  • Drop a twin-turbo V6 into the engine bay, beef up the brakes and add an adaptive suspension and the Genesis G80 becomes the G80 Sport. Oh, and don't forget about the carbon fiber trim. How sporty is it? Tom Voelk checks it out.

      it's the same car like a bmw 550/benz e43 for 20k less. it also use adaptive suspension like its bigger brother g90. a lot of the reviewers say it have one of the cushiest ride in the class because of that suspension set up.

      Stinger is the stinger with rwd real sports car, while the Genesis is more refined luxury. G models are beautiful and it looks elegant, but to me, I wish Hyundai would have put more futuristic looks to the interior. Exterior looks classy all around, although the tail light was looks outdated bit boring.

    • @benhaze1010
      @benhaze1010 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +1! I also thought for anyone not needed such a big (and heavy) car the upcoming G70 will be a much better choice. For US folks the V8 Genesis offers something a Stinger does not at a not so much incremental fuel cost.

  • @AngelManuelPerez
    @AngelManuelPerez 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wouldn't this G80 compete more closely with the S6 rather than the base A6? The sport comes with a 365hp vs. the 240 on the A6. Also, the Stinger feels more athletic because it has a smaller chassis and shorter wheelbase. As for the G70, if they manage to make its base price under 30k it might sell insanely well.

      Well, most luxury cars depreciate 40-50% in 2-3 years (with about 20-30K miles) Ex you can get a 2015 A6, E class, CTS, fully loaded G80 (MSRP $50K+) for around $25-28K now.

    Tom, off lease this car will be available for one half the original price or less.Well taken care of off lease , these will be a great value.Hyundai and Kia doesn't suffer from the problems of their German rivals, sruff breaking.My Kia's have been trouble free with ten years of ownership.Better like them too, the falling off a cliff depreciation is something that isnt talked about much.Guess H-K has their work to do in this aspect.They are equal/superior to the comparable Japanese and domestic brands .

    Thanks for mentioning the lack of rear seat power ports! That’s a must for my family. The new Accord Touring also doesn’t include the power ports. One other thing, and this Genesis does offer it, surround view/Birdeye should be included in most all vehicles by now.
    Whenever I write about any car lacking rear seat power ports, someone has to mouth off it’s “not important.” It’s impossible because even my older cars have rear seat power ports and one of my current cars includes two rear usb one a 115V outlet.

    The Polar Ice Blue color available on the G80 Sport is particularly enchanting, especially when paired with the brown leather interior. I think I'd take this over the Stinger GT, simply because it has a much roomier interior.

  • @regalgs51

    Tom:
    When you test drove the Genesis G90 3.3T, you said that the Lexicon stereo was “divine.” On paper at least, the G90 and the G80 Sport have the exact same 17 speaker Lexicon stereo with the same wattage, amp, surround sound features, and speakers. I personally listened to both stereos and although they are supposed to be identical, I found that the G90’s Lexicon stereo sounded much better than the G80’s. Did you notice that as well? Do you agree that the G90’s stereo sounded better? In the review of this G80 Sport, you said you wished the stereo was more “dynamic.” Thoughts? Thank you!

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep in mind that it's hard for me to remember the details of sound systems that I listened to years ago. Martin Campbell (my friend who drives while I shoot the running footage) and I always assess the sound system together. FWIW, we are both musicians and pay attention the audio systems. Both of us kept looking for some kind of setting that was either turned on or off with the G80. It sounded flat and lacked dynamic punch. I have to believe the two systems are different in some way. I suggest listening to them yourself to keep me in check.

Two quibbles that I think would bother me if I payed full price: that radar badge in the grill is obnoxiously obvious and the huge swath of carbon fiber on the dash looks very tacky! Thanks. Interesting. The G90 is 205" long, 15" longer than the Stinger. The G90's wheelbase is 124" long, 10" longer than the Stinger. I had assumed both are classified as "full size" cars, given the dimensions & wheelbase, but I guess the smaller interior volume makes the Stinger "mid-size".
