Got one 2 wks ago. So luxurious with wonderful torque curve. Quiet cabin and best sounding stereo seen or heard by this owner Absolutely thrilled with it at the 1000 mile mark!
The G80 Sport is really nice, there's a black one at the dealership by me and it looks really nice with those copper accents, definitely one of the best looking luxury sedans out there.
My wife have the same exterior color with the two tone black and light gray interior. She gets compliments all the time. You won't find a better entry-level luxury car with this many standard options for the price.
If you get the AWD you get the heated steering wheel. I have a 2016 Genesis AWD with the Ultimate package and I love it! We’ve owned a 2016 Maxima, 2015 Acura TLX & both had issues. My Genesis hopefully will last me for years to come! Highly recommend it!
Umair Osman I have the 3.8 and it varies of course with my lead foot. Doing 80 mph on the interstate I average 24 mpg’s. If I drop it to 70 mph I get around 28-29 mpg’s. On a 2 lane highway cruising at 55 mph I’m around 31 mpg’s. Very pleased with the mileage for a heavy awd car!
geosh10 Do you have any family members who would need the rear seat charging ports? I do and because this is such a basic Hyundai/Genesis planning flaw it just bothers me. We own a Kia Sorento SXL and it has two rear separate USB ports and a 115V outlet. The Cadenza, Optima, and most Hyundai’s also include these features. Same general design team? The new G70 and KIA Stinger offer these in all versions.
Steve Wise nope, I don’t have any rear passengers. Doesn’t really bother me, but I could see where it would be handy for people who have children. I think perhaps the reason the G80/Genesis doesn’t have them is it’s a Korean built car. Just a wild guess, the Sonata, Optima, & other HMC products are built in the states. Just a thought, maybe they’ll add them for 2019!
Great catch on the lack of rear USB port (boggles my mind they missed that) and overall review. It’s an excellent car, period! Plus IIHS just rated it within the top 15 safest cars under the new passenger seat safety testing.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to create this quick, yet informative and objective review. I thoroughly enjoy the aesthetic design, luxurious (albeit somewhat simple) interior quality, performance and value of this new trim in the luxury line up. At essentially 60k, it is a very enticing offer over the competition, especially when taking into account the warranty that is included.
Great review..to overlook hyundai would be an mistake...they nailed it and its very nice lookin...ive heard u say time after time steve that this is a good bargain
Nice review of another apparent sweetheart from Genesis. I am eager to see the G70 Sporr once it arrives, to see whether these retain value, and whether the dealership is “premium” enough. Given how good the product is, I hope all else works out. Thanks for the frank and detailed take, Steve!
Thanks, Andy! They're working on the dealership persona but if you want to buy one you needn't even go to one...they'll bring the buying experience to you.
Genesis g80 sport is considered a mid size car at 196 inches which is only slightly longer than an Audi a6 @ 194 inches, a BMW 5 series @ 195 inches and the Mercedes E class @ 194 inches.
This car and the XF S really fit you Steve! The Jag is more expensive, but those two tone white and black seats and the two big screens are gorgeous. I think the XF S is worth $80k it’s so sinuous.
Steve: When you fairly recently tested the Genesis G90 full size flagship, you commented on how great the 17 speaker Lexicon stereo sounded and you said that you would put it up against "any B&O" system. This Genesis G80 Sport, at least on paper, is supposed to have the exact same stereo as the G90: 17 Lexicon speakers, 900 watts, QuantumLogic Surround Sound, and Clari-fi Music Restoration. My question is, which car's stereo sounded better? Or did they sound the same to you? In theory, they should say the same.....Thanks! Also, great review!
From recollection, they did the sound the same. I can tell a special system by the nuances that can be heard, the fullness of sound and reconditioning of digital sources. This one is totally legit.
I work at Hyundai dealership before I move to Acura this car g80 is pretty sweet I drove one of this car brand new. I prefer this car instead of other luxury cars ....there's one more car top of the line about 98k and up oooohh my God
Steve's review was great as always and there's no doubt the G80 is a nice car. But I have my doubts that if you gave the average person 56K and told them to bring home a car that this is the one they'd choose.
James Lim ... You do realize that Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords these days even go up to $35k and you're saying the max you'd pay for this car is that price? Interesting
This is a great looking car and considering buying one. Though it’s packed with tech, it doesn’t offer basic tech like rear seat USB or 12V chargers. We had this in our old Honda’s 12 years ago. When I spoke with the dealer, they immediately told me it didn’t have any rear ports for passengers and it’s been an issue for some buyers.
I've never been a big fan of the GS in general so it's a no-brainer for me. I like the G80's styling better, it's more spacious, and I prefer this engine. Plus, I hate Lexus Enform without CarPlay.
G70-G90 are going to be wonderful cars after the 2 year lease is up. Going to fall like rocks and present an ever greater value Just look at how the S90 is fairing and that is from an established brand.
They need to make an entry level model like the 3 series to get the name out and gain a following. People don't just buy top line cars from a brand they've never really heard of, unless it's something very different like a Tesla. Not everybody wants to spend $55k on a car, and the people who do want to go with the proven brands like Mercedes, BMW, Lexus etc.
A bit big & overweight to be a sport model. However I feel like the G80 Sport is more a placeholder for the incoming G70 sport sedan which would really make a dent in 3 series & A4 sales if priced right next year.

