barrier to exploit.
I was at the edge of my seat rooting for your drone to make it back! haha
Thanks for watching 👍🏾
How could you call it a stupid drone while you are controlling it?😂😂😂
Bruh....this has happened to me a few times but just as nerve-racking watching. Good videos 👍
Thanks for checking it out 👍🏾
I wonder what mode is most efficient? Perhaps its not sport? I always wondered if the automatic return to home feature was the most efficient, is it smart enough to figure the wind speed and the resistance and track the best course. It's probably not that advanced. great video!!
The auto return in not always that accurate in calculating, it's been known to fail. That's why I turn back at 60%
I've just ordered one, so watching this video showed me just how far you can push the range limits!! I've seen other videos where they weren't so lucky... how to drown a drone😲!!
It's a great drone, you'll like it. Thanks for watching
Wiw that was close, you certainly pushed that to the limit⚠️😲😳😁
I think.lowering the altitude to like 30m or something might help, looked like it struggled with the wind higher up?
Also remove prop guards for less drag.
hahaha, just ordered one of this things and came across your video. I am limiting myself to 65% and dry land 😁
Question: which mode saves battery life and is faster in an emergency when the drone is low on battery- let the Return to Home mode automatically return to home or overtake and manually fly the drone back?
I honestly dont trust my phone is open spaces wifi is so unreliable
That was hilarious 😂
Nice catch - true ‘just in time’
Phew !!
Man I was sure I was going to lose it🤣
my anxiety when the drone was about to land in the water: 📈📈📈📈📈📈
Mine too 🤣
@torontorc4637 also i would like to see a dji neo battery mod, since there isnt any yet-
Wow! Thank you for reportage! Respect for your action👍
Thanks for watching 👍🏾
Wow that's crazy! That was too close, my blood pressure Went sky high🤣🤣. Thanks for watching 👍🏾
I like the ... laid backness and no b/s of this review.
So often reviews are too hectic to follow.
But this review is so Not Hectic, good stuff.
The Lows and Highs, The goods and the bads, of the product.
So I bought three.
I appreciate it man, thanks for watching 👍🏾
The first to make range test 👍 Thank you. So...max distance is ~1.3 Km?
Haha! They claim the range would be 10km with the RC controller, but they didn't say the battery range can only reach upto 1.3km🤭
I would say that yeah
It will go much farther in sport mode
Your hand is shaking while catching the drone. I'm also getting nervous watching it return to home. Neo is a beginner drone, and you can't fully trust it. But very nice review! Thanks man.
I appreciate you checking it out 👍🏾
I was nervous for you. Glad you brought it home safely.
Thanks for watching 👍🏾
next time lower your altitude, man. As soon as the drone started the forced landing, it became able to go closer to the shore. 70 meters high with such a tiny drone is way too dangerous because of the winds. however, congrats for your luck, I'm happy you didn't loose your lil' bird :)
Thanks for watching 👍🏾
That was very close!! Wow. Winds at different levels can be vastly different, if you get in a similar situation and it seems that the aircraft is struggling, try going lower or higher...It might just save your drone!
Thanks for the tip👍🏾
Bro I was laughing since 9% till landing! 😂 Great vid!
Thanks for checking it out
Men!, I was already reaching for my Wallet. Great test bro.
It's a great drone, you'll love it 👍🏾
Consider learning to fly FPV long range if you haven’t already, it’s a whole different thrill. There is a lot to learn but totally worth it. Enjoy your new drone.
Thanks for watching 👍🏾
Did you try to fly it back or did you hit a home button to fly back,. I started thinking maybe you were fighting against the path it wanted to take to come back to you and was burning up more energy/battery?
I actually cancelled the RTH and brought it back. That was close! Thanks for watching
Good Job!
I had the same issue with drifting a few weeks ago, over water whilst kayaking in Hungary
Dji says you should not fly over water...
But i don't no, how affects water the sensorf on 60m....
I think it's fine over water, it done it many times
Living on the edge, love it. Canada has the best rules for little
Thanks for checking out the video 👍🏾
Wow that was a close one. Great range test brother 👍🇨🇦💯
Yeah that was pretty crazy. Thanks for checking it out bro 👍🏾🇨🇦
Is it able to go over the water with the remote because you've got strong gps signal and it's at such a high altitude the bottom sensors cant be confused and crash?
If you're high enough there shouldn't be a problem. I've flow over water with it at least 10 times so far. The lowest I've been is like 6 feet
Great video…we’re you trying to fly it over the land after turning around and it wouldn’t respond?
He was but It doesn't have a lot of authority in wind and he was getting blown off shore.
Great Drone but not a lot of power to fight the wind
Personally have not flown a drone and am considering buying of of these in the near future. Do you think bringing it back down to say 40m height rather than 70m would have helped? Seemed to me you were stuck in stronger winds pushing it out into the water more, wouldn't lowering it help get out of the stronger winds?
I don't think it was that much more windy up higher. The hight is what saved it from the water, more time to land
Thanks for watching, much appreciated 👍🏾
Can't even script that level of intensity. I'm expecting this drone in the mail any day now, doubt I would do what you just did though.
Thanks for watching 👍🏾
Wow... Dustin Dunhill should see this.. breath taking range tester
Thanks for watching 👍🏾
Surprised how you could fly that far, in the city I found that I lost signal like even under 20 meters distance! 😅 But love the Neo and seeing some cool stuff on TH-cam this little beast.
Thanks for checking it out, much appreciated 👍🏾
Great job on the controls at the end. Always for distance test stay or keep it near the shoreline as possible. 😎🚁
Thanks for watching
wonder how bad this damages the battery to kept it flying at 0.. i would mark that one and test it over time to see if the longevity of it is effected by the low discharge
I think it might be ok, the fact that it said it critical and was landing. We'll see, but I used that battery the next day and I was fine
That was WAY to close for comfort. You really pushed it right to the edge, 😮, thanks for risking it! And that footage is so pretty that i may need to get one of these.
Thanks for watching, have a great weekend 👍🏾
Something odd going on with the direction, that was not wind, it almost looked like it was on some sort of cruise mode and not flying in the direction you pointed it.
I honestly did not think you were gonna make it back.
Think this thing might have some bugs need ironing out.
Some other guy said that once he got low battery warning he had 10 seconds before the drone decided to land right where it was at that moment.😮
Yeah that was pretty weird, something was definitely up. Thanks for watching 👍🏾
That’s nice! It’ll be really good if DJI or a good aftermarket company can make a battery adapter for 18650 batteries.
Can you imagine what 5500mah at 20w/h can add to this range test?!
Someone might make a mod
Great video man ! But please, restart the vid with sport mode lmao we absolutely need to see this result, not in normal mode, you need to re put the controller in sport mode if you have started the drone initially with sport mode
Yeah, stay tuned. Thanks for watching 👍🏾
Where did you make this video brother? Beautiful water 😊
It was by rouge hill GO station in Scarborough
What a beautiful lake! Better luck than good any day of the week!
My wife and the dog laying in bed next to me didn't like the beeping but I was glued to my phone! Can't believe you made it! Luck or skill? Lol
Little bit of both🤣
Awesome! Phew .. Glad that the drone manages to be landed on your hand.
Thanks for watching 👍🏾
