Hello, Reddit. I need help and advice for a sticky situation that I’m currently in with my daughter and mother-in-law. I will be using fake names for privacy, so my daughter is “Leah” and she is 25 and my mother-in-law is “Alice” and she is 72. I am 48, female, and I lost my husband to a cardiac arrest four years ago.

The thing about "Family Heirlooms" is... move in closer... I'll whisper it quietly... *They don't get passed on until the current owner is either dead or voluntarily chooses to pass it on* You don't get to own somebody else's property by declaring in a "family heirloom" in the same way that a car does not become yours because you've urinated on it to mark it as your territory. Unless you're a feral Tom Cat of course.

Keep the ring until your heart can release it. Period.
Leah's groom is responsible for providing her wedding ring. If she won't accept the ring he provides, she's not ready to marry.

Well most women don't want to be a wife and be married, they just want the wedding as a pretty pretty princess party. So all she wants is the perfect party, and the perfect trinket for that party (so she can sell it after the divorce later)

@@noydb-1 Sold at a much reduced value, as most brides-to-be don't want someone elses reject, only an heirloom.

My theory is the FIL has no balls because MIL has them in her vice-like grip.

Story 1: spoiled children getting married thinking money grows on trees. Sad. & then biting the hand that feeds them. Crummy MIL on top of it.

Keep your ring!! She needs to have what her husband buys her. If u want to pass it years later to grandchild, that is different. I think she hates what her husband brought.

Family heirlooms are usually given to decendants after a person passes away. Keep the ring, it's yours regardless who paid for it. A gift is a gift.

Sorry for your loss , keep the ring ,the reason that the ring is put on that finger is because it was believed to (a religion I can't remember sorry)be the finger where the vein went straight to the heart therefore it's a reminder of your true love and your daughter is disrespecting both of her parents love and commitment.

NTA! No OP, it is about the ring and it should be. That is YOUR ring, a symbol of the love and life you and your husband shared. It has only been 4 years since his death so it is very entitled for anyone to think you must give it to your daughter. Whether you wear the ring every day or once a year, it is your ing and your ring only. Although, it seems like it is more the MIL who is causing the drama.

By this point the ring is nothing but a bad memory for her if she were to get it. A memory of the drama and bullying.
Have another baby and give it to the baby for their future spouse to get revenge lol (kidding)

    "They're both great kids."
    "Mom, pay for my marriage."
"Mom, give me the ring from your greatest lov who has left this world."
"No please mom I'm sorry! Please at least pay for marriage!"
    "Mom, you are so selfish!"
    Yeah, great kids....

After being threatened not getting the marriage payed for if she doesn't cut of her (grandmother was it?).
She decides, on hee own to cut the woman off.
Yeah, on her own. She surely has no ulterior motives at all.

That was wayyy too many ads in this episode, was there like 5??
I get 2, but common, I'm not going to sit thru ad after ad. One of the there was barely 15 seconds of the story before another ad.
