  • Sometimes you need to transfer a drawing onto your final painting surface and maybe you don’t have the time, confidence or skills to do it. We all know about using tracing paper, but could transfer spray be the right alternative?
I think drawing skills are vital and need to be developed, but while you are in training, how about this as an alternative?
Fast drying transfer spray allows you to create tracing down type paper. It creates a carbon-like surface on the back of drawings, sketches, prints and photos. It transfers well onto paper, canvas, walls, primed wood, cloth and other surfaces, providing a light grey line.
I show you how to use it and some of the pitfalls, along with tips and hints. You are not restricted by size or format. In this film I use Seawhite, but other brands such as Ghiant are available.

    I didn´t know it exists.
I use pastels, soft pastels, not oil pastels.
I rub the pastel at the backside of the drawing to copy.
sky blue, or magenta, not too dark colour.
    sometimes an inverted colour.
But now I prepared a sheet of paper this way for use as transfer paper.
It´s cheap and you haven´t to wait until it becomes dry.
Just a suggestion from a non professionel.
Best greatings from the continent !
    🙂

I just rub the back of the paper with charcoal or graphite. Charcoal is the easiest to erase and is very friendly to watercolor paper. No can, no spray, no odor.

The advantage of pastels is the colour.
You can chose every colour you has.
And you can integrate it into the drawing / painting.

Question is whether it is harmful to our precious environment.

    • @LizChadertonArt
      @LizChadertonArt  ปีที่แล้ว

I cannot find a full technical data sheet online, so if you have specific questions the manufacturer will answer them. It does say it is flammable and is harmful to aquatic life, but that is standard for most aerosols. Sorry I cannot tell you more. I do know that Seawhite has many environmental accreditations (details on their website).

@@michelemarchesani5139 The aim of this channel is to encourage people to paint and draw. Some people are not confident in their drawing skills, so I aim to show alternative tools to support their development. This is one such tool, along with tracing paper, carbon paper, gridding, light boxes, holding things to a window, using a computer screen, apps etc. People will always choose their own preference. And yes, I use aerosols in other areas of art, such as spray varnish and I would not hesitate to recommend if they are appropriate for the job.

@@LizChadertonArt Interesting vidoe, unlike some who hae commented here, I read the description and listened to your commentary. So many materials we use in art are harmful in some way we see warnings to wear masks or use products outside. It is up to the individual to look at a product and decide if it is right for them. Many people I hear bleeting on about the environment have a cupboard full of chemicals in their kitch cupboards. Please continue the good work informing and those with a brain will make informed decisions.

@@agardener3621 Thank you for your considered reply. Environmental and health considerations are a must, so I am taking away that I need to prioritise them in future product reviews. I try to offer information for people to make their own decisions and avoid ‘should and must’. Realistically the drive to the art shop or having the heating/air con on while painting does more damage than the art materials.