That is an outstanding Sedan, no matter the name on the badge

geosh10 what's the average gas mileage on your car with awd ?
Umair Osman I have the 3.8 and it varies of course with my lead foot. Doing 80 mph on the interstate I average 24 mpg’s. If I drop it to 70 mph I get around 28-29 mpg’s. On a 2 lane highway cruising at 55 mph I’m around 31 mpg’s. Very pleased with the mileage for a heavy awd car!

geosh10 interesting point...I was unaware of that dynamic. Thanks for the reply!
Great review Steve. I currently have this vehicle and am eager to drive it everyday!
Lucky you! Congrats.
Shit these things look good inside and out, looks even nicer than a lexus to me
Acura needs to take some notes and pointers here.. why buy an RLX over this🤷♂️
Bro, Acura is on its deathbed. Go visit them now in the hospice.
I'm no fan of Acura, but I'm just pointing out that Hyundai and Genesis can pick up in what people want. Unlike Acura..
Acura is too conservative and Honda don't offer more improvement for their "child manufacture" unlike the way Toyota do
Acura is incredibly unreliable now. My last car was a 2016 Acura MDX. NEVER again.
eatitjoe I'm actually an Acura fan as I drive a TLX, but I agree with you, this car offers better value than the RLX and has a much better interior.
Awesome job Steve, I just ordered one from Carmax with only 2k miles for $48K it arrives in 3 weeks, I can't wait!
Great review Steve! I'm holding out for the G70 before making a final decision, but my next car will be down to these two.
Peter 63 and in 2 years New Genesis Coupe!
Same here! G80 Sport vs G70 with the manual transmission vs Kia Stinger GT2
Can't wait to pick this up as an off-lease at 45% off MSRP 3 years from now. Fantastic Bargain!
completely agree, these cars do not hold value well.
most premium cars over 40k will depreciate around 50% after 3 years especially when their warranties expire
FedoraMcGentlesir not only that but we will see how reliable is the 3.3t engine
Yes I'll be there when it does😎👍
I have the G70, same motor... one word Amazing!!!
That PANO Sunroof is beautiful.
Great catch on the lack of rear USB port (boggles my mind they missed that) and overall review.

Thank you for watching!
One of my favorite cars, would chose this over that mediocre 2019 G wagon
aunty be calming down 😂 o
🙌🙌🙌🙌thanks for the review i'm surely going to buy one and in the same color
if i have the means i will definitely buying this one !!
I drive a Hyundai, now I want a Genesis!
Was waiting for this review from you!! Thanks
Thank you!
The steering wheel is heated.
I love this car ! Just got it.
Great review..to overlook hyundai would be an mistake...they nailed it and its very nice lookin...ive heard u say time after time steve that this is a good bargain
Indeed!

Steve, which color should I get? Black or white?
I thought this white showcased the copper better. You?
Genesis g80 sport is considered a mid size car at 196 inches which is only slightly longer than an Audi a6 @ 194 inches, a BMW 5 series @ 195 inches and the Mercedes E class @ 194 inches.
You get a heated steering wheel with the all-wheel drive option.
Why don't you put the MSRP anymore in the description section? It was easy to check it out.
You're right. I'll start doing that again.
This car and the XF S really fit you Steve! The Jag is more expensive, but those two tone white and black seats and the two big screens are gorgeous. I think the XF S is worth $80k it’s so sinuous.
Couldn't agree more!
Great review Steve!
Thanks!

PunxsutawneyDave so true... wish this was 35k at max. I'd buy.
James Lim ... You do realize that Toyota Camrys and Honda Accords these days even go up to $35k and you're saying the max you'd pay for this car is that price? Interesting

Hey Steve, would you compare this to the M/Q70S' (5.6 or 3.7)?
That car is ancient at this point so I really wouldn't though they technically compete for the same customers.
Steve Hammes this or similarly price (and similar weight) GS350 Fsport and why?
I've never been a big fan of the GS in general so it's a no-brainer for me. I like the G80's styling better, it's more spacious, and I prefer this engine. Plus, I hate Lexus Enform without CarPlay.
Great Review. This car certainly makes you question value in Lincolns & Acuras for sure.
G70-G90 are going to be wonderful cars after the 2 year lease is up. Going to fall like rocks and present an ever greater value Just look at how the S90 is fairing and that is from an established brand.
Residual value is a big concern I would assume
Nope. Everyone assumes this but the G80 finished 2nd to the Audi A7in ALG's 2017 Residual Value Awards in the Premium Fullsize Car Segment.
Not three but four drive modes; snow by depressing mode for two seconds.
It does have a heated steering wheel
I can't decide if the grill is its nose or mouth.
Do you feel you’re more of a G80 guy or G90 guy Steve? I can’t wait for you to test the G70 that might be your Genesis of choice.
I think the G80 is the better car at the more attractive price point.
Top Up G80
First and this car is so hot

Top up G80
Great cars they are. However, they depreciate like crazy in the first year. I've been there, trust me
Nope. Everyone assumes this but the G80 finished 2nd to the Audi A7in ALG's 2017 Residual Value Awards in the Premium Fullsize Car Segment.
I don't like how you can see the bumper and the radar cruise control through the grille.
Yeah. Never been a big fan of that myself. Though it didn't bother me as much here for some reason.
I don't really interested in korean brands but to be honest they're going pretty well by their way
A bit big & overweight to be a sport model. However I feel like the G80 Sport is more a placeholder for the incoming G70 sport sedan which would really make a dent in 3 series & A4 sales if priced right next year.
give it a couple years, I want to see depreciation compared to a BMW
2lazeblue yep
Nope. Everyone assumes this but the G80 finished 2nd to the Audi A7in ALG's 2017 Residual Value Awards in the Premium Fullsize Car Segment.
the frontt end looks generic in a good way
