That’s very interesting & yes feel you are correct about how much a part of doing water colors is your drawing!
Myself, even w practice know drawing is not my strong suit but it’s trying to use that graphite as need to put decent amount & neck can’t due that (disc issue) but worth a try (how print image w color) & also how to print off laptop & would black & white be fine? As the inability to draw is holding me back from painting (mountains) and skies limited to those only.

Can you use carbon paper?

I find that the marks from carbon paper are too dark and difficult to erase.

All the tracing tutorials use simple shapes like flowers and architecture, but what about faces?

You can use it for faces as well. I’ve done it many times.
